Jewels & Nature A letter from the Editor

Back in December, I was able to go to Palm Beach for work. As I visited The Flagler museum, I walked near the waterway that borders the island and saw how beautiful the landscape was. To think that our leaders like Henry Flagler had a vision of how beautiful Florida is, made me realize I needed to honor nature and our jewels, be it trees, flowers, trail ways, horses, the people who love them and fight for preservation. It was natural for me to connect my love for gems, hence the jewels and the artisans who make them, and the landscape of Florida. What a better woman than philanthropist Jean Shafiroff who lives between New York and Palm Beach. Her contributions to our society have really evolved our charities making her one of the top figures in this role internationally. Shafiroff looks delightful in these photographs, with floral patterned dresses, she merges with the perfect landscape of Palm Beach. Sunny, pretty and ready for the Spring! We also included some incredible jewels, like the Magnificent Jewels from Christie’s. Pieces that only one can imagine royalty and society ladies wearing in the past few decades. Also new jewelers like Annie James, other brands like Velanti, and the great cause for the Museum of Art and Design, the annual exhibit called Loot, showcasing jewelers to raise funds for the Institution. Another dear Museum of ours is El Museo del Barrio. As always, the Chair of the Board Maria Eugenia Maury and the Honorary Chairman Tony Bechara will host the next Gala in Manhattan, May 2nd.

REBECA HERRERO

Another gem that is more soul and pure art is Omar Hernandez. When a visionary like Flagler saw the potential of South Florida and built Miami and Palm Beach, other people who are the next generation entertain the tastemakers with an aura of seduction and glamour. This is Omar at Vaucluse in the Upper East Side. In this issue we honor Omar Hernandez as we prepare our release party at Omar’s with Jean and the host. Our new society correspondent is Esther Herrero. She has worked for many years at Hola! Magazine and now writes for Art Bodega about her travels with the elite of Acapulco and other countries. In her article, we read about the events that took place in beautiful Acapulco, Mexico. Another great event will be with Mexican Designer Raquel Orozco, brought to Miami by Adira Consulting President Eva Hughes, the party will take place at Villa Positano, organized with Ernst Swietelsky, owner of the beautiful property at 3080 Munroe Drive in Coconut Grove. The house is for sale, and we want everyone to come and see it and enjoy a delightful brunch. As Flagler may have been proud of all these wonderful individuals who from New York to South Florida, make the East Coast of the US more beautiful and relevant than ever.

Angelo and his team of experts often work with those who are experiencing thinning hair or hair loss. His clients include cancer survivors and those undergoing chemotherapy, as well as clients experiencing hair loss due to other causes, including genetics, pregnancy, medical issues, stress, unhealthy lifestyles or mechanical hair stress caused by styling/pulling the hair too tight. By offering personalized, in-depth consultations, Angelo and his team aim to conceal, inhibit—or when possible—reverse hair loss, regardless of the reason. Notes Angelo, “Whatever stage of hair loss a client is experiencing, we focus on three things: prevent, correct and maintain.” Angelo created his own line of hairbrushes made specifically for use on hair extensions, hair additions and hairpieces. They use the ideal balance of naturally conditioning boar bristles and gently separating nylon bristles to promote healthier hair and stimulate the scalp. Continuing his focus on maintaining a full head of healthy hair, Angelo most recently created Hair Detox supplements for the detoxification and restoration of healthy hair, skin and nails. The nutrients, amino acids and natural herbs in Hair Detox were specifically selected for their traditional and scientifically supported ability to help inhibit hair loss and promote a healthy hormonal balance. They can even help you maintain the hair you have. Additionally, Angelo along with Jacob Guttman, founder and CEO of Creative Pro Hair Tools, recently introduced The Flex Brush™, designed for both wet and dry hair, bends to follow the contours of your head, massaging your scalp and stimulating the production of natural oils. The brush has vents that allow heat to pass through it, so blow drying won’t damage the brush.

For the more technically inclined the tests look at 20 bloodbased biomolecules. These include the stress hormone cortisol, the appetite-suppressing hormone leptin as well as the hunger hormone ghrelin. This test also looks at other hormones including IGF-1, DHEA Sulfate, Follicle Stimulating Hormone, Testosterone and Estradiol. Plus, it analyzes fat soluble vitamins... water soluble vitamins... minerals... sex hormone-binding globulin... and the hemoglobin A1C blood sugar test.

ADAM B. FEDER IS AN ATTORNEY THAT WON’T STOP AT ANYTHING

BY REBECA HERRERO NEW YORK CITY Adam B. Feder Esq. has been in practice since 1996. The law has always filled his life with memories that overflow with nostalgia of an era where people did care what happened to others. “My dad was a trial lawyer, and since I was 7 years old, I went to the Court with him. He was a knight in shining armor, fighting for people who could not fight for themselves. When I saw his passion to represent others, it inspired me to become a lawyer with the fire and truth to fight for those in need,” said Feder who hails from Long Island but adores the entire city of New York. Personal injury law is a large part of his practice. “We fight for our client’s rights against corporate self interest. We also do criminal defense, immigration, and civil rights (when the police falsely arrest and injure people). It’s interesting to see how many cases can turn to be something completely opposite of what people perceive. This is the difference with us, my law partner Vladimir J. Rodney, Esq., since 2001 and myself can assimilate the facts and find an angle that will give some hope to cases that you think have no hope.” Feder, who has two daughters, 13-year old Sivan and 17-year old Mia, considers himself a true believer in the power of courage and character. “When I’ve gone sailing with my daughters, I let them make mistakes and learn from it. It builds character. When you see a case that defines a reality and you feel it can be won, we truly pursue it, not just at the level of making a motion, but beyond that. We are trial lawyers, we like to get to a verdict instead of a soft settlement. If you think about it, any final decisions will impact your life- and a quick decision might end up derailing your life not in the best way,” explained the attorney whose office is established in Brooklyn. “I do like the jurors in Brooklyn and everywhere. We practice in all Five boroughs of the City of New York, Westchester, and Long Island. We love New York and what it stands for. It’s a convoluted place with so many corners, and people try to cut many corners, but not us. That’s not how we practice. But at the end it is the fire and the passion that you have inherited in your heart what truly wins.”

WE REPRESENT PEOPLE, NOT CORPORATIONS

As Feder recalls one time an incident that almost changed the life of one of his clients, he explains in detail the reality of serving for what he values the most, helping others. “My client was a pizza delivery guy. He was called to deliver a pizza late at night on a dangerous block in Brownsville, Brooklyn. When he pulled to curb, the customer that ordered the

pizza, approached his vehicle and refused to show identification to match the credit card used to order the food (protocol from his corporate employer). The customer cursed and threatened him and tried to grab the pizza by force. He was scared as he had been robbed many times in the past in the same neighborhood and thought he was being distracted by the customer and would soon feel a gun against his head.” “My client accelerated the car and the woman that ordered the pizza fell on the street. Her boyfriend, who was waiting nearby with another male, refused to answer questions by the responding police officer, and quickly walked away from the scene. As my client escaped in fear for his life, the police were called. My client couldn’t remain at the scene as he reasonably thought he would be killed. Minutes later, he called his employer and spoke with a police officer who told him not to go to the pizza shop as an angry crowd was there waiting for him. He then went immediately to the police station and waited for the officer he spoke with. He ended being arrested and prosecuted for 13 felonies and one misdemeanor. Something very extreme for someone that was acting in self-defense. We decided to proceed to trial after the District Attorney’s Office offered him a plea deal with three years incarceration in State Prison. We said absolutely no. So we went to trial, and the Jury rendered a verdict of not guilty by justification to all of the charges. This 58-year old man was saved by our law practice, we believe in justice and justice must be served.” “Most of the time, insurance companies refuse to pay a reasonable settlement, especially when it has to do with personal injury. We go to war with billion dollar companies that hire huge law firms, and just the feeling of being able to go to Court and fight in front of a Jury and obtain justice for our clients is something that we strive for. Our clients only have one chance at justice. They have our personal cell phones, it is a relationship, but the right people have to do it. We are not afraid to take a verdict.” The father of two beautiful girls and a passionate lawyer likes to visit the gym six days a week. “I do like to be active. It has changed my life and it releases any stress. I lift weights and do cardio in the mornings. I also love to walk around the city that never sleeps, sail the North Atlantic, off New York and Long Island. It’s the best city in the world. We love to serve the people.“ Photography by Abby Ballin @aballinphoto

She has been featured on the Food Network, Meet Bobby Flay and The Today Show, and Real Housewives of New York among many others. On Tuesday, April 16th 2019, she’ll be returning to her musical roots where she will be performing exclusively at The Laurie Beechman Theatre (407 West 42nd Street, New York City). Pamela toured the country starring in industrial shows written and directed as mini musicals, as well as appeared in national television commercials for Guess Jeans and Dr. Pepper. During that time, Pamela simultaneously began honing her cooking and catering chops at the New York Restaurant School. Her first business, Flavors Catering and Carry-Out, quickly became a neighborhood staple on West 18th Street in Manhattan’s Flatiron district. Counting Martha Stewart Living, HBO, Harry Winston, and Chanel as among some of her regular clientele, it was one of the very first places in NYC to have an organic salad bar.

A unique concept with thoughtful and impeccable execution, the Rallye Aïcha des Gazelles du Maroc is the first international off-road rally race of its kind exclusively for women. Since 1990, it has brought together women between the ages of 18 and 71 from more than 13 different countries, who have embarked on an adventure of a lifetime from Nice in the South of France and through a nine-day rally competition in the Moroccan desert. ACAPULCO,

A Paradise in the Pacific BY ESTHER HERRERO

Rullan Asia Bistro event

A

capulco shines under the sun of the Pacific, and after a sunset that is always magical and different, it seems to observe, from the mountains of Sierra Madre, with a thousand lit eyes, the sea that appears black in the darkness of the night.

The last time I went there I stayed with my friend Pati Molina who besides being a great friend of her friends is the perfect hostess. She doesn’t miss anything and my stay, apart from fun, was a restful gourmet spa! Thank you Pati!

The bay of Acapulco was discovered by Hernan Cortés who sent Juan Rodriguez Villafuente in search of a strait to arrive in the Islands of Spices. In that same place, Zacatúla, the first shipyards of America were built, and also in that same location the Marquis of Valle de Oaxaca, Hernan Cortés, established himself, between the Points of Diamond and Brujas and it is also from there that the expedition under his command left in conquering of the Philippines.

Many things take place during the season in Acapulco. While I was there, Los Amigos de Acapulco celebrated their annual cocktail and dinner for the Acapulco Philharmonic Orchestra. Susana Palazuelos and the Red Cross Committee of Acapulco had their Gala celebration to buy more ambulances for this city and the area. Lupita Molina had her annual Pozole in Las Brisas Club, it was a great success and the funds raised went, as always, to El Vergel of Los Hermanos del Anciano.

After that and for 250 years the Galeón of Manila or Nao of China took Asian products to the port of Acapulco where, since then, one of the most critical Fairs in the world took place. Today Acapulco has developed into an essential tourist destination and offers those who visit an oasis of incredible beauty where they can enjoy a tropical life.

Tony Rullán gave a birthday party to his wife, Linda, in his restaurant Tony’s Asian Bistro and Zibu, Lalo Palazuelo’s restaurant…..there were many gastronomic evenings for us to enjoy. Who can forget the many more events that take place in this romantic bay, among them The Festival of Fish and Shellfish that Pedro Hace organizes every May at the Hotel El Cano in the Bay of Acapulco and many more events to always consider attending.

Tourists always come back, and what a pleasure it is still to return to Acapulco, to enjoy the sun, the sea, the unbelievable sunsets, the gastronomy and the people who are very welcoming and who become your friends.

Oftentimes one has to return, and there is always a reason to visit again and again Acapulco!

“MESHED marks our first foray back into furniture since the brand’s birth. As with our other product ranges, we wanted to take very ordinary furniture types – the coffee table, side table and planter – and try and reinvent how people view them. Using perforated metal mesh, we have created a range of furniture that is both transparent and not. MESHED creates an elegant filter for your floors and walls and allows a space to feel a lot larger. The range is also modular allowing customers to create much larger and exciting arrangements” - Massimo Buster Minale, founder of Buster + Punch.

Yury Lobo Artist Yuri Slobodenyuk, known as “Yury Lobo”, is an internationally acclaimed UkranianAmerican contemporary visual artist. Yury Lobo is known for his breadth of abstract work, pop-art, collage, ready mades, cartoons and portraits. Throughout his artistic career he has produced a significant quantity of works, which are represented in various private collections throughout the world. His art follows the example of Picasso in undermining the concept of the artist’s obligation to maintain a single cohesive style. However, Yury considers himself first and foremost an ‘abstract expressionist,’ and this stems from a pivotal moment from his childhood: in July 1959, Yury and his mother happened upon the First American National Exhibition in Moscow, which featured Jackson Pollock’s masterpiece, “Cathedral”. The young boy who grew up behind the iron curtain was both amazed and shocked by such an abstract painting. Of course, at the only 11 years old in Communist Russia, Yury knew little about Modern Art or Jackson Pollock, but the impact of the piece was imprinted in his subconscious and this moment would significantly change and determine the trajectory of his life forever. Later in his professional life, his interests were centered on artists of the Avant-garde. He claims his favorite artists are (just to name a few): Van Gogh, Chagall, Kandinsky, Malevich, Duchamp, Picasso, Matisse, Miro, Brague, Klee, Warhol, Rothko, Richter, and, of course, Pollock. Yury has said, “These artists give me the creative impulse just to open up and paint ‘from the hip’ trusting only my own inner instincts, pouring my bursting energy in bold colors on the canvas.” Yury Lobo was born in Germany but was raised in Russia and Ukraine. He now lives in Florida. For more information contact: 305-989-6230

Markowski Tell me about your background? I was born and raised in Brooklyn. My parents came to America in the 90’s and had me. My first language was Polish even though I was born in America. I learned how to speak English when I started elementary school. I grew up in a very insular community in Greenpoint where 90% of the neighborhood was Polish.

For being a role model to the girls that are starting on this social mediumwhat do you suggest them to do? Who chooses your wardrobe, do you do it by yourself or with a team? I think the most important thing is to stay true to YOU. Your taste, your style, your voice, your opinion. I think many of us what to be others on social media because we are always comparing ourselves. I think staying unique to you will go a long way. What did you think of Omar’s at Vanclause? Ugh, what is there not to love?! It is beautiful. It was truly such an honor to shoot in the restaurant. The ambiance was so elegant and romantic. Definitely a must-try!

Aptekman The Russian Armenian beauty is a 1st generation American. When the Soviet Union collapsed, both parents emigrated and met in the port of Boston, MA. “As I was growing up in a small apartment in the back of an auto body garage in Littleton, MA called ‘Auto Surgeons, my father was working there as a mechanic while my mother helped with the accounting, cradling my brother in one arm, and breast feeding me in the other. My father was a brilliant engineer and innovator—a budding entrepreneur—for he had fled a country that had massive automotive deficiencies and now entered a country that had the resources to strengthen the industry. My father started to build his automotive aftermarket company from that auto body shop, slowly but surely filing patents, blending chemicals, mind you in a totally foreign language. My parents were not proficient in English and therefore my first language was Russian. “Growing up in Boston, I quickly became an over achiever, an academic, and a go-getter. In 2016, I was the youngest female to attain her master’s degree from The F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business.”

You told me you are a poet; can you expand on this. Did you know you had that talent? Yes, I am a millennial girl with a passion for an antiquated craft! As a young girl, I always turned to writing and journaling to cope with the ups and downs of life. First manuscript “Daytime Fantasies with Night Vision,” writing on a vintage 1954 Royal Quiet Deluxe Typewriter, which was Ernest Hemingway’s

typewriter of choice. Thereafter, I began to collect vintage typewriters and write prose over photographs and postcards I personally take and archive from all over the world. What are your favorite spots in NYC and why? TOKYO RECORD BAR. This charismatic gem is located in the cellar of a champagne bar. With only about 15 seats, there is a sense of understated exclusivity. It is $50 a person for an eclectic Omakase dinner. But the best part… the Vinyls (I have a personal collection of Vinyls, myself). You mentioned you started some activism with Federico. Can you tell me more about it and what it entails? After personally experiencing and seeing a lot of financial duress in the modeling industry at large, I hosted a symposium at my apartment, a forum where girls could voice their concern regarding professionalism in the industry. In light of the #MeToo movement, I collaborated with Federico Pignatelli of The Industry Model Management and Pier59 Studios to create the Model’s Bill of Rights Movement which sets specific standards and guidelines to mitigate financial duress, protect models’ fundamental rights, ensures safe working conditions, and promotes education for models to understand the legalese in contracts.

“We should always treat one another with courtesy and respect,” says New York City-based philanthropist and author Jean Shafiroff. “No matter where we stand politically, we must treat each other with dignity.” Interested in building others up, she believes bad manners have no place in everyday life or on social media. When she wrote the book, Successful Philanthropy: How to Make a Life By What You Give, Shafiroff produced an inspirational and practical guide to giving. Her book helps readers identify their passions to effect change and understand how they might get involved in the world of philanthropy. “Everyone can give back something to society,” says Shafiroff. “

"Giving our time as volunteers and making financial gifts can truly impact those in need.” Shafiroff leads by example. She first learned about the power of benevolence from her father, a music teacher, and her mother, an artist. Attending Catholic school for 12 years reinforced those early lessons on charity and kindness (though she adds that all world religions teach the importance of giving back to society). Sharifoff graduated from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy before working at St. Luke’s Hospital in New York City. She then returned to Columbia and earned her MBA in Finance. She worked on Wall Street

Dresses by Dolce and Gabbana, Jill Stuart, Dolce and Gabbana in public finance and private partnerships. “Working at a hospital exposed me to a lot of human suffering,” says Shafiroff. “My education and time on Wall Street taught me valuable lessons about business, which has greatly helped with my volunteer work in the non-profit world.” While in graduate school, Jean met her husband Martin, the father of her two daughters. As a young mother, she became involved with her children’s school, as well as a few charity boards related to her interests. As her daughters grew older, she found more time to devote herself to philanthropy. Shafiroff is especially dedicated to causes related to women’s rights, healthcare, animal welfare, and underserved populations. Today she serves as a leader, volunteer fundraiser, and donor for multiple non-profit organizations in New York City, Southampton, and around the world. The New York Women’s Foundation, French Heritage Society, the NYC Mission Society, the Stony Brook Southampton Hospital Foundation, the United Negro College Fund, The Couture Council, Southampton Bath & Tennis Club’s Charitable Foundation, and the Southampton Animal Shelter are just a smattering of the many organizations that receive her time and attention. She is also deeply committed to Global Strays, a charity co-founded by herdaughter Elizabeth Shafiroff. Though Shafiroff has won many honors, she considers serving as the chairwoman of the Southampton Hospital Annual Summer Galas one of her greatest achievements. Under her leadership, the galas raised $1.7 million, $2 million, and $1.7 million in three different years. As of July 2019, she will become a board member of the recently renamed Stony Brook Southampton Hospital Foundation. This will mean she will serve on eight boards simultaneously. Whether Shafiroff is hosting a charity luncheon or a gala, she aims

to make all people feel welcome. This includes everyone from guests to the professionals staffing the event to those served by the charity in question. “Everyone deserves dignity and respect,” she says. “We are all human and there’s too much hurt in the world. Why add to the pain? Compassion and good manners cost nothing.” Shafiroff believes not only in graciousness, but elegance. No matter the occasion, she dresses beautifully and has appeared on many best-dressed lists. A fashion enthusiast, she strives to support talented local and emerging designers whenever possible, she told CNN.com in a recent interview. Currently, France-based American designer Vicky Tiel is one of her main couturiers. Other favorite couturiers include Victor dE Souza, Zang Toi, and B. Michael. Every year, Shafiroff buys three or four couture pieces to wear at charity galas, though most of her clothes are ready-to-wear. She also enjoys wearing fashions by Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, and Alexander McQueen. Shafiroff believes that eye-catching fashion is something that many people appreciate at galas. “Style can elevate any occasion,” she says. “When donors attend a gala and see the host and other guests dressed well, it’s just another detail that adds to the glamour of the event. It also helps make them feel appreciated.” This observation speaks to one of Shafiroff’s key points: “We should always strive to make everyone feel appreciated. We should thank them for their time, consideration, and financial contributions. It is important to thank people properly and never worry about thanking anyone too much.” Like so much of what Shafiroff does as a philanthropist, it all goes back to kindness.

Owner of Château Lafite Rothschild for five generations, the Rothschild family has been associated with the vineyards of Bordeaux since 1868 and today owns Châteaux Lafite Rothschild, Duhart Milon, L’Evangile and Rieussec. In addition to the wines produced from their prestigious vineyards, the Barons de Rothschild have for many years created a range of more accessible wines for everyday drinking. Initially created at the request of family and friends, these were known as the “Réserves des Barons”. In a continuation of this tradition, Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Lafite) decided to produce the Réserves in five major Bordeaux appellations: Bordeaux, Bordeaux Blanc, Médoc, Saint-Emilion and Pauillac. In creating the Collection, DBR (Lafite)’s objective is to offer classic Bordeaux wines with immediate charm. Legende is part of the collection. A taste of elegance. “HOWDEN GANLEY”

The epitome of the mechanic-driver, James Howden Ganley might not be a household name, but his reputation is formidable. Arriving in the UK in 1961, Howden Ganley worked as a mechanic for a number of motorsport outfits before finally landing a Formula 1 drive with BRM in 1971. “Howden Ganley” depicts what may be seen as the pinnacle of the driver’s racing career. Having won the Von Trips Rookie Trophy at the end of 1971, placing fourth at the Nurburgring. In “Howden Galley” the artist focuses on the excitement caused by a Formula 1 car- captured at the Goodwood Festival of Spee, a crowd of excited spectators can be seen in reflection of the car’s rear view mirror. “Howden Ganley” is presented as an original 800mm X 600 mm print on aluminum in a limited edition of 25 pieces, signed and numbered by the artist. Also available as a 300mm X 200mm print on aluminum. About the artist: Kyriacos Michaelides is a photographer and long-time motorsport fan. Having emigrated from Cyprus to the United Kingdom in 1961, he quickly became engrained in the British motorsport scene. www.motorsporticons.com

The emotional range that Sophia Silver as May and Andrew Dits as Eddie displayed was mesmerizing. Same with interpretation of the old man, George Oliver Hale and John Ruby as Martin. The tale of love and the struggle to be an independent woman is what’s evocative of modern times, where in rural Montana, both lovers come to interact which one another. Is it love or is it codependence?

That is the struggle that Shepard conveyed in his writings. The playwright was honored by the Director Kimberly Harris, who is also a theatre teacher at the Lee Strasberg Film and Theatre Institute in West Hollywood. She has produced and On her foray as a theater director she immersed the talent in their roles by traveling to Bigfork, Montana. The result was exquisite. Photography by Kevin Richards

PRESERVATION, NATURE AND FASHION

One would never think that the world of fashion would be concerned with the preservation, protection and nurturing of our world and nature. Well, many in the fashion industry do NOT care, but there are those that do, and the owner and staff of Classic Collections are among them. Glasses: Prada Shoes: Charlotte Olympia Bracelet: Louis Vuitton Necklace: Monies Bag: Dolce & Gabbana Jacket: Yves Saint Laurent Dress: Naeem Khan

Located in the tropical paradise of Palm Beach, this 12 year old top notch luxury women’s consignment boutique supports preservation and in fact, the owner is on the Palm Beach Civic Association’s Beautification Committee.

This was before the was spandex material for clothing, laser cutting of leathers, mass produced shoes and handbags and jewelry made by young and indigent people in China and India.

Preserving the fashion designs of some of the most prolific, iconic and famous designers in history is like protecting precious art treasures or ancient architectural sites the world over. While we do not specialize in vintage clothing and accessories, we occasionally are blessed with priceless pieces from estates in Palm Beach, Miami and New York.

That is not to say that the famous designers today do not honor or emulate the beauty in their designs. Seaman Schepps is known for the designs using shells and ocean motifs and Roberto Cavalli is the king of animal prints- from tigers, python and all things leopard. Hermes scarves are all about nature, flowers, horses and marine life and Chanel never met a camellia it didn’t adore! Lilly Pulitzer wouldn’t be what it is today without palm trees, orange and lemon slices, sea horses and other topical motifs. Judith Lieber minaudiers honor nature and animals with flowered bags, adorable dogs and kittens, and other nature highlights.

Most of the time, the gowns, handbags and pieces of fine jewelry have been perfectly preserved and stored properly so that there is no deterioration and they are as perfect as they were so many years ago. You simply cannot imagine the amazement when we open a boxed perfectly preserved Elsa Schiaparelli gown, Chanel alligator travel case, Hermes Hunting bag or custom made jewels by Van Cleef and Arpels. It’s like going back in time when merchandise was so perfectly designed, tailored by hand, fabrics and leathers were woven or crafted by artisans and everything was checked several times by designers before being presented to the customer.

Kenneth J. Lane brought nature into almost all of his costume jewelry creations from sea shells to flowered brooches to pearls and coral. And Ferragamo is known for its floral prints and animal motifs on clothing, scarves, handbags and even shoes.

BY REBECA HERRERO Dr Daniela Dadurian is one of those good-looking women that walk the talk. She looks incredible after so many years of owning her practice in Palm Beach and West Palm Beach. Oftentimes she graces the billboards of the city, glowing with a wonderful smile. She knows what she does to women all around South Florida and her secret is simply knowledge and that feminine intuition that other doctors might lack.

Born to Greek and Armenian parents – an architect and a surgeon – Dr. Daniela Dadurian grew up in Germany and was educated in England before coming to the U.S. to study at the University of Miami. After receiving her undergraduate degree in microbiology, she continued at the University of Miami School of Medicine where she received her medical degree. Being a staple of the City where the most renowned plastic surgeons reside, her easy demeanor, glamorous grace and beauty is what defines her practice. “I want every woman to look beautiful, no matter their age, their circumstances, it is important to understand what they are feeling. Even a small scar defines your inner soul. It is important to listen and advice cleverly on what we are able to do or not on someone’s physical appearance,” said Dr Dadurian. Several new technologies have been developed in modern times and the new talk on each ladies’ ears is usually, “where did you go? What did you do?” “We are bombarded with information on beauty and it is so important to have a doctor who is passionate about their work. Who travels and learns constantly the new technologies that professionals have available.” From Vampire Facelifts to new methods like Instalift and Trusculpt ID. Also the Skin Lightening procedure. “Instalift is a technique that offers both women and men dual benefit of immediate facial lifting and volumization without the unwanted challenges of traditional surgery. Meanwhile, the Trusculpt ID is a noninvasive laser procedure that helps contour and reshape your body. It melts away the fat and tightens the skin by the destroying the fat cells.

Annie James is a jewelry brand in New York. Founder Anne is a jewelry specialist at Phillips Auctioneers in New York City. Prior to joining Phillips, she worked at Harry Winston as a jewelry specialist and gemologist. After her diagnosis and subsequent treatment for thyroid cancer, Anne used her love of jewelry and design as a platform to promote awareness for the disease. Annie James partnered with CancerCare, donating 20% of the profits.

“Sometimes exercise and dieting might not work, which is why some women opt to have this fast procedure that might only take one hour and get you results by eliminating the fat cells through normal processes. When it comes to Skin Lightening, many young and older women are also going for this great choice. Some women feel blemishes and dark spots on our bodies and faces are not exactly great for our appearance. New technology has developed creams and procedures that lighten these imperfections, as long as they are treated by an expert.”

Horses Healing Hearts

Brings Hope to Children of Alcoholics

I

n the world of art we are surrounded by beauty and inspiration. At times, art is an outlet or expression of controversial subjects. In the same way art can provide a cathartic vehicle to express and even heal from life’s wounds, the presence of animals can provide a similar connection and healing. Ten years ago Lizabeth Olszewski decided to take her experience of a horse who “saved her” and pay it forward by starting the nonprofit “Horses Healing Hearts” (HHH). Horses Healing Hearts helps children who have suffered the effects of an alcoholic parent(s). The interaction between these children and the horse allows them to build self-esteem and learn life-coping skills.

For ten years HHH has been providing important help for these “at risk” children at a time when effective solutions are desperately needed. The harsh reality is that one in every four children under the age of 18 lives with a parent who is struggling with addiction. This totals almost 11 million children. Additionally, overdose is now the leading cause of death for those under 50. HHH is unique in its approach to dealing with children of addiction. The organization is bolstered by a committed team of volunteers, host-barns, and horses who accept these children with no judgement. Through their program efforts, HHH hopes to reduce the generational cycle of addiction and provide these children with skills to succeed in life. With the support of generous individuals and organizations, Olszewski hopes to see Horses Healing Hearts spread nationwide, bringing healing to children of alcoholics and breaking the cycle of addiction everywhere.

ROCKEFELLER FINANCIAL ADVISORS

The Art of Advising Philanthropists By Rebeca Herrero

P

hilanthropy has existed for as long as we know about its impact in societies. It requires tenacity, knowledge of what entails to become a benefactor in real time, and it changes lives to improve them when facing adversity. Life is complex, and some individuals do research and profound analysis to help the benefactors become effective and not waste time or money. Why not plan how to manage your legacy while time is on our side? Also, by enacting change in a positive way? One of the most prestigious organizations in the world is the Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors or RPA in Manhattan. The non-profit partners with individuals, families, institutions to help make philanthropy more thoughtful and effective. Since 2002, the organization has facilitated more than $3 billion in grantmaking worldwide. “We are committed to helping wealthy individuals and families understand better the philanthropic side of society. Not everyone knows how to navigate this world, it can be complicated, it can be confusing. Some cases we really need to find out where grants should go,” mentioned the Program Director, Amy Holmes whose focus is music, literature, green spaces, and criminal justice reform. “One of our benefactors was Agnes Gund who started a five-year initiative seeded by the philanthropist and art collector. She donated the proceeds from the sale of art in her collection. The Funds aims to turn art into action, investing more than $100 million into strategic efforts to reform the criminal justice system. RPA allowed the Fund a way to quickly and strategically begin operating and responding to an urgent issue facing the US by providing programmatic, advisory and governance support.” For more information on the non-profit go to www.rockpa.org
