Paul Scott Malone

UNTITLED (FLORAL, EASTER). Acrylic on Paper, 21” x 21”. 2019

PAUL SCOTT MALONE’s artwork has appeared several times in Art & Beyond, as well as other publications. He is a visual and literary artist whose career now spans three decades. His work has been featured in a number of exhibitions and galleries, and he is the author of three books of fiction. In his paintings, Malone strives to depict, with a purely imaginative vision, the drama and beauty of the natural world in its origins and in its present state, often turning to structures built by human hands to examine how life evolves day by day. In 2017, Malone’s home and studio, in Rockport, Texas, were destroyed by Hurricane Harvey. He and his wife lived as refugees for nine months. Since returning to work early this year, he has largely devoted himself to the task of portraying the warlike violence done not only to the place and its fragile environment, but to the daily lives and emotions of those who experience such a disaster. His florals, on the other hand, depict the simple joys that the Earth can offer during times of tragedy, recovery and resurrection. paulscottmalone.com

AURORA BOREALIS. Acrylic, Tempera and Latex Paint on Canvas 24” x 36”

VEILED SECRETS. Acrylic, Tempera and Latex Paint on Canvas, 40” x 30”

STEPHANIE is originally from the Southeast coast of England, immigrating to the USA at the age of nineteen. She attended UW-Whitewater upon arrival, and obtained a BA in graphic design and fine art. She worked as a graphic designer and art director for many years. Although she originally worked exclusively in realism, her current artistic style now centers on abstract art. A lot can be attributed to the many workshops in abstract art she has taken over the years, that inspired her to let go of her minutely detailed realistic artwork, and free herself up to feel art in a more emotionally charged manner. Stephanie’s present style incorporates a number of different paints into each artwork, including: acrylic, fluid acrylic, tempera and latex paint. Stephanie’s mixed media work has inspired her to seek new avenues of inspiration, delving deeper into her emotional center to create more expressive paintings. These paintings have grown ever stronger with each new piece she paints. Each artwork holds a thought or emotion unique to her, as she manipulates the colors across the canvas. A few moves of her utensils creates a window into Stephanie’s core; open and free from outside influences, yet her emotions have their roots there. The finished piece is a complex creation of mixed

emotions, coming together to form a cohesive piece of art. “I invest in the creation of a piece of art to convey what I have inside: my thinking, my emotions, my life, my essence and my soul. It’s also a way I can reach my own desires and essential demands out of life. The inspiration that I take from experiencing life creates a feeling I don’t think, as an artist, I could ever lose.” Stephanie has exhibited at countless venues throughout the USA, including: New York, Miami, Santa Fe, Las Vegas, Laguna Beach, Los Angeles and Sacramento, and extensively in Italy, including: Florence, Milan, Rome, Venice, Palermo and Spoleto. She has also exhibited in Dubai, New Delhi, and London. She has been honored with some prestigious awards worldwide, including a Bronze Award at an exhibition in London England, First Place in Montecarlo di Lucca Italy, two Merit Awards in Palermo and Venice Italy, Best of Show at an exhibition in Chicago, and Juror’s Choice at an exhibition in Sturgeon Bay WI. Stephanie’s art is in the permanent collections of corporate and private establishments worldwide. sholznecht@gmail.com • www.sholznecht.com

Herbert Hermans

ILLUSION 2. Oil on Canvas, 80cm x 80cm HERBERT HERMANS was born in 1947 in Voorburg in The Netherlands. Since the end of the 80s, Hermans has been a passionate painter and he owns an atelier in the historic city center of Gouda. His work consists mainly of oil paintings, with his major theme being industrial and cultural heritage. Hermans has followed different courses in acrylic, water media and oil painting, starting in 1985 at the Dutch Art School SKVR in Rotterdam in The Netherlands. The last decade his work mainly is concentrated to oil paintings. The main theme of his work is industrial and cultural heritage. Sources of inspiration for his paintings are abandoned and often ruinous buildings. He records these often before demolition by photographs and sketches. Use of colour and use of light make his paintings special events. Dark disconsolateness is changing into light and warmth. Regularly he adds characters into his paintings who provide another or an extra dimension to the image, like brides, monks and observers. The tension in their relation is sometimes nearly tangible. Besides the oil paint for the top layers he mostly uses acryl paint as ground-colour or priming. In several paintings he has used gold foil, acryl modelling and glazing gel. Herbert was nominated in 2014, 2016 and 2018 for the title for the Dutch title 'Painting of the year’. He won the title 'Artist of the Month' in April 2017 and in October 2018 he won the 2nd price of the professional jury at the Annual Dutch Art Fair in Amsterdam. Hermans has had exhibitions in eight countries in Europe, in the USA and China. His works have been published in many art books and his artwork has been published and sold worldwide. berthermans.kunstinzicht.nl

Dan McCormack The Nude at Home

In this series, I use traditional 8 x 10 black-and-white film in a homemade oatmeal-box pinhole camera to create wide-angle distortions with the cylindrical focal plane. There is a sense of discovery and joy in this process, as the resulting images are unpredictable and surprising. The familiar becomes unfamiliar, the ordinary extraordinary. By then replacing the black-and-white

values with subtle hues through successive pulling of curves in Photoshop, I interact with and interpret the image. The “Nude at Home” is a subset of a larger pinhole-camera project begun in 1998. In this series, I photograph the model nude in her own home, apartment, or studio, surrounded by her possessions for two-minute exposures. A collaboration between model and photographer, the images attempt to reveal an intimate portrait of the subject.
