Dr. ELANA ASHLEY Having greatly enjoyed reading Greco-Roman and Norse mythology as a child and teen, having studied the Bible during my early years and college years, and having received a Ph.D. from New York University in Ancient Near Eastern Languages and Literatures, specializing in Ugaritic Mythology, I use my knowledge, understanding, and imagination to create bold, colorful, abstract, fantasy, mystical, and spiritual paintings, and mixed media art.

As a cancer survivor, I derive spiritual strength from the Bible. I take joy in every moment, in every splash of color, in ever-changing emotions and physical healing, in visions seen and unseen. Painting became the primary creative outlet for expressing my thoughts and feelings as I moved through the worst of the cancer and into the ongoing healing process. Whatever my mind, heart and spirit conceive, my hand translates into colorful reflections of reality, fantasy, sci-fi adventure, futuristic visions, memories, dreams, and spirituality.

I developed an artistic collection based on the Bible entitled "Biblical Inspiration and the Creative Spirit," that includes eight paintings, one mixed media and one originally embroidered design. Other art work fall into a series of varied categories including “The World of Fantasies and Dreams,” “The Animal Kingdom,” “The Cosmic World of Sci-Fi Mystery,” and “The World of Abstract Art.” My major focus as an artist has been to interweave bold colors into ever-changing tapestries of animal, plant and human life with spiritual awakenings—some planned; others completely unplanned. Sometimes I shift into quieter, more subtle tones, and the artwork reflects dreamlike, mystical and spiritual dimensions of my mind and heart. In addition to painting and mixed media pursuits, my creativity has taken other artistic forms including cartooning, caricaturing, ceramics, sculpture, fiber art, puppet making, floral design, and jewelry.

Gabi Domenig was born in Austria. She is a through and through figurative artist.

She tries to capture moments and build up emotional tensions. She does not want to shock, stir up or provoke. The viewer of her images should be touched by a positive energy. He should feel the music she has listened during her painting.

He should feel something of her passion when she paints. There are so many negative messages every day which cause bad feelings. For her art should be life-affirming and beautiful, touching and connecting. A language without words.

She paints mostly with acrylic colours and concerns herself primarily with the representation of man and especially of women. Her characters send out varied emotions such as pride, pain, love, sadness, loneliness, joy and longing. They are sensuous, strong, vulnerable, thoughtful, dreamy, seductive, promising and cautious.

For the most part the figures are located in a particular environment cutout. The expression of the eyes should draw the viewer into its spell and animate him to enter in a deeper communication with the figures in the picture. Anna Ivleva When I have been asked about my strengths as practicing visual artist, I am quick to reply that my lack of fear of painting with bold, bright colors is my greatest strength. All of my work is painted in oil on canvas with colors from our daily surroundings such as yellow, red, lavender, blue and green. These uplifting colors create joy and mental stimulation in the viewer I believe, which is very important to me. My picture are meant to capture and reflect on canvas the glory of Glory of God on Earth.

My artwork is quiet and peaceful as well as joyful. In my portraits, I first draw the viewer in through the eyes-the window to the soul. Then comes the face, the body, and the surrounding atmosphere.

Jack Jasper My art is relational. I have always been fascinated by creation myths and I perceive the universe as having evolved from one catastrophic event. From one point, everything emerges, with the best scenarios trying to rush to completion.

I grew up in Chicago and lived for years in Montana. While there I studied medical technology and the life sciences. From the experience of being surrounded by the powerful presence of nature in Montana and my studies, I'm drawn to experimenting with combinations of elements, sometimes alluding to air, earth, fire and water. I try to represent nature's electron dance, with an ambient underlying sexuality, unfolding as a shimmering becoming—a synchronicity between disparate elements.

I’m drawn to the culture of the Australian aborigines and their idea that every thing they do is connected to the Dreamtime when their Creative Ancestors created the world.

My theory of art and life is dialectical. From the one point of creation, all contradictions arise. I see my art as the struggle between thesis and antithesis. I have moved from an imagist sort of art to abstraction to try to play this out.

I have worked as a graphic designer and a medical illustrator and in a subtle sense it may influence the work.

Susie McKay Krieser is a contemporary artist, who lives in Los Angeles, California. cheryl parsons “A painter’s brush consumes his dreams.” John Keats’ statement has been a driving force behind my passion. With a background as a large scale muralist in South Florida, my work has evolved into painting small more detailed works of art. And as a representational painter, my life has been an exploration of interpreting “the realistic” by painting everyday objects with a twist. Oversized apples, marbles, candy, crayons, games. The bright side of life! I choose objects that have been subjects in my life or it may be just the attraction of color or shape.

Commissions are welcomed. How about a huge crayon painting in your kitchen? Delicious apples, cherries; colorful marbles, candy-especially M&M’s.

Or, more classical paintings such as trompe l’oeil (to fool the eye).

My paintings have been exhibited throughout the Metro DC area in galleries and exhibits with awards including “Best of Show” several times. Also, my paintings and murals are in private and corporate collections throughout the Miami and South Florida area where I painted commissioned large scale murals for corporate offices, retail stores, restaurants and residential homes including Burger King International Headquarters, Sunglass Huts and Spec’s Music Stores.

Raquel Rub was born and raised in Lima, Peru. Her interest in art began as a young child. She studied Oil and Acrylic Painting at Brooklyn College, New York in 1956. Back in Lima, Peru, Raquel continued her studies in Pastel and Oil Painting at the Academy of Suarez Vertiz in 1957.

She earned her degree in Interior Decoration at the Escuela de Decoración Interior de Miraflores in 1968. Relocating to Miami, Florida in 1974, Raquel continued to take art classes and workshops with Ilse Grinstein, Peter Rubino, Nilda Comas, Eugene Daub, Susan Luery, Paul Lucchesi, Judy Williams, Wayne Pelke, and currently Robin Katz amongst other artists. Raquel is an accomplished and prolific artist working with different media such as watercolor, acrylics, oils, metals, ceramics and stones.

Traveling to different parts of the world, Raquel always found the sculptures she encountered irresistible to touch. Her desire to understand the art of sculpting, prompted Raquel, to pursue studies in stone sculpting with Salvatore Zagami.

“When I work with stone, I feel the inner essence that seeks to be revealed, it is as if ‘voices of the stone’ are guiding my hands.”

Raquel earned her first award in 1967 for “Kindling Light” an oil painting exhibited in Lima, Peru. She then won an award for 12 • Art & Beyond • Summer/Fall 2013

“Menorah” a bronze sculpture in 1972 in Lima, Peru. “Menorah” is part of the permanent collection of the Jewish Museum in Miami Beach, Florida. Raquel has earned numerous awards for her ceramic and alabaster sculptures and continues to showcase exhibitions in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties in South Florida. Her first solo show was on April 2009 at Caridi Gallery in North Miami, FL. Her second show is a mother and daughter exhibit which was showing at Maor Art Gallery in Miami, Florida in 2011.

Raquel is an overall humanitarian and a philanthropist. She is an active participant in the Jewish community. Raquel was the president of Na’amat OR Chapter of Miami from 1983-2005.

Since 2005 to the present day, Raquel serves as the Na’amat South Florida Regional President. The State of Israel Bonds honored Raquel as a “Woman of Valor” in 1993, and honored Raquel and her husband Dr. Moises Rub O.B.M. in 1999 with the ‘Celebration of Life’ award. Raquel Rub has received many awards for her oil paintings and sculptures, has had two SOLO exhibitions and several groups exhibitions in Miami, FL and Dallas, Tx. Her sculpture was chosen by Camuso in Lima, Peru to manufacture locally.

Sabine Blodorn was fortunate to grow up in an artistic family, with an Architect for a father and Photographer for a mother. Sabine likes to integrate the past, the here and now with the unknown as it relates to future, space or time, questioning ‘what might be out there or not’. By using several techniques and not being constrained to a certain style while remaining faithful to a particular subject/topic, her paintings almost become alive, allowing visual interchange of connectivity to the viewer, by their own ability to reflect the soul.

Studied at the Art League School in Virginia, US. In Cali, Colombia she continues her learning of oil and lithographic inks techniques. is a registered architect and certified planner, who has also worked as a set designer. He applies his sense of space to the composition and form of his photographs.

Rather than capturing depth though perspective, the images are often seen through “frames” or layers, similar to Japanese landscape painting, or flats on a stage set.
