What can we expect to see in this upcoming exhibition?
Going back to the inspiration for this exhibition, the works are constructed around large, childlike faces, each one representing a different character. Each character in turn represents a type of person in our world, but in a primitive way. There is a real naivety to the works, and yet at the same time each character draws us into their own story.
Tell us more about your creative process?
I always start with chaos. I start with more and delete! It never ends with the way I start. I need to feel the work as I go along. In this case, I had to delete a lot more than usual, to get to the minimalistic and primitive effect that I wanted.
Who and what inspires your artwork? Karel Appel, Picasso, Matisse and De Kooning.
What do you think it is about your work that immediately captures the hearts of collectors?
Ultimately I believe it is the size, scale and impact of the works. It is bold, it tells a story and I think that captures the hearts and minds of people. For those buyers that I have been fortunate enough to actually talk with, in some way they have personally connected with the artwork. And that gives me great satisfaction.
