The See Here is a forum for interaction with experimental jewellery practice. It provides public space for showing work that: explores the terrain between body adornment and issues of fine art and craft, has a relationship with what we call contemporary jewellery and is made by jewellers or artists with background dealings in contemporary jewellery.

We are happy to report that The See Here has a new site in central Wellington, a move up and into the main center from Newtown where we were previously. The new physical space is: 19 Tory Street, Wellington.

Dog Park: a space in a place Dog Park (DP) is a non-profit art project space in Christchurch. Now into the second exhibition of the programme, DP seeks to present challenging and innovative work fostering critical debate about contemporary practice. Although a loss of gallery space in Christchurch contributed to the motivation to establish DP, the general scope of the local arts scene was reasonably exhausted by the time the earthquake physically destroyed it. Christchurch was suffering from a loss of momentum and despite a few glimmers here and there, the city was predominantly recognised for its slower pace, drab infrastructure, and dusty bureaucrats. Located in Waltham, DP is a 9x9m tilt slab unit on Wilson’s Road in the shadow of the now liquefied AMI Stadium. The area mainly deals in light industry, freight trains pass-by pedalling scrap metallers, who work among the low buzz of nearby fabrication businesses. Not exactly a bustling urban centre of culture one would expect, but perhaps more interesting when it comes down to it… The first exhibition at DP was titled Nice to Meet You and was comprised of new work by artists Helen Calder and Miranda Parkes. Collaborating through conversation, they worked to deconstruct the notions of painting and in the process generated a series of explosively colourful three-dimensional paintings that also celebrated the opening of the space. Parkes and Calder hope that Nice to Meet You will be the first of a series of collaborative projects based around painting in the expanded field. Currently showing is ‘This is an Invitation’ a project by Christchurch designer Matthew Galloway, designer, editor and publisher of The Silver Bulletin. For the past two years, The Silver Bulletin has navigated the collective cultural memory of both Christchurch and further afield, giving the publication a powerful presence in the wider community through the idea that it is not fixed to a physical location or static theme; it is anchored only to the evolving nature of its contributors and their surroundings. For the duration of the show, Galloway will be working to create a special edition of The Silver Bulletin from within DP. By altering the circumstances of production, this special edition will respond to the previous issue’s content. Galloway has invited a series of contributors to visit the space and work with him. In this way, gradually constructing the new issue will consequently change the space daily thus every visitor will experience the show differently as the days progress. In the coming years, we hope that Dog Park will become a point of reference for the redevelopment of Christchurch’s cultural landscape—a space that consistently contributes and challenges a place that we have all come to know a little too well probably for the wrong reasons. DP is especially grateful to those who have supported the establishment of the space—Creative New Zealand, Placemakers, Scared Hill Wines and our enthusiastic bunch of volunteers and supporters.
