Success Stories Art! Vancouver 2016, a Vancouver-based international art fair set for May 26 – 29, 2016, is anticipated to be a spectacular event, as it follows the success of the inaugural Art! Vancouver exhibition in May 2015. Along with a number of artists and galleries returning for their 2nd year, the event will also feature several new exhibitors visiting from throughout the globe looking to connect with local and international art-lovers alike. With the success of Art! Vancouver 2015, followed the prosperity of the event’s exhibitors. Some of the most interesting success stories came from exhibiting independent artists, who developed key relationships and partnerships with recognized gallery representatives and art collectors that attended. A great example of Art! Vancouver’s influence on our exhibitors is returning artist Taisha Teal, known for her eclectic “Pop Icon” series exhibited at last year’s fair. She was recently commissioned as 1 of 10 vibrant artists by Burt’s Bees Canada. Discovered through the Art! Vancouver website, Taisha Teal collaborated with the natural care company, creating an original piece of art using their 100% natural color-rich product in honor of their new product line set to launch this April 2016. She has also been approached by galleries for representation, who also found her through Art! Vancouver.

Other artists who have experienced career development from their participation in Art! Vancouver include Charles Gitnick and Andres Dorigo. Glitnick, a 13-year old American artist, who was scouted at Art! Vancouver by a Montreal gallery. The gallery then invited Gitnick to exhibit at Art Manoco, where he was picked up by a gallery in Zurich, Switzerland for representation. Dorigo, an Argentinian artist, was spotted by a prominent collector, who not only purchased Dorigo’s work, but also hired him to live in their home in Hawaii to paint at Dorigo’s leisure. Through this connection, Dorigo’s work will be displayed in New York, Australia, and Hawaii in the coming year. These are just a few great examples of success stories from Art! Vancouver 2015, and with the 2016 event in the horizon, further success stories are likely to come from Vancouver’s premiere international art exhibition. Exhibit at Art! Chris Delias: #CityLife Solo Show - Austria Invited Artist Chris Delias is a true artist in the making; someone who is as passionate when he interacts with his work as he is when he does so with the world around him – the characters that populate his paintings mingling as actively with one another as they do with the imaginary worlds he so deftly paints for them; his inner world and imagination energizing his work from his very early works. His work, reminiscent of Pop Art, is focused on daily urban life – symbolizing the elements of new technologies and social media networks that include: Facebook, WhatsApp, hashtags, and Apple-logo; creating and esthetically unique platform. People dominate the foreground of the paintings, and are usually communicating with others; as they are in his piece: “Samantha and Selfie”. The figures – somewhat expressionist and extremely colorful – do not give the impression of being engulfed in the overwhelming impact of social media, but rather very much a part of the actual -barring technological development – but instead, employing these elements to share and express their emotions and feelings. Although, Chris is no stranger to the risks that the banality of technology subjects us to, and in a recent interview by Art Daily News International Magazine reflected on his philosophy on the subject: “My art needs to be viewed as a counterpart of all of this ‘Anti Real Relations’; for me, the center of everything is to be found in the beauty of humanity, the emotions, and human interactions. This can only be felt when one is among other human beings; not from a Smartphone or a screen”. 12 • Art & Beyond • March/April 2016

Chris is in love with “fauve” colors, and in love with the world. He is an artist capable of enjoying and nurturing his creativity through everything that surrounds him; even with something as simple as strolling down a city street. A perfect example of this is his series: “Time Square, New York”, where he feels as free as the figures that he painted; which results in works that are loaded with a history created by the environment of the area. Another great example of is: “Nina and Layla”. Kelly Fischer-Switzerland FEATURED ARTIST My work is part of the minimalist representation of constant movement. The ideas themselves are minimalist, so that they, and the images I create, have more space in which to expand; life also develops in this perspective. I synthesize my ideas as if creating a loft in which to fit the possibility of integrating the personal concept, and to provide the ability for viewers to interpret the environment. Color, in my work, is meant to introduce the spectator to the atmosphere of the sensations they represent. Colors represent the human essence. In the perception of color there is a strong impact on emotional reactions; with their symbolic strength, sounds, and taste, they infuse character to our personalities. I define this idea within the following context: Our planet and human beings share a convulsed history; interlocked in inseparable successes of human and natural events. But, we mortals have abused the earth’s generosity, mistreating the habitat it humbly offers us; so it manifests its unrest and reminds us of its presence by way of storms, volcanos, tsunamis, in an to attempt to placate us as it might have done during the age of the dinosaurs… Those of us who open our heart to her, can allow themselves to be embraced in dawns and dusks adorned with twilights and majestic colors – in open spaces, as well as between sky scrapers and architecture that form the concrete landscapes that bear humanity’s signature. Now, the planet screams to us to be conscientious, and her laments are translated into the colors with which I paint my canvases. LA PELEA. Mixed Media on Concrete/Cement. 6' x 8'
Ricardo Cardenas - Mexico FEATURED ARTIST Ricardo Cardenas, a young Mexican emerging artist whose popularity is growing in giant leaps, gifts us with pictorial work - rich in colors and diverse images - displayed on the hard surface of concrete. His paintings - teaming with autobiographic elements populated with everyday life characters; the exuberant flora of his native country; and the strong influence of its artistic legacy -are influence by the muralist and cubism legacy of Mexican culture. Today, Ricardo presents us with an Autobiographic series of Works that represent time; his time. We would have to delve into the artist’s most private realm to fully understand the whole significance of what he imparting to us; so we must view his work simply as time in all its verbal forms. Each element in his paintings represents for us the hands of a clock –as does the horizon’s white line that represents the time and vertical line of minutes past. And, though his work has diminished in his color scheme’s force, its strength is present in the sealer that is applied to his concrete works; the transparencies that seal the paintings with a somber overtone that the artist employs to represent his day-to-day obstacles. His awesome concrete pieces – almost pure – signify the harshness and coldness that time goes carving inside most of us. At the same time: “the marvels that appear in his work represent the soul of a work that has to be as hard as steel in its effort to resist time”. Recently, I referred to Ricardo’s work, mentioning the fusion brought about by the combination of his civil engineering background and his knowledge of Povera Art. His works are an open picture gallery that project the anthropologic archeology of his spiritual landscape, its edifices, and its entire environment. Anica Shpilberg - Peru/USA Art is the language of my thoughts and the way to express my self. experiences lived.
My inspiration comes from my surroundings and
I sort thru the images that “make sense” from what was photograph and weave them into fragments that tell a story. Some are printed either on canvas or paper utilizing mixed media to deliver the intended message. Others I like leaving a pristine photograph. The purpose of it all is to capture instances in time that form a story, one that is interpreted by the observer who add their biases as hey reflect on the images. In the series “Clones” after working on the pictures to get them to my ideal state the mannequins became real, part of my environment and was difficult at times to see them as just mannequins. They all developed a story about their realities, struggles and gender. Elena Bulatova - Russia My work is very much about process. The process is one of action/reaction. My most recent work is about the thrill of exploring and experimenting with a variety of methods of applying acrylic color on raw canvas, taking big risks and looking for new combinations that I’ve never done before. My approach is very intuitive; there are no sketches to work from, little predetermined choice of color. The process begins with an initial application of paint on canvas and continues as I react to subsequent layers, it concludes when a final action no longer evokes reaction.
For me painting is like an intense compulsion motivated by the love of the process itself, allowing me to become more comfortable with uncertainty and unpredictability which opens up a whole world of new possibilities. Born of spontaneity, the work is a reflection of myself at the time of its creation. Eliel Perez - Puerto Rico As an artist I strive to express the world I see onto the media that I paint to motivate, inspire, and stimulate other human minds to see the world as I do. AMERICANO. Mixed Media and Recycled Coca-Cola Cans. 54" x 27"
Efrain Mashiah - Israel The artist is working to make recycled materials into sculptures, incorporating used coca-cola cans to build bikes and screws as the main medium to create three-dimensional artworks. Born in Israel and based in California he doesn’t rely on a computer to pixelate his works, he just makes a grid and drills in screws at certain key points (like the tip of the nose) to establish the depth of the artwork. “ I consider these paintings as sculptures and all my screws are at different depths. There’s nothing planned out. I draw out a figure on the board and figure out the depths,” the artist says. The screw holes have to be drilled beforehand, to make sure the screws go in straight. “I love the unpredictability of found materials and enjoy the inventiveness necessary to transform them into a sculpture,” he said. “Americano 1” is part of the permanent collection of Ripley Museum, California/USA. Gary Traczyk - USA Gary Traczyk's stainless steel kinetic sculptures are delicately balanced works of art inspired by spiritual emotion and expression. Each piece are defined as “one of a kind" and challenges the mind to wander in a meditative state of discovery. Gary, a native South Floridian, attended New World School of the Arts and received two degrees from Florida State University. He was recently featured and opened the new season of HGTV's television show "Clever Ideas". Grace Berge-USA With an absolute love for nature and a background in art therapy and observation, I combine my passions for photography, nature, discovery, and exploration to create imagery. The specifics and details of what I observe blend together in my mind's eye, and it is that blending, that compilation and abstraction of specific moments, that I hope to capture in my current body of work. If I had to put words to it, I might call it "post-modern neo-impressionism", but what it really amounts to is a combining and softening of environment and time into images that I hope encompass many moments, many thoughts, many feelings. The images I create - in-camera, sans digital manipulation - simplify what the bare eye sees, turning it into what we perceive when we look with a softer gaze, observing the essence rather than the specifics. There is the horizon, but what does that line demark? What is above, and what is below? It is a kind of minimalism, a reduction into sheer line, color, and movement, that represents something unclear which nevertheless feels familiar and recognizable. My photographs may take the viewers into an ethereal, otherworldly place, one that prompts us to question our assumptions and find new answers. It is my sincere hope that these images inspire others to look more deeply into our natural world, to find in it, as I do, serenity and healing. Jorge Cavelier - Colombia Rain forests are the earth's lungs. Beauty and life emerge from those magical places. I consider forests as beings with their own soul. Each time I make a work of art related to them I'm rising my own awareness, thriving to expand it in a most direct way. Once collective awareness reach into love and compassion, we may reach to the forests and save our air. Depicting the cloud forests atmospheres and transmitting the golden peace that emerge from them I believe the difference will be done. I work with oils as my primary media on linen or gold gilded wood to achieve the soft mystical sensation of the forests' atmosphere. platforms; a crystal or stone sphere makes their center. The mysterious sceneries found in the rain forests canopies are represented by these successive planes reflected on the platforms they are placed upon. Lorena Fernandez - Colombia My work is part of the minimalist representation of constant movement. The ideas themselves are minimalist, so that they, and the images I create, have more space in which to expand; life also develops in this perspective. I synthesize my ideas as if creating a loft in which to fit the possibility of integrating the personal concept, and to provide the ability for viewers to interpret the environment. Color, in my work, is meant to introduce the spectator to the atmosphere of the sensations they represent. Colors represent the human essence. In the perception of color there is a strong impact on emotional reactions; with their symbolic strength, sounds, and taste, they infuse character to our personalities. I define this idea within the following context: Our planet and human beings share a convulsed history; interlocked in inseparable successes of human and natural events. But, we mortals have abused the earth’s generosity,
mistreating the habitat it humbly offers us; so it manifests its unrest and reminds us of its presence by way of storms, volcanos, tsunamis, in an to attempt to placate us as it might have done during the age of the dinosaurs… Those of us who open our heart to her, can allow themselves to be embraced in dawns and dusks adorned with twilights and majestic colors – in open spaces, as well as between sky scrapers and architecture that form the concrete landscapes that bear humanity’s signature. Now, the planet screams to us to be conscientious, and her laments are translated into the colors with which I paint my canvases. Maria Ana Davila - Mexico Reflexions on water are the thoughts, meditations, ruminations, joy and love, that each of us reflects from oneself. It is completely personal; it is ourselves looking deep inside, with our own contrasts, focused or unfocused, with our pale or vivid memories, our shadows, lights and sharp edges. We can be quiet or stormy water but there is always beauty. Through organic abstract art I see that we form part of nature, just as we are stardust, drops of water or reflexions on water. We are unique and unrepeatable the same way the water captured in an instant. It will never be the same, I can never repeat the same instant with the same reflection again, and we are like this. Martin Schoffel - Venezuela I started of using pencil and paper, as well as cardboard and markers, resulting in very abstract black and white paintings. Now my style is more consistent and geometrical. I design my art in the computer and reflect it on aluminum. I basically crate kinetic, geometrical an OP art. My creative process is somewhat like improvising a speech, one may not be certain about what is going to be said, but de seed of the idea is planted in fertile ground. This is similar to what occurs with me; I start a piece with a general idea, but the end result is a secret that slowly unfolds a I work. I want to constantly improve my work, grow‌ my general goal is to impact viewers and to create somethings different, somethings transcendent. I currently express my art through three different languages: 1. Linear Language: Inspired by palm trees, the artist takes them into lines, shown in black and white and without using any instruments, each piece accomplishes a clear effect.
2. Geometry and Color: In this pieces made of aluminum, the artist plays with geometry and color range that allow to create different visual effects so the viewer can enjoy the piece from several perspectives. 3. Overexposed dimensions: This pieces are created by metal rods that are cut , perfectly painted and arranged as they were overlaying their colors offering the viewer a visual game that gives a different perspective from each position as from the viewer to the piece. I Consider that the best part of being an artist is being able to show my feeling, ideas and vision through my creations. Mr. Santo - Thailand Mr.Santo, born in Thailand, has been creating his incredibly life like sculptures since late 1980 from chains, springs, rods, ball bearings, brake bands, gears, and lots of other recycled metal. At this time he was the proprietor of souvenir shop in Samui for 10 years. One day he decided to bring to fruition some thoughts that had been in the back of his mind for some time and began welding together some parts. He liked the result, as did many others who saw that first sculpture on the counter of the shop. Encouraged by both the response to the piece and his own enjoyment at creating it, Mr.Santo continued to create his sculptures over the next few years, and it wasn’t long before they were selling to customers.

Rajvi Dedhia Unadkat - India My work explores the interior world, expressing the emotional and feeling nature of it with color, form, line and texture. I am intrigued by the way a work of art conveys that which often cannot be spoken and is perhaps better left unsaid. Words can be a problem but there is no misunderstanding in the painting. Robin Apple - USA Iphoneography I recently made a solo road trip from California to Oregon and back again, to retrace some steps of a journey that I first made two decades ago coinciding with the beginning of my professional career and the ending of requisite training experiences. Nostalgia and reminiscence permeated the trip and I sought to capture images during and for some time after that reflected my state of mind as related to the journey I'd taken, on the road and in life. Amazed, chagrined, grateful; what seemed important wasn't; time passes no matter what; moments and people along the way are beautiful albeit ephemeral. I used my iPhone6 for capturing and processing images, choosing a sepia- enhanced color palette and incorporating elements of blur and fade to connote nostalgia, opacity and wistfulness. Rosaria AESTUS Vigorito - Italy I am an Italian-American, a lesbian, a retired NY lawyer and law librarian professor, and an ovarian cancer survivor, but my calling is that of an artist.
the fusion of elements taken from different media, both non-digital and digital, and their manipulation in computer post-production.
After a long hibernation, I rediscovered my childhood passion for art as an adult. Once reawakened to my innate passion, which I call my second coming out, I studied with various accomplished figurative artists in New York City, and went on to formalize my training by receiving my MFA from the Graduate School of Figurative Arts of the New York Academy of Art, in 2003.
Regardless of medium, I subscribe to the philosophy that art serves as a bridge from our primal essence to our higher selves, and to the divine. As such, my “aestus,” or passionate fire, and underlying motivation is to produce works intended to stimulate the senses, provoke emotional responses, elevate the spirit, and address issues dear to me.
Following in the example of one of my inspirations, i.e., Picasso, with his perchance to reinvention and bold experimentation, my versatility extends to painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, and the focus of my more recent works, innovative digital mixed media collage – which incorporates

Jacqueline Doyle Allison is an award winning artist who was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Taras Bibilashvili was born on April 2, 1960 in Zestaponi, Georgia. In 1977 Taras graduated the Arts School in Tbilisi and the year after began his career as an artist in the workshop of famous artist Professor Zurab Nizharadze. In 1983 Taras studied at the Lakob Nikoladze Arts College and has been participating in many local and international exhibitions since 1985. In 1994 Taras traveled to Athens, Greece for creative work. There he met famous artist and sculptor Khristos Ksarakaciano, sculptor, the director of modern museum.

Maruka Carvajal is a contemporary artist based in Washington DC. Born in Bolivia, with Spaniard nationality, an upbringing in Brazil, and after several years living as expat in Asia and the Americas, she brings a multi-cultural perspective of the world and sensations expressed through shapes, patterns and her peculiar use of colors and strokes. She started painting during college in Brazil, where she graduated as an architect, but with the years she followed her true passions and devoted herself to the visual arts in full. She pursued further studies, including art classes at Chinatown Heritage Centre in Singapore and the Art League in Alexandria, VA. As a member of the Foundry Gallery in Washington DC, the Color8art group, and visiting artist at the Torpedo Factory Gallery in Alexandria VA, Ms Carvajal’s
paintings were displayed in several exhibitions at these and other venues. One of her paintings was acquired by the “Writer’s Center” in the city of Bethesda, MD to be displayed in their permanent collection. Debbi Chan Born and raised in the metropolis of Houston where the glare of sunlit skyscrapers the landscape I was most familiar with did not stop the smooth transition to a landscape of pines and snow in Idaho. What the surprise move did was open my creative mind and allow me to expand and my art to grow. I took up three new mediums and set my schedule to allow for art to be the focus of my time. The mediums were new but I managed to keep to the traditional Chinese style which I took up almost 15 years ago. Days for me are all about art . Making it keeps me busy and rarely does a day go by without it. If not painting I am gathering for it. Looking out my windows I see the vastness of nature about me and watch wildlife romping that I previously could only have seen in a zoo behind bars. My tight drawings loosened and the subjects I once was afraid of painting flow across the leaves of 70 ft. Continuous story

Joyce Converse I have been painting mostly landscapes in oil for the last twenty-five years. I bought land that rises to 1300 feet, built a house at 900 feet so that I could paint where I live and live where I paint. I have 360 degree views of open grassland and the beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains. Over these last years I have developed intimate relationship with this land, its behaviors and its population of plants, birds and animals. It has become an extension of my own spirit. What I see when I look is a reflection. My work is evolving as a consequence, toward the manifestation of the spirit and feeling of place that I perceive.

Gabi Domenig is a through and through figurative Austrian artist. Since her early childhood she was attracted to the fine arts. Anna Maria Giordano A neapolitan, Anna moved to Gaeta twenty years ago. After leaving her previous job in 1999, she dedicated herself entirely to the figurative arts. Helen Kagan, PhD was born in a cold Siberian winter in what then was the USSR. She grew up in a Communist State where oppression and control were a daily reality. In 1991 her quest for freedom led her to the US, where to she brought her Jewish heritage, a couple of graduate degrees, and an unending thirst to explore the World and its meaning. Mainly self-taught Helen’s been painting for as long as she remembers, since 2005 does it professionally. Helen works with oils and acrylics, lately is experimenting with mixed media. If you are a seeker on a Quest looking for some quintessential insight, or just wishing to feel better - you might find rewarding to meditate with Helen’s works. Josef Kote Josef Kote (b.1964 Albania) - New York-based visual artist. The paintings of J.Kote are symphonies of light and color. They are lyrically stunning and romantic, edgy and current. Kote achieves this delicate balance of seemingly contradictory qualities through his complete mastery of technique and through years of experimenting to find his own unique style. With the lightness of a true master’s hand, he combines classic academic and abstract elements, fusing these, literally letting them run into each other with dripping rivulets of riveting colors and light: by using his signature drip effect along the bottom. His latest works force the viewer to remain focused on the paintings leaving one mesmerized at the very successful combination colors, larger brushstrokes, and the shear creativity involved. His light, pallet of colors and his fearless brushstroke have become a signature that is an unmistakably recognizable. Influenced by many places where he lived, Albanian-born artist J.Kote began his journey towards artistic self-discovery in his youth and never looked back. At the age of 14, after competing locally and nationally, he was awarded a coveted spot at ‘’National Lyceum of Arts’’ in Tirana. In 1984, Kote followed this amazing feat by being accepted into the ‘’Academy of Fine Arts’’ of Tirana, where J.K was educated in the traditional approach of the old masters. In 1988, Kote graduated with a diploma in painting and scenography. The years of practice and his 8-year solid art education had prepared the young artist well to pursue his life’s quest of living and breathing art. andrzej michael karwacki Born in Poland, in the historic town of Brzeg, Andrzej grew up during the years of political oppression and era of communist Poland. There he attended the School for the Arts and Literature. Unconsciously, these primary years were the platform for a deep attraction towards peace, poetry and art as a form of creative preservation. In 1984, Andrzej moved to New York and continued his education at the School for the Arts at Jersey City State University. While he was earning his a BFA in painting, Andrzej had the opportunity to explore everything from sculpture to printmaking, drawings to graphic art. These years were pivotal processing years. At the end of the 5-year BFA program, Andrzej earned a Master's Degree and Honorary Award in Urban and Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania in the field of Urban Architecture in 1994. Architectural design taught him to observe and imitate nature through new media. The rigorous nature of the field transformed Andrzej’s creative approach

away from objectifying the world and towards autonomy through painting. After relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1994, Andrzej's artistic direction began to take shape after integrating Eastern spirituality into his artwork. For him, Eastern Spirituality and forms of Zen, mediation and Buddhism was closer to seeing world as beautiful rather than violent as he has in his early years. Andrzej's artistic philosophy led him to resume his academic work at the California Institute of Integral Studies in San Francisco where, in 2011, he received a Masters in Integral Psychology and a certification in Expressive Art Therapy. While Andrzej’s current studio is based in Berkeley, his paintings are currently exhibited Los Angeles, the San Francisco Bay Area, Chicago, Dallas, New York, Boston, Paris, London and Hong Kong. Natalya B. Parris Natalya Borisovna Parris developed a unique artistic style and is using her scientific and engineering experience to bring new ideas to reality in her work. Her “Emotional Counterpoints in Paint – Dots Artworks” technique, where round dots are overlaid onto sections of a previously-painted picture, piled on one another and create a three dimensional painting, came from her experience as a construction engineer. Her floral compositions are expressions of her connection with Nature; its beauty and its nurturing and healing effect on a soul. Ms. Parris expresses herself, her view of the world, through color, color combinations and shapes. When she creates her artworks there is no taboo of what colors she can choose or combine, or how many techniques to use in one artwork. Ms. Parris worked for the City of Gaithersburg, MD from November 2006 - July 2010 as a Gallery Director and Gallery Curator. She organized over 96 exhibits in four City of Gaithersburg galleries. She worked with more than 384 artists
and art organizations. Since 2007 she has been teaching art classes for children and adults at the Arts Barn, Gaithersburg, MD. Ms. Parris created unique programs not only for her art classes, but also for the camps that she teaches at the Arts Barn. These camps have included: "Fun Art", "Russian Folk Art" and "Art Around the World." Since 2010 she has been teaching Art Appreciation classes to adults and seniors at Sunrise at Montgomery Village, MD. Since 2013 Ms. Parris has been teaching the "Wine with the Masters" classes for adults at BlackRock Center for the Arts. Since 2015 she has been teaching Excel Beyond the Bell Classes “Drawing Painting Collage and Clay” at Montgomery County Middle Schools. Yorka Ralwins by Justin Hoffman
Yorka Ralwins was born in the Dominican Republic, but began her painting life in 1999 when she opened a gift shop of hand-painted art in South Plainfield, New Jersey and set up her first studio next door. It wasn't until she moved to Florida that she was ready to start exhibiting her personal paintings. Q. Do you have any formal training? A. I have had some formal training, starting with the Dominican Fine Art Master, Candido Bido, who discovered the artist in me and gave me one-on-one attention on a daily basis for almost a year. He prepared me for my entrance into art school. When I was ready, he sent me to Parsons School of Design in New York City. I followed his advice, but after a semester returned home to attend a new school in my hometown, Altos de Chavon. This was the School of Design, an affiliate of Parsons. Two years later I returned to NY and attended Hunter College, continuing art but learning English as well. Though I completed more credits than needed to graduate, I didn't take chemistry which was a requirement, and therefore did not finish. I always painted, but never for the public after that.
Q. Can you describe your process for creating? A. My painting process is long but fun. The key is the background: it must be interesting and colorful, with rhythm and texture. I go through several backgrounds until one finally reveals itself to me. It’s a journey because I allow time for each background to pull me in, but if nothing is revealed I will cover it and start all over. Once I get a revelation the real fun begins. I will bring out the images revealed and start connecting them. Ideas flow in my head
and through my hands, and I utilize anything around me to get the final results. Music, dancing, and wine are part of this journey. It’s all enjoyable until I complete the piece to my (almost) satisfaction. There are no rules, no traditional techniques, no patterns, no formula; just a conversation between the canvas and me.
Q. What do you envision a viewer experiences when they view your work?
A. I want viewers to get inside my paintings and try to discover the message for themselves. The works are all about my experiences, feelings, views, strengths, weakness, moments, and of course my heart and I want them to inspire a dialogue. I imagine, or hope, the observer experiences an emotional involvement with the painting; one that entwines with the emotions I felt during its birth. However, if the viewer enjoys just a moment of beauty and inspiration, even unrelated to my intent, I am happy and feel my job as an artist has been accomplished.
Q. Do you have any upcoming exhibits? A. My next upcoming event is ArtExpo New York from April 14th -17th at Pier 94. I will be in Booth #169. Talia Prilutsky Talia Prilutsky has worked in the art field for over twenty years as a graphic designer, an art educator and as a fine artist. Between 1993 and 1998 Talia lived in Israel where she received training in Fine Art and Design under her mentor’s I. Port supervision.

Her painting style can be categorized, as “figurative” though not overly concerned with realism. Her creations rather evoke to a deep unconscious level of each individual rather speak directly. All paintings contain the ideas that in many cases are reflecting her identity. Colors are used as a narrative emotional and expressionistic tool sometime with little correlation to reality. Some pieces are created as individual piece, however many are part of the specific series that united by the theme.

STEVEN LUSTIG Art - Breath - Movement This art is born out of a love of the human form and its natural motion. It is powerful, passionate, and embraces both human and natural forms. Steven was born and raised near the North Shore of Chicago where he began drawing at a age five. In high school he met a regionally known sculptor and began his fine arts education. During that time, Steven was given a copy of Gray’s Anatomy. He became fascinated by what he saw and immediately began to draw directly from the book, changing the course of his life and starting a lifelong study of the human form. Steven received an art scholarship to Bradley University. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, with an emphasis on Bio-technical

Illustration. While at the University of Illinois, Steven began to work for the Biomechanical Engineering department. His early work combining computers, art, and human motion became the genesis of Steven’s fine art, regardless of media. He would go on to draw, paint and sculpt thousands of interpretations of the human form in his own distinctive style. In 1982 Steven moved to Southern California for the opportunity to work at an Olympic research center focused on Sports Medicine and Biomechical Engineering. Looking to the future, Steve quickly recognized the promise of what computer illustration could bring to traditional graphic design techniques. After seven years of working in corporate presentation graphics, Steven founded

BioDesign Communications in 1989. BioDesign was a highly specialized computer graphics company supplying creative illustrations to the Life Science, Medical Device, and Healthcare industries. Steven has produced medical and life science images for companies around the world, and has illustrated four books, completed a series of life science illustrations for the Nobel Prize winner for Chemistry at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California. Throughout this time Steven continued to draw and sculpt, dedicating his life to the arts. His fascination with drawing the human form continues to ignite his creative talent and provides him with an endless supply of material. Steven currently teaches a stone sculpting class at
the Laguna College of Art & Design. In addition to working as an Illustrator and fine artist, Steven has been the Cultural Arts Chair for the CA PTA and a leading art advocate Statewide. For the past twelve years Steven has been a volunteer legislative advocate, recruiting and training parents, running legislative junkets to Sacramento and leading parents in the cause of public education. Steven is a volunteer art teacher at a local elementary school and has taught students art privately. FIREBIRD. Composite materials, 8' x 5' x 16" Firebird is one of the most recent creations by Oleg. His work has evolved from his training in classical sculpture through a search for a metamorphosis of form into a growing fascination with organic, abstract shapes. Firebird re-imagines the arising of life from the molecular level as something new begins to emerge from an almost chaotic "cellular soup" of bubble-like shapes as a mystery of transformation. His works express a vocabulary that translates his interest in streamlined arcs and curves, free lines, metamorphic sub-structures, and sensations of light and levitation.
Oleg Lobykin Oleg Lobykin (Russian, b. 1966) is a sculptor. Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, Lobykin now resides in Silicon Valley and also specializes in the restoration of landmark architecture and sculpture. Oleg has roots in a tradition of the old work craft of stone carving yet considers himself “an international man and product of globalization.” He defies labels and strives to show how old and new, timeless and contemporary, familiar and unexpected elements can combine to reveal hidden truths. His work explores connections between what is known and emerging insights about the nature of life. Sandy Den Hartog is a Native Californian. She now resides in Lake Havasu City Arizona. Her current home, she and her husband had built for themselves, faces the water with the desert a short distance behind and as a backdrop a dramatic and rather large mountain range. With this view Sandy has taken the time to absorb the impact of this beauty and pieced together jewelry that exemplifies each geographical characteristic, blending them into original jewelry objects.

Jane Gottlieb I have been expressing my joy of art with paint, shapes and colors since I was very young. I started as a painter, evolved into a photographer, and eventually began hand painting on my Cibachrome prints over 30 years ago. Before Photoshop I found a way to express a new magical reality with the vivid colors I saturated into my photos. Now I scan my one-of-a-kind hand-painted prints and my library of 35mm Kodachrome color transparencies taken over the last 45 years, and I paint, collage and enhance them with Photoshop, creating my own idyllic world! I produce archival museum quality, archival chromogenic prints, glossy canvas artworks, and my favorite new digital medium: printing on aluminum. My art has been shown worldwide in many solo exhibitions including: Butler Institute of American Art, Ohio; Carnegie Art Museum, Oxnard, CA; Laguna Art Museum, CA; Petersen Automotive Museum, LA, CA;LA County Natural History Museum, CA; Monterey Museum of Art, CA; Nancy Hoffman Gallery, NYC, NY; L’Image Gallery, Rome, Italy; Louis Stern Gallery, West Hollywood, CA; Wall Space, Santa Barbara, CA. Recently I have had the honor of being able to install my art in many wonderful n public spaces on exhibit for 10 years: In 2013 I installed more than 70 large art works at the UCLA Law Library and UCLA Anderson School of Management, including a 5'x10' piece. I also installed an exhibit of my “Joy Rides” series printed on aluminum at the Car Museum in Oxnard CA. In 2014 I installed 20 new large artworks printed on aluminum at the UCSB Gervirtz Graduate School of Education. In 2015 I created the First Vertical Art Gallery at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health: I got a drab 8 story stairway freshly painted bright white, it had good lighting & I filled it with my large artworks bright white, This is about encouraging people to make a healthy choice and use the stairs instead of the elevators, and of course being drawn into the stairwell by my exciting art exhibit! Arthur Jacob Jacob reveals the identity of the original image and then through digital manipulation, asks the observer to take a journey of discovery exploring shapes, colors and movement. Even when his work is easily recognizable, the predominate thread of color, movement and shape still exist. Using a mouse rather than a brush, Jacob hopes that his work results in a powerful medium of expression and communication. His extraordinary art has received accolades from the Medial Museum in London, England. He is also the recipient of two Awards of Excellence from Manhattan Arts International. Heike Suhre by Justin Hoffman
Photographer Heike Suhre was born in 1960 in Münster, Germany currently and lives in Emmen in the Netherlands. She studied at the Academy of Design in Münster, Germany and after studying at the Arts Academy of Enschede in the Netherlands, Suhre has gone on to have many exhibitions . Her works have been exhibited Italy, Scotland, Germany, Netherlands, Greece, Canada, Morocco and throughout the Unites States of America, and her pieces can be found in private and public collections in many countries. Her works have also been published in more than 500 magazines all over the world. Q. Where do you find your inspiration? A. I tell stories that are close to reality but seen with fantastical eyes. Often the stories are taken from real life: the double standards, conflicts between people, secret wishes and dreams of people and the absurd - that which should not exist. These are dreams and wishes for which there is no space in daily life. Through my work they can 68 • Art & Beyond • March/April 2016
be magnified, exaggerated, and extravagantly imaged. The abundance which I bring to my subjects and stories in pictures creates a nearly kitschy effect. I create a balance between extravagance and beauty, seriousness and ridicule.
Q. What is your process like? Is it the same for each piece you create, or does it differ?

A. I always edit my picture myself because it is a very important part for my work. The processing and composition give the photos a special look and this is very important to my style. Very often I work with the same models which allows us to get to know each other better and therefore we know what we can expect from each other. For me, the personality of the model is much more important than their dress size or length. I work a lot with plus size models and models that seem to be too small for the fashion world. Each shoot involves a lot of teamwork from the model to the make-up, hair, design, styling, and photography. The combination must be right; only then can a shoot be perfect.
Q. How has your photography developed over the course of your

Carolyn CJ Jones Carolyn CJ Jones is drawn to the vibrant patterns created by light’s energy, which produces magical and mysterious abstract impressions when it is shined through glass. These patterns are reminders to us that light is everywhere - in everyone and everything. Of her abstract photographs, CJ says, “To achieve these images, I fabricated and constructed environments in my studio where I experimented with the energy of white and colored light while I shined it through cut or colored glass. My abstract images are photographs, captured digitally. Some are slides. They are not computer created and, other than cropping, are not digitally enhanced or manipulated in any way. Maureen Kirk-Detbernerm Maureen finds inspiration in photographing the interactions between humans, animals and desert landscape.
