Art by Artlord at Art! Vancouver 2017.

Dedicated to raise awareness of the art scene in Western Canada is the mantra of curator and Art! Vancouver show founder and producer Lisa Wolfin Wayrynen. Lisa is a prolific art curator who knows how to please the aesthetics of her surroundings as she has proved as curator for the Hollyburn Country Club art collection in Vancouver to designing her own clothing line after her apprenticeship with Christian Dior. Her expression for the artistic has transcended to her creating the Art! Vancouver event in 2015 and it is developing into a global visual arts destination. Intended to bring together art appreciators, collectors and buyers with galleries and artists, this premier visual art event has attracted thousands annually to its location in the beautiful Vancouver Conference Centre. Through the participation of galleries, professional and emerging artists from around the globe ranging from ages 12 to 75, the idea of providing variety and diversity in the show is a prime initiative. This annual spring event has the inspiring backdrop of Vancouver as its canvas and in the foreground allows for galleries and artists to exhibit and show their work directly to their audiences. Art fairs have become one of the top tier methods for galleries and artists to exhibit their work as it places them in a position to interact with current and potential collectors they can hone over time. Through the opportunities to connect with them at the show and the ongoing ability to stay in touch with them using a variety of virtual and direct means, has opened up opportunities that hasn’t before been possible. Savvy artists know how to utilize this venue for their work and to gain exposure that is helpful on several paths. The first is to experience first-hand the comments and responses to their work from the public while also giving them the chance to develop a formidable patron base. One of many participants in Art! Vancouver for 2017 was Irina Grechanaia, an artist that has participated in a number of art shows from Art Expo New York, Art San Diego, Spectrum Miami, among others. With Art! Vancouver she particularly appreciated the support the organizational team provided her and found it to be a definite asset. Irina also found the attendees to be from a broad spectrum of interests – interior designers to home décor professionals, art buyers and collectors.

As Art! Vancouver has built a reputation over the years -it is enthusiastic about its next show in April 2018. The opportunity for galleries and artists to exhibit their work and become part of this important arts movement in Western Canada is exciting, fun and can be the most important step that galleries and artists can take in building a successful rapport with their client base moving forward. THE MODERNISTS - 3 ARTISTS BIAGIO (GINO) CIVALE A Yonkers artist with a long international activity (67 years since his shows in Rome, Italy and Paris, France). Civale moves constantly from the representational side to the abstract view, almost like an oscillating pendulum clock. Recently he became more interested in the assemblage and collage creation. In this Ossining show Civale may exhibit some of his old work, sort of preferred work, simply his personal choices. Civale is not looking for a coherent presentation of a specific style or period. His artistic career has a large span of sixty-seven years, with over seventy solo exhibitions and participation in over two hundred juried and nonjuried group shows in the five continents. Civale can be found on Instagram @ studiocivale and at http://www.Civale.org © BIAGIO (GINO) CIVALE

PAUL GRECO Life long Yonkers artist Paul Greco, is a member of The Upstream Art Gallery in Hastings-on-Hudson and has Exhibitions internationally. After an expressionist period, with much work based on music, the artist has explored found objects, generally using strangely shaped pieces of metal. The two sided elements are somewhat reminiscent of continents and landforms as viewed from space. For his “Mobiles” Greco leaves one side naturally rusted and on the opposite side he paints designs that are reminiscent of ancient hieroglyphics and possible Extraterrestrial symbols. Greco is deeply interested in humanities future in space and contact with a higher intelligence; he has been researching these subjects for years in a creative and almost obsessive fashion. When Greco’s new Mobiles are shown next to his previous work, including his large abstract paintings, one gets a solid feeling of an advanced accomplishment. © PAUL GRECO

GEORGE M. GUTIERREZ A Riverdale artist, a New York Times photographer, is currently represented by Urban Studio plus Unbound Art Gallery of Yonkers. His studio is in the Carpet Mill Art District, in Yonkers, as well. He is a member of the YOHO group of artists and was a Pulitzer Prize winner in photography. Currently Gutierrez creates large mixed media paintings and combines. Music, musicians and the US flag are recurring subjects of his opus. His experimentation is ambitious both about the colors used and the shapes and the sizes, as well as the texture and the view angles. Gutierrez publishes his work, paintings and photographs, on Instagram, like a picture newspaper or magazine throwback of the past. In addition to his Photographer’s Journal, Gutierrez posts up to 30 images daily. Paintings, collages, drawings and photographs, black and white, and color, using digital as well as film cameras, Nikon and Leica, among others. He can be found on Instagram @gmg423.

Barbaras BilderKunst In the opinion of Mona Youssef Gallery, Curator, Jurist “Barbara Walder has been fascinated by nature since childhood which clearly reflected in her paintings striving to find answers about light and colors in nature and their relationship to man. Working with chalk and gouache, she adds special emphasis on naturalness, authenticity, originality and subjects matter which is important part of her existence. Barbara’s inner rhythm leads her to gracefully connecting elements with sensible brush strokes attracting and mystifying viewers. The moment of “now-ness” the transition from night to day, day to night fascinates her with its peculiar color, a moment of indecision in which its mysterious and perfect beauty unfolds.” Mona Youssef Mona Youssef Gallery 18 • Art & Beyond • November/December 2017

IGOR PROKOP Igor Prokop was born in Budapest in 1953. He graduated from the Teacher Training College in Eger as a teacher of Biology and drawing in 1978. Igor studied Biology at József Attila University and Arts between 1981 and 1983 in Szeged, then philosophy in 1984 in Budapest. He also studied film aesthetics in 1987 and between 1991 and 1993 he studied design at the University of Applied Arts. Igor Prokop studied and worked in New York, Heidelberg, Auckland and several other places around the world. Everything is connected - nothing is meaningless. It does matter how you live, what you create, if you are going to have children, and what you are going to leave to them and their children as well. It does matter how much enlightenment you achieve! Every one of us has his own inner world made out of experience and personal learning within the system. “I want to preserve the past and to design the future. I want

to protect the universal systems and I would like to protect the teachings of those that have thought me everything: The Organon by Aristoteles; Holbach, On the Road by Kerouac; Jack London, Arnold Gehlen, Stephen Hawking and several other teachers from art, music, history and even from the internet. They all became guides on my way.” – Igor Prokop. “Our world permits no further mistakes. United mankind can solve its problems. We must work together! This is my final goal, the inspiration for my pictures: To create tolerant, creative and cooperative systems that are heading toward a spiritual unity. Everyone must learn and teach at his realm, everyone must learn to work together with the power of art. For it is only possible to compare the power of art to that of nature herself” stated Igor Prokop. https://www.saatchiart.com/account/profile/98903

THE CITY THAT NEVER SLEEPS. Archival Pigment Print on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Paper, 15" x 45"

NICHOLAS TEETELLI is both a published and international awardwinning fine art photographer. He was born in New York City and grew up in lower Manhattan’s Greenwich Village. During the late 1960s, and into the 1970s, the Village was a hotbed of culture and the arts. During this period, Teetelli was introduced to art and photography, developing an interest in what would become his lifelong passion. While he took some photography courses in college, Nicholas Teetelli is primarily self-taught. Spanning the last four decades, he has learned, developed, and honed his skills independently, becoming an avid and serious amateur photographer who has recently turned professional. Although he lived and grew up in New York City, he has spent many summers in the Greek islands and has traveled to many other places in the world. He continues to travel extensively in pursuit of the perfect photographic image. During each journey, with camera in hand, he records much of what he sees, sharing the impression of his mind’s eye through composition, light play, and shape and design. His photographic portfolio is diverse: it includes landscape, architecture, portrait, flora and fauna, underwater, and street photography. by artists like: Rembrandt, Chagall, Dali, Ernst, Lichtenstein, and many more. An art catalog came out in 2012 featuring many of those artists as well as the work commissioned from Eugene. From 2010 to his passing in 2014, Eugene Kuperman studied with a renowned Russian artist Leonid Steele whose works are in many museums in the world, including pieces in the notable Tretakov Gallery in Russia. One of Leonid’s former teachers was a student of a famous Russian landscape

He has been exhibiting since 2006. In 2008, Eugene traveled for a study abroad trip to Paris, France to study the old masters from life at the Louvre. He was very much inspired by the Rubens room there as well as the two Michelangelo sculptures; Dying Slave and Rebellious Slave. Another piece that left an impression on Eugene was Theodore Gerricault’s The Raft of the Medusa. Since late 2014, early 2015, Eugene took a new direction in art. He took upon himself to create works of social commentary which to any extent educate, enlighten, and promote change in society. Eugene Kuperman is a listed artist and his work has been published in various art books, magazines, and newspapers. www.kuperart.com

Kirsten Nash Kirsten Nash (KNASH) is an award winning Canadian musician, a touring and session multi-instrumentalist and singer, as well as composer/lyricist. She has had her poetry published in literary reviews, has written two rock operas that were staged in the United States and Canada and has recorded three albums of her own music. Throughout the span of her musical career, Kirsten has always created art, focusing her incredible energy in the past several years on painting; Kirsten is the definition of a Renaissance woman. Kirsten celebrates humanity and nature in her art, in her tireless search for beauty in the soul of the world and people around her. She seeks to give perspective, to inspire emotion and remind us of our connection to the earth and each other, and is honored when she is often told that her audience “feels” her work before they really see or hear it. In the past twelve months Kirsten’s paintings have been shown 24 • Art & Beyond • November/December 2017

at Art!Vancouver 2016, the Red Dot Art Fair Miami 2016, Art New York 2016, the DMF Gala at the Hotel Hermitage in Monaco, and the Princess Grace Academy during the Monaco Grand Prix. Kirsten recently returned from an exhibition at the Gallerie Carre Dore in Monaco that featured two of her paintings, including “Drama Queen” in it’s window. “I am wondering about time - it’s duration, it’s continuity, and our determinant of it. What is it? I am also interested in space, not just it’s ubiquitous third dimension all around us, but mental space, things experienced, and those that are not. The time and mental space during an illness or surgery. I wonder how time and space are constituting our ‘Here and Now’. What creates my reality and me? Which dimension is real? It is really real? I feel that I have experienced other worlds, but is this just my experience, or could there be others who feel the same way? In my attempt to portray other dimensions, in words or in paintings, will others see and feel the work as I do? For me, it is my cosmos.” Beata is most famous for her greatest work I Live In My Own Painting, It means she turned (herself) and her own house into a one huge picture (exterior). GUITAR. Acrilic on Wood, 43cm x 60cm. 2015

Anna Maria Giordano You can see in the varied artworks by Anna Maria Giordano the research into an ultimate end of painting: to transform every kind of experience, from the dream to the everyday life, from the microscope to the stars vision, from realism to abstraction, in a continual pursuit of quality and in the foundation of a new expressive language. Each work reveals an accomplished harmony, and one senses the preparatory part, such as the choice of the medium, on which she will impress pigments, sometimes very earthy, securing the light to be turned into life energy; or as a hardworking choice between dozens of drawings and/or anyway images, to retrace a spiritual path of classical architecture. The result is a pattern of the image with a central perspective into deep space projecting plans, through the firm path of diagonal lines, re-edited the “divina proportione” of the golden section of the Grand Masters. You understand a follow-up, marked through time, as a moment of pure reflection: a formal control of the balance between space, light and image through the scrupulous examination of the ended work at the mirror, subject to the introspective "labor limae". Real root of rigor and memory, that, enhancing severity and discipline, even more vivifies the sight of the harmony of these works. Her works deliver the legacy of the past to the evocative power of the present. Intense brushstrokes, the result of chromatic passages thinning down, but equally sweet and tireless, they own the space: the incommensurable, between the real and the metaphysical, which the peaceful introspective proceeding

by the artist gives to painting of timeless high poetic value, between evocative spirituality and thematic inspiration. Anna Giordano shows us the reality of the unreal: everything is illusion. Even life. On a sort of instinctive expressionism, supplemented by cubist and futurist depictions, Anna Giordano elaborates an image basic structure of high dynamism and immediate visual impact, deliberately without excessive erudite references. From it, the artist moves his tries in an abstract area, in the surrealist and dadaist field with certain unpredictable and playful combinations of shapes and heterogeneous materials. Altogether in her works one can recognize that substantial component of eclecticism that is the basis of the production of Anna Giordano images. A component that, paradoxically, we could consider as homogenizing all her activity. – Manlio Gaddi, September 2016. www.webalice.it/amagiord www.artandbeyondpublications.com • 27

FLYING BIRD. Acrylic on Paper, 11”X14”

Natalya B. Parris Natalya B. Parris express herself and view of the world through color, color combinations and shapes. When she creates abstract art, she feels completely free. There is no taboo of what colors she can choose or combine, or what technique to use. After Ms. Parris have finished painting the artworks, they have life of their own. During the process of drying, acrylic colors may mix together or dry at different

times. These factors could create a picture different than what she planned and that add excitement and element of surprise to her artist journey. This is why every piece of her abstract art is unique, and even she, who knows a lot of tricks, secrets of colors and acrylic paints, cannot create exact duplicates of her paintings. They are inimitable, but they are all united by the fact that they came from her heart, love and soul.

LOVE AND ITS UPS AND DOWNS. Acrylic and Household Ceiling White, 36” x 36”

Stephanie Holznecht STEPHANIE is originally from the Southeast coast of England, immigrating to the USA at the age of nineteen. She attended UW-Whitewater upon arrival, and obtained a BA in graphic design and fine art. She worked as a graphic designer and art director for many years. Although she originally worked in realism, her current artistic style now centers on abstract art. A lot can be attributed to the many workshops in abstract painting she has taken. These inspired her to let go of her minutely detailed realistic artwork and free herself up to feel art in a more emotionally charged manner. Her present style incorporates a number of different paints into each painting. Her mixed media work has inspired her to seek new avenues of inspiration, delving deeper into her emotional center to create more expressive paintings. These paintings have grown ever stronger with each new piece she paints. It has been a journey to reach the level of emotional binding she has attained. Each artwork holds a thought or emotion unique to her, as she manipulates the colors across the canvas. Her mixed media work can have many or few elements within it. It depends on how she feels that day. She moves the paint 30 • Art & Beyond • November/December 2017

around the canvas in a strong decisive manner, knowing her emotions are guiding her. A few moves of her utensils create a window into her soul; open and free from outside influences, yet her emotions have their roots there. The finished piece is a complex creation of mixed emotions, coming together to form a cohesive piece of art. “The inspiration that I take from experiencing life creates a feeling that continues to inspire me. I don’t think, as an artist, that is something I could ever lose,” she says. She has exhibited at countless venues throughout the USA, including New York, Miami, Santa Fe, Las Vegas, Baton Rouge and Laguna Beach, and internationally in Dubai, New Delhi, Florence, Milan, Venice and London. She has also been honored with some prestigious awards worldwide including a Bronze Award at an exhibition in London, England, First Place at an exhibition in Florence, Italy, Best of Show at an exhibition in Chicago IL, and Juror’s Choice at an exhibition in Sturgeon Bay WI. Her art is in the permanent collections of corporate and private establishments worldwide. www.scholznecht.com • sholznecht@gmail.com

"EACH TIME A WOMAN STANDS UP FOR HERSELF, WITHOUT KNOWING IT. POSSIBLY WITHOUT CLAIMING IT, SHE STANDS UP FOR ALL WOMEN." ~ Maya Angelou

As a Professional Photographer it's easy for me to say that my comfort zone lies behind the camera. However when I passed 40 I began thinking about how we focus so much on youth and beauty. Women turn 40 plus every day, and everyday women struggle with their body image. We are taught to be de-sensitized to our own selves and to believe 34 • Art & Beyond • November/December 2017

life is for the young and super attractive. Objectified, treated poorly and overlooked by even ourselves, this series was not to show myself, but meant to level the playing field. If you don't think over 40 can be sexy and that we aren't more than just women, your sadly mistaken - We are Artist, Dr's, Mom's, Sisters, best-friends, Professional and all of the above - we are

powerhouses, forces to be reckoned with. We hold down jobs, raise our children, We are; the past, the future and beautiful everyday and every year. We are wisdom and wisdom is sexy. Empowerment doesn't come from what others think about us- its about how we feel about ourselves and the pure simple fact is that just because we are women - we are powerful and beautiful. wendycocophotography.zenfolio.com www.artandbeyondpublications.com • 35

Sandy Den Hartog is a Native Californian. She now resides in Lake Havasu City Arizona. Her current home, she and her husband had built for themselves, faces the water with the desert a short distance behind and as a backdrop a dramatic and rather large mountain range. With this view Sandy has taken the time to absorb the impact of this beauty and pieced together jewelry that exemplifies each geographical characteristic, blending them into original jewelry objects. She is an Award Winning Artist. Sandy has placed in numerous Juried Art Shows throughout Arizona. Her romantic pieces of art continue to be showcased at David Rafaels in the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. Other distinguished pieces of jewelry designed completely from within her personal workshop are in the James Ratliff Gallery in Sedona, Arizona and Africa and Beyond Gallery in La Jolla, CA. Malouf on The Plaza in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She is a self taught artist. Her jewelry displays both serene and harmonious qualities that have been

regarded as the highest of models. Her work covers a wide range of Style, from Ethnic, Classic, to Over the Top and Everyday Chic. She refers to herself as displaying "ARTISTIC FREEDOM." Sandy loves to mix everything up. The old with the new, and the big with the small. Although quite versatile in her design she leans toward the large and Ethnic Style. Many of Her Designs are created as she sleeps. She considers them to be her most excellent art pieces. Gemstones and Artifacts used in her talented designs have been found in her many World Wide Travels. These and and so much more from the nations she has visited, are incorporated into the designs made by Sandy. Sandy also feels, "If you can't see your JEWELRY from across the room, why bother." sandzibarjc@hotmail.com

STACKED BLUE FIGURE. Argentinian Blue Onyx on Limestone, 8h x 10 x 8

Steven Lustig This art is born out of a love of the human form and its natural motion. Throughout time, man has studied virtually every aspect of himself in great depth. These sculptures represent a further step in that long lineage of study. They are founded in the very basis of the ancient tradition of human anatomy. A study that dates back to the Greeks and beyond. The sculptures incorporate aspects of human motion that started with Kouros figures and developed during the renaissance. These modern versions of this ancient art form are further influenced by the works of the Italian Futurists, Umberto Boccioni, Balls and others. They take flight through the sheer force of human biomechanics and the internal energy that stones and human models bring to the process. Each one of these sculptures comes directly from the beautiful art form of life drawing. Live models, many of whom are artists in their own right, bring their art of human motion into the process. It’s in capturing the flow of these beautiful human beings in drawings that the sculptures are born. You can follow the development of this work on Instagram and FB. Recently the works have been featured at Sculpture in the Park 2016, Loveland Colorado, Spectrum Miami, Art Expo

New York, Blue Azul Collection, San Diego, and Trousdale Modern, Palm Springs. This year, I exibited at the La Quinta Arts Festival, March 2017 for the first time, Sculpture in the Park, Loveland Colorado, 2017 and more. . . www.stevenlustigfineart.com
