The Art Basel Issue 2022 A letter from the editor
It is with great pleasure that we introduce a very relevant story, architect Dee Dee Taylor Eustace was photographed at the BG Ocala Ranch in the beautiful “Equestrian Capital of the World”. Yes, Kentucky and Wellington are also considered the centers for Equestrian competition, but Ocala has something really interesting and relevant that deserves attention, the new “World Equestrian Center” which was built two years ago. The magnitude of the space is incredible and worth the attention of our readers. The BG Ocala Ranch featured in the Art Basel issue is a work of art thanks to the Toronto-based architect and it’s just minutes away from that fabulous equestrian facility. Also, the art in this issue will be live and kicking during Miami Art Week and Art Basel Week. In celebration of our first Annual Partnership with the Milton Family, we are promoting the artists at the Miami Bay Residences through an early exploration of fine artists from around the country. The facilities are stunning and will host the event at the start of Art Basel week in Miami.
Another fantastic story has to do with the Equestrian world, and the Sport of Kings, Polo. Yes, Grant Ganzi is featured in Art Bodega for the second time to discuss his future in sports management and how brilliant his perspective has amazed us. He was photographed at the exclusive Biltmore Hotel in Miami. Thanks to Marcus Duron for helping us achieve this. Also, our First Lady of Philanthropy Jean Shafiroff displays artful photographs for the Art Basel Issue in Miami. She will visit us here as South Florida is her second home. In New York City we have entrepreneur Anna Cherniskaya, beauty and brains combined in the creation of a new Tea Ritual to help protect your soul and body. She was photographed by the great Inge Fonteyne at the Arno Restaurant in the Garment District. The biggest highlight of the magazine is also the Wedding of the Year in Sea Island, Georgia. Nancy and Don Stewart were interviewed by our Equestrian Editor, Shereen Fuqua, which also includes the stunning images of the celebration. One truly beautiful event for the ages!

Bios of the ARTIST
AL DIAZ Al Díaz’s career spans five decades. Born and raised Puerto Rican in New York City, by age 15 he was an influential first-generation subway graffiti artist known as “BOMB-ONE.” His friendship and artistic collaboration with high school schoolmate Jean-Michel Basquiat on SAMO©, (a late 70s Avant-garde graffiti tag project) has been noted often in contemporary art history. Díaz later contributed percussion to numerous musical recordings and performances, including Basquiat’s historic 1983 record, “Beat Bop,” (considered to be one of the earliest hip-hop albums).
CHRIS RWK A child of the 70’s into the 80s, ChrisRWK’s world was often completely flooded with imagery and ideas presented by his television, his comic books, and the music and movies of the time. Immersed in these various mediums, ChrisRWK began to store the images brought forward though these everyday experiences in what he refers to as a "mental journal". This journal was a haven of his thoughts that he could refer to whenever necessary. ChrisRWK’s paintings frequently cite past conceptions of popular culture embedded in his psyche's cache.
EASY Easy is a world-renowned artist who was born in Brooklyn. Shortly after his birth his family relocated to Harlem then the Bronx New York. Easy was initiated into graffiti by his cousin Josh 5, who had a profound influence on him. He was writing the tag “LC” before a female classmate gave him the nickname “EASY” because of his smooth demeanor. Easy began engaging in chalkboard battles with Keith Haring on the MTA subway stations. While writing his legendary tags, Haring was drawing his iconic characters with them both battling to see who could cover all the MTA Chalkboards first.
GREGORY DE LA HABA Gregory de la Haba is an American interdisciplinary artist whose conceptual practice resists categorization. De la Haba’s work explores themes of addiction, contemporary notions of masculinity and Duende, a heightened state of emotion, expression and authenticity derived from pure artistic expression. It is from this place that the artist unlocks his true self—both in art and in life simultaneously.
KIT 17 KIT 17 was born and still lives in the Bronx, New York and began writing his name on New York City buses. In 1974 At the age of 13 He graduated to the New York City subway trains after being introduced to the yards by Mark 198 and Hysen, founding members of Mission Graffiti crew aka MG Boys. This crew was instrumental during the mid to late 1970’s, and instrumental in pushing forward the new subway train era in New York City Graffiti History. Known as a colorist, Kit 17 produced a significant amount of work painting on 100’s of New York City subway trains.
NITE OWL Nite Owl is an Oakland, California based artist whose expressive Owls explore colors and geometries and enter into the realm of “flatness.” A prolific artist whose signature owls jump off the canvas and engage the viewer. Be it stickers in the streets, colorful canvases in galleries or large murals painted on city walls the owl’s works transfer the artist's energy and intensity to the art work.
ZIMAD Luis Zimad Lamboy was born in the South Bronx in 1965. In the late 1970’s he began his career as a graffiti and street artist, which has heavily influenced his style and global brand. He attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC between 1988 and 1990 where he studied textile Surface designing after being awarded a scholarship. As a self-taught artist, he began to combine his skills with formal training in design to develop the unique and contemporary styles he is best known for today.
KOZ Silvertuna Studios is the brainchild and production arm of filmmaker and graffiti artist, Koz. Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Koz was constantly surrounded by art via his artist-parents who fully supported his artistic endeavors from the get-go. While it was comic books and the art of Michaelangelo that ignited his love for drawing, it was graffiti, the art witnessed on the street while on skating missions in Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan, that set the bar and trajectory for his creative life.
LULU Laura “Lulu” Reich is a curator, art dealer, collector, and former gallery owner with a focus on the personal aspect of art and collecting. WORKING IN INDIA AT THE END OF THE 18TH CENTURY AMONGST THOSE IN EXCITING PRIVATE COLLECTION HEADING TO AUCTION
ON NOVEMBER.
By Peter Millett
RARE BEAUTIES
Olympia Auctions was delighted to offer a private collection of Indian and related European works of art by the late British enthusiast Peter Millett (1925-2016) on November 9, 2022. The extensive collection excitingly included several artworks by two of the most important European landscape artists working in India at the end of the 18th century, Thomas and William Daniell. The uncle (Thomas Daniell R.A. 1749-1840) and nephew (William Daniell 1769-1837), toured the subcontinent extensively during the late 18th century, to capture its unique landscape. Their work was received with much acclaim by a broad audience on their return trips to England, setting a trend for these never-before-seen views of an unknown exotic, distant land.
Millett was born in Karwar, near Goa, on the west coast of India, and after school in England and a spell in the Indian Army, he moved to Assam, where he worked as a tea planter. After spending most of the 1950s there, he transferred to Kerala, where he managed the Pambra Coffee and Timber Estate. He came back to England with his family in 1973, settling on the edge of Dartmoor and started a new career as a probation officer and marriage guidance counsellor, retiring in the mid-1980s. From this point onwards, he had time to pursue more seriously his hobby of collecting antiques, transforming it into a business, specializing in objects from India, which, remarkably, he mostly found in auctions and antique shops close to home in the West Country.
In the collection are some important works by two of the greatest travel landscape painters of the 18th century, the Daniells. For mor information go to: www.olympiaauctions.com

Afsaneh “Sunny” Akhtari
By Bennett Marcus
BUSINESSWOMAN
Philanthropist and investor Afsaneh Akhtari is New York’s newest salonnière, inviting inspirational guests from the world from a wide array of fields from business, fashion and culture to her East Side home for stimulating discussions.
In May, French fashion house Balmain tapped Akhtari to host a private soiree for creative director Olivier Rousteing, who was in town to open the brand’s new Madison Avenue flagship. Fashion industry folks and VIP clients, known as the “Balmain Army,” took in a fashion show in her living room.
“To me, art and culture and fashion are equally important,” says Akhtari. “I love beautiful things; I love to be surrounded with beauty, and I find beauty in a lot of things.” She enjoys hosting people at her art-filled apartment, and at 6,000 square feet with sweeping views of the city.
In creating her salon series, people advised her to have a niche, in art or politics or music, but she let her broad scope of interests dictate the programming.
Inspiration comes from everywhere, from an extraordinary young Julliard-trained pianist she came across named Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner to Laurence des Cars, the Louvre’s first female president, whom Akhtari met recently. “I’m all about empowerment of women and girls,” she says.
Akhtari grew up in Iran, the youngest of five children in a very affluent but protective Persian family. “Despite my privileged upbringing, I decided to take my own journey and live my own way,” says Akhtari.
Leaving her family’s home at age 17 for short stints in Barcelona and Montreal, she then headed to Vancouver, where she put herself through college, eventually earning a doctorate in pharmaceutical sciences at the University of British Columbia.
She raised her daughter, Jazmin, now 19 and studying at NYU, as a single mom. This life trajectory was unusual for a woman from a conservative Iranian family.
All her siblings were also educated in North America, and are successful professionals living in the U.S., all are married with their own children born in this country.
After completing her studies, a successful career in San Francisco followed, first at Bristol Myers Squibb and then at Merck & Co., where Akhtari worked for 18 years. She became a pillar of San Francisco society, serving on the boards of the SF Opera Guild and the Modern Art Council. Former California Assembly speaker and San Francisco mayor Willie Brown Jr. attended her 50th birthday celebration.
In 2017, Akhtari made an unexpected move to New York after a whirlwind romance and marriage to financier Donald Smith. His death from pancreatic cancer in 2019 was followed by the pandemic, and she’s finally beginning to emerge from this period of mourning and social distancing to take on New York. “Now I want to do things. I’m ready. I’m a social person, I love to be active, and I love to be involved.”
An avid runner, Akhtari has done four half-marathons, and hopes to run the New York marathon. She’d planned to do that in 2019, but her husband passed away just days prior.
“I am in a brand-new chapter in my life, at 54,” she says. “It’s a chapter I didn’t ask for, but I love change. I’ve lived in three different continents and many different cities. I think you have to evolve as a human being. You constantly have to change to become a better version of yourself.”
Akhtari hopes that as a woman and a minority from a very protective Muslim Persian family, she can be a role model and show others that anything is possible. “I think I am like a poster child of the American dream.” Hers is an inspiring journey that’s beginning its next chapter. instagram.com/afsanehakht

BUSINESS
The Don, no Don Stuart, a man so great in the Hunter/Jumper sport horse business, it took nearly ten years for me to really get to learn him. His reputation proceeds him.
“Do you think your husband is The Godfather of horses?” Nancy, “NO HE IS NOT!” the quiet elegant woman nervously laughed in response. GODFATHER as in “is he that guy with all his history, where people call on him for advice. He’s trained & helped a lot of people over the years. “
THE WEDDING OF THE YEAR
“CELEBRATED IN SEA ISLAND, THE UNION OF WILL GRIGG III & WHITNEY STEWART GRIGG WAS FOR THE AGES.

It took an uncomfortable chain of events to learn about this Godfather. Don who over his fifty year career, owns up to 100 sport horses. Underneath his wit & humor, he’s really just a nice guy. One so nice who barely knows me, as I was drowning in the show life of competition. Don reached out and saved me.
“Not in a criminal way!!”, I quickly injected! And I got a less defensive reply from his beautiful wife of forty years from New Jersey, “You’re right, he is!”
Changing trainers is stressful for anyone at any level. But when your daughter Kat is at the top, and the trainers are judges, it gets very tricky. Don too is a judge and one of the most well known in the US Hunter/Jumpers. But this is a love story of two people from two very different demographic areas. Each told me almost the exact same story of being youthful and caring nothing around them at school but loving the horses.
In an unforeseen chain of events, I found myself with a new equitation trainer for my daughter. With a week left to qualify for a major championship, the trainer called. “Trust me! Go see Don.” Well I know Don at the In Gate always laughing and picking on me, as the parent who didn’t belong there. It actually became a courtesy of respect with us, as soon as he understood I trained my daughter from the time she was one. As an accomplished amateur Dressage Grand Prix rider, I faded in the Hunter/Jumper world.
We traveled to Traverse City but got delayed on a layover. Don replied on the news, “Don’t worry, I’ve made dinner reservations. And it turned into three dinners, and the stress of all that was going on began to quickly fade with him and his wife’s gracious company. But all while observing this strong man in his 70s, Don is a top judge and experienced Champion in his day. His kind eye and personality put me on guard because a mother I knew got snarky with him. She told me he squashed her like a bug and learned her lesson to keep quiet, stay away and in her place at the shows.
But the weekend went on and he kept pulling young horses out for Kat to ride as he expertly trained her from the ground. And I couldn’t stop asking so many questions on his training

and how similar his style was to dressage, a method of centuries ago. The Roman warriors trained their horses in ancient times fighting in full armor with leg yields and canter pirouettes to turn on a spot. Of course it was obvious to me. But another top successful trainer didn’t know much about it and teased both Kat and me. So I struggled learning the Hunter way. Only to discover that Don believed in the training. So I relaxed feeling normal finally.
Nancy: “I started ponies when I was 11 but I got tall so fast ,I moved up to horses at 12. My daughter Erin, did the same thing, she got tall really fast, or so we thought. But then she didn’t grow any more. She did her first Maclay Finals when she was 12, and ultimately won when she was 17.”
Don: “There was a place called the pony club in Raleigh NC, about a mile and a half from my house and everybody in school would go (starting in 2nd grade) once a week for $5 dollar lessons. It was great camaraderie with football and baseball and swimming, the pool on top of the ground. The horses didn’t even have water buckets, they had two troughs. I fell in love and got passionate about the horse. I was close enough I could drive my bike down to the place. On the weekends I would look so forward to going there and I would get a PBJ Sat mornings across the street where the shop sold Coca-cola for 5 cents. We would swing on a vine over the big creek and drop into
the water. We played fox hunting and chased each other in the woods on the ponies. And we would just fly through the woods.”
Nancy: “I would get up at 4:00am to go wrap my horses legs, and go feed him, put him in the trailer, and showed 2-3 times a month. We mucked stalls, fed, did everything. I would come home from college and go to shows every weekend. I also went to fashion merchandising school outside NYC.”
Don: “I fell in love with the horse. We would have little local shows. I never won much so I worked really hard at it. It was my passion. And we cleaned stalls and fed the horses and turn them all out. It was a lot more that just going to a horse show. It was completely different than today. It was a lot a lot of fun! And that’s where I got my roots. I love every part about it. I got my first horse for $350 when I was 12.. I won a pony high jump class at 5’3”. To this day I don’t think I ever jumped higher. It was an awesome pony, super brave!”
“How old was Don when you guys met?” I asked. “Well that’s a funny story as he lied about his age.” Nancy giggled. “He was 30 but he told me he was 29, because he wanted another 30th birthday party! We dated 6 months before I realized.” “How did you know Nancy was the one?” I asked Don. “As soon as we started dating I had to ask her to marry me before she figured out who I was!” he said.
“How did you start your businesses?”
Nancy: “My dad was in the leather business which is how I had access to make the leather chaps. I had my own needle pointing business and was really jack of all trades. I sold my chaps to Bevel and other stores for fifteen years. I fell into representing Elizabeth Locke and her jewelry for 33 years in the the horse world all over the country. When she had just started and I met her at National Horse Show in NY. I had read about her in Women’s Wear Daily. I love her jewelry and presented her pieces to the wealthy horse show communities. Her designs spread. Today you can find them at Neiman Marcus, Saks & her own boutique in Manhattan. We are great friends.”
Don: “In my 20s my buddy and I leased a 20 stall barn for $300/month. Being a know it all, it was a perfect set up for me to tell everybody how to do everything. Yes I enjoy teaching at even a young age. I liked telling everybody how to do stuff. I was really good at it, but it was my passion!”
Nancy married Don forty years ago. They raised their family in the horse country of Ocala, FL. Their eldest Erin continues to ride and train in her father’s footsteps. Whitney who’s marriage to Will Griggs was the high society event of last year. Don Jr, who works in Wellington, FL is the cool charm like his father.
To the left, Don & Nancy Stewart’s eldest daughter & professional Hunter/Jumper Trainer like her father Erin; the youngest Bride Whitney, and their middle child and son with same name Don Stewart III or some call Don Don. Above Bride Erin & Groom Will Grigg III.

“What is your most interesting life outside of horses?” I asked.
Nancy: “For my 60th birthday, Don took me on a safari in Africa. I tricked him into it three times! I love photography and focusing on the animals! The people, the natives, were so smart and so lovely. It was so wonderful that it all took me by surprise. I felt like I was only two inches tall because they can survive in the bush, and it’s unreal! Going out to see the tombs and the pyramids was just incredible as Egypt is in Africa!! We were out in the bush but the tents really were luxury…everything runs on solar and with running water. We followed the migration. You feel totally safe, with guides that watch. A herd of animals galloping outside of the tents…Lions in the distance talking away…it’s all surreal.”
“For photography, I got into it at the horse shows to start taking pictures of Erin. Then I started doing calendars with people at the shows, and everyone wanted to be in the calendar. In Africa the two leopards are spectacular and actually there is three in the shot! The elephant shot is my favorite…that I blew it up to 4 feet by 5 feet in black and white. It is so gorgeous. All the elephants have water coming out of their trunks! I love it. I love the artistic part of it and get the not ordinary shots!”
“Oh yes I love traveling with Nancy. I am the lucky one. Who would have thought I would find someone to put up with me for forty years! I love you bigger & bigger !”
The kind Don sincerely said of Nancy.
So what an honor to be saved by these two that have offered friendship and a horse named Billy Awesome to cheer on my daughter. And all the while my mind in misery to get out alive. It really turned out to be one of the best moments of my life, caught changing trainers and moving on with my daughter.
You are the Godfather of Hunters .. what do you think of that?” I pressed now seeing all that this nice man has done for us. A long hesitation the DON says, ”at this point in time maybe I am considered the Godfather of hunters because I have been at the top of this sport for so many years. I feel like my job is to help entertain everybody and make everybody have a good time and also to try to learn something. Learning does not have to be a miserable experience. It does not have to be rigid like it was in the 60s. I think you can enjoy doing better without being so strict. “
Then like the end of a movie, Don says “Good things come to those who wait, but only what’s left for those who didn’t.”
I say to Kat, “you can’t make a deal with the devil for a blue ribbon. But you can stop to believe in yourself and ponder the meaning of people who randomly show up in your life.”

The wellness expert talks about The Ritual, her new delicious tea!

Story by Rebeca Herrero
Chernitskaya is a businesswoman from Eastern Europe with a lot of strength. Her background stems from a solid childhood that consisted of strict discipline in studies and hard work at school. From the beautiful apartment in New York City that she lives in, the owner of The Ritual, Soul Recovery Tea, which is made of buckwheat, talks about the challenges of coming to America, her formation and why she started this wellness company that puts you in top shape. Before she started the tea brand, the diet guru spent a lot of time looking for suitable factories, since quality was her top priority. Here, a Q&A with the stunning owner of a new enterprise that promises to soothe your soul and body.
Where are you from? Tell me about yourself…. I am from Eastern Europe. Where I grew up, I had to work a lot when I was a kid. My parents were very strict, I had a math tutor, I was reading a lot of books, it was a bit stressful. But now I can appreciate all the effort my parents put into it. Working and studying in excess, to sit down and finish what I need to do was challenging but they emphasize this in my life from an early age. Most of the stuff I do for business comes easy for me. I was the fastest reader at school, I could write sonnets. I wanted to be a journalist, but my mom pressured me to get a business degree. She always said, you can be a journalist and do it as a hobby, but you should have your own business. Another reason why I am so disciplined is because in my youth, when I turned 18 years old, my parents wouldn’t even let me go out after 8 pm. Even though my dad spoiled me a lot, by bringing me chocolates, and presents, he told me to not choose the simple exits in life. Not to take the textbooks that were easy, but instead he asked me to harvest the grain and create a better garden. I thank them for being that way. They gave me a lot of strength.
After you turned 18 what happened? I went to the Czech Republic, but I was not comfortable there. I got a master’s degree in Economics, then moved to London. Afterwards the United States. It has been five years. I would rather say my arrival during the pandemic was not easy either......it was hard to adapt to New York City. Especially under those circumstances. But that makes you stronger and, well, you adapt.

Tell me about your professional career?
My first job after college, I was working with the government handling the reselling of properties that were seized due to non-payments. I would file all the paperwork. For each property, the form was kind of bureaucratic, and it was my first job. Then I worked for a Venetian plastering company, then I wanted to open a pawn shop. By the time I was done figuring out how to open my first pawn shop, I found out the laws in banking had changed, hence I couldn’t’ open it. Prior to that I was a top sales manager for a Turkish manufacturer of rugs, selling to other countries. I was traveling to Istanbul; I would pick out designs. The money I was making was great. It was for the whole region, that was an excellent job. It’s hard mentally, but not hard physically. I was in my 20’s. That gave me a huge financial backup in my early 20’s. I wanted to rely on my own. I am completely selfmade. I’m not going to say it is easy, but it does work for me.
How is your personal life?
I’ve had my own personal struggles with meeting the right person in New York City. Sometimes I think men are a bit intimidated by successful women. But I am taking my time to feel better, to be in control, to find the right partner in my life. I love my home, my apartment has a great view, and I possess beautiful things because I enjoy the good things in life. Who doesn’t. But I work very hard for it.
How do you compare both cultures? From your origin from Eastern Europe to becoming an immigrant in the United States…..
We are very different, but I’ve learned through the years to adapt. We love to read so much, and exchange feelings, intellectual pursuit, but I have great friends in New York City. We don’t like small talk; we like to tackle great subjects and challenge each other with great conversation.
The great fact is that my friends in this city are great due to the diversity we live in.
Tips about dieting?
The best fasting is 36 hours, and it’s a perfect rejuvenation for your whole body. The food we eat sometimes is so processed, it’s so unhealthy. The country has the largest number of obese people. In NYC they are in better shape. I want to make a community to teach people how beneficial it is to fast. I will create a platform for people to know what to eat, be healthy, and drink our healthy tea.

GRANT GANZI
SEEKS THE THRILL OF THE SPORT! HOW THE POLO ATHLETE AIMS TO CONQUER THE SPORT MANAGEMENT WORLD FROM MIAMI
By Rebeca Herrero

GRANT
Grant Ganzi is an accomplished American polo player who has traveled the world in search of a thrill. But that thrill is not what you think. During an exclusive interview at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Miami, we’ve learned so much about the soft-spoken man who just graduated from Business School.
“I want to get into Sports Management,” said Ganzi with a conviction that shows great prowess at anything he does. Miami, the Magic City is his new home. Here, Ganzi is getting ready for
his MBA in Sports Management. For a 25-year-old college graduate, the level of conversation gave us an in-depth look at his serious pursuit. “It helps me so much that I am fluent in Spanish. I just have to decide which sport. It can be soccer, here in South Florida, or any other sport around the country. I’m curious at the moment to see what I am inclined to do.” His curiosity also stems from his background.
An avid polo player, Grant is the heir of a family completely devoted to the sport of polo. His mother Melissa Ganzi is currently
His serious pursuit in the world of sports has made him very curious about his next chapter in life. Ganzi will play this winter in Aspen, at the St Regis World Snow Polo.
one of the few (if only) women to play polo with the high goal polo players, as well as compete in the prestigious tournaments that took place in Saudi Arabia under the Saudi Polo Federation. His father, Marc Ganzi, a businessman from Colorado, also plays polo with the top polo players in the world. From Adolfo Cambiaso to Nacho Figueras. Grant grew up in polo.
“I speak Spanish fluently as well as my sister. We grew up in this world, my mom took care of us so great and had us in Argentina so many times.” The Argentinian destination where you only find the finest polo players in the world besides Wellington and the World Polo League, is a common traveling spot for the Ganzi family. In the United States and the world, Ganzis’ are considered the First Family of High Goal Polo. Their constant contribution to the Sport of Kings plus the love and dedication to the game, is represented by the two sophisticated entities that form the highest level of polo clubs in the United States: Grand Champions Polo Club in Wellington, and the Aspen Valley Polo Club.
In Aspen, Grant Ganzi is also ready to take the reigns of Snow Polo. But going back to Grant’s inquisitive mind, it surprised us how highly knowledgeable he is about stadiums, hotels, restaurants, and the world of entertainment. “The stadium in Vegas is magnificent. Have you seen it? Is brand new and just behind The Mandalay Bay……” said Ganzi with amusement.
Another favorite spot that Ganzi mentioned: the most spectacular hotel in Vegas, the Wynn Hotel. The art world, the hospitality industry and high cuisine also entertains his mind. He talks about it with passion, relating the matter to the idea of managing sports. At the end, it’s all about entertainment.

When Grant Ganzi stays in Aspen and plays the tournaments with Prince Harry as well as other celebrities, his passion for high cuisine reflects a level of sophistication. He mentioned the latest restaurant in town, Casa D’Angelo. “Great food,” said Grant Ganzi. “Yes, I have been to Casa Tua, so many other places. I really enjoy the great lifestyle that Aspen offers to locals and outsiders. But home is also Aspen,” said Grant with great pride.
Aspen is a beauty of Colorado, the “Alps of America”. Situated in the Rocky Mountains, Colorado’s Rocky Mountain National Park is traversed by numerous hiking trails and the famous scenic Trail Ridge Road, a 48-mile highway that reaches a high point of 12,183 ft. There are four ski resorts in Aspen, people travel around the world to ski here. Here people have the feeling of camaraderie and community.
Grant Ganzi plays polo with the best polo players in the world. He admires Juan Martin Nero. Ganzi belongs to the Aspen Valley Polo Club and the Grand Champions Polo Club. Here he poses for the photographer Mozes Ban inside the Biltmore Hotel.

A small town of the highest level of sophistication, Aspen is not unattainable as other wealthy areas in the country. It feels real, it feels special. Just like the polo players are: “We play with great passion for the sake of the sport. My parents have kept it genuine because of their true sentiment to this very beautiful activity, it’s not called the Sport of Kings for just any reason, it is called that name because only the best can play, love it and promote it in a wholehearted way, and anyone with talent on the ponies can do it. It’s not elitist, it is beautiful. In polo, you cannot anticipate anything that will happen, your senses are alive…and you just want to score.” Well said for a man that can become the future of sports!

FOR THE LOVE OF HORSES AND BEAUTIFUL THINGS

Dee Dee Eustace is a Toronto, Canada-based architect full of talent. Her exquisite taste is reflected in the multiple properties she has worked on over the years. Including commercial buildings and condominiums in Toronto with impeccable art, fine finishes, modern furniture, and an air of contemporary fixtures that make an ambiance refined, tasteful and distinctively current.
She is also the owner of Taylor Hannah Architect Inc, an architecture, development, and interior design firm specializing in the residential and hospitality sectors. Notably 5th in the world for Superyacht refit 2016.
Dee Dee is a world traveler, but one of the places where she finds peace at is the BG Ocala Ranch, which she and fiancé, Bobby Genovese, share. The ranch – with its hilly green landscape surrounded by a white fence where horses revolve around the property with great freedom and space – was recently renovated by Dee Dee and her team.
Here she rides, plays polo, entertains a crowd of taste makers, friends and family. Her globetrotting nature has enabled the star architect to be inspired: “I like to explore for pieces that nobody has, when I go to Thailand, or anywhere around the world, I love to find a trove of treasures that embody uniqueness, beauty, and what is not always attainable.”
During our weekend photo shoot at the ranch, Dee Dee showcased her svelte figure, blonde mane, green eyes, and long legs. Her look can go from Ralph Lauren to sophisticated socialite of high regard. Her philanthropy is also key in the growth of her brand.
“I love to connect with people, share experiences and offer support in as many ways as I can. Raising funds, changing legislation or building awareness is at the core of what I do.”
She is so inspiring in that she has spent years cultivating numerous charities, with a specific focus on supporting women.
Her platform to create change ultimately came from being a public figure known as and expert and leader in her field. Her television shows with Canada HGTV and her column in the Globe and Mail made her a household name across North America. Even Oprah Winfrey, in her heyday, showcased Dee Dee on several occasions.

Dee Dee hosted HGTV’s Love By Design, a home makeover series that aired both in Canada and the USA, and was one of four hosts for the Canadian HGTV Designer’s Christmas Special. She was also the Design Expert columnist for the Globe and Mail newspaper style section, and is author of Dee Dee Rules: NYC Life, Love & Design.
In philanthropy she has chaired the Silver Dinner for Healthy Minds Canada, Cook for the Cure for Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, the International Arts and Antiques Show in NYC, the Canadian Council of American Relations NYC, the Gala in the Garden for the Botanical Gardens, the McEwen Steam Cell Race, and, most recently, the board of the New Start Foundation for Edgewood Health Network. She is also a Board member of North York General Hospital and ArtScape Foundation, Canada. “My family has a tradition of professionalism and philanthropy with children. You need to balance motherhood with a career. I do it with purpose and ease because I love it. My children are trailblazers in their own right. It feels healthy, positive, and radiant at the same time,” said the proud mother.
THE BG LIFE
At the BG Ocala Ranch of Bobby Genovese, you find a beautiful 100-acre spread of land filled with towering oak trees that dance in the wind. The wind feels special here, when you're relaxing by the Four Seasons-type swimming pool surrounded by dozens of horses grazing in surrounding pastures. Genovese (who bears an uncanny resemblance to Brad Pitt) is an avid international traveler and highly respected businessman with decades of success. He has a great sense of humor, a relaxed demeanor and impeccable style. His love for horses is attached to his athletic abilities. His tour de force was inherited by both his grandfather and his father, who were both athletes, as well as his mother, who also had a keen sense of business and loved socializing and entertaining.
BG Ocala Ranch it is completely equipped for entertainment. “We love to bring our family friends here where they can stay at the main house, or in any of the six 3-bedroom, 2-bathroom cottages on the property.”
Guests and family can enjoy the incredible biking trails of the adjacent Florida Greenway, plus miles of trail riding on any of the 36-plus polo horses at the BG Ocala Ranch. (It would be ill gotten of me to not mention the trampoline, the basketball court, the Pickle Ball court, the carousel and -- when you think you’ve seen it all – the train that takes passengers through the Ranch past mock cowboys, giraffes, hippos, and elephants.)
In 2007, Ocala/Marion County was named the “Horse Capital of the World,” a testament to the area’s unique position in producing the world’s finest thoroughbred champions.
There is also a polo field on the ranch where Bobby likes to invite family friends and other polo players to come play during the season. The high season for polo is between January and the end of March. There is also the new billion-dollar World Equestrian Center that recently opened nearby . It is the largest equestrian complex in the United States – a world-class, multi-indoor and outdoor arena facility offering state-of-the-art amenities to accommodate numerous disciplines within the equine industry.
“Dee Dee is an amazing interior designer and architect,” said Genovese, spotlighting her most recent work redesigning the ranch’s stunning new backyard pool complex along with key renovations to the entire home.
“I admire her so much. She has great passion for all things beautiful,” said Genovese. “Dee Dee has great style with an extraordinary talent for creating true relaxed elegance, which I love.”

DIVINING THE MAGIC NUMBER
THE NEW PAINTINGS OF GREGORY DE LA HABA
Essay by David Gibson
The approximation of value is a human activity on the same par with academic reasoning or artistic endeavor. It’s something that’s been a part of human nature for as long as humanity has existed. The determination of value according to the amassment of numerical facts to match material and chronological circumstances in the contexts of different persons, communities, and societies leads us inexorably into a competitive situation; yet there are also spiritual and aesthetic aspects to this quandary that challenge us to advance ourselves. In order to greet the terms of this challenge on equal
terms, it helps to have an object representing quality by which to gauge and express the result. It helps even more if the object is immeasurably complex or idiosyncratic. In the new paintings of Gregory de la Haba we have an exemplary model of objects for reflection. They are both paintings of real objects taken out of an everyday narrative and symbolic embodiments of the transformation of human agency, luck, and fate that movement between places and values can bestow. They offer us beauty and mystery in their mastery of significant form. De la Haba has a particular fascination with num-
bers. He finds them along the route he takes each day. They are simple address numbers, often affixed to a doorway in a haphazard fashion, the doorways themselves festooned with graffiti tags that may also include numbers. Larger wall-based graffiti features numbers portrayed dramatically, often referencing a number of personal significance. They may refer to a sports figure’s team number, or something less ubiquitous: an auspicious date, one’s age, number of children, and so forth. Personal numbers have an affinity with accidental ones in that, for one reason or another, they can achieve a magical vibration. The numbers that de la Haba locates in his paintings are, by their very association, historically magical, the manner by which they have been promulgated in popular culture attaches them specifically to the activity of gambling. This pastime is symbolically loaded and carries a near cult appeal. The dynamics of chance in determining a degree of luck, and therefore of fortune, is something that we can only surmise has charismatically suggested the necessity for these paintings.
De la Haba has combined two different experiences as the symbolic framing device of his new series, doors as portals to alternate dimensions, and numbers—especially numbers emphasizing the Power of Three, as codes and spells allowing entry into these doors. Like Ali Baba saying “Open Sesame” the repetition of a number works like a prayer, like saying Holy, Holy, Holy. It is the emphasis of the
specific number with the punctuated phrasing of its sound and name that gives one charismatic magic. De la Haba hopes to give himself a measure of that power by combining the depiction of those triple sets of numbers with an image of himself, shamanistic and empowered. Perhaps he’s collecting numbers, stringing them together to complete a secret code that will ensure his success in the future. Because numbers are not a language in and of themselves but can be made to serve various systems of thought, they are the perfect medium.
JACKPOT 4 DUENDE depicts a door literally covered with forms and words, a single number ‘4’ affixed at its center above where an eyehole would be. Above the number in carnival style lettering stretching upwards at the ends like two wings, is the word JACKPOT, and below it, in a tagger’s script, is the capitalized
word, Duende. Below the word, like sentinels at the door of a castle or temple, are two images of green-glowing harlequins modeled after the artist’s youthful club kid friend Muffinhead. Between them are the words “Fucking LEBOWSKI” in red. The first word we can understand, it means the greatest amount of possible luck, a victory in achieving success in gambling. It could also be stretched to a meaning equal to Eureka, meaning a stroke of success in the discovery of any ardently hoped-for result. ‘Duende’ is a little stickier, for it has no exact translation from its original Spanish. The poet Federico Garcia Lorca used it often to infer the feeling of an overpowering emotion, meant as the transmitter of poetic and therefore existential truth, and the power, or spiritual current that put the truth itself into play. To utter the word duende itself is to speak of spirits and the pure power of inspiration, like the invocation of a prayer. The reference to Lebowski is a filmic one, a character who’s a charismatic loser, an everyman type like Willy Lowman in The Death of a Salesman. He loses but does it with style, and only because he risks everything to win. De la Haba is here crossing boundaries to take his cultural earmarks from visual sources that also possess an archetypal affinity with his own character and aspirations.
LAZY EIGHTS presents a door and the brick walls of the outside of the building over and around it in a greenish cast with a stylish graffiti of mawkish faces gazing at visitors and passers-by. Falling all around and over the faces are many small colored specks, round like glass marbles, though they could be confetti, or gumballs, or technicolor hail. They form a scrim complicating direct perspective. Before them, rising like spirits or electrically charged particles, are three bendy number-eights. They give the impression of being ghostlike, as if the number inferred in each one is a separate person—an eighth child, a member of a sports team, or someone who was born or died at the age or on a day marked by the same number. The three soundings of the same number are like intonations of a wish or a prayer, spoken for effect. Three spirits named 8 rise

mysteriously as if through dimensions and are momentarily visible, like flotsam blown in the currents of the wind. They reminded me of the soul of a recently deceased person giving up its mortal weight and rising slowly to heaven. The expression in the title actually refers to an air pilot’s test of appropriate mastery in using the weight and impulse power of the plane to drift through wind currents and rise into a situation of defined control. Luck (or its metaphor, Grace) is often achieved by giving up control and letting the winds, or the wings of angels, carry us.
LIFE GIVES SEVENS is another powerful work from the new series. It presents a sequence of interlocking symbols that includes the three numbers of absolute charismatic power, numbers that being prime, and uniquely only divisible by themselves and the Number 1. That’s like saying they are the same number, a further imprimatur of essential importance. To say one is seven is, in the contemporary parlance, the same as being a unicorn or a snowflake. Utterly symbolic and likewise utterly unique. Framed below the three sevens, which in the way they are depicted, seem almost like a halo or a crown upon the image of the artist himself as he appeared in a painting from several years before: primordial man, clothed in the hides of animals, like a Viking king, his posture solid and resolute, his eyes bearing toward heaven or the future. This early model of humanity is willfulness indomitably possessed, man himself as a force against all nature, and all things yet unknown. Such a man might exist for millennia without grace.
Yet to be self-impowered and self-fulfilled is enough. His self-image as existential Wildman symbolizes the importance of personal and spiritual growth. Below this image is a Wanted Dead or Alive poster scribbled with the words ‘Powers Pleasant’ and below that the words Triple Play and the trickster-familiar figures of Muffinhead. All around the painting are glyphs of stars painted in spray paint with the starlight oozing like cosmic blood all around the picture, suffusing it with a celestial watermark.
The presence of doors in these paintings cannot be understated. First and foremost, they root the inspired moment in an everyday experience of a city dweller, walking past myriad doorways where some addresses are familiar and many others not at all. The ever-evolving character by which residents of a neighborhood choose to leave an intrinsic mark upon the bleary normalcy of buildings
in working class neighborhoods adds to their aesthetic engagement in the random moment.
Numbers combined with doorways became the accrued duende that brought these images brooding into de la Haba’s consciousness.
Numbers enter our consciousness with a regularity that is immediately disarming. They count streets and buildings on those streets. Our ability to recall specific addresses and place a value, both personal and universal, on certain numbers, is a measure of our ability to grow as human beings. To belong to a place is to assume the value of the numbers specific to it. Say a certain address according to its number and one immediately knows its distance from the center of the city, from the major thoroughfares, and its proximity to important attractions or utilities in the area. Location, as the saying goes, is everything. De la Haba locates the power of inspiration and places it in portals to new knowledge.

Fernando Allende was born and raised in Mexico City. He started painting in 1999 as a resident of Aspen, where he lived with his family for 18 years. He was inspired by the vast natural beauty of the area and the creativity of the community. The Misrachi family of Galeria Misrachi in Mexico City, discovered Fernando and helped launch his career as an artist. The Misrachi family is credited with propelling the careers of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera, Mexico‘s most famous 20th Century Masters. Fernando has been called one of Mexico‘s most dynamic 21st Century artists at the Biennale of Art in Florence, Italy. Fernando has had 18 art shows and his paintings are in 69 collections around the world.
“Fernando’s

RACING TO ROME
From his earliest days with the Lohner carriage and automobile manufacturing firm in Vienna starting in 1899, young Ferdinand Porsche had ambition. Not only did he imagine constructing automobiles for wealthy and royal clients, but he intended to make a small, affordable automobile for everyone, a vision few shared with him.
1950-1965
DRIVER PIERO DUSIO PAYS THE RANSOM
At the end of the war, a number of Germans had relocated to Italy to begin new lives—among them car enthusiast Karl Abarth, who, in keeping with his new home, changed his name to Carlo. He and a few others had settled in Turin, and it was to them that Dusio turned to find the best designer for his Grand Prix car. One name came quickly to the fore: Ferdinand Porsche, whose Auto Unions had raced at Monza and in the Italian province of Tripoli in North Africa.
1953-1962
1955 Typ 356-1500 Coupes A pair of drivers pulled out of the Zuffenhausen Works gate for testing miles on the roads and Autobahn around the factory. Between 1948 and 1955, Porsche assembled 9,100 of its 356s, including 52 “production” and 11 SL versions from Gmünd. Ironically, when Ferry committed to ordering 500 car bodies from neighboring Reutter Karosserie, he worried if he ever could sell them all.
1967-1974
1962 Typ 804 Formula One . Dan Gurney, driving Porsche’s Formula One car (No. 1) qualified second quickest around the Solitude Ring, an 11.4-kilometer, 7.1-mile circuit through hilly suburban Stuttgart. While he may have been studying the Lotus and Cooper behind him, they were no concern during the 25-lap race, which Gurney won by nearly two seconds over Porsche teammate Jo Bonnier.

976 Typ 924 This former VW project set new precedents for Porsche’s sports cars in several ways. It put a water-cooled four-cylinder engine in front with a four-speed manual trans-axle gearbox at the rear. It also delivered one of Ferry Porsche’s long-wanted large glass rear hatch.
1983
1993 Typ 964 Speedster The original Typ 356 Speedster from 1954 through 1958 established a true cult following. So Porsche followed up the 1989 Carrera version with one on the Carrera 2 platform. In its narrow body configuration—1,652-millimeters, 65.0-inches wide—the Works assembled 930. The Exclusiv department also delivered about 15 wide bodies.

1982-1987
1984 Typ TAG-P01 and McLaren McLaren Formula One star Niki Lauda was extremely anxious to get Porsche’s engine into his McLaren. He had strong faith in Hans Mezger’s design and Valentin Schäffer’s turbocharger mastery. He was right and in its 1984 debut season, the F1 drivers’ championship became a battle between Lauda and teammate Alain Prost with Lauda winning the title.

1986 Typ 961 and 962 C at Le Mans This aerial photo shows the middle of the starting grid for the 24-hour race at Le Mans. Just at the word “CLUB” on the pit wall, Porsche’s unique fourwheel-drive racing Typ 961 waited for the race to start. With no official category for four-wheel-drive, the organizers entered it as in the IMSA GTX class. Drivers René Metge (who also won the Paris-Dakar Rally earlier in the year) and Claude Ballot-Léna drove the 961 to seventh overall, completing 321 laps and winning its class.
2004-2019
Cynics at the start line in Paris predicted the 911s were “never going to see Dakar.” Here Metge and Lemoine have an almost unobstructed view arriving first into town. The 911 4×4s defied all expectations.

1998 Typ 996 Cabriolet Porsche introduced the Typ 996 in late 1997 as a 1998 model. Both coupe and cabriolet models introduced a water-cooled 3,387-cubic-centimeter-displacement opposed six-cylinder engine that developed 300 horsepower. Typical Porsche attention to detail pulled 50 kilograms, 110 pounds, from the car.

Southwest Ranches Fla., is THE value proposition for ultra-high-net-worth people
As pricing continues to rise and inventory remains low across South Florida, high ticket buyers are looking beyond the intracoastal and usual ultra-luxury zip codes, while staying within reach of the important metro hubs of Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Boca. It’s a trend that’s turning suburban heavens like Southwest Ranches into Hamptons-style hideaways.
The Town of Southwest Ranches, a low-density, quaint equestrian community in Broward County is a favorite hideaway for sophisticated, in-the-known estate level property hunters.
Sales in Southwest Ranches have heated up as the area gains traction with high-net-worth buyers looking for privacy, value, acreage and world-class estates within the regions
remaining farmland. Homes, custom made on order, rarely hit the market in the town, shielding prices from the public. But recently, custom-made estate 11 acres, built by Landmark Custom Homes, hit the market there at $54 million, demonstrating the area’s unprecedented price growth.
Landmark Custom Homes, the area’s leading luxury home builder, is behind most of these prominent estates, and offers turn-key building services via bespoke architectural designs from world class firms including Affiniti Architects of Palm Beach, Choeff Levy Fischman and CMA Design Studios in Miami. Landmark Ranch Estates is composed of just 44 estate sites, ranging from 2 to 5 acres. Now, just five custom estate home sites remain available, with estate designs ranging in price from $8 million to over $30 million.
Residents of Landmark Ranch Estates, the most prominent luxury estate community in Southwest Ranches have included “A list” Hollywood celebrities and top tier athletes as
well as entrepreneurs and C-suite execs from varied business sectors.
“Southwest Ranches represents an unparalleled value proposition for ultra-high-networth people,” says Douglas Elliman’s Miguel Serrano, noting that the area is close to the region’s two most used executive airports: Ft Lauderdale Executive and Opa Locka Executive. “It’s like a Hamptons lifestyle in an almost unknown, secret location, and thanks to strict preservation rules that prevents future over-development it's going to stay that way. The town’s informal motto is ‘The pavement stops here!’”
“A community like this can never be created again in Southwest Ranches,” says Rick Bell, owner of Landmark Custom Homes, who envisioned this area as one of the last bastions of rolling acreage in the whole tri-county area, buying some 150 acres nearly two decades ago prior to the town’s incorporation.

WELLNESS
FAMILY FIRST
As co-founder of CrossFit, Lauren Jenai is more than qualified to give out fitness tips. But now that we are in the thick of the holiday season, many of us may feel like “hustle season” is far gone. Lauren shared her holiday wellness tips with Art Bodega magazine, and they may come as a surprise. The intensity and high-pressure of CrossFit have been traded for putting self-wellness first.
A mother of four, Lauren’s main priority is her children. She homeschools her twin boys and helps her daughters through online high school. On top of that, she teaches them many valuable life skills, giving them the same immersive experience, that in-person schooling would provide them with. In between pottery and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Lauren’s children also get to watch their mother work on various home improvement projects, which can teach them many valuable skills to take through life. It is this same philosophy that she would use to motivate others with. Find new hobbies, don’t limit yourself, and remember the most important things in life, like family.
HOLIDAY HUSTLE
Now, although the holidays are well underway, there is still a chance to get into the shape that you want before the end of the year. In fact, Lauren says that “Setting three-month goals seems to be a very effective strategy for most. It is easier to stay consistent when you are only committed for a set amount of time.” This way, you can enjoy those holiday treats without all of the stress and guilt that usually
accompanies it. Lauren suggests trying this alternative way of thinking: “Okay, I had a pint of ice cream; it was good. Do I want to do that every day? No. But really, it’s important to take all of the judgement and stress out of your nutrition routines.” So, yes, the founder of CrossFit wants you to work on how you think and process your own choices in order to create harmony with the rest of your body. Physical health will only feel positive if you think positively as well.
“Know what you want,” says Jenai. “Maybe you don’t actually want to use 20 pounds; maybe you just want to lose some body fat and gain muscle.” Those cognitive distortions can create. A great barrier in trying to achieve your fitness goals, so it is important to get them sorted out before you start reaching for an achievement that continues to get farther away.
Continuing in this vein of positive mental attitude, the last tip Lauren would like to share with those struggling through these winter months both physically and mentally, is to celebrate the little things. Being critical of yourself might feel like it would effectively motivate you to work harder or longer, but it actually sends messages to your body of negativity and self-loathing. Being espier on yourself and celebrating each little victory day to day can improve your overall health greatly.
“Over time it programs your brain to not be self-defeating in your behavior, but self-celebrating instead,” says Jenai. “Embracing this more forgiving approach to wellness has been a revelation.”
AND A HAPPY NEW YOU
For those already set in their ways with a consistent fitness routine, Lauren reminds you to keep on going. Even outdoor workouts are still possible on those chillier days and can help to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and improve immune function. Then comes the more-common-than-you-think issue of seasonal depression. While taking some time off from the stressors of life more prevalent during the other months of the year, it is okay to splurge and miss a day here or there. But if you feel like the weather is not the only thing bringing your mood down, it might be a reminder to keep up with the wellness strategies that have not yet failed you, A good workout routine and a couple of side-projects (For Lauren: landscaping, painting, building a garden), can help to alleviate many of those symptoms and ultimately see you through the holidays into a happier, healthier new year.
Funny thing about love, it’s almost always complicated. It encases a spectrum of emotions that dives into what or who you love as who you are.
We can get into family, friendship, or intimacies, but right now let’s talk about a special place, the city of New York. All cliches aside, New York knows it’s not the most beautiful city, or certainly the most lovable in a cozy charming way, but also knows that Gotham is a living, breathing organism that draws moths to a flame. When I used to live in Manhattan I was traveling a lot, and coming home from the airport I’d get chills as I cross that bridge. I’d ask the driver to take the outer lane so that I could get the full-scale panorama as a world of opportunity.
Recently, through a friend, I met an artist named Guy Stanley Philoche. I was told he’s a really talented and charming guy, of course I went to Instagram (the Encyclopedia Britannica du jour) and came across these large paintings with all the icons of why we love New York.
WITH LOVE, GUY STANLEY PHILOCHE
“I was having dinner with some friends and the city was slowly opening back up, and everyone at the dinner table was saying that New York is dead,” He explained. “They all wanted out. ‘It’s never going to be the same’, et cetera, et cetera. I was just sitting there, listening to it and thinking ‘What are they talking about?’ so I went back to my studio and said ‘NEW YORK, I STILL LOVE YOU!.. and let me remind them why I still love you’ and that’s when I started to paint these iconic things.”
And he did. Remember the Subway Pizza Rat? That adorable looking mafia boss creature? He’s there. The Black & White Cookie is present (Seinfeld once had a great conversation with George Costanza about it). Chinese Take Out containers, famous Pop artists that embody New York culture (Warhol, Basquiat, Koons, to name a few), and a couple dozen others, all of these compositions are “framed” as Polaroid pictures with LOVE NYC in lipstick red on the
LOVE
By James Salomon
There are other bodies of work, but this New York series feels very dear to me, having been one of those who moved away after the pandemic. Memories abound. So thank you, Mr. Philoche, for bringing that back to me.
This man is compelling. Having just met him, he has a genuine and sincere warmth, but with a no bullshit street style. His ideas come from the right place, and LOVE is in that potion. For an artist who has had considerable commercial success and attention, I needed to ask What is your Why? “Who in their right mind would want to be an artist? There are times when I wish I had a more straightforward, simpler life. It’s in your blood, it’s in your DNA. I’ve made so many personal sacrifices by being an artist, but it’s something that I have to come to terms with. I want my work to provoke, inspire love, inspire happiness.”
It’s complicated.

lower right. “I chose this compositional framework because Polaroids are so nostalgic to me. Before phone cameras, you could take a Polaroid and get instant gratification with the result,” he stated. “And they were fun, these little machines. The noise of the film rolling out, anyone old enough knows that noise. And I always wrote something on the bottom, where your thumbs went. So It all made sense for me.”
Marketing Manhattan’s signature properties takes an eye for Design,
SERHANT’S LOY CARLOS
Loy Carlos doesn’t market a property, he contextualizes it. Inspired by editorial photoshoots and magazine-style storytelling, Carlos says that he’s reinventing property sales, and realizing record deals for his clients in the process.
It is an approach that has solidified his involvement with ultra-high end properties such as the newly listed triplex penthouse at 217 West 57th Street, which is listed at $250 million.
“Luxury is lifestyle,” says Loy, a 30-year industry veteran, who made headlines when he left
Corcoran’s top team to lead Serhant’s “Signature” division, which handles the firm’s most exclusive properties. “So it’s important to create a unique brand identity for each property that tells a story about the specific lifestyle it offers.”
To create that narrative, he works with Serhant’s in-house ID Lab and Serhant Studios to design a one-off “identity” for a listing or a building, where everything from the fonts, color schemes, background imagery, custom websites, property tours, editorial films, and email look-and-feel are dreamed up.
Instead of blasting a property across social media platforms, they consider where that property belongs. Some properties might shine on TikTok, while some belong exclusively on Instagram. Others deserve more refined exposure in luxury broadcast, print or digital media — think specialty publications that cater to art, private jets, yachting, fashion and jewelry scenes.
Moreover, they don’t take the usual canned listing photos you see on real estate portals. They style the property like a cover model and bring it to life with video, music, art direction, and people.
Taking a targeted approach and taking the time to tell a story about a property, Carlos says, creates “drama, depth, narrative richness,” and even sometimes “funky, cute humor.” The cherry on the top?
“For each of our Signature listings, we create a custom book,” says Carlos, who studied journalism at New York University and runs a lifestyle magazine with a global following. “It’s painstaking. The whole process is, but it's the only way that you can express the level of luxury that a property offers to a buyer, in much the same way you differentiate ready to wear from haute couture, or in-season from last season.”
“It may not look like it from the outside, but a lot of New York’s best properties have sold or are selling for far less than they should,” Carlos says, who is currently listing a $29.5 million townhouse at 7 Sutton Square and $25 million penthouse at 993 Fifth Avenue. “That’s because a lot of brokers push their clients to settle for less… just get it out there and hope for the best. But the last three deals I closed have all broken city records. That’s the power of an editorial approach to real estate. From cave men drawings to today’s social media, we’re constantly reminded that storytelling is essential in communicating our idea of home.”

Argentinian-born Fashion designer, Victor dE Souza debuted his 2023 Spring/Summer collection, Liminality A Threshold during New York Fashion Week 2022, orchestrated by SohoMuse, JEZ Magazine and Live Rocket. This season’s collection, which implements myriad elements of Classical Distortion, is an expansion and evolution of the Fall 2022 collection, shown digitally in February, celebrates the past and dE Souza’s commitment to the tradition of haute couture. Nineteenth century patterns are skillfully / artfully intermixed with modern silhouettes, crisp pleating, and luxurious billowing fabrics to create a collection that is both modern and romantic.
Victor dE Souza is a New York-based fashion designer who creates timeless and artful pieces that are meticulously made. The Victor dE Souza product line is focused on formal couture wear, & beauty. Each piece is thoughtfully produced and has hand detailing. Using high quality materials and hand-designed patterns which are measured and graded by the designer himself, dE Souza consciously minimizes wasted materials and produces his pieces in New York. Each piece is a work of art that is designed to last, and to be passed down from one generation to the next.
SohoMuse, “the trusted source for creative professionals” co-founded by Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin, seventh generation heiress of shipping and railroad tycoon Cornelius Vanderbilt, in collaboration with Jez & LiveRocketStudios, attracted a ‘swelligent’ crowd to “Ignite The Runway’ which was presented in this “salon noire” which featured two circular staircases which proved to be a magnificent backdrop for this innovative manipulation of Fashion, Music & Art & Tech, succinctly woven into a tapestry of visual eye candy whereby each fashion designer & performer was introduced by their beautiful muse and Hostess of the evening (ala-Moulin Rouge), Consuelo Vanderbilt Costin (herself a Billboard Recording Artist) who dawned their creations as she introduced musical performances interspersed between each designer’s debuting of their micro-collections for SS23.
VICTOR
Discussing the creative forces driving Liminality A Threshold, Victor commented, “This season’s collection is informed by the structural elements of classical furniture and upholstery which are then loosened to create structured silhouettes that breathe and move. During this period of cultural and societal change, I want to create pieces that are comfortable/comforting and timeless.”
Each piece is built up, remixed, and distorted to create a new iconic style that presents itself as a threshold to new beginnings.
