La Fourchette

the perfect unity of a good food and the wine

P

acking is done, suitcases are closed and we are ready to go! Destination – France - in particular two regions, Burgundy and Loire Valley. Both regions are rich with historical and cultural events and we’ve choose to experience them by driving though the country. One of the important parts in our travels was to learn about the wine of the region and where there is wine, there is food, really good food that is. After driving through a number of vineyards, touring through some amazing wine sellers and eating incredible food, I chose one restaurant in particular I wish to share with you in this issue. La Fourchette is a charming little restaurant located on a quiet street in Ambroise owned by the chef's family Clement Le Levier.

Bon Appétit! The three course dinned was delicious, beautifully presented and accompanied with a good selection of local wines. Mila Ryk, publisher

Clement Le Levier, 27 years old started out as a chef. He has always been passionate about cooking but began learning after high school in 2011 and worked for two years with some well known fast food establishments. During

6 • Art & Beyond • October Special 2018

those years he studied at the Jeanne Delanoue high school and worked in Ambroise at a restaurant learning the basics of being a chef. Upon graduating in 2012, Clement stayed one year in Ambroise at the restaurant where

he started and decided to learn different cooking techniques, he then traveled to Saint Martin de Ré, a small island on Atlantic coast in France where he worked at a large restaurant as a chef de partie for entrees and

desserts. There he learned how to cook fish, sauces amongst other things and a year later he became second and chef. After a year on the island Clement decided to come back to Ambroise in 2013 after the birth of his son because the job was very time consuming and was no longer suitable for his new family life. He now works as chef de parties in Chenocreaux at a semi-gourmet restaurant where he learned another way to cook, more precise, creative and demanding. He learned how to work with fresh vegetables and a small menu.

fresh food and more freedom work with the products of his choosing. This is where he really learned to be a Chef in a small restaurant. Encouraged by his boss, he developed his creativity and the famous Chefs touch. This experience made him want to open his own restaurant with his wife and father. In April 2017 Clement opened La Fourchette, a small restaurant in Amrbroise where you can find only 8 tables inside and 5 outdoors. The menu forms based on the freshest products he finds that day at the market. Clement works with local producers for everything he can.

In 2015 Clement worked as Chef in a restaurant in Ambroise called La Pause du Temps where the menu is very small,

Clement is inspired by the world of food and cooking, he uses spices from around the world, including India and mixes many

ideas in his preparation of French traditional cuisine. Clement would like to travel more and discover new food and new ways of cooking it. La Fourchette can be found in Rick Steve’s guide to France and Clement and his wife Amélie would love to expand and open restaurants in England and other countries.

CONCERTO. 36" x 48"

I was exposed to the world of visual art at young age, in my birthplace, Melbourne, Australia. My mother painted in oils and sculpted, and she often encouraged me to paint along with her.  After high school, I went to Ontario College of Art in Canada, where my focus was fine art. I had intended to carry on in my education to become a medical illustrator (as I also had an interest in health care), however I got sidetracked and moved to the Bahamas. There, I married and had two little girls. During my six years on the island, I painted in watercolor and sold my work through local tourist galleries. I eventually moved back to Canada and became absorbed with the demands of everyday life. In the last 15 years, I have been fortunate to have the time to delve more deeply into my art and yoga career. I believe that my diverse life experiences (relationships, travel, career changes and personal interests) are represented in my 8 • Art & Beyond • October Special 2018

paintings. My style is considered "whimsical" ....a reflection of my thoughts, dreams and hopes for a happier world. While I still love the challenge of portrait work, a more animated portrayal of the female image has become my trademark. My "feminine spirits" have evolved from fairies, yogis and mermaids to women with attitude (the girlfriend's series)..all symbolizing the inner strength and grace of the female. My paintings often evoke a smile or a chuckle, as the viewer can often see elements of themselves in each. The work that I currently create and exhibit is a continuation on the theme of the Feminine Spirit, with a current influence of my life on the Sunshine Coast of beautiful British Columbia.. www.annagreenart.com

AUTUMN’S ARRIVAL. Oil on Canvas, 41" x 49". 2016

ANNE BRAWER SCHWARTZ is a dedicated abstractionist whose painterly imagination remains grounded in the world of places and things. While pursuing a degree in Graphic Design from the University of Oregon and further studies at the Gemological Institute of America, Schwartz always maintained a painting practice, which she kept up during her 25-year career as a renowned couture jewelry designer. The legacy of her expertise as a designer is apparent in her abstract paintings and their considerations of detail, drawing, design principles, color, texture, and refracted light.

Having some years ago rededicated herself to her painting studio, today her canvases have been shown in numerous group shows and are represented in collections around the world. She frequently works with art consultants and interior designers, placing her works in businesses, hotels, private homes, and design firms. Being based in LA, her paintings have naturally also been featured in numerous television shows and motion pictures. Presented by LarkGallery larkgallery.com www.artandbeyondpublications.com • 9

REALITY OF FREEDOM. 42" x 60"

While portrait and figure in all its flavors is definitely my thing, it is amazing how little attention i actually pay to my portrayed subjects. i do not ask questions about their lives, personalities, likes and dislikes - i simply look… The human face and figure are -in my mind- a pretext to working on an abstract composition which has a “human external envelope” as it’s underlying scaffolding. it certainly does not sound too good, but it’s an honest to god truth. Why is it then, that the paintings convey inner struggle, conflict, suffering and all other aspects of the subjects’ personalities so well, and many times exaggerate them, you may ask? As often is the case, i’m not exactly sure, but i think it has to do with the fact that all of the things which we deal with

10 • Art & Beyond • October Special 2018

during our lives, to one degree or another, get written into our faces. They are recorded there permanently and i, who tend to look at the person hard and long, simply have a better chance of getting them discovered, recorded, translated to a visual language and amplified to the point that they affect the viewer. Either way, people are affected enough to care and to invest their hard earned money into buying my paintings or commissioning portraits of themselves and their loved ones. EXPRESSIONS. Clay, 12" x 10". 2018

Most recent projects is a series called "FASCINATING RESILIENT WOMEN" - I'm inspired by the strong women of 2018 who came forward and told their story. In this series I'm using multimedia materials - Clay, Cement, Brunches, stones, metals.... Recent Project: “AERIALISTS IN MOTION” – Deeply inspired by the motions and fabric used by a professional aerialist. I captured a sequence of 4 poses and began sculpting . Starting with wire armature and oil clay forming the sculpture and casted in acrylic bronze powder.

I believe that I was born an artist. My sculptures represent my passions of movement, music and nature. My art is especially a reflection of my early career as a dancer. Growing up on the beach in Israel, I was motivated by the fresh air of the sea, feeling the crumbly sand on my toes and listening to music. My soul awakened to the beats of music and I began to dance as a form of expression. When I was four years old I started taking Ballet classes. At the age of 14, I became a professional dancer throughout Israel and was featured in the theater, movies, television shows, and the Israeli opera. My parents always believed in me and helped me to pursue my dreams. In college I studied ceramics, painting, and pottery

which led to sculpting. Using my hands to form, discover and create the clay connects me to earth and brings me back to nature. My two passions collide as nature and movement become one in a sculpture. I use metal, water clay, oil clay, wood, and recycled materials to sculpt. The finished product is in an acrylic, bronze, fired clay, wood or natural recycled objects. Spirituality plays a big role in my work. I begin each project with lighting a candle and saying a prayer to my spirit guides asking for guidance with my work. Listening to music allows my body to move and mold the sculptures. WHAT THE HELL? Marker & Acrylic, 30 cm x 50 cm.

HUI-JU CHEN (MICKEY) graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1996. Even though she has not been using art and design as her main profession, she has kept her passion of making art until today. Along with her teaching job at Shantou University, she always finds time to create various styles of work. It is interesting to see how her work has varied from photography to acrylic painting to mixed-media to 12 • Art & Beyond • October Special 2018

collage. She hopes to keep being experimental because she believes that, in the art world, there are no real errors but different thoughts and processes with different outcomes. Without experimentation, she feels, art is not art. She gets inspiration from different aspects of life. She always hopes to learn and create different kinds of work by making use of her own different life experiences.

WORDS MEAN NOTHING. Marker & Acrylic, 30 cm x 50 cm.

It is normal to have lots of frustrations and doubts as one goes through the phases of creation. For Mickey, the biggest frustration has been the temptation and pressure to build and keep up one particular style in order to be a professional artist. Though it is true that a dedication to one style may enable one to come a little closer to perfection in that style, Mickey feels that art is about taking risks. If she is satisfied

with one style, she believes that she loses a very important quality of art--the excitement of experiencing different things in the world. Therefore, she hopes to continue working in different ways and experimenting with different styles. Art making, for her, is not just a way to express herself but a way to define her existence. www.ratgoofy.com www.artandbeyondpublications.com • 13

NICHOLAS TEETELLI is both a published and international award-winning fine art photographer. He was born in New York City and grew up in lower Manhattan’s Greenwich Village. During the late 1960s, and into the 1970s, the Village was a hotbed of culture and the arts. During this period, Teetelli was introduced to art and photography, developing an interest in what would become his lifelong passion. While he took some photography courses in college, Nicholas Teetelli is primarily self-taught. Spanning the last four decades, he has learned, developed, and honed his skills independently, becoming an avid and serious amateur photographer who has recently turned professional. Although he lived and grew up in New York City, he has spent many summers in the Greek islands and has traveled to many other places in the world. He continues to travel extensively in pursuit of the perfect photographic image. During each journey, with camera in hand, he records much of what he sees, sharing the impression of his mind’s eye through composition, light play, and shape 16 • Art & Beyond • October Special 2018

beautiful art form of life drawing. Live models, many of whom are artists in their own right, bring their art of human motion into the process. It’s in capturing the flow of these beautiful human beings in drawings that the sculptures are born.

They are founded in the very basis of the ancient tradition of human anatomy. A study that dates back to the Greeks and beyond. The sculptures incorporate aspects of human motion that started with Kouros figures and developed during the renaissance. These modern versions of this ancient art form are further influenced by the works of the Italian Futurists, Umberto Boccioni, Balls and others. They take flight through the sheer force of human biomechanics and the internal energy that stones and human models bring to the process.

HOMAGE TO KLIMPT. Collage, 16" x 20"

Georganne Aldrich Heller, daughter of the famous fashion designer and art collector Larry Aldrich and a successful designer is an artist in her own right. She makes collages building on the vision that drove her long career as a theatrical producer in New York. Each collage and boxed construction represents a setting of evolving mysteries, opening the way to surreal dramas inviting viewers to enter the world of her dreams, yet unruled by any sort of literary content. Instead, Heller favors a lucid, iconic approach where the “thingness” of shapes and substances is allowed its own expression, her visual reasoning riding on the dynamic that powered western art through a half century of experiment, from cubism to De Stijl. BREATH OF ETERNITY 2. Mixed Media, Collage on Board, 48" x 36"

Lark Pilinsky Lark, your creativity is always a blazing fire of natural beauty. And my understanding of this comes when I look at your canvases and “sing = mumble” trying to translate your paintings into music. This is my hobby. Scriabin, as we know, loved to create The Color of Music, and I, forgive my indiscretion, love to create the opposite - the music of color. What does it mean? When I explore, for example, your painting, first of all I endow each color and shades with notes: do, re, mi, etc., as well as do sharp, re-diez or re-flat, etc., (in order to correctly match the color and sound, I use a formula from physics that relates sound frequencies to color ones).

24 • Art & Beyond • October Special 2018

After that, I “navigate” through the picture, clockwise and toward the center, “sing = mumble” and record it on an audio recorder. This is what I call The Music of Colors. Listening to it, I realized that your paintings are between Mozart (nature, streams, birds are singing) and Beethoven (your soul is stormy, vivid and mighty, breaking through to freedom...). ‑ Vitaly Eremenko, Doctor of Science Presented by LarkGallery larkgallery.com

TATIANA YARTSEVA To make art and see it being born from my own hands fulfills one of my greatest dreams. I like the moment when a new creation is not yet mine, not yet in my imagination - but already is tickling my subconscious. Working with paints, knowing their elasticity, and exploring new textures and color shades allows me to move them on the canvas spontaneously. But it only seems so. In reality it happens under the guidance of my soul. It is my soul that expresses itself on canvas, showing its flights and falls, joys and sadness, and then gives birth to an image. My hands only choose and move colors around, before the appearance of a new image gives rise to new fantasies. When a fantasy desires to continue over a 30 • Art & Beyond • October Special 2018

series of my art, the process gives birth to imaginary realities which emerge from the depth of my soul and cry out to find release on the canvas. Only then can my hands themselves put down the paints and hang alongside my body. Fatigue and relief cover me with a light veil. Nothing more needs to be corrected and completed. My soul enjoys the liberation of previously collected feelings and impressions of life whose meaning was unclear to me but which I can now express. Also what my paintings let me express on canvas is a joyful light shining from the soul. It is the wonderful space of creation. Presented by LarkGallery larkgallery.com
