GUY PHILOCHE STANLEY
The New York artist premiere series Give Us Our Flowers
By Rebeca Herrero. Photography by Michael Goldman
One of the top contemporary artists from New York City who is taking the world of art by storm is Haitian born American artist, Guy Stanley Philoche. As his name says, the French word “Guy” represents an allegorical interpretation of the male component that interacts with the daily experiences of modern city living, which is in fact, a true statement of what Philoche represents. As soon as you enter into his studio in East Harlem, we see the white walls sweetly adoring some of his artistic statements written on the walls. “Post No Bills”, an allegory on his view of city living in New York, where we are constantly bombarded with signs that direct us not to advertise or not to post anything, is a true testament of his due diligence as an artist.
On the window, next to a table full of cans with brushes and accumulation of acrylics and oil tubes, is a piece of paper resembling a rat with a paint brush. The sweetness of his art is a compilation of dynamic and contrasting metaphors that allege the true beauty of one of the most vibrant, if not the most, city in the world, New York City.
As a 5-year-old child of immigrant parents from Haiti, Philoche learned English watching cartoons and daytime TV while living in Connecticut with his very blue-collar oriented parents, who thought being a doctor or having a government position with a pension was the ultimate goal for their offspring. “But I took another route, I wanted to be an artist,” confesses the handsome and charismatic painter, whose refined art education comes from the prestigious Paier School of Arts and eventually Yale University. “I left my home at 17, just after graduating from High school and I never looked back.”
He sustained his college years with bartending jobs, making a decent amount of money, just paying 500 dollars for a studio in
New Haven. “As soon as I graduated from Yale, I learned how to do portraits, color theory, the fundamentals, but in my mind, I really wanted to understand what would make me the greatest artist. I was like a horse with blinders, I just had one goal, I wouldn’t look elsewhere to achieve a considerable status as an artist, in a period of time.” Hence the world of Guy Stanley Philoche.
Beautiful paintings and series concocted from his imaginative and festive mind that has depth and feeling. “This new series was inspired by death. One of my most beloved friends, David Brown, passed
the people in our lives today and give them their flowers on this side, while we can. His aura is not of a regular male painter, thus the significance of his art. It is a dichotomy between forces that perpetuate our psyche. Good or evil, ugly or beautiful, life is complex. It is in this realm of opposite attractions and ideas that his art has evolved to the level of a great living artist. But the path to conquer his ambitions, had a deeper method than most artist.
“I see so many artists whose focus is just to sell. Make money. I’ve seen recent graduates achieve immediate recognition and money. Yes, even selling at 200,000
away recently and I couldn’t understand the pain that I was going through. It was a feeling of sadness which followed the wake. At his funeral, I saw all these wonderful people that truly loved him saying, ‘I should have told him how much I love him and thank you, etc’. I thought to myself, why didn’t we do it while he was alive. Thus, the title to my paintings, which combine images of people that I admire with the flowers that adorn our gardens, or even our coffins”, said Philoche while wearing these creative modern outfits that are just exquisite. These works show strength, resilience in families that are rarely celebrated. The intention is to celebrate and give people recognition, love, respect every day. Too often we wait to honor people when they are gone, we should be saluting and toasting
dollars apiece, or entering a museum exhibit right away. But artists need to understand their work, be patient with it. Compartmentalize paintings, lives, processes, just living is what it is all about at the end of the day, because there is a long time forward, is a long road ahead where sometimes you go back in time. I give you a great example. Fifteen years ago, I did a series titled No Comment, women of the world with high profile careers that struggled to get ahead in a male dominated world. Paintings of women with duct tape on their mouths, like prisoners of the boy’s clubs they were in. At the time I introduced them to art collectors and galleries and received no interest. As an artist we have two options either paint over the work or wrap them up and put them away. I put them away in my studio. Fast forward

years later the emergence of the “Me Too Movement” happened. These paintings would have their moment after all, their voices finally heard. The same collectors and galleries now clamoring to have them as part of their collection. The paintings were my absolute best, they were created ahead of their time,” explains the philosophical Philoche, whose business savvy tactics also propelled his art career.
“Stuffed, stuffed, stuffed, that’s all I did with business cards and flyers we produced at the time. I would go out and leave my cards in taxis and best-selling books at Barnes and Nobles. I only wanted to do art. At the beginning, not being known, I had a goal. I went out every night meeting people. Started selling my paintings at 2,000 dollars each. Soon after, I realized why not stuff the flyers in the Village Voice, the weekly newspaper most in demand. People saw so many of them, they
realized, wow this guy must be famous. Eventually I got my first art dealer, Art Gotham. Kimberly, the dealer, was amazing. We worked well together; she understood the value of my work as an artist. The more exposure she gave me, the more the work became valued. Every step of the way, I didn’t stop.” It’s been more than 20 years since the journey began and now Guy’s work sells between 30k and 110k. It is sacrifice and more sacrifice of keeping a paint brush in his hand, his two mottos tattooed on his body “live by the brush, die by the brush and without risk there can be no glory,” is what makes artist Guy Stanley Philoche, succeed.
Guy Stanley Philoche currently lives and works in New York City and is represented by Cavalier Gallery which locations in New York, Greenwich, Nantucket and Palm Beach. Follow him on Instagram @guystanleyphiloche.

THE NEW FACE OF FASHION GROUP INTERNATIONAL
In 1928, seventeen remarkable women gathered in New York City to discuss how to support and create community as women executives in fashion at a time when women were underrepresented. That pivotal meeting proved to be the start of a visionary new organization: Fashion Group International (FGI). The gathering and charters included: Eleanor Roosevelt, later First Lady; Vogue Editor-in-Chief Edna Woolman Chase, cosmetics magnate Helena Rubenstein; costume designer Edith Head; and other icons who spoke of the pressing need to support the American fashion business and the women behind it.
Their daring vision of a female-driven, female-led industry forum predated mainstream women’s empowerment movements by decades.
Decades on, FGI ultimately opened its membership to all genders and FG’s global headquarters remains in New York City but has grown exponentially with 26 chapters worldwide and a roster of over 5,000 members.
Women have led FGI from its inception, including Maryanne Grisz, who became FGI President and CEO in 2019. Under Grisz’ leadership, Fashion Group International has elevated its digital presence and partners, leads new conversations and programs in the inclusion space, recognizes collaborative creative forms such as music, art and film influencing fashion and has initiated important commentary around gender, mentorship and how to support emerging brands.
“FGI honors its legacy”, Grisz says, “by continuing to support fashion professionals at every level, from students and startups to seasoned professionals. Our goal is to spark creativity, fuel innovation, and advance the business of fashion by providing access to thought-leaders, education, and connection.”

THE ULTIMATE RECYCLED PRODUCT: FURNITURE MADE FROM GARBAGE
By Bennett Marcus
What do We Do With Our Garbage?
Environmental issues are in the spotlight like never before with climate change escalating disastrous storms, droughts, wildfires and intense heat waves around the globe. One ecological problem that has been causing alarm for decades is waste disposal – it was back in 1987 that a barge adrift for five months bearing 6 million pounds of New York garbage made headlines, turned away by six states and three foreign countries. Our landfills are full, and toxic. What do we do with our garbage?
Goal: To End Landfills
Now, one company has a revolutionary solution: furniture made from garbage. Ecogensus has patented waste recycling machinery called the Rhino Recycler which processes waste into printed out “rods” which are then placed into molds and pressed into board shapes used to create luxury furniture in a wood-like substitute. The process is also incredibly uncomplicated; an assortment of typical household waste - food waste, cardboard and other paper, mixed plastics, yard waste, textiles, wood chips - are dumped unsorted into the recycling machine.
The boards are more solid than wood, lower in moisture, and more stable. And it’s beautiful. “People look at this and if you don't tell them what it is, they have no idea that it was made
from waste, they assume it’s some kind of granite-wood combination,” says Bjornulf Ostvik, Ecogensus founder and CEO. “But if you're buying one of these pieces, you are also directly helping stop landfills and dumps in a way that's never been able to be done before.” Landfills, he notes, are the world’s 3rd largest source of methane, a greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming.
Hand-made Furniture; Artist & Designer Collaborations In The Works
For now, Ostvik is designing the furniture and making it by hand along with some staff and local artisan support. Current handcrafted tables are priced at $4 to $5,000, comparable to Restoration Hardware price points. The brand is seeking out artists and designers for collaborations. “I don't consider myself a real designer, I'm just showing what we can do with the post-waste material. Future lines will be
produced at higher volume and are expected to achieve lower price points.”
Available Online, NYC Showroom to Come
Currently sales are online only via their newly launched website TheHouseOfEcologie.com.
Offshoot Of Lumber Substitute for Affordable Housing
The furniture line came to fruition while Ostvik was working on producing sustainable building materials to be used for affordable housing for the developing world, as well as in the developed world. While building a tiny house in his backyard, he realized some of these recycled materials had a beautiful, natural look, and figured that furniture pieces made from it would be easier to show to people.
Launched Ecogensus In 2015
After years as an innovator at aerospace company Lockheed Martin, Ostvik launched Ecogensus in 2015, focusing on alternative energy, sustainable materials manufacturing, resource recovery and advanced recycling methods. He earned a Masters of Public Administration from Cornell, and a JD from George Washington University Law School. Based in Connecticut, Ostvik is a longtime supporter of the World Wildlife Foundation and The Nature Conservancy. TheHouseofEcologie.com

The respected dietitian takes charge of your nutrition… Always the best results!
Dr. Gregg Szerlip a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine and Melissa Callari, a Registered Dietitian own Serentiy Medical Consulting PLLC, a functional and regenerative medical practice in Locust Valley, NY. Together Dr. Szerlip, an anesthesiologist who has been at the forefront of pain management and opioid addiction medicine for almost 30 years and Melissa, a nutrition expert with over 20 years of experience, collaborate to provide each patient with the tools needed to improve their overall wellbeing. They marry years of highly specialized training with state-of-theart testing, to ensure patients obtain a fully personalized experience.
Immediately, one is captivated when speaking to Melissa. The mother of one, has a vibrant personality with a firm stand on how we should protect our bodies from the constant stress and hazards of our modern life rhythms.
“Our collaboration started out of necessity. When Zakary, our son was born, we were faced with the challenges of having a child with ADHD. Standard practices in medicine and behavioral science were ineffective and we were driven to search for alternative methods. Our
research led us to very strategic testing as we examined everything from standard bloodwork to DNA, food sensitivity testing, micronutrients and the microbiome. These results allowed us to optimize his gut-brain axis through specific nutrition modifications and supplementation. As a result, his behavior greatly improved, and we were able to avoid him taking the medications
that were being recommended by the classic medical model. It all starts with our genetics and what we put into our bodies” explained Melissa.
After applying these protocols to effectively manage her family challenges, Melissa has come to realize how vital proper testing is in determining one’s nutritional needs. “It’s just so important.

STARCHILD ROOFTOP
Operational year-round, Starchild Rooftop boasts two outdoor patios and a retractable rooftop that can quickly transform to become a fully open-air space with panoramic views of the New York skyline and Hudson River. Open seven nights a week, Starchild Rooftop is the neighborhood’s newest destination for Happy Hour, corporate events and late-night revelry in a safe and secure envi-
ronment. Thursdays through Saturdays, DJs, special guest artists and original programming elevate the energy as guests commune, dance, and party under the stars. Rockwell Group’s design celebrates the energy of the surrounding neighborhood and a trending cocktail list featuring five types of Espresso Martinis, shareable table side drinks and an OnlyFans Martini can be found on the menu.
What is considered healthy for one person is not necessarily healthy for another. For instance, one of my patients, a top Disney executive thought he was being proactive by drinking lemon water and consuming what he thought was a “healthy diet”. However, after testing for food sensitivities we were able to determine that he has a sensitivity to lemon and other typically “healthy foods”. By making very specific changes we were able to alleviate his joint pain and overall inflammation. Doing so also allowed him to lose stubborn body fat and return to weightlifting. This is only one example of many patients we have treated and confirms that unknown sensitives can have unintended consequences to both our physical and mental function.”
Dr. Szerlip adds, “towards the goal of optimizing one’s existence, one of the most important services provided by Serenity Medical Consulting PLLC, is bio-identical hormone replacement therapy for men and women. This type of treatment, especially for those beyond 40 years of age is vital and the results are simply remarkable. There is not a single individual whom we have treated who has not felt a tremendous improvement in sleeping patterns, strength, mental acuity, and the best part of all, increased libido!
Serenity Medical Consulting, PLLC embodies the “marriage” of both experts in their respective fields. Together they are ever evolving with the focus of maximizing the health of their patients while embarking on their own personalized journey to wellness.
“Through years of professional and personal experience, we realize every patient has vastly different needs. That is why we test, we don’t guess. We are fortunate to work with highly specialized laboratories that service patients throughout the country, making the services widely available.”

The plastic surgeon that enhances looks and changes lives, specializes in facial rejuvenation and breast and body contouring. Engaged with the most important issues in plastic surgery today, Dr. Michelle Zweifler regularly attends numerous medical seminars and keeps up with the trends we see in today’s complex beauty enhancement procedures. Here we catch up with the renowned doctor about her life in New York City and what people are doing now to be bold and beautiful.
Why do you love the City of New York so much?
New York has it all, theatre, museums,
restaurants, shopping, and plastic surgery!
I like the energy in the city that doesn't sleep. New York City is diverse; people are from all over the world, I also love learning about my patient's culture. I appreciate the change of seasons and looking at Central Park with snow and leaves.
What are the advances you've seen in plastic surgery that have compelled you to adapt or change your own methods?
As a surgeon, I love operating, especially facelifts yet recently I have incorporated nonsurgical skin tightening device Sofwave for chin, neck and eyebrow lifting. Sofwave is now also approved for celluli -
te reduction. New generations of breast implants help with the aesthetic results and have enhanced safety profile. Fat grafting is frequently added to facelifts, eyelids, and breasts to give a more youthful smoother result.
What do you recommend to people to stay healthy, look good?
Exercise, drink plenty of water, sunblock. My patients that look the youngest in the 60's and 70's are active and fit. The days of sitting in the sun and over tanned skin may temporarily look and feel good but dyschromia, wrinkles and skin sagging are not glamorous.
So much disinformation on social media regarding procedures- are there any negative effects on overdoing fillers and botox?
Too many fillers may make younger patients look older and less natural. I like to start with the "less is more approach" but that being said, one syringe in general isn't going to help aging in most patients. "Baby botox" doesn't last as long as the usual re -
commended dose. All procedures have risks and benefits and you need to go to a specialist that knows facial anatomy and surgical options for the best results.
You go to so many conferences, what are the latest methods that doctors are using?
Trending on social media is lip lifts, deep plane facelift and buccal fat excision. Lip lifts are best in older patients with extra white upper lip skin, not young patients. There are lot of different definitions of "deep plane facelift" including focusing on the midface, lifting below the SMAS, lifting below the platysma with all the goals are natural results and lifting. Buccal fat excision is best for patients with truly excess bulging buccal fat for the best results.
How are people different in their approach to beauty, from New York City, which has seasonal changes, to Florida, which is a state with warm weather all year long?
New Yorkers tend to be more conservative and more natural. In Southern Florida, patients opt for larger breast implants, larger lips, and larger BBL (Brazilian Butt Lifts).
What is the worst enemy for women when it comes to looking healthy and maintaining a youthful look?
Comparing yourself to others and being unrealistic. We need to appreciate ourselves and restore our look to a more natural way, if desired. I do think you could be "too thin"; we need a little fat in our body to soften our features and not look older. For more information go to www.drmichellezweifler.com

KYLE WOOL & ANTHONY HAYES
Rule the financial world
ABOUT KYLE WOOL
What made you join Lang Lang International Foundation? A few years ago, I met Lukas Barwinski-Brown, the CEO of the foundation who introduced me to Lang Lang. Lang Lang’s energy and enthusiasm about his foundation motivated me to look into their mission and programs.
Lang Lang mentioned in the past that Bach can help us during any global crisis - what are your thoughts about this? Music heals, inspires, and make us better people. Bach is like the foundation of every kind of music. Music could not be in present form without Bach.
How have you changed the children’s’ lives? I am changing children lives almost every day by supporting and being involved in our educational Keys of Inspiration program. We strive to change the way music education is perceived in the public-school system. With Keys of Inspiration®️, we have established a replicable pathway into the world of music for grades 2-5. ABOUT ANTHONY HAYES
From a top law firm, to being at the helm of a biotech company, Anthony Hayes talks philanthropy with a hands-on approach that is unusual. His demeanorseems to be of a responsible adult who just wants to make the world better. “It all started after 9-11. When I watched the towers fall, I was devastated. Those were the towers where I used to work. I had to do something, but I could not dig through rubble. So I thought about what skills I had and realized I could use my law degree to help. My colleagues and I modified a computer program the firm had on our system to provide estate planning documents. Then we loaded that program onto laptops, borrowed a firm printer, and went to our local fire station by November
of 2001. And with that, the Wills for Heroes Program was born. Wills for Heroes (www.willsforheroes. org) provides free estate planning documents to first responders and eventually became a national nonprofit. The program operates in over a dozen states and has provided free estate planning documents to hundreds of thousands of first responders, ” recounts Hayes from his home in Virginia. The philanthropist has always been an engaged individual whose main goal is to help people. In all the mayhem of reconstructing major business deals, purchasing companies and restructuring big operations and what comes attached to these complex maneuverings, Hayes manages his time to deliver a knockout approach when it comes to help out the less fortunate. “As much of a cliché as it sounds, we should deliver help to those who need it. If it weren’t for my education and upbringing, I would not be where I am now. So I need to pay it forward and help others. Plus, the satisfaction it brings you is priceless.”

The Most BEAUTIFUL

Denise S. Fraile
How did your early years and education influence your creativity? I'm an art enthusiast with an eclectic background. I grew up in Europe and was invariably mesmerized by history, architecture and visual arts. I've had the privilege of immersing myself in diverse cultures, and developing a deep appreciation for art and design at a young age. Everything I observed shaped my eye for esthetics and composition. This became fundamental in my interpretation of the world.
My formal education has been equally fulfilling. With a BS in design, an MBA, and studies at the prestigious Ontario College of Art and Design and Harvard Extension, I've had the privilege of learning from some of the best in the field. This education has given me a well-rounded perspective on art, design, and their powerful capabilities.
What inspires your passion for art and creativity?
When I think about why I love art so much, two reasons come to mind. The first is the way it can bridge emotions and connect people beyond the visual. Art has the ability to inspire, influence, entertain, capture history, and educate. Whether it's a canvas, sculpture, or something else entirely, the ingenuity of art and creativity is limitless.
The second reason I love art is its healing properties. When I had a traumatic equestrian accident, art became my lifeline. It gave me a way to cope with the pain and trauma, and ultimately helped me through the hardest time of my life. I believe that creative outlets have the power to transform and heal, and I'm passionate about sharing this message with others.
What are your favorite mediums to use?
As an artist, I enjoy working with a variety of mediums. I particularly love creating photo-realistic pieces using chalk pastel and oil paints, but I'm always experimenting and exploring new techniques. Lately, I've been playing with the combination of photorealism and pop-art, which has been a momentous challenge fighting my urge to depict every detail perfectly. Photography is another fa-

vorite medium of mine, and I enjoy exploring different genres, from superimposed images to street photography, urbex photography, and the simple yet delightful challenge of finding interesting subject matter in random places. My biggest artistic achievement is having one of my pieces hang beside an original Andy Warhol piece. I was beyond humbled when I was told of such honor by the collector.
Going beyond the visual arts how does creativity translate throughout your life?
Beyond the arts, I'm also passionate about philanthropy. As an active board member of several charities, I strive to make a difference in building the leaders of tomorrow, abolishing human trafficking, and improving the lives of others.
I'm proud to have received recognition for my humanitarian efforts, including the "Leg Up" award and the candidate of the year honor for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Man & Woman of the Year challenge.
I was once also a Grand Prix level show jumper equestrian. I've also been published in Metropolitan magazine and recognized by IMDb. These achievements are a testament to my dedication to excellence and my passion for creativity. In summary, my love for art and creativity runs deep. It has been a defining aspect of my life, shaping the way I see the world and inspiring me to create and give back. Whether I'm working on a new piece of art, exploring a new city, or volunteering for a charity, I'm always striving to make the world a more beautiful and meaningful place. www.denisefraile.com
The charming town of ST AUGUSTINE IN FLORIDA
Photography Courtesy of the St. Augustine Tourism Company
By Rebeca Herrero
The Old is New in St. Augustine. Precious cobblestone streets pave the way to this charming, quintessential city situated on the Northeast coast of Florida. Nestled between Jacksonville and Daytona, this historical gem not only serves as home of the cute but ferocious alligators, it is also a plethora of old colonial buildings, mixed with late 1800’s era hotels, mansions and museums built by some of the most influential industrialists from the Northeast region of the nation. One of these prominent men was Henry Flagler, former partner of John D. Rockefeller in the Standard Oil Company, who in the late 1800’s built a resort known for the wealthy: “The Ponce de Leon”. Now it has been adapted as an institution of higher learning, embracing 1700 students and offering a traditional four-year arts and science degree program. The other two hotels: The Alcazar (once hosted the largest indoor pool in the world) now called “The Lightner Museum” and the “Casa Monica” which operates as a beautiful upscale hotel with Moroccan design in the center of the city.
The beautiful town of St. Augustine has charming restaurants and bars.
Perusing the window shops of the narrow streets, tourists and locals alike enjoy an array of fun “divertissement” fill with local music, upscale cuisine, fun bars, and even one of the oldest Spanish cuisine restaurants in the country: “Columbia Restaurant” located at 98 George Street. Founded in 1905, the important enterprise was conceived by a Spanish-Cuban immigrant, Casimiro Hernandez Sr. who arrived with his four young sons to Tampa, Florida. He founded the Columbia Saloon in 1903 which later became the Columbia Restaurant in 1905. Over nearly 120 years, the original restaurant expanded to an entire city block and it is the largest Spanish restaurant in the world. The one in St. Augustine is a delight and it’s one of seven restaurants in Florida. Other culinary gems are spread around the “Ancient City”. Located on the scenic Calle Cuna in Historic St. Augustine, Michael's offers a unique casually elegant dining experience with a celebrated chef, dedicated staff, and passion for exquisite flavors and worldclass wines. Michael's has received numerous honors and accolades including Wine Spectator’s mention as an Award of Excellence for their wine list. Chef Michael has also been recognized as Best Chef in the region. The truffled creamy pasta is superb, as well as the dreamy desserts we experienced.
The coastal dunes also host an ecosystem of plants and birds that is unique to the region. We enjoyed a beautiful sunset at the “Reef Restaurant”, where the breeze is felt constantly while you listen to the waves come and go. On the coast, there is Anastasia State Park with tidal marshes, maritime hammocks, and ancient sand dunes consisting of more than 1600 acres of unspoiled beaches. Here you can also find the remains of the King’s Coquina quarries. Coquina is a type of limestone composed of mollusk shells and sand. It was used in the early structures of the city including the fortress of Castillo de San Marcos.
The oldest areas of the city comprised some of the most beautiful and historical places in the New World. St. Augustine dates to 1513 when Juan Ponce de Leon touched land for the first time in what is known as the United States today. It is considered the oldest city in America.

Here, the first mass was celebrated before the English colonized Jamestown and before the Pilgrims landed in Plymouth Rock. The Castillo de San Marcos completed in the late seventeenth century, represents a bastion of Spanish history and is still standing beautifully in the city of St. Augustine.
The first Governor of the region, who founded St. Augustine in 1565, was the Spanish admiral Don Pedro Menendez de Aviles. The National Shrine of Our Lady of La Leche is a Catholic Marian shrine located at the Nombre de Dios Mission in St. Augustine and it is the oldest shrine in the United States. Following Menendez’ veneration of the Cross, thus proclaiming this land in the name of God, Father Lopez celebrated Mass at a rustic altar made of wood. The sky served as the roof for what was the first parish Mass in what is now the United States. Here is the sacred ground where Spanish settlers would begin devotion to Our Lady of La Leche. People from around the world travel to St Augustine to visit the shrine – known to heal expectant mothers and to provide miracles to women praying to conceive children.
Other relevant places to visit while vacationing at this Florida destination are: Villa Zorayda built in 1883 by Franklin W. Smith, The St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum, and the St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park. The new outdoor eatery Asado Life is a great dining experience and marketplace for locals and tourists to enjoy all year long. St. Augustine is considered one of the top destinations in the United States for people of all ages, due to its amazing dining scenery, as well as five star hotels and incredible history. Bryant is taking main roles in several movies and has an impressive career as a bodybuilder, gracing magazine covers and high fashion modeling gigs nationwide.
The up-and-coming actress from Dallas shows her beauty in New York City

M akaela BRYANT
By Rebeca Herrero
Makaela Bryant is a beautiful up-and-coming Puerto Rican actress who has set her eyes in Hollywood. She is brilliant, beautiful, and talented. Her past as a bodybuilder shaped her world to become a woman to watch in the acting industry. Her photo session in New York City was a delight, and her future films will make people look out for this stunning future star. A Q&A for her fans.
What made you get into acting?
My mother used to put me in all the plays as a child, so I guess
you can say I was trained since birth. However, I always loved the idea of storytelling and experiencing worlds outside of my own so I fell in love with acting pretty early. Angela Bassett has been a major inspiration and I always loved her fire and how she brought so much life to her characters. I wanted so much to be like her, so I honed my skills at an early age.
Describe your beginning in the industry. I began my career during COVID of all things. My first mo-
47 46 artbodegamagazine.com
vie was Manifest: The Interview, directed by Carleton King. From there, I've gone on to secure other roles as both supporting and lead, many of which are filming this year. To say my passion drives me, would be a severe understatement, I'm always on the go and usually must sacrifice personal time to get ahead, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
What are the most challenging aspects about your craft?
Being emotionally fluid, that is very hard. As an actress or visual storyteller you have to separate your emotions from your work sometimes. Therefore, if your character is happy and that day you may have gotten the "worse news ever", you still have to perform. I didn't realize it until I became an actress, that your emotions are both your biggest asset and your biggest weakness.
Tell us about yourself?
I am from a large family. My parents are Althea Wright and Anthony McCully. I also have my mother’s husband and bonus dad Eddy Wright, who plays such a large part
in my life, these are my parents. I am the third eldest of eight children and my family is very diverse. I come from humble beginnings, where I watched my mom fight for her dreams and also watch two people who were like additional grandparents to me, Fernando Rodriguez and Marisol Anita Rodriguez. They showed me what a "fulfilled life" looks like.
You’ve had an interesting career as a bodybuilder. How did that help you in your acting career? Bodybuilding has helped me standout for sure. Being an actress that's fit, and lean has brought attention to me in positive aspects that it sets me apart from other actresses.
How do you stay in shape?
I would like to say I live in the gym pretty much. I love going to the gym whether I’m happy, sad, overwhelmed or busy, I’m there all the time. I find it so comforting to be able to fall into my own world with my music and it's just me, the weights and what I’m working on. It’s truly the only thing that drowns everything out and it's so therapeutic for me
being in such a demanding-transparent career. I wake up at around 5am and I do an hour of fasted cardio, then return in the evening between cast meetings and work on my lifting regime (which is focused on training certain muscle groups based on the day).
Do you continue with the bodybuilding image or do you focus more on your acting career now?
I still train and eat like a bodybuilder, but right now my focus is on my career. I've been told not to "overdo it" which is a very real struggle for me, because I love working out. However, most of my characters are "soft" and "feminine". I have to be careful not to visually overpower my male counterparts.
How was the process of getting an agent. Grueling and still is. I am with MJI and I had to interview like everyone else. However, getting an agent is very much dependent on both visions aligning and if my brand is clean as well as desirable.
How do you prepare as an actress?
To prepare I take the advice of my good-
48
friend and partner Jean Francois-Cavelier and that's first, grab a good glass of wine and read the script. The goal is to know it, inside and out and the tone of the film. Then go into building my character and how she fits into the film or what my place may be in the plot. How does my character add to what and where the story is going. This includes scoring the script, identifying transitions and why the writer put them there to fully grasped the feel of the movie.
You are from Dallas but are here in NYC doing this great photo session. How does it feel? It feels surreal and amazing to be doing this shoot and working with Art Bodega. I understand it's a very luxurious and premier magazine so I don't take this opportunity lightly. It's so very important to me. I feel this is going to catapult my career in a very positive direction.

Walking in the busy stress of midtown near Time Square, Bryant feels the vibrancy of Broadway. “It feels amazing to be a part of this town, my agents are working hard for me to make progress in my acting career. My beauty routine is consistent and yes, sometimes grueling but I enjoy exercising and spending many hours in the gym.” She enjoys the occasional slice of pizza in New York City. “Who can avoid eating pizza while visiting here? Nothing like a slice of pizza in NYC.”

“IN THE LAND OF SILHOUETTES ”
Solo exhibition by Marcus Jansen. March 17 through April 29, 2023.
The first solo exhibition of artist Marcus Jansen’s work in China, “In the Land of Silhouettes” showcases a new series of works in the artist’s unique hybrid style, which fuses aspects of gestural abstraction and graffiti writing into dynamic and surreal narratives.
According to John Seed, writer and curator, “Jansen’s “Silhouette” paintings, which feature semi-abstract imagery suggesting social and environment turmoil, are peopled by anonymous figures that engage with ominous situations.
Confidently painted and activated by formal contrasts, the “Silhouette” series will stimulate the imaginations of its viewers and illuminate universal human struggles. These struggles, which take place in the face of chaos and the aftermath of tumultuous events are meant to capture and stimulate viewers. As Jansen explains, “The human silhouettes serve objectively and allow space to challenge emotions, intellect, and imagination of the inner self without filters.” Looking at a few key works in this series offers clues as to how the paintings and their implied narratives might be best understood.
The works presented “In the Land of the Silhouettes” offer glimpses into the fluid and uncensored imagination of one of the most exciting artists at work today. Jansen’s challenging and paradoxical silhouette paintings take us into worlds of power and possibility that transcend time and place and ask us to recognize aspects of our own experiences. His works are full of perceptions—not judgements—that offer opportunities to think freely and deeply about the forces that surround our lives and actions.”
Jansen’s solo museum exhibitions include the La Triennale di Milano Museum in Milan, Italy, Rollins Museum of Art in Orlando, Florida, the Kallmann Museum in Ismaning, Germany, and The Baker Museum at Artis-Naples in Naples, Florida. Other museum highlights include a spotlight exhibition at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, “Deconstructing Marcus Jansen.”
His permanent collections reside at The Bronx Museum of the Arts, The Baker Museum at Artis-Naples, The University of Michigan Museum of Art, Rollins Museum of Art, the Moscow Museum of Modern Art, the New Britain Museum of American Art, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art,, National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts, PERMM Museum of Contemporary Art, Housatonic Museum of Art, Foundation Calosa and the Smithsonian Institution. ww.marcusjansen.com

program is the creation of our beverage director, Jenny Castillo,” says Martins. “We could have opened up just another mescal bar with a couple of hundred different varieties, but we wanted to elevate that. And what she did was take the basic model of engineering a cocktail and transform that into an experience. Tequila and mescal are the top spirits in the world right now; their consumption has taken over brown spirits. Our bar translated cocktail artistry and the unique selections we have into the concept that we envisioned from the beginning. And we are very confident with the results.”
IXTA: NEW YORK CITY’S HOTTEST NEW MEXICAN CANTINA AND MEZCAL BAR
By Brian Aker
The elevation of Mexican cuisine has reached a pinnacle with IXTA, the new Lower east Side in Manhattan hotspot whose December grand opening drew New York City’s trendy set and foodies alike. The upscale restaurant is the brainchild of industry veteran Mike Himani with business partners Marcelo Martins and Erol West from the Hyde Hospitality Group, whose passion for creating enticing, innovative cuisine and delivering expert service make IXTA a destination for anyone with an appreciation for Mexican food beyond the standard taco truck. Its sleek bar pushes boundaries with a curated library of tequilas and mezcals for exploration, and an intriguing aphrodisiac drink with an edible scorpion.
IXTA occupies the space formerly held by the legendary DBGB Kitchen and Bar, which shuttered in 2017. Himani resurrected the IXTA name from his NOMAD restaurant of the midaughts and took over the sizeable location with a soft opening in late October generating impressive buzz and success. A few tweaks to the menu later, the Mexican offerings focus on Oaxacan dishes that are fresh and mouthwatering with the aim to build fans and word of mouth.
“There's a huge influence in Mexican cuisine from different countries marrying native flavors with those arriving with the Conquistadors,” says Martins. We wanted to draw upon all of those influences, yet with a modern flair.” Regarding the culinary specialties, Martins shares, “Chef Francisco engineered the whole menu. We have a 32-ounce tomahawk steak that comes out on a wooden board with artisanal Mexican peppers that has been a crowd favorite. It’s visually spectacular and a treat to the palette. Our stunner though is a suckling pig that needs to be reserved about 72 hours in advance. It's a whole suckling pig stuffed with the works. We prepare it carefully in-house, resulting in crunchy skin on the outside, and it is very juicy on the inside. Before we take the suckling pig to the table, we walk it around the whole dining room, we do a lap with it. You should see how people react. Suddenly everyone wants it, but it is very special to us and really does require the three-day advanced notice. It definitely plants the seed for the next visit.”
“Our mixology
Now back to the scorpion. West says, “It’s pretty cool. This is an aphrodisiac scorpion that you do with a tequila shot. We haven’t even named the drink yet, but it's pretty, and it's catching on fast. People are coming in specifically to start with that drink because they’ve heard about it on social media. We educate the guest about how to consume it, and they get to enjoy the results.”
Dessert is not to be skipped, no matter what reason. Martins explains, “The pannacotta is by far the best one I've ever eaten. it comes with candy salt on top, so there’s a little bit of a crunch in the texture, while it is served in a margarita glass for a gorgeous presentation. And the tres leches is over the top! It's a different type of design for tres leches, as usually the cake is prepared with the milk poured over it. Our chef actually puts icing over the top of the cake, and places the milk in the base, which absorbs from the bottom up; it's amazing. The donuts, I don't even wanna get started on the donuts! The donuts redefine what a donut should be.
Martins explains that the concept was underscored by the importance of making the service as strong as the menu. “We really wanted to bring back traditional hospitality; that's something that we pride ourselves in. We brought in a strong team of people that aren't part-time servers or bartenders, but really a team of professionals who do this for a living.”
“There are a lot of vegetarian options,” Martins says in closing. As vegetarian dishes have increased in demand over the years, we are able to accommodate that with a wealth of flavors. There is the delicious Ceviche Vegan, which is a must, and our salads are anything but basic; they are rich in flavor and texture as well. And then the next thing you know, there's a pig coming through the dining room.

OPENING
Visual artist and technologist Vincent Peters known as ÆTHELSTAN presented the Art is Dead exhibition featuring new works for Black History Month at Carlton Fine Arts on 5th Avenue. ÆTHELSTAN partnered with Decree349R, a non-profit organization created to counter Decree 349 in Cuba, which forbids artists from creating any type of music or art without the government’s permission, to create this new series.
Peters connected with Decree349R’s board members Elis Pacheco, Amaury Pacheco and Luis Eligio Perez, who reached out about creating this collection to help the families of the artists in prison, including Luis Manuel Otero Alcantara, one of Time Magazine’s Top 100 Most influential people in 2021 and Cuban performance artist, and Maykel Castillo, a Latin Grammy winning rapper. Both are members of the San Isidro Movement, where artists have banned together to protest against the government’s increased censorship of artistic expression in Cuba.
The collection was born out of conversations Peters had with these two imprisoned artists to showcase the magnitude of the damage Decree 349 had on the Cuban artist communi-
ty. Art is Dead features 18 acrylic and oil pastel paintings with highlights including Life & Country, The Artist, Farenheit, Libertad, Samo Samo Stewart, Pananoia and Libertad Burning. Ice-T bought the first work in this series entitled Flames and was a key figurehead in a freedom of speech saga in 1992 and now serves as a spokesperson for the movement.
The artist creates paintings with acrylics and oil sticks with two main styles of artistic expression: one being neo expression paintings made for current and in the now events and the other being hyper realistic paintings/portraits of customers and well-known individuals. 100% of the profits from Art is Dead goes to supporting artists through Decree349R.org.

CHESTER WEBER
Live Oak International is a combined
tournament of carriage driving & jumping
Live Oak International is a unique show in Ocala, Florida. Combining jumping with carriage driving, the picturesque farm that hosts the tournament has been enjoyed by locals and visitors of Ocala for 32 years. The Co-President of the event is driver Chester Weber, who has won silver medals around the world in such a beautiful sport overseen by the FEI. He shares the task with his niece, show jumper Chloe Reid.
When did you start driving horses?
I started when I was 13 years old. My family always had racehorses. As you know, a jockey must have a certain weight, they cannot pass the 110 pounds, soaking wet. I was already that weight at 13, and it looked like I was going to be 6 feet tall. I couldn’t be a jockey, so I had to find something else. My family owned the Clydesdale horses, and I was driving them with great passion, six or eight of them. I followed my passion, and then started training and competing around the US. Particularly in the Midwest, and in Toronto. Eventually we started a horse event, my parents made that decision when I was a little kid.
How long ago was this?
This event was started 32 years ago, when the local driving club came to my family and asked them to start a live event. They asked us to organize a driving marathon at this farm. Back then we had a show facility, just for Saturdays doing cross country. We then built a proper arena. Chloe (my niece) asked us, why not add jumping to the live show? She was way younger than us. My sister and I worked hard at it, and we started a FEI 2-star event. It has continued to grow. The FEI gave us the World Cup qualifier. So far, we’ve been doing it for eight years.
It is a magnificent venue. Tell us about the tradition of carriage driving?
Driving carriages have existed for a very long time, before the automobile was here, and back then people did it with a lot of style. There is something about driving four horses. Some of these families of the era, like the Rockefellers, would drive beautiful carriages with friends to go for dinner in NY, or to go shooting or hunting. The sport grew in the mid 70’s with the help of Prince Phillip, late husband of Queen Elizabeth. He was an ex-polo player but was injured playing polo. He was looking for something to do. They had the carriages around the castle,

62
and he thought, well, I can’t play polo anymore, why not start carriage driving… He became very passionate about it. Originally it was for amateurs and now people are professionals in this sport.
How has the sport grown?
It's growing in the United States. In Europe it continues to grow. For me, my next stop is Windsor in England, then France. I also compete in Germany at the biggest outdoor horse show. It is a 120-year-old competition. It would be the equivalent of getting involved at the Masters in Golf. The sport is governed by the FEI, the Federation International Equestrian. They govern six different sports, and this is one of them.
Why Florida?
I think Florida is a great place to be in the winter and here you have the ability to compete year round. Florida is really the mecca for carriage driving. It’s also practiced in Aiken, North Carolina, and in the Northeast, Virginia, in Central New Jersey at Gladstone. There are some competitions in California and Kentucky. But yes, ultimately Florida is the mecca of the sport.
Can you describe Ocala for us?
Ocala is a huge horse community. It has 1000 horse farms. Here you see horse racing, jumping, paso fino, carriage driving… so there has been a lot of growth in Ocala, of course with
the addition of the center. My family had a vision to help the tournament and currently we have riders from 20 different nations. It’s all about sport, here is not only about the competitor, but also the customer, the sponsor and ticket purchaser. It’s equally great that attendees get to enjoy a nice bag of chips with a Budweiser in hand, while others also have the opportunity to enjoy champagne and caviar. Bottom line, spectators feel comfortable in the venue.
You are the President of the venue? How do you envision the future of it?
I’ve been the co-president with my niece Chloe, we do it together, it is a family affair. The tournament continues to be a place not only for the top sport, but for people to come and enjoy it, socialize. People want to watch it, and you don’t have to be involved with horses.
You’ve lived for a while in Ocala, but give us a bit of information about your background?
I moved here after graduating from Cornell, went to boarding school in New Jersey, I felt there were limitations living in Upstate New York, my bones were “cold”. Reason why I left upstate New York. Ocala wasn’t like what you see today, it was a bit more rural, more land. But the county and the people in Ocala realize the green spaces, and the culture needs to remain about the horses. Beautiful live oak trees, and the rolling hills surprises people. Ocala is not much about palm trees, but about oak
trees. From an economic standpoint, the Economic Development Council have been very good at it and have also made it a transportation hub.
What’s next for you?
I will continue traveling to Europe. There’s nothing better than seeing these four animals working together, and the small details, how the reins help guide the horses to work together, to produce poetry in motion.
How was meeting Queen Elizabeth?
I met her a few times; her husband was an advent carriage driver. It humbles me to have lived those experiences. She always made you feel great. She always knew the right energy to make you feel comfortable.
She bought horses in Kentucky……
A lot of them for her racing program. They are bred in Kentucky. America is a huge country, with wonderful horses that come from all the Americas. The beauty of any equestrian sport competition is that you see people of all ages, competing at the same level. Here you can see people competing in their 20’s next to a rider in their 60’s.
You have achieved everything you wanted?
What else are you aiming for?
To become the world champion. I have silver medals individually but would love to earn my gold medals as well. I have two beautiful children, 8 and 5 years old. I feel very blessed.

Palm Beach- The serenity of the beaches has always enthralled Kat Fuqua and her mother Shereen. Their love for Palm Beach stems from their travels to the Equestrian Capital of the World, Wellington, just a short trip west of the Eastern coast. Palm Beach is known for its paradisiacal streets, colonial architecture and perfectly manicured landscape surrounding palatial estates. But with all the elaborate atmosphere it represents, Palm Beach is still a small enclave of beauty and serene camaraderie amongst its residents and visitors. Worth Avenue, synonymous with glamour and luxury, was the backdrop for this very special photo session with photographer Sheri Mazariegos.

KAT FUQUA More than a CHAMPION Equestrian
Kat Fuqua, a humble 15 year old from Atlanta with a quiet demeanor, competes her 10th year at Wellington International’s Winter Equestrian Festival. During 2013 at age 6, Kat was hand picked by a top pony judge and trainer to teach her how to jump. Shereen & Jeff Fuqua, former Title Sponsor of USEF Collecting Gaits Farm National Dressage Championships and Olympic Trials, put their daughter on Buttercup, a miniature horse at her 1st birthday.
For 10 years Kat travels weekly during season to attend regular school Holy Innocence in Atlanta and then compete with the best hunter/ jumper trainers. Since age 7 Kat excels in the horse sport competing in over 300 shows. Setting records for multiple wins Kat is recognized as best in class. But not just in the Hunter discipline, Kat excels in Pony Hunters, JR Hunters, Jumpers, Equitation & Dressage.
This year she is qualified for the FEI Dressage Young Rider European Tour & competes in 1.40-45m Jumpers. Kat has more titles than one can count, earning over 40 Grand Champion & Champion Hunter Titles, 2 Hall of Fame titles, top placings in Equitation, Champion in JR Dressage among others.
Kat has been on a 20 year plan to compete at the Olympics, having met so many Olympians through her parents at their farm. She wants to be the best in at least 2 equestrian sports in hopes she can attract top couture fashion houses by her work ethic and accomplishments. Kat loves fashion. It gives her a balance from just horses. Kat shares her aspirations and goals while enjoying the fashion shoot on Worth Avenue.
What are your dreams & aspirations as a person, not necessarily in horses?
KAT: My goal is to achieve and attain the things that I set my mind to. I want to excel in both academics and get into college. I want to go to the Olympics. Being in Wellington for the season, I make connections for business for the future. What our some of your business activities you have done since you were 6 yrs old?
KAT: I designed a bow with Pony Tail Bows. It is blue because my first trainer who was a judge Mindy Darst said to always wear blue. Before she passed away of cancer, she gave me a t-shirt that says “Refuse to Lose”.
As one of the first very young riders to have sponsors, what did that teach you?
KAT: Pony Tail Bows was my first sponsor and it really taught me how to communicate with people and how to build a relationships. Then Filli Fabbri believed in me and sponsored me with my first tall boots. I was still in the pony ring at age 9. It showed me that hard work makes people notice you. For 7 years Fabbri still supplies me with the fine Italian boots, and included me in their corporate brochure in Italy a couple of years ago.
Talk about your experience being in a movie? (Played herself as pony champion in The Movie: Billy & Blaze, a children’s set of books from the 1930s. Still in post production.)
KAT: Being in the movie was my first time ever doing anything with film. It was really exciting and I learned a lot about acting and where you should look at the camera and timing for lines and things like that. It was really educational. I met a lot of people that also ride horses. It was fun. I was 11.
What about your experience with magazines?
KAT: I have done a lot of photo shoots. I do like the photo shoots especially when they are with

my horses and I get to wear non horse clothes. I like to dress up. My horses are my favorite thing. I also do a column with Elite Equestrian going on 3 years called Kat’s Korner bi monthly. It teaches me a lot and helps me in school because I have to write it and make it sound nice. It is really good for my English & Yearbook classes. Where do you think that all of these extracurricular activities outside of school and horses will take you in your future?
KAT: I think it gives the vision of me to be communicative and be a responsible person. Also, since I miss so much school competing, I think this helps to get into college, all the extra curricular activities I do.
What do you learn the most in the horse world that can help you as a business person?
KAT: You got to go with the flow a lot. You have to deal with unexpected things and change all the time, and let it just roll of your back. And not freak out about it. You got to shoot in Manhattan with Patrice Casanova, a famous french fashion photographer. What was that like?
KAT: That was my first modeling experience when I was 9 years old. I was intimidated at first. But Patrice is a really nice person. He gave me confiden-
ce modeling. It was a lot of fun and the pictures came out amazing. He taught me about poses and to look good for the camera.
Did you recently meet a famous actor? And what advice did he give you?
KAT: Robert Patrick. I met him in the hotel lobby in Lexington, KY. I was shy to talk to him. He told me which direction he would film my face from because that’s how my eye follows the camera. The left side. It was cool to meet him. He was not scary to talk to or arrogant or anything. You would not even know he was so famous. And he grew up in Atlanta. He is very encouraging about staying focused and working hard. I think it’s nice he follows me on instagram!!
We know that your mother encourages you to be a role model from the beginning of your pony days? What does that mean for you?
KAT: I like to influence people to believe in themselves, even when it gets hard.
Has it been hard for you?
KAT: At times, yes. I struggle a little bit in school and with riding. You go through rough phases but you just got to keep pushing through.

Germans Lars Ligus & Frederic Wandres TAKE WELLINGTON DRESSAGE SCENE QUIETLY
By Equestrian Editor, Shereen Fuqua
Our 10 years for my daughter Kat to compete at the Winter Equestrian Festival, this year is different. Global Equestrian Group led by Danish Olympian Andreas Helgstrand, operator of a successful horse sales business and Ludger Beerbaum, 4 time Olympic Gold Medalist German Show Jumper are new owners of WEF & Global Dressage, now Wellington International. The American industry can rejoice for best in class competition bringing in more top international judges, olympians and riders. These power house equestrians con-
tinue to import the European horses for the HOT American market, making it easier then ever to try the horses on our own soil.
Not to miss a beat, the popular German KASSELMAN Family purchased their own sales/ training yard here. The world famous horse auction house, Performance Sales International was founded in1980 in the USA in partnership with Germans expert dressage Grand Prix Trainer Ullrich Kasselmann & Olympic Show Jumper Paul Schockemohle. The plan
was to bring the Americans to the largest breeding areas in Europe to sell dressage and jumper prospects. And their vision excels now 40 years. Today there may be a bigger market for trained horses. CEO Francois Kasselman, son of retired Ulli, now leads the family business and auction.
Back to Kat, we quietly were seeking top trained Dressage Grand Prix horses with little luck. With high expectations, and 20 years of contacts, we didn’t expect difficulty. We know
Helgstrand’s Dr. Ulf Moller for years. We purchased several Kasselman horses over 17years. Months of looking we found a top horse by another international trainer, whom we also purchased from in 2006. But his steep price, $1.2 million, scared us that Kat would not be able to learn the Grand Prix Dressage at a very competitive level. I reached out to Francois. Luckily he coordinated a trial with his managing Trainer & Rider Frederic Wandres who leads Kasselman USA. Not only is his fine horse Rigoletto a match for Kat, the price was fair. How fortunate that 10 yo Rigoletto can stay in training with Freddie’s partner Lars Ligus, another top German Kasselman rider/trainer. A perfect scenario to train Kat as well.
“Freddie” Wandres 3rd season at Global Dressage, he markets, shows and wins. He’s ranked 10th in the world. He led the German Team to win three straight years for the Nation’s Cup. When you meet him, he is just a regular guy very nice and at times funny. He never talks about winning, is quite humble with his experience and life in horses, and is polite and
respectful. Yet there is so much seriousness in his eye. You know that he will be an Olympian one day. I am impressed seeing him sweep and doing farm chores like everyone at their barn.
There is a young lady there, alert and working the horses, bathing or lunging or feeding or whatever it takes to care for the loved show horses. Kat walks in and offers to please let her do the grooming of her new horse. With the always quick response “are you sure?” she says to Kat. Turns out she is German champion Anna-Christina Abbelen, winning the Nation’s cup with teammate Freddie, and the Champion of the Palm Beach Derby. Lars Ligus, the most American-like of the German super stars is full of spunk & spirit, eager to see the world and explore America. He is funny, kind and hard working. He is proud to train Rigoletto and now train the girl who got him. The demeanor of all is special and honest feeling.
I caught up with Francois asking … “Why do you want to be in the US, Wellington?”
“We want to develop good relations and build
up good communication with new people and with our existing clients. We want to speak honestly with our customers to make trust. It is very important to be honest in the ring. We train like we train in Europe …come on, not everything is nice. We try to make it better in a friendly but hard way. If you want to have success in any sport, there has to be a push or kick in the pants…if you know what I mean. We come only for the winter. We will like to make new friendships. We have 280 trained horses in Germany. So it is easy to match a suitable horse, if we know how the customer rides. We have 5 of the top 50 riders in the world! We have relationships of over 40 years. But we don’t just sell horses, we help and train. Your daughter is going to be a top talent. It is nice to see she does hunters, equitation and jumpers…this is important for the balance!”
Graciously Kat responds , “I’m obsessed training with the Germans. The opportunity is a dream. Lars & Freddie are regular guys but push me so I can be my best!”

Sandra Fiorenza
Photography by Sheri Mazariegos
Philanthropist, equestrian rider, and businesswoman Sandra Fiorenza is on top of the world. During the photo session at her ranch in Wellington, the perfectly manicured landscape surrounded by beautiful horses served as the perfect backdrop for a sunny day in the Equestrian Capital of the World, Wellington. Fiorenza is a successful realtor that joined Douglas Elliman after a 12-year tenure at One Sotheby’s.
“I was born and raised in Germany and found my passion for equestrianism at a young age. From the age of 8 I was already riding horses and in my teenage years I started competing. Eventually my life would change and I stopped riding,” explained Fiorenza who at the age of 16 visited the United States during an exchange program. In America, Fiorenza found her forever home. Once she finished her studies in the University of Dusseldorf, she opened a business focusing in fashion and television. She moved to Florida in 1998 and two years later married impresario Randy Fiorenza. “Our family welcomed twin girls, Camilla and Caprina in 2003 and in 2006, we welcomed Lola.” Sandra’s career in luxury real estate is as remarkable as her success. Her start in real estate came with the position with the famed Related Company and became their top sales executive on Miami Beach on development projects such as Yacht Club, Murano, and Murano Grande.
Her life in Fisher Island is also impressive. At the beginning of her life in the United States and after moving to Miami, Fiorenza sold exclusive listings in the most expensive zip code of the United States, and at some point, called Fisher Island home. After moving into the Gables Estate with her family, Fiorenza moved back to Fisher Island in 2021, where she has already transacted in over $54,000,000 on the Island.
Sandra lives and breathes her creations whether in luxury real estate, lifestyle branding, or philanthropy. She is a fashion icon, and also a seasoned equestrian. Sandra’s magic ingredient is that she lives the lifestyle she sells in the one-of-akind spaces she seeks for her clients. With $530 million in total career sales and $30 million just in 2022, she is one of Miami’s highest-grossing residential agents, a testament to her thoughtful and personalized approach to providing her clients insights into the market.

“Antarctica” is the seventh continent on our planet, comparable in size to the United States with a wintertime population of around 1,000 surrounded by the Southern Ocean and typically accessed by sea from the tip of South America. Unlike the Arctic Circle in the North which can be accessed by air directly, Antarctica is treaty regulated by international law and is kept as pristine as possible to enable scientific research. The fact that the South Pole was discovered barely a century ago adds to the mystery of the continent of wind, ice and snow.
Visiting Antarctica is typically done during the Spring and Summer seasons (November onwards) as a Winter visit would be too harsh, not to mention dangerous. Silversea latest expedition ship, the all-new purpose built Silver Endeavour with an Antarctica air-bridge from South America into King George Island – about half a day’s sailing from the Antarctic Peninsula – the most accessible region of the continent in Spring and Summer time. Just arriving at the Silver Endeavour is an expedition in itself and a presage of the excitement to follow.
Antarctica is fantastic. What distinguishes it perhaps is not just how wild and remote it feels – for example there is absolutely no sound or smell
other than the wind and occasionally the penguins.
The varieties of Penguins could well be the highlight of anyone’s visit – the Gentoo, Chinstrap and Adele are amazing to watch. Whilst the ship is compact, do not think for one moment it is not luxurious. The focal point of the ship’s entertainment is the nightly briefing where the expedition team provides a brief on the day and what lies potentially ahead as well as lectures from experts in the fields of oceanography, ornithology and history to contextualize what you have seen and will see in the coming days.

Talks charities in Palm Beach
Photography by Sheri Mazariegos
Nina Christine has been spending her winters in the Palm Beach area since early childhood. "Palm Beach will always hold a special place in my heart" she said. Nina is an active and generous supporter of several notable New York and Palm Beach charities. She proudly continues her philanthropic endeavors by donating her exclusively niche " Karma Love" Perfume which has graced so many silent auction tables over the years.
"I've always had a passionate love for flowers and perfume," mentioned the Palm Beach resident. The perfume was inspired by the enchanting rose notes that caressed her senses while summering in the South of France and Puglia. Having served on the benefit committees of numerous charities over the years she wanted to find a significant and personal way to contribute other than monetarily.
The Princess Grace Foundation,The Scottish Trust, Big Dog Ranch Rescue, Il Circolo, Just World International, NIAF, NJ State Opera, Garden State Ballet are just a few of the numerous charities her lovely French "Eau de Parfum" has been showcased.
"I attended my very first Gala at ten years old for the opera and was seated alongside the lovely Brooke Shields." The magical evening left such a positive impression on young Nina that it set the precedent for her lifelong love of supporting and dressing for those occasions.
"Palm Beach has the most extraordinary boutiques and pop ups so you can always find unique one-of-a-kind gowns."
"MDVII is one of my favorite brands. She's a master at curating vintage Haute Couture jewelry." Nina is truly a remarkable young lady who has a genuine interest in giving back and supporting others. Her creative philanthropic efforts, infectious personality, and pure heart leaves such a positive impression on all who meet her.

MIKAIL AKAR
Brings UnbelievableArt Exhibition to New York City
Young artist Mikail Akar is making waves in the art world at the tender age of just 10 years old. The tween creator already is a bona fide painter with works found worldwide and showcasing in numerous exhibitions around the globe. Mikail’s art exhibition “UNBELIEVABLE” will be on display at the Modus10 – Rolf Benz Flagship Store in SoHo from March 31st – May 31st, 2023.
Mikail's paintings are collected internationally among art collectors and celebrities alike. Already making a significant mark on the international press circuit he has appeared on Fox News, BBC News, New York Post, ProSieben and RTL.
Born in 2012 in Cologne, his career began relatively carefree. For his fourth birthday his parents gave him a small canvas and finger paints simply because they didn't want to buy Legos or toy cars again. Mikail began his prolific artistic journey at this exact moment, and paints today at his Studio in Cologne, Germany.
Mikail has already created several exhibitions in many cities in Germany: Cologne, Dusseldorf, Berlin, Hamburg and Munich, where international art collectors soon became aware of the young artist. This led to other shows in Vienna, Zurich, Istanbul, and New York City.
Since last year’s solo exhibition at The Highline Gallery in New York City in April 2022, Mikail’s art has been presented at further art exhibitions including;
• The Munich Art Fair, ArtMuc, Germany (May 2022)
• ArtArchCologne Exhibit, Germany (December 2022)
• Ernst Fuchs Museum, Vienna, Austria (December 2022)
• Grand Hotel Schloss Bensberg Exhibit, Germany (February 2023 – May 2023)
Forthcoming Exhibitions in New York City include:
• Solo Exhibition at Modus10 - Rolf Benz Flagship Store, SoHo (March, 31 – May, 31 2023)
• ArtExpo New York Fine Art Fair – Booth S404, Pier 36 (March 30, – April 2, 2023)
The young artist also has a philanthropic side and has gained notable attention with his work being auctioned for good causes such as the “Art Helps to Give” campaign. One of his most recent collaborations has been with the mineral water brand, Gerolsteiner with the Mikail Akar Artist Edition, where Mikail’s art was printed on over 17 million water bottles. Despite his adventures as a creative artist, Mikail has remained a normal child, going to school in Cologne and is fully supported by his parents and two siblings.
