Editor’s Note We’ve had a great year in Art Bodega Magazine. Not only were we able to have a beautiful celebration with some of our most admired individuals and companies during our 10th Anniversary Issue, but we’ve also had an exciting new development, our partnership with the famous photographer Nigel Barker. Barker, best known for being one of the judges in America’s Next Top Model is an icon in his industry. His portraits are just plain and beautiful art. His perfectionism comes from a passion within that symbolizes the best in the fashion world. We are very proud of this collaboration, and the photographs in this issue are a testament to the enormous effort and production that took months to prepare. Also special thanks to Gina at the InterContinental Miami Hotel for facilitating a wonderful experience, ahead of Art Basel 2023.
Rebeca Herrero Our event in partnership with Ana Milton also promises to be an exciting opportunity for artists to showcase their unique talents. The event Just ART! at the Miami Bay Residences will be an amazing celebration of fashion, fine art and more. This will take place December 3rd from 5-9 pm at a private building and this will be the second edition of the Art Fair produced in association to the Milton Family, photographed in this issue as well.

THE 16-YEAR-OLD IS EVOLVING INTO A YOUNG WOMAN WITH MANY AMBITIONS
T
hrough the years we have captured Kat Fuqua through the lens of some of the best photographers in the country. In South Florida we began covering a young 13-year-old equestrian rider who seems to exceed the expectations of the top equestrian riders in the world. Kat has garnered many accomplishments since she started her equestrian career as a jumper, hunter and in dressage. A tiny girl of 2 years old when she had her best experiences mounting horses, guided by her mother Shereen Fuqua who also shares the same passion as her daughter, Kat blossomed into a beautiful lady with great taste and stern personality. Her mother Shereen and father Jeff, who both ignited in Kat the fire to succeed in an honorable and sophisticated way, support her offspring and her career in unparalleled ways…. Now the 16-year-old is evolving into a young woman with many ambitions, a strong personality, and exceedingly beautiful looks.
The new chapter in Kat’s life consists of competing in Germany with top Olympian trainers- which has made it such a special year for her and her family! Same with her adoring fans. Entering this field is never an easy task, plus balancing going to school in her hometown of Atlanta, living the life of a teenager and learning about the world during her travels has exposed Kat to a new path in her life, full of adventure, determination and charisma. Photographed by Nigel Barker at the InterContinental Hotel was such an experience. She traveled in one day just to be shot by the famous photographer, whose New York crew ensured the lighting was right, the poses were right, and captured her beauty. It is an experience like no other and something that is teaching Kat how to be perceived in a medium that belongs to the artistry of the best! Accompanied by good guidance, good peers, and great passion!

hen Wendy Ouriel decided to become a scientist, she realized her life would change the beauty industry. “I knew I would have my own spa, because nothing out there is what I sell in my skincare line,” confessed the young entrepreneur who just opened her brick and mortar on Worth Avenue in Palm Beach. Her style is chic, she is a slim, beautiful young woman with perfect skin.

“ YOU REALLY NEED TO KNOW WHAT YOU USE, THE INGREDIENTS IN MANY PRODUCTS ARE SO DAMAGING TO YOUR SKIN”
“You really need to know what you use, the ingredients in many products are so damaging to your skin. It’s so important the organic ingredients you add to your beauty regime, day and night,” added Ouriel. She hails from California when a few years ago, she decided to start her own skincare line. The products consist of the following: an oil-based cleanser, a gentle chemical exfoliant, a pigment-correcting eye serum, a UV-protecting serum and a moisture-locking serum.

“I always tell my customers to buy the entire line- you cannot purchase any of my products on its own, I compare it to buying a vehicle, you don’t buy parts of a car, you purchase it entirely, same with my products.” As she handles her own décor of her new spa, the place exudes glamour. It’s impeccable, it has a sophisticated feeling that is symbolized by the perfectionist Ouriel. She has developed these skills crafting her products. The bottle is ultra chic as well, and Ouriel has amassed a cult following with celebrities in Los Angeles, and internationally. The need to develop Oumere was born out of her own experience with facial cleansers and products. “I developed acne. I knew something was not right and being a biologist myself, I knew I could do the necessary research to find out what was wrong with the commercial ingredients I was investing in, resulting in my knowledge to produce what I have created now. Some of the ingredients include carrot seed oil which is both nutrient rich and inflammatory and concentrations of watermelon and grapeseed oils, both high in fatty acids.” In the past, Ouriel has recommended avoiding microneedling and instead use microcurrent. If you want perfect skin, just pay a visit to Oumere located at: 256 Worth Avenue in Palm Beach. For more information visit her website at www.oumere.com

When Sandra Fiorenza travels to other parts of the world, her sense of inspiration goes full speed which translates into the eponymous line that has become a brand in the real estate world. From Fisher Island in Miami, to Dubai and Paris, Fiorenza’s style is elegant, subtle at times, and always sophisticated, reflecting a stoic composure filled with optimism and realism. While being photographed at the InterContinental Miami Hotel by the famous photographer Nigel Barker, she chose her wardrobe with chic outfits in color making it a vibrant display of poses at the second floor of the iconic hotel. Here galas and world-class conferences entertain the jet set of Miami. “Miami has always been a destination for the international jet set. It’s an easy hub to travel to throughout America, but you can always connect to Europe or Latin America at ease. Also, the weather is just perfect, it’s what made Art Basel have a home here during the winter,” mentioned the realtor of high-end luxury homes in the area. Her listings in Fisher Island are some of the most coveted in the South Florida market. She is considered one of the top realtors in South Florida, and her properties in Fisher Island and Wellington are just unbelievable examples of what her portfolio offers. “After joining Douglas Elliman recently, with a background that consisted of a 12-year tenure at One Sotheby’s, I believe I am living a moment in my career that is unprecedented. I have lived in Miami since 1998, I love this city. It represents a big part of my adult life. I have a family here, but I also enjoy a healthy social life with friends, entrepreneurs, creative individuals and all the beauty and excitement that Miami has to offer.” Fiorenza has achieved an impressive history of real estate transactions including the equivalent of $30 million dollars just last year. The exciting description of this mother of three young girls and the wife of businessman Randy Fiorenza, is that she can dabble in the luxury world at ease, as well as the Equestrian world. She is an avid equestrian rider as well. “Yes, I do love my social functions, I have amazing girlfriends in Fisher Island and in Miami as a whole. I just follow my instinct when it comes to developing beautiful properties. It is an intricate value to what I have 22

amassed in experience throughout the years. I always find exciting the beauty of what we are capable to build, and to offer to the international potential buyers we meet daily,” concluded Fiorenza, in the comfort of elegant clothes, while sporting a slender physique with genuine beauty and poise. lly Nissan is a young fashion designer with her eyes set on super stardom in the fashion world. “I really want to conquer it all,” said the brilliant mind of this 26-year-old who grew up in New Jersey. She studied in Syracuse University an entrepreneurship and marketing degree and has lived in Manhattan for the last few years. Recently she developed her own brand called Soiree Miami Beach, a swimwear line based in Miami. Nissan reminds us that the youngest generations of fashion designers have the greatest potential. She is savvy when it comes to sourcing, inventory, marketing, event planning and hires the right team for her new line which is debuting in Art Basel at the Just ART! Event at the Miami Bay Residences, produced by Rebeca Herrero, publisher of Art Bodega Magazine and philanthropist Ana Milton, who supports young artist and non-profits around the country. “I’ve always been interested in fashion. I remember always mixing fun colors, matching textiles, selecting different pieces, being stylish became my passion. I always wanted to start my own business. When I graduated, I worked for fashion companies like Karl Lagerfeld, Steve Madden, but inside of me I knew I wanted to

conceive my own brand, develop it and make it successful,” declared the young woman whose physique reminds any fashion editor of the Kardashians. The young Israeli is beautiful, sexy, and just sophisticated. But the best quality we foresee is her business acumen at such a young age. “When I come to Miami, I feel very inspired. I love the colors of the ocean, the sand, the art deco architecture, Miami has a unique vibe to it. It’s not like any other city, besides being the capital of the world when it comes to swimwear, I do feel extremely inspired by the city when I’m designing,” commented the young promising fashion designer whose metallic tops are to die for. During the photo shoot with Nigel Barker, Nissan was impressed by all the behind the scenes taking place at the Intercontinental Hotel in Downtown Miami. The stylist Dana Goldberg is her advisor when it comes to brand development. Goldberg also worked on every detail regarding Ally’s debut with Barker’s photographs. “My pieces are very sparkling, glittery to the point that it reminds of all the vibrant colors I see in Miami. Also the tropical style, it has music, it has nightlife. It is what speaks to me when it comes to the sparkle and shine of Miami. I love it,” added Nissan.
“I REALLY want to CONQUER IT ALL” 30
Her goal is to also help raise awareness of worldwide peace. “I just want to be inspired by beauty. There is a large amount of suffering in the world, but I do want to be an optimist and inspire young women to love fashion, love beauty, and love peace,” concluded the brunette ready to take the swimwear fashion world inspired in Miami and New York City.

ince a young age, Whitney Stewart Grigg has been in love with all thing’s beauty, particularly skincare and aesthetics. Whit’s love for the industry inspired her to one day open her own Medspa. Throughout college, she would accompany her own facialists and mentors to trainings and trade shows all over the country, as she has always had a passion for education and innovation. After graduating from Lynn University with her Bachelor’s Degree in Fashion and Business, as well as a MBA degree specializing in Finance, she attended aesthetician school to get some credibility in the field. It was in aesthetician school, that Whitney discovered she had an interest in not only owning and operating a medical spa through her expertise and knowledge on what products and technology to offer, but also in treating the skin hands on. She would come home from school and practice what she learned on her friends in the kitchen of her apartment, slowly building her collection of products,

As she completed her aesthetician certification, Whitney began working in dermatology and plastic surgery offices as an aesthetician to gain more experience in treating the skin at a medical-grade level. Whit’s passion for skincare grew as she began to feel fulfillment through providing her clients the time and attention their skin needed for them to gain their confidence back. Whitney noticed the positive effects she had on her clients and she wanted to create an environment and community where she could reach more people to further share her passion for skincare and treating the skin, this is when Skin by Whit was born. Whitney’s business background helped her launch a skincare business out of the first floor of her townhome in 2019, where she would only take clients by referral/ word of mouth. ART BASEL Miami- “Miami is a vibrant city that keeps evolving,” said Mayi de la Vega, CEO of ONE Sotheby’s International in South Florida. Leading the renowned real estate company headquartered in Coconut Grove, Mayi, took a chance 14 years ago and has been instrumental in steering the international real estate brand towards ongoing innovation. “Art Basel really put us on the map with a global audience turning heads to South Florida. This attention has brought the development of new institutions, exceptional high rises, and an influx of New Yorkers with great style. The streets of Miami are not the same as 10 years ago.”
ANNUALLY THE ART BASEL FAIR BRINGS BETWEEN 400 TO 500 MILLION DOLLARS TO FLORIDA 46
"This year, Sotheby’s International Realty proudly sponsors the Collector’s Lounge at the Art Basel Fair in Miami Beach. What does this mean for Mayi de la Vega, Founder and CEO of ONE Sotheby's International Realty and a prominent figure on various boards, including the Florida International University (Casa Cuba Initiative), United Way, Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation, Women’s Photographers International Archive, a Guardian Angel Society Member for Jackson Memorial Hospital? "It reflects our commitment to providing the best for our international clients, attracting those seeking to establish permanent residency or invest in the unparalleled allure of Miami, widely recognized as the premier city to call home in the United States.” One of the most recent testimonies of this new reality were the comments made by hedge funder Ken Griffin who brought Citadel to Brickell, declaring Miami the next New York for the financial industry. “It shows how serious our economic, sociological, and geopolitical landscape has become. Miami boasts not only top-notch restaurants but also vibrant cultural hubs and exquisite museums, making it an attractive destination not just for locals but also for international travelers.” “Participating galleries such as Acquavella, Marianne Boesky, Paula Cooper, Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, and numerous others will be showcasing their collections at Art Basel. I find it an exquisite time to entice your artistic knowledge and flourish in the art industry. For international art buyers and collectors, it presents a captivating opportunity to observe the latest trends in art investments. This is precisely why we are proud to sponsor Art Basel Miami Beach." Annually the Art Basel Fair brings between 400 to 500 million dollars to Florida, with 18 editions of the ABMB taking place, having an attendance that started with 31,000 visitors, increasing to 81,000 visitors. It’s a great engine of money influx to the city starting the high season. “You have to also see the great restaurants that just opened this year alone. "Exploring the vibrant culinary scene of the year, it's essential to appreciate the array of exceptional restaurants that have recently debuted. Notable mentions include Joey in Aventura, The New Schnitzel House, Maty’s situated in midtown, and Pastis—a collaboration by the James Beard award-winning duo Keith McNally

and Stephen Starr. Miami Beach proudly welcomes Casadonna and Rao’s. Another standout is Julia & Henry’s, an expansive seven-story food hall nestled in a historic 1936 building, featuring an impressive lineup of 26 vendors. The list extends beyond these, reflecting the dynamic and diverse dining landscape that continues to flourish," commented De la Vega, whose vision and sense of sophistication is palpable in everything she does. From shopping to the aesthetics of her personal home, the lady who keeps giving and has more than 1000 agents under her wing is a legend in the industry. We can’t wait to see what other major developments are on the lookout for 2024.

About my family.... My family is thrilled to partner with Rebeca Herrero, founding publisher, and Art Bodega Magazine, for our second year, to present Just ART! , a pre-Art Basel Miami celebration and unveiling of the magazine’s 10th Anniversary Issue featuring the creative photography of Nigel Barker. I met Nigel in NYC during a memorable photo shoot for the cover of Art Bodega’s 10th Anniversary Issue, Summer 2023. In addition to being a gifted artist and entrepreneur, Nigel is genuinely kind, professional, and innately adept at bringing out each subject’s best and producing captivating images. Nigel is also a lot of fun! I knew I wanted my family to be photographed

My husband Cecil is the son of a loving, philanthropic Cuban mother and an entrepreneurial, brilliant Cuban-Lebanese father who founded the family businesses, Jose Milton & Assoc. and United Property Management, and amassed an impressive portfolio of residential rental communities, most of which he designed as an architect and built as a general contractor/builder. I was born in Cuba, daughter of a loving, nurturing, and encouraging Cuban mother and a gifted and talented Cuban-Spanish father. The common element that connects our two families is the immense value we place on family unity, community, education, and work ethic. My children, nieces, and nephews have grown up immersed in these values that we best express through philanthropy. Our families’ love and gratitude for Miami seeps through all that we do, and it is our hope that by lifting and encouraging one another, our neighbors and friends, and the most vulnerable, we will all thrive together. Art Bodega readers met my daughter Diana when she and I graced the Spring 2022 cover. Since then, Diana graduated from Miami Law School and has been admitted to the Georgia Bar. Diana is an intellectual property and technology law attorney at BakerHostetler in their Atlanta office. And I am not exaggerating when I say that not more than ten days go by without a Milton visiting her or her coming to Miami. My son Eric, a computer engineer, will start the prestigious Kellogg Executive MBA Program (ranked 2nd by US News & World Report) in January. He serves as Owner’s Representative and Chief Technology Officer at our family company. Eric manages a team that keeps transactions flowing through a digital platform he helped customize. Our Foundation focuses on supporting initiatives benefiting military and first responders and conservation efforts to maintain biodiversity and healthy environments. Additionally, our children are encouraged to donate and volunteer. Eric serves as a volunteer leader of the Red Cross Miami Young Professionals, University of Miami ‘Canes Community President, and a volunteer leader of the young professionals group at United Way Miami. Diana is a STEM mentor for girls, and all three and their cousins help select and mentor our community of Milton STEM Scholarship recipients. The Milton Family seeks out ways to elevate South Florida. THE LOVELY
Style
By Andrew George
of NYC socialite
The It! Girl of Manhattan is a Sweden born beauty who is taking the Big Apple by storm. Sofie Mählkvist debuted at the Viennese Opera Ball in New York City in May in front of the who’s who of the town. “We love New York, my dad, Rolf, used to come to New York all the time, so the city has been a part of our lives for decades,” replied Sofie from the comfort of her home in Manhattan. The Upper East Side resident studied marketing and global management at Regent’s University in London, and has traveled abroad before moving to New York. “I lived in Paris, traveled back and forth to London, and recently got my degree in finance from Harvard,” commented Mählkvist.

“MY FAMILY ALWAYS ENCOURAGED THE CARE OF THE LESS FORTUNATE, WE NEED TO HELP CHILDREN, WOMEN, IN TIMES OF TURMOIL, AND MUCH MORE”
Her life took an interesting turn when she arrived in Manhattan. “I attend galas and functions all the time. It’s very different in Sweden. We don’t have as many social events as New York. All of these events made me more conscious of what to wear. I have to style myself, and it has ignited a passion for fashion in me. It’s all so exciting and fascinating,” declared the 24-year-old who was dubbed the “The Deb of the Year” by New York’s elite. Besides the stylish events she attends, including the Whitney Gala and other high society fêtes, the young woman also has a philanthropic side to her. “When I visited Guatemala, I had the opportunity to get involved with several organizations, including Ayuda, an animal welfare organization that supports stray animals with vaccinations, food, medical care and shelter, and The Mesoamerican Permaculture Institute, which has an ecological education program that promotes conservation and the production of organic food.” When it comes to selection of the charities she participates in, she certainly takes her time. This means doing extensive research on the non-profits. “I want to make sure it has a direct impact. My family always encouraged catering to the less fortunate, and helping children, women, and many more in their times of turmoil,” replied Mählkvist. She also makes sure she is personally connected to the non-profits she supports. “Something about me that people don’t know is how I’ve completely immersed myself in the stories I hear at the fundraising events. For example, learning about how Denise Rich’s daughter died at a young age from cancer was so sad, but her legacy lives on.” The work of the Gabrielle’s Angel Foundation for Cancer Research was inspired by the death of the young daughter of famous philanthropist and songwriter Denise Rich. Her daughter, Gabrielle Rich, died of Leukemia at the tender age of 27. The foundation was created to advance medical research for the treatment of cancer patients. It’s one of the top foundations created in New York City which has raised more than 40 million dollars for cancer research. Sofie helped raise money for the Foundation in 2023. “I’m also touched by art charities' impacts on children who need social services. It is so sentimental to me. I remember a painting that had a flower in it, and it was so endearing to see because it reminded me of my mother and how special my family is to me. My mother loves painting flowers.”

She looks at her life in Gothenburg, Sweden, where her family resides, with fondness: “It’s home. My parents are retiring soon and have decided to move to Stockholm, but I tend to travel back home frequently, as it is part of my DNA. Regarding my career, I do want to perform well. I want to create my own fashion company, and be behind the scenes of developing anything in the fashion world. The business side of it is what fascinates me the most.” When Mählkvist is not working, she loves to walk around the beautiful Upper East Side neighborhood. “I love visiting Central Park. One of my favorite places to go grab a coffee is Sant Ambroeus. The staff is friendly and it’s so cozy. Also, The Mark Hotel; I love the environment.” Her philanthropic efforts, her stylish looks and her deep heart will surely make her a leader in New York society and impact many lives for generations to come! ACKIE SIEGEL
THE QUEEN OF VERSALLES REIGNS AGAIN By Rebeca Herrero
To lose a child must be the most painful and harrowing experience for a parent. “All I want to do is save lives,” commented the glamorous Jackie Siegel, dubbed the “Queen of Versailles” whose title was inspired by the construction of the largest single family unit home in the country inspired by Palace of Versailles in France. Siegel has been married to billionaire David Siegel since the year 2000, and just three years ago the couple renewed their vows at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort & Casino, the couple owns in an intimate ceremony. With the creation of the foundation Victoria’s Voice, both David and Jackie have made their 66
mission to fight drug addiction in America, after the tragic passing of their 18-year-old daughter, Victoria. “All I want to do is save lives,” added the statuesque ex beauty pageant winner who lives with her husband in Orlando, Florida. At the time of her death, and unbeknown to her parents when it came to the extent of Victoria’s addiction (Victoria was the oldest child of the couple), their lives turned upside down after this family tragedy. The young lady suffered from a terrible depression her parents think was harvested by the bullying she endured after she turned 15 years old. “We didn’t know how much she was suffering,
until we read her personal diary, we could see how much she was struggling which is any parent’s worst nightmare,” declared Siegel. Years later, the Siegels campaigned arduously to pass legislation for Naxolone -which can treat narcotic overdoses in an emergency situation- to make it more readily available to the public and avoid the deaths of many. “The situation is out of hand. With the foundation created nine years ago, we have established funding for these initiatives, I’ve never been prouder of my husband until the moment he got up in front of legislators to advocate in solving this terrible epidemic in the country.”
Jackie Siegel photographed in front of her house inspired by the Versailles Palace in France. artbodegamagazine.com 67
Recently, the famous Priscilla Presley just received the Victoria’s Voice Legacy Award. “She also suffered so much when she lost her child and her grandson. Can you imagine, two of them in a row? It’s been so hard on her. All the parents that go through this share a special bond. This is what made us go through the tragedy, the fact that we’ve experienced it and that we can help fight it so not one more life is lost.” “She was one of the first people that called me when we lost Victoria. I had known her from Las Vegas as we owned the hotel that had the suite where Elvis lived, and she stayed there many times when she was young. She has been very supportive,” declared Jackie Siegel. In her Instagram posts, Siegel feeds her stories with beautiful photos of herself, but mostly with her children and husband. Her family seems to be everything for the mother of 8 children, including a niece the couple adopted. Even with the trial and tribulations of life, Siegel is an optimist, and always pinches herself and is grateful for all the highs and lows. Now this incredible story will be brought to Broadway as well. “I felt incredible and couldn’t believe that actress Kristin Chenoweth will play me in a Broadway musical. It’s unbelievable. Many years ago, I was at the Cocoa Beach Pier and I met screenwriter Lindsey Ferrentino. We became friends….I didn’t know who she was, but it seemed that her parents lived there. As we struck up a friendship, during Covid she decided to interview me. Who would have thought she would write what will now be the Broadway Musical, with Steven Schwartz from Wicked attached to it. Both Chenoweth and Schwartz are reuniting for this tale of an American Dream,” said Siegel. Westgate also owns the Cocoa Beach Pier situated on the East Coast of Florida.
With her current TV show: “The Queen of Versailles Reigns Again” streaming on HBO Max, in addition to Discovery +, Siegel continues to entertain the public with her continuous effort to expand Victoria’s Voice, as well as document the progress of her home being developed which should be ready next year. “I do have my own space when I paint. There is something about art that is so therapeutic. My husband sees my landscapes, birds and flowers that I paint, but when I recreate the female anatomy well like any great man, he loves it….he is great. We all paint, we all gather together and create these pieces in the backyard. Life imitates art….”
THE FOUNDER OF VICTORIA'S VOICE:“MY MISSION IS TO SAVE PEOPLE'S LIVES”
Even the American Dream has it’s ups and downs. Mountains and valleys that are part of a reality. “When I met my husband, I knew he loved beautiful women. Being a part of the pageantry world and competitions, we usually train to be public speakers. Even if you don’t win in these competitions, the fact that you train to be in them facilitates the skills to be out there, to be a grown adult and know how to behave, how to act, how to be a woman….for me the process it’s what actually makes you a winner.” Eight children together during the last 23 years is what inspired this family to do a documentary that propelled them to stardom.

WORLD RENOWNED SPORT HORSE FAMILY
Uli & Bianca
HEAD OF HOF KASSELMANN & CO-HEAD OF PERFORMANCE SALES INTERNATIONAL
Francois
Bianca Kasselmann also discovered her love for horses. Her mother Mia trained horses for the mounted units of the German Wehrmacht. Her father Wilfried was a horse dealer, from a time when the handshake at the sale of a horse was as good a a deed. Bianca competed in jumping, dressage, and eventing as well as flat racing. She had ability, courage and heart. Her childhood was rather hard, as her father was a war casualty. Bianca and her sister also had to do heavy work. She began an apprenticeship
Growing up on His German Family’s 12th Century dynasty farm, he breaks the mold!
as a rider with the great horse man Hans Joachim Köhler, the true inventor of sport horse auctions. She graduated with a diploma in front of a commission of the German Equestrian Federation. Bianca went on to be a top rider in Jumping and Dressage and claimed over 100 Grand Prix wins, and over 1000 times first place ribbons at advanced level. Bianca continues to ride five to six horses every day. “Being a professional rider was always my dream job. We owe it all to the horses.” Photos Bianca & Uli top left Middle - Paul Schockemöhle, former star auctioneer Uwe Heckmann, Ulli Kassellmann Bottom – Ulli & Paul
His father, Uli working with horses has been a life-long passion. Uli knew from a young age to make them his profession. He completed his equestrian education with the respected horse man, Hans-Joachim Köhler, as a successful auction rider for eighteen years. Prominent dressage riders such as Harry Boldt, Bubi Günther and Willy Schultheiß were his role models. They provided him with the knowledge and skill set to train horses up to Grand Prix level. Uli Kasselmann is an expert ‘par excellence’ and internationally acclaimed horse man, who was honored with the coveted Golden Cross of the German Equestrian Federation, FN.
Breed the Best to the Best
THE OLYMPIC FLAME Story by Equestrian Editor Shereen Fuqua
Is said to symbolize the light of spirit, knowledge and life. “The passing of the torch from one runner to another runner acknowledges collective human achievements as they move from community to community, spreading goodwill to all.” As Art Bodega looks for interesting Equestrians to feature, Francois and his family are perfect to kick off our International Equestrian Influential List, especially since they are moving to Wellington, FL for the winter season. Hof Kasselmann is famously known the world over as the centre of expertise, heart and meeting place of international dressage, but also as the venue of world-class equestrian events. Each December the world class auction known as the PSI Auction is held 70
near the family’s home in Germany. The forty-year company has been planning their transition of leadership. Like the passing of the torch, Francois accepted the responsibility from his father Ullrich Kasselmann & his father’s business partner of over forty years, Paul Schockemöhle, to take the reins of Performance Sales International (PSI) to co-head with Paul’s daughter, Vivian. The two men got together in 1980 and came up with the idea of a combined auction of their respective breeding farms, one dressage horses the other jumping to be held in America. The first event in 1981 became so successful that the men moved the auction to their German homeland. The young men in the ‘80s could not have predicted annual sales as high as $24
million realized in 2022. Their success is not by luck, but hard work, experience, skill & knowledge for breeding and training the sport horses to the highest level. The men’s friendship remains steady and all business between them is done by a handshake, still to this day. So how does this only son, Francois fill the shoes of these two powerful men and his mother’s? Well make no mistake about it, it’s easy. Like top champion horses the men became famous for selling, the guiding principle for winners is the same. “Breed the best to the best and hope for the best.” Francois grew up on the Kasselmann farm that has been in his family for over one thousand years! Think about that! All these years the land stayed in the family.
ULI KASSELMANN & PAUL SCHOCKEMÖHLE STARTED PSI WITH THE FIRST AUCTION IN AMERICA IN 1981
Starting the Next Generation The idyllic Teutoburger Forest is home to the Kasselmann family and Hof Kasselmann, famously known the world over for best-in-class dressage horse breeding, training & sales. It’s the place where a 1000-year tradition meets the
demands of today’s elite equestrian sport. You can now imagine that Francois grew up in a real horse family with integrity and grit to achieve the family’s goals and dreams. And his passion grew just like his parents. Similar-
ly, he too is a champion horseman, starting with ponies and moving up to jumpers successful at European Championship. And then as a young man working at the Schockemöhle farm, he met his wife to be, Diana. artbodegamagazine.com 71
Diana
was irritated, but not upset. You can tell she couldn’t wait to get back in front of the judges and do it again! Lilly has a huge heart and while she can be sweet and fun when not competing, she is not a pushover. As the younger sister, she will go head-to-head with her big sister. Like an alpha mare, she holds her own. And usually with a roll of the eye, she need not speak, she only tall and looks you in the eye.
Emma
And then we have Emma. She is the epitome of the first born, with her openness to new experiences, conscientiousness, extroversion, friendliness and great stability for a leader and achiever. We watched her ride her jumping pony with so much conviction, she was clear in her signals what she wanted her pony to do. The pony is a kind pony and very talented jumping. I just giggled watching the pair stand as leaders complimenting each other to be the best. As soon as Emma was done riding. She just couldn’t stop loving on her jumping pony with hugs and kisses from the ground. Emma is a fireball. She is confident and takes charge. She rides her pony, and she takes care of the pony, hand walking, trail riding, and doing whatever is necessary to keep him safe and happy. And Emma can attend all the client dinners with her sister, approaching each person with a smile, and asking if they had a good day. She loves her family and loves supporting the top riders of Hof Kasselmann on their path to the Olympics. She is at the big shows ringside and there to encourage the senior riders and managers of her family’s business. Always there for the horses to pat them and let them know, they are loved and they did a good job that day.
THE QUIET ONE DON’T BE FOOLED As in the history of this unbelievable family, and not to be surprised either, but Diana too is a true horse woman. As a young girl growing up in Mühlen where Paul Schockemöhle’s has his stable, Diane always was interested in horses and loved them. “”At the time Franci was doing his training in Mühlen, I was working there (Schockemöhle’s) and that’s how we met! I rode competitively but only for fun!”. Today she raises their two young daughters, Emma and Lilly, as well as working with the Hof Kasselmann Dynasty and PSI Auction. I first met Diana at her & Francois’s fairly new home built on the Kassellmann land, but set apart from the main house, office & 72
entertainment places, barns and multiple enclosed riding arenas. It was very stunning in a discreet way with architecture to complement the thousand year-old farm. She hosted a barbecue with a who’s who list of riders, trainers and friends, of course many Olympians & World Equestrian Games people. She is charming in a quiet way, but you could tell Diana doesn’t like to be the center of attention. With my history of knowing the family some twenty years ago, she seemed more comfortable to open up to me. She talked about her eldest Emma, who is energetic and rambunctious, not afraid to speak her mind. While sweet Lilly is kind & quiet. As I watched her over the months as my daughter trained at Hof Kasselmann, you
could see how much she did to accommodate the clients. Also, every morning she would be with her girls at different times helping them with their ponies. It is clear that she most likely is the quiet power behind her husband to support him and manage the family and to being an integral part of stepping into the Dynasty.
Lilly
Emma
Lilly, (standing in the shot) is so charming and full of sparkle in her eye. She brings her pony to dinner out on the lanaii to entertain the dinner guests at Hof Kasselmann. She is soft and happy in her personality. It was nice to have a day off from my daughter’s riding. We found out Lilly had a dressage show, and excitedly went to watch. She is intense and focused in the warm up.
&
By now knowing her strong family members, one can tell she is cut out to take over the Dynasty when her day arrives.
Lilly
Quite impressive performing in her class and the detail at her young age of ten, she revealed. In fact, as soon as she went into the ring, Lilly’s sweet demeanor changed to determination and persistence to succeed. Then coming out and taking care of her pony all by herself, leading him to the trailer and giving him water on the hot day, you sensed she didn't want company. She didn’t win that class that day. She artbodegamagazine.com 73
SUCCESS MADE BY PSI “The performance of a breeding horse's progeny is the real test, but, for horses untried at stud, the qualifications are pedigree, performance ability, and physical conformation.” So far it is heir apparent that Francois is a winning offspring of this long family heritage. Mainly, because you can see that he loves what he does, he loves his family, and most importantly, I believe he loves to make people happy. To have the Kasselmanns become a fixture in the Florida sport horse scene, is America’s good fortune. Not only exposing top bred horses to the American market, like his father some forty years ago, but offering training and assistance 74
to develop the horses and riders. Will he bring top shows here too? I don’t know but I asked “Coming to the Sunshine State during the season makes sense as it is the mecca of the equestrian sport, and not only in Wellington but Ocala too. It is the heart of the horse industry. While I will still commute back and forth to Germany, it makes sense that my family and our dogs come to live at Hof Kasselman Wellington. The girls each can bring one pony. They know English quite well and are looking forward to developing new relationships like we do.”
“You ask me if I can bring international shows to bring more Europeans to America. Normally it is not planned, but you never know. You run into somebody and you create something, it’s normal.” Like the passing of the Olympic torch, the Kasselmann Family can move from community to community, spreading goodwill to all. And as Bianca says, “We owe it all to the horses!” And I say, “Success made by PSI, we welcome you to Wellington!”

50 Most Influential In the Arts & Philanthropy December 2023
Hof Kasselmann’s
FREDERIC WANDRES
WELLINGTON’S DARLING GERMAN DRESSAGE CHAMPION & TRAINER By Equestrian Editor Shereen Fuqua Our Art Bodega spring issue, we reported on Frederic Wandres, “Freddie” who loves showing at Global Dressage for FEI international horse sport during the winter season for the third year. Dressage is commonly known as equestrian ballet and is the most advanced form of horse training. The Hof Kasselman Dressage Rider led the German team to win three straight years for the Nation’s Cup in Wellington, Florida. Lucky, for me and my equestrian daughter Kat, we attended the European Dressage Championships six months later in Riesenbeck, Germany, the host city for the event held every two years and counts as qualification event for the 2024 Olympic Summer Games held in Paris. 76
To see world class riders was amazing and one of the most exciting horse shows we ever attended. But to see someone you know perform with his horse Bluetooth OLD with results over 77% in the Grand Prix and Special and over 84% in the Freestyle and join his team members for the Silver Team Medal is a moment of pride you can’t explain. Then recently in November the two Freddie & Bluetooth tasted sweet victory at the FEI Dressage World Cup Western European League with a winning score of 83.415% in Lyon, France. The pair come back to Wellington for the 2024 Global Dressage season to continue their path in hopes to make the German
Olympic Team. “The American audience is so supportive of Bluetooth & me. I am really happy to be in Florida. We try to connect a little bit the German horse life with the American horse life to find the right balance for us and for the horses… and to meet some new friends” says Freddie unbeaten in all six 2023 Adequan Global Dressage Festival. In two years and a dozen classes at AGDF, the pair have won 11 and finished second just once. The upcoming Wellington season will be outstanding horse watching for Olympic equestrian enthusiasts of Dressage and Show Jumping competition held at Adequan Global Dressage Festival and across the street at Wellington International. 2024 will be a remarkable time for the horse industry with new talents coming out. arla THE TRUNKS
Company The sole inspiration behind the inception of Trunks Company was our instinctive inclination and natural affinity towards our art, craft and culture. Symbolizing our ethos deeply rooted in Jaipur’s timeless heritage, made us draw inspiration from our roots. Trunks Company was started in 2011. Over the centuries, the usage of trunks has undergone a transformation from being used as caskets to being utilized for storage and as luggage in the form of Steamer Trunks. During the early 18th century, as global travel became more accessible and popular, the steamer trunk endured a significant evolution in long sea voyages. In the 19th century, 80
the era of steamer trunks was defined by their metal or wooden bodies, embodying the spirit of a bygone era of travel. They also found utility in vintage cars during the early 20th century when automobile travel allowed embarking on extended journeys. In the 21st century, we have witnessed an Çevolution with the entire Trunk experience, ushering in a new era of innovation. Since 2011, Trunks Company has been creating
trunks that treasure the emotions and passions of collectors, aficionados, and travelers. The remarkable innovation of our Trunks transcends their original purpose, for their travel recollections; allowing them to treasure keepsakes; captivating display cases for collectors; showcase of celebratory indulgence in the universe of treasured spirits; indulging in the art of tea or coffee brewing; reveling in a compendium of traditional board games; our Trunks infused modern living with a touch of enchantment. We only handcraft a limited number of 100 Trunks each year, each of which is truly unique, and no two creations are identical. artbodegamagazine.com 81

Part of the agreement ending the recent Hollywood writers’ strike was that AI would not be deployed in the creation of entertainment media like movies, television shows and podcasts. Hollywood’s actors’ unions remained on strike as this article went to press, with similar demands for keeping people rather than technology in the roles of acting and speaking in voiceovers, animation, and other broadcast mediums. When asked about his philosophy of success: “One thing I always remember from my grandmother is, ‘You can do or be anything you want in life as long as you're willing to work hard for it.’” Family is deeply important, and Chaz talks with great love and affection about both his birth mother Millie and his adoptive mother, Joan Dean. When Joan passed away after battling cancer, Chaz created a special deep cleaning protective product line 613 to honor her June 13th birthday.
AI FOR GOOD FOUNDATION
The time is now for AI to save the world, Minevich declares. The world is in peril, and AI is not being look at as a savior, but as something malicious, potentially taking away jobs and getting into the wrong hands. “Certainly a lot of this is true, but it's up to us, humanity, to gear AI,” he says. “I always say AI is like a child, and we have to raise our kids by good values, by education. AI is constantly training. AI would not exist if it's not constantly trainable.” We, the public, need to understand, what AI is and what it isn't. “Today, AI is not a replacement for a human being, as much as we want to fantasize. It is really a bunch of mathematics and software to teach computers how to understand, how to reason and synthesize like humans.” AI is created by people, and it needs to be controlled by people like any other technology. markminevich.com

ous models to have equally glamorous hair. Determined in his quest, he attended cosmetology school, quickly became a rising hairstylist.
“The energy, the culture, the history, the people…” celebrity hairstylist and successful entrepreneur Chaz Dean talks with great passion about why he just opened a luxury salon in NYC. Despite living in LA and owning a thriving salon in Hollywood, he dreamt of adding a Manhattan location. Why now? He finally found the ideal venue, a landmark building from 1845 in the West Village which he has painstakingly restored to its original beauty, style, and old-world charm.
WEN BRAND: HOLISTIC APPROACH TO BEAUTY
Chaz has a growing A-list clientele. His meteoric rise can be traced back to an early career as a photographer who dearly wanted his glamor-
By understanding hair chemistry and using natural ingredients, Chaz created a conditioner that both cleaned and protected the scalp and follicles, resulting in lush, hydrated hair. From there the groundbreaking WEN brand was born. Between his new haircare line and his magic touch as a stylist, Chaz quickly gained a celebrity following. His noted clientele has included Gwyneth Paltrow, Alyssa Milano, Julianna Margulies and Nicolette Sheridan. In 2015, Brooke Shields, whose hair had suffered immensely due to decades of over-processing for her modeling
CLASSIC HOLLYWOOD GLAMOUR & WEN PETS Chaz has a deep love of animals…all animals… but especially labs. His current loves are Bella and Riley. He talks fondly about two previous pets, a black lab and a white lab, “I named them Grace and Montgomery after Grace Kelly and Montgomery Clift, because I was in Hollywood and I wanted to bring back old Hollywood. They grew up with me, they came to the salon.” It’s not surprising, then, that WEN Pets came into being.
CHAZ DEAN’S STUDIO NYC What’s next for this pioneer? In addition to a new, delightful sounding Pina Colada scent, plans are in the works to extend the brand with an exciting line of color products that are vegan, ammonia free, and cruelty-free. He is also launching a new lightweight, low heat blow drying tool. With Chaz being in NYC for only part of each month, one senses that starting in June with his first arrival, the next hot, hard-to-get reservation in the city will be an appointment with the man himself at Chaz’s New York Salon. artbodegamagazine.com 85

RENOWNED SPANISH ARTIST PEJAC MADE HIS U.S. DEBUT By Sasha Bogojev
arla THE TRUTH About Horses Cristy Cashman and Jane Seymour teamed up to co-produce The Truth About Horses into a feature presentation for the screen. Adapted from Cashman’s heartwarming novel and published by Spark Press, the story follows a fourteen-year-old named Reese who has a devastating loss when her beloved horse Trusted Treasure dies after he falls at the last jump during the Black Elk race. Thereafter, the teen suffers a second loss when her family decides to sell the family business as well, creating a rift with her father. Soon after, Reese meets an unusual trainer, a selective mute whose way of training horses is unlike anything she’s ever seen. For Reese, if anyone can get Black Elk, is 86
this trainer named Wes. The tale is riveting and shows the power of optimism that a teenager can show in moments of defeat and despair. Cashman is an author, producer and actress who has appeared in several films, including American Hustle, Joy, The Descendants, Ted 2, Kettle of Fish, The Love Guide, The Women, The Golden Boys, The Forger and many others. She is also the founder of YouthINK, a notfor-profit mentor-led creative program geared towards teenagers ages 13-18 with a focus on writing, storytelling, and the arts. Its mission is to inspire confidence, imagination, and self-ex-
pression. She is also co-chair of Literary Lights for the Associates of the Boston Public Library. Christy has also written two children’s books set in Ireland: ThemNot-So-Average Monkey of Kilkea Castle and Petri’s Next Things. When she’s not writing or working on philanthropy and production projects, Christy is most likely riding cross country through the countryside of New England or Ireland. The Truth About Horses is Christy’s first novel. A multiple Emmy and Golden Globe winner, recipient of the Officer of the British Empire (OBE) bestowed upon her by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace, Jane Seymour has proven her talents in virtually all media, the Broadway stage, motion pictures and television. Through her production company she has produced and starred in programs as Sunstroke, A Passion for Justice, Praying Mantis, The Absolute Truth, Enslavement: The Fanny Kemble Story, Murder in the Mirror, Dr. Quinn, The Movie, A Marriage of Convenience, and Blackout. Behind the camera, Seymour served as an executive producer on the documentary film Glen Campbell… I’ll Be Me, which told the touching story of musician Glen Campbell’s farewell tour while dealing with the effects of Alzheimer’s disease.
Renowned Spanish painter and street artist PEJAC made his U.S. debut with his solo exhibition 6 FEET UNDER at 18 East 50th Street in November. The exhibition, curated by Martin Klipp, was on view through November 19th and featured 19 original works, centering on three acts taking the viewer on a journey referencing the destruction, dystopia and renaissance of our planet due to global warming, rising seas, and the changing of the earth due to human intervention. PEJAC’s body of work showcases different mediums and techniques including a burning method known as pyrography, sculpture, and gold leaf. The name 6 FEET UNDER came from one of the featured highlights, an installation featuring a nod to Monet’s Water Lilies, disrupted by shark fins, which was located one level down where the artist had intervened in an underground pool that fell into disuse after the pandemic. PEJAC notes, “I've always believed that my works should speak for themselves; I could never enhance them with my words or my image. I don't hide; I simply prefer to stay on the sidelines.” The exhibition featured key works. Social Warming, which addresses the destructive relationship between humans and nature. When the artist sees large crowds of people, he thinks that the Earth always loses in the end. Hope, a depiction of a flag made of fine gold leaf symbolizes the contradiction of our times. From a distance, it appears to be a rag with holes, torn apart, representing the disunity of a society in increasing decline. However, as you get closer, you realize that what seemed like tatters are flowering branches, with a bird perched on one of them. It's a flag of hope. Crack is a piece where the artist wanted to play with the idea of representing a visual that appears one way but changes completely in meaning when you dedicate enough time or get close enough. Here,
arla you see the typical scene of birds perched on wires, or so it seems. However, when you approach, you realize that each wire is the edge of a broken piece of glass. In each of the four pieces in this 'Crack' series, he does not depict a single tree; these glass edges are the only option left for the birds to rest. Fins is a series of three works conceived on artist palettes that pay homage to Monet and his Water Lilies. The tranquil scenes are punctuated by bronze shark fins, drawing parallels to the rising temperatures of our waterways that have seen increased shark activity in areas where there once was none. Zombies, is an exploration of an alternate dystopian reality, that references Salvador Dali but unlike his work 'despuses de, Los elephants' there are no elephants. Instead, giant oil rigs used for fracking walk aimlessly across the desert, collapsing after sucking the lifeblood from the earth. The destructive parallel of the subject matter is underpinned by the process of creating the image with fire, burning the wood canvas. HORSES
T R A
At a historical horse show, designer boutique, cathedral or stud farm in Germany
MIXING HIGH COMPETITION HORSES & ART MAKES SPECTATING MORE REWARDING For ten years, my daughter Kat and I worked toward her goal to be a serious competitive equestrian athlete. Little did we ever think she would compete and train in Germany. We built Collecting Gaits Farm of Atlanta in 2001 and sponsored US Dressage Championships, & Olympic Trials for years, then sponsored US Pony Finals. Growing up on the farm, it was natural that Kat loves her ponies and eventually competed with her ponies/horses at the Hunter/Jumpers achieving top national honors. So dressage, considered ballet on horses, was added and she excelled quickly making the USEF European Dressage Team Tour the summer of 2023. We always traveled and purchased our sport horses in Europe until the tragedy of September 2001 or 911. With Hunters in Wellington, and best in class trainers, there was no need to travel abroad. Until now. Our passports were processed and off to Germany we went with Kat’s horses for the jammed packed summer events. Besides settling at Hof Kasselmann in Hagen, Germany, with her trainers, top equestrian competitions were on the calendar. As Equestrian Editor of Art Bodega, I thought what a great idea to look for horse art in Germany. Our first major event to see as spectators was the German Equestrian Championships in Balve, North Rhine_Westphalia, Germany. The 75 year old Equestrian Club that hosts the prestigious Longines Balve Optimum German Show Jumping and Dressage Championships did not disappoint. In fact, the competitors were all pretty much famous names in America, like movie celebrities. The show grounds at the water castle Wocklum is the home of the family of Landberg-Velen, an old Wesphalian noble family from the 14th century. The festivities included the most art and clothing boutiques at the couture level. I was surprised. Leaving the show after two days, I thought it best to look at Apple Maps. To my surprise Cologne is located in the same direction as our summer home at Driehof Estates in Tecklenburg, just 20 minutes from Hof Kasselmann where our horses train. A treat so unbelievable at the Cathedral of Cologne, I just had to sit and take it all in. So much art and detailed carvings and paintings are everywhere. Looking up on the ceiling, the painted murals above look like Hermes scarves. One could sit and stare in any direction to be overtaken by beauty and history. I am in awe. Next the CHIO Aachen Equestrian Festival Championships of five disciplines are held each year and 2026 is the FEI World Championships there, as famous as the Olympics. Tennis has Wimbledon and equestrians have Aachen, considered best in the world horse show. The grounds are so large with multiple show venues going on. It can be overwhelming for some. But again, the event, the vendors, the art just really is out of this world. To see fashion shops like Hermes and others, says the level of enthusiasts that come are from around the world. And several weeks later, we got the opportunity to visit Münster and Hamburg, where the designer shops like to locate like Palm Beach or Beverly Hills. The history never stops to amaze. Over the course of nearly a month, we visited Riesenbeck International located at another historical castle, for more exciting competitions renovated in recent years. The principal developers Ludger Beerbaum and Baron Constantin Heereman laid down the corner stone for the future. It is a real honor to meet Mr. Beerbaum who is four time German Olympic Gold Medalist team and individual, and is in Wellington regularly. The Surenburg Castle is believed to be built around 1400, with only two changes of ownership, passing in 1786 to the noble Heereman von Zuydtwyck Family. We met Baron Philippe Heeremen, who couldn’t be nicer to us. We then came across a very talented Artist Mia Jonshagen, and purchased a stunning work of an abstract horse, showing partial face. I can’t wait to get it framed for our new German home at Driehoff less than 30 minutes away. With the full schedule of horse shows there we are excited for Kat to compete in December at the stunning grounds. The shows are just unbelivable with so much history and organization that goes into the experience. We also went to Oldenburg which I thought was merely a breed of horse. Well it is, but the horses come from the Oldenburg area, a city in northwest Germany. Kat got to compete show jumping at the special Agravis Cup and the indoor experience was similar to American Indoor competition but better. The sport is very well attended. All the athletes compete against each other versus dividing by juniors and pros. Kat showed at the German National Agravis Cup Oldenburg for 7th 1.45m of class of 70+ on her horse Nate. Then competed her trainer’s 7 year old, for Youngster Final 1.4m, cleared for 10th qualifying for return of best 35 of 77 for finals ranking 16th. Once again, the shopping and galleries were like no other in the American Shows. It was fun to meet a new artist who brought all her work to her first time displaying at a horse show. I thought it was fantastic and supported her effort taking a large piece home. Going to horse shows, whether you compete or you are an enthusiast, is full of activities, and entertainment. Consider anywhere you go or what you do, if you like horses, I say just look around. The majestic strong animal symbolizes strength, courage and freedom. The noble being is something we can all look up to, and appreciate. Art is a way we can take them home with us. artbodegamagazine.com 91
