Aspen is the epicenter of nature and beau tiful things that admirers from around the world visit each year. One of its truest ad vocates is Paula Crown, who resides part time in the Colorado town and who is deeply connected with one of the most be loved ski resorts in the world. Her inspira tion regarding art and design is palpable at the Little Nell, where corners of the build ing emanate her taste in art. She has also done collaborations with luxury brands in cluding Prada, and installations within the cultural realm of Aspen. Her studio here is also a symbol of refined taste, filled with conceptual art and wonderful colors.

This Q&A reflects her understanding of art and what truly inspires the artist, philan thropist and...

What brought you to the world of ART?

Curiosity about the world around me.

From the earliest age, my senses guided my understanding of space, form, and per ception.

How would you describe your environment

…?

amidst the aspen trees, warm wind, and enveloping light. The majestic scale of the mountains is humbling. We are part of this environment and connected to each other, not separate from it.

Why is Aspen so special, at the moment, in the art world.

Not really sure. It has always been a deep ly creative place. Aspen’s history is de fined by vision and imagination about what is possible.

Where do you find inspiration?

When I pay attention. The sacred ground is always where you are standing. You seem to be a world traveler? How do you narrow what interests you in this global world of consumption that is so vast?

I am not sure that I do prioritize optimally. I have come to trust my instincts and experi ence. Simply, I try to honor what I pay atten tion to, and to what makes me feel nourished. We live in a world of fractured attention. I believe in slowing the roll and being present.

How do you decide and curate what happens at your atelier?

At the moment, exceptionally generous

It is essential to reduce distractions and to

do deep work. My interest is in ideas, and how to translate those to form. Art is a language, and the one I use to connect with others in a mutual conversation.

How do you integrate luxury brands in the complex process of combining consumer's taste for art and fashion?

Must be challenging........

My focus is on the creation of something that has the “x” factor. What truly adds value to a customer in look and comfort. How can a fashion brand push into performance? How can art redefine clothing and the human form? What materials combine technology and sustainability in ways that can benefit sportswear and equipment?

In Aspen, we are focusing on perfor mance and the long term. Fashion can guide us with trends and messages. The core product must deliver on quality and experience. We will look to cobrand with partners that can make our product au courant.

THE WHIMSICAL ROCASATT ART OF

How artist Romina Carvajal Satt is set to conquer new frontiers with her art

In the world of fast fashion and limited supply of resources in the textile industry, Romina Carvajal Satt a.k.a. Rocasatt is an enchanting addition to sustainability. The Chilean artist has been collecting strands usually sewn onto collages full of color and texture. The embroidery is applied to household linens, pillowcases, place mats, large pieces as well, which Rocasatt adopts onto a canvas, unloading an array of imagery in a very peculiar way. Be it two strands of floss, where the stitch over laps the previous stitch to one side forming a twisted line of stitching with the thread passing below the needle outlining shapes, Romina’s world is almost a metaphor of these threads which can be wild, but beau tiful.

Rocasatt’s world is certainly not common. She immersed herself in drawings at a very young age, capturing the visuals she was surrounded by in her native city, Santiago de Chile. Isolation and color have always characterized Chilean culture. Drama and suffering have been ingrained in the histo ry of Chile. But Romina has outlived the context of a political conflict marked by the right-wing oriented society of the Pi nochet era, and submerged herself in the beauty of nature. Her home is located at El Cajon del Maipo.

The arts were always a common thread in her upbringing. Her mother. an accom plished artist and singer, her father played

musical instruments. Her grandmother taught her how to sew. In the fantastical world of Rocasatt, cat figures, dragons, ani mals appear out of nowhere, she cannot stop drawing these whimsical figures, be it in a magazine or any piece of paper she finds.

As a single mother of four children, Roca satt had to endure hardship at a young age.

Dropping out of college to take care of four young boys, she experienced at an early age a life of challenges that enabled and maxi mized her potential as an artist. While Roca satt was raising her young boys, her grand mother helped her. In the meantime, she did performance art at nightclubs in Santi ago. It was at these venues where she de veloped some sort of a cult following in the

artistic world. “I had friends that would do performance art, it was so musical, interest ing, and theatrical. That became my envi ronment and that enriched my perception about art,” explained the 52-year-old artist who maneuvers different disciplines in the field of the arts.

The allegorical world of Romina consists of figures which dance around your head, and envelops you in a fantastical world of cats, dragons, animals, and monsters. Her aim will be to participate in art exhibitions as well as develop textile and wearable art.

Rocasatt is a name that will represent an al luring world of art, imagination, fantastical creations and the beauty that Romina Car vajal Satt touches everywhere she goes.

BETH CASEY LOVES ART Palm Beach resident

While at Finch College, my beloved Art His tory professor, Dr. Marshall Mount, asked me when I fell in love with art. My answer came easily. My cousin Sophie taught me to draw, and one Christmas, my mother gave me a gift from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. It was an orange book that opened to reveal little stamps depicting their art collection and a book let that explained each painting and each artist. I was enchanted. It was my favorite present. We lived in Northeastern Pennsylvania. New York was a four-hour drive away, but fortunate ly, my parents and my godmother brought me to the City often. After I had finished placing all the stamps in the book from the Museum, I became obsessed with the idea of going there. I was asked, “Bethie, would you like to go to see the Ringling Brothers’ Circus?”……….”No thank you. I want to go to see the Metropolitan Museum. I want to find my paintings.”

Little did my mother realize that her gift would begin a lifelong love of art that has lasted nearly 75 years. I see beauty in my garden, one of my flower arrangements, or a single orchid. Art is everywhere. We just have to take the time to see it. It’s in the line of a roof, an arch way, or a tile design.

What I loved best about Dr. Mount was that he taught us not just to look at a picture but to inter pret what we saw. There might be 25 of us in his class, but we all might see a painting in a slightly different way. He allowed us to explore our vi sions ….to tell our story. How often I have used

that! i.e. Dali’s Crucifixion in Glasgow brought me to tears. Beside it was a polychrome painted wooden statue of the Virgin and Child. She was holding a bowl of cherries. The delighted child was reaching for them, but I could see the pain in her eyes. The Crucifixion hung next to that statue. The meaning was clear to me. She knew the great sacrifice He would make.

Or, for example, I was studying “Ode to a Gre cian Urn” in English Literature one year. At the Met were the Greek vases that were represen tative of the meaning of the poem. No mat ter how hard he strived to get to his love, the distance between them remained the same. Wasn’t I lucky that I could walk from my col lege, a few short blocks, to find the perfect ex ample to use in my essay? I got an A!

The Metropolitan Museum is a treasure trove of paintings, sculpture, and furniture. And of course, being a girl, seeing the armor room, I could only imagine knights jousting in their ar mor for their lady love. My favorite time of year at the Met is Christmas when the Christmas tree is adorned with Baroque angels and their mag nificent crèche that tells a wonderful story.

This month, Art Bodega, is so very proud to dis play the art of a dear friend of mine from Chile.

I met Romina because she had stopped to play with my little Havanese, Lucy. I am a firm be liever that in life, there are no coincidences. She showed me some examples of her work. The rest is history.

In Romina’s art, her choices of color, technique

and style jumped out at me. I have never been so amazed by the creativity of an artist in such an unusual medium before. Some pieces are primitive. Some are whimsical. All of them come from Romina’s brilliant imagination. A little voice in my head said, “Stop! Pay attention!” She is amazingly unique and creative. I hope you will come to appreciate her work as well.

Today, no matter where I go, I love the museums like the Prado with Velasquez’s self-portrait, while painting the royal family, the Musee D’Orsay with its wonderful Sisley of a young woman standing in the breeze, the Turners at the Tate, the amazing art in stitutions in Scotland, or our own wonderful Norton Museum, here in West Palm Beach, with my favorite painting that is representa tive of beautiful American art, Ruby Green by James Chaplin. I play a game I always played with my godmother and my cousin Sophie…..pick one thing you would like to take home with you! Just imagine me trying to walk out of the Norton with my favorite painting! I think not! But I can visit her as often as I please and see the joy on her beau tiful face. While I’m at it, I can enjoy a deli cious lunch!

Surprise yourself. Don’t just walk through the Via Amore in Palm Beach. Sit there. Enjoy the sculptures, the bougainvillea and a copy of Art Bodega. Art is in the eye of the beholder. Art is everywhere. You just have to look.

MS RAU CELEBRATES YEARS IN NEW ORLEANS

Legendary New Orleans emporium M.S. Rau is one of North America’s most respected fine art, antiques and jewelry galleries. Bill Rau is the third generation to run the family-owned French Quarter gallery, which celebrates its 110thanniversary this year.

Considered one of the foremost experts on 18th- and 19th-century European and Amer ican antiques, fine art and jewelry, Bill Rau has worked in the family-owned gallery full-time since he was 21 years old, and part-time since the age of 14. After graduat ing from the University of Colorado in 1982 with a degree in Business, he returned to his hometown and began a highly successful career as one of the most respected industry experts and gallery owners today.

Upon taking the reins as President and CEO in 1995, Bill instituted improvements at M.S. Rau that have put him on top of a multi-mil lion dollar operation. Located in the heart of the historic French Quarter in New Orleans,

Sudhir Gupta

with more than 30,000 total square feet of showroom, M.S. Rau Antiques houses extraordinary collections of important works of fine art by Renoir, van Gogh and Monet, incredibly rare jewelry including natural colored diamonds and Burma rubies, and an array of breathtaking antiques typically found only in the most prestigious museums in the world.

A history buff with broad knowledge in many subjects, Bill Rau is able to reel off entertain ing stories about the wide variety of rare objects he has handled over the years. A collector in his own right, Rau normally does not ever regret selling something. “I get great joy out of buying something, and I get great joy out of selling it, finding a right home for it.”

Continuing the legacy is Bill’s daughter, Rebecca Rau, the fourth generation involved in the business. To mark the milestone, they plan a large exhibition of post-impressionist and impressionist art in October, in the 45,000 square-foot gallery.

In addition, they’ve approached a highly important jeweler to create a few special pieces of unique jewelry with extraordinary gems. “We don't make jewelry, we sell antique jewelry,” says Rau. “But these will be done in the old way of making jewelry, of high quality, with antique stones that you can’t buy in the marketplace, just a handful of 110th anniversary pieces that I hope will come out spectacular.”

WORLD’S BIGGEST COLLECTION OF FRAGRANCE BOTTLES RARE COLLECTION OF FACTICES EXHIBITIONS

Over the past 30 years, Sudhir Gupta amassed the world’s biggest collection of fragrance bottle factices - the large, exqui sitely crafted replicas of perfume bottles used for display in department stores.  De rived from the French word for ‘fake’, these artistic glass masterpieces were glamorous advertisements for the iconic fragrances they represented. Over time, factices became his passion, and in the ensuing years, any money he saved went to buying these special bottles. And now his collection has made it into the Guinness World Records as the world’s largest.

Among the highlights from his collection of more than 3,000 specimens are a rare 1920s Baccarat factice for the Caron fragrance Madame Alexander, estimated to be valued at $100,000, as well as a rare 1970s Estée Lauder Aliage factice.

An immigrant from India who came to New York to pursue graduate studies in engineer ing, Gupta was from a poor family. “I never had any aspirations; I was not going to clubs, I don't drink,” he says. “So, I spent my free time searching flea markets and old pharma cies for factices. I didn't have a car, so sometimes I had to go on the train and carry them home. Some days, I would just walk to make sure they wouldn’t get broken.”

It is Gupta’s dream to preserve the vestiges of the dying art of factices and to keep these pieces of history alive for new generations sof fragrance lovers. He has long wanted to share his collection with the public.

“I thought, ‘I want to open a gallery and bring my message to the people.’” His creative director, Mercedes Acosta, a jewelry designer, surprised him and created a “museum” to house the collection. Located in his store in Hackensack, NJ, the exhibition space houses a meticulously re-created interior of Lascoff Drugs, an Upper East Side institution that closed in 2012 after 113 years in business. VOGUE, HARPER'S BAZAAR, COSMOPOLITAN & ELLE

Photographer Udo Spreitzenbarth’s work has appeared on magazine covers around the world, including those of Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Cosmopolitan, Marie Claire and many more. His art photography has received international acclaim with a successful series of solo exhibitions in New York, Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, Shanghai, Beijing and Chicago.

During his 25-year career, the German-born New York-based photographer has turned his lens on many of the world’s iconic personalities, among them John Legend, The Jonas Brothers, The Beach Boys, Usain Bolt, the artist Christo, and the late Helmut Newton, whose work has been an inspiration.

“I’ve always loved Newton’s work, and I got to shoot portraits of him for a German maga zine while he was still alive,” Udo says. “That was amazing; he was one of my biggest idols.” Modern icons of the screen and catwalk he has also photographed included Meg Ryan, Salma Hayek, Tyra Banks and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

FOCUS ON FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY

Recently, Udo has been placing more focus on his art photography, which does include some of his artistic fashion work. He feels that the line between fashion photography and fine art is increasingly blurring, and looks to his idol, Helmut Newton, as inspiration.

“He's a very important art photographer for our times, but he was at the same time also a fashion photographer, and that never exclud ed itself,” Udo says. “Things are much more inclusive, and boundaries are more and more broken. People are very accepting and open to what art means or can be.”

With his exhibit this spring at Virgil Cather ine Gallery outside Chicago, he found that patrons were fascinated by his life and work in the celebrity world. “That's very important to collectors and art lovers, when they see a picture that interests them and you tell them the story, how it happened and why we did it and how it got created. Then they fall in love with the image even more.”

One hallmark of Udo’s work is that there is always a human being in the photo. “I was never as interested in still life or architecture. My forte is people and expressing emotions and feelings through people in my pictures.”

The Raymond Roussel Society is a not for profit educational organization dedicated to promoting and honoring Raymond Roussel and his work, as well as the promotion of culture and art inspired by Roussel.

The Society consists of a special team of creators, thinkers and artists profoundly impacted by Roussel who do not wish him to be forgotten. Notable members include: Miquel Barceló, Joan Bofill-Amargós, Thor Halvorssen, Hermes Salceda, Jan Svankmajer and Antoni Taulé. Michel Butor (1926-2016) and John Ashbery (1927-2017), were founding members and also headed the RRS.

The RRS is a point of contact for artists, thinkers and/or rev olutionaries who identify with Rousselian spirit. The Society brings together the avant garde of today, facilitating new syn ergies and connections like never before. The Society’s dream is to go beyond the mere gathering of this philosophically united diverse group. It wants to support and promote those who share Roussel’s spirit and vision, in all art forms. Its goal is to carry out fruitful activities which in addition to promoting

Roussel, also serve to create a funding base which will assist those artists and visionaries who might not otherwise have found support. Those who question the world around them and are not afraid of experimenting and challenging the standards and rules of society.

The Founder, Joan Bofill-Amargós

He develops his activity around painting and audiovisual, frequently addressing near fields as video art and perfor mance. His last work, the documentary The Hanging of Stuart Cornfeld (2022), could be representative of his spec trum of interest. This documentary feature about the trajec tory of a Hollywood producer contains, among others, paintings about various episodes from the life of the main character done by Bofill itself. His previous film, Ray mond Roussel: Le jour de gloire (2016), is a personal biogra phy of this figure, muse of Surrealism, illustrated with liter ary games, musicalized scenography and pictorial works in progress. Different pieces with the collaboration of artists as the painter Miquel Barceló or the filmmaker Jan Svankmajer place Bofill as a filmmaker interested in artistic creativity and in the search for new forms of visual expression.

He is the founder and president of the Raymond Roussel Society, a not-for-profit association whose mission is to pro mote Raymond Roussel and his work, as well as to encour age culture and art inspired by Roussel.

The Raymond Roussel Society Medal was designed by the Spanish artist Joan Bofill. The creation of this was the fruit of a collaboration between Joan Bofill, the jeweler and sculptor Enric Majoral and the pastry chef Jordi Roca, World’s best pastry chef 2014, (El Celler de Can Roca).

AN EQUESTRIAN LIFESTYLE

Locust Valley

The Solomou family, relatively new to the New York equestrian scene, have made themselves known for their dedication to animal causes. Helping animals is not new to this family. Since very early in her life, Mrs. Solomou was used to aid stray dogs, cats, and injured animals her father would bring home, from the family ranch, in Venezuela.

After learning about the terrible fate horses face in America, the Solomou family adopted Omega’s Mi rabella, whose mother was rescued while pregnant from an imminent death at a Pennsylvania kill pen. Today the family, work tirelessly to demand Con gress to finally join in a bipartisan effort to pass the “SAFE-Act”, stopping the pipeline of horses going to slaughter for human consumption in Canada and Mexico.

“Besides the peace that horses give to our lives, we have found a real family within the horse communi ty”, said Renata Solomou, matriarch of the Solomou family. With Maria pursuing a professional career under the guidance of Nationally acclaimed trainer Brooke Chasin, her other children, Gianni and Chris tina are learning to love horses from trainer Laurie Foster. Additionally, Mrs. Solomou’s dream is to be next to her dear friend, Brian Feigus, for him to com pete in his first Olympics.

Anirays is the founder of WEPAH, one of the most ex citing production companies in the entertainment and event planning industry in Miami. A talented artist herself, her personality exudes a wonderful myriad of colors and ideas reflected at the events she produces at the top tier houses in Miami. From large scale produc tions to intimate affairs -from Fisher Island to Key Bis cayne - WEPAH keeps expanding and tantalizing our senses in every major way possible.

Anirays when did you start WEPAH? In 2016 I was finish ing my master’s in fine arts when I got involved with different charities, including Big Brothers, Big Sisters, Fisher Island Day School, The Jackson Hospital, the New World Symphony, and others. Being part of the respective committees, I had the opportunity to orga nize events, invite friends, prepare lunches and dinners with potential donors. After I experienced the amount of work it required, I decided to develop a software that would help me facilitate all the information necessary to execute this type of events. That was the beginning of WEPAH.

What is your mission? I use the venues as a canvass of art. I want to submerge myself in the experience and let everyone who comes, enjoy it.

How do you prepare for this type of productions? It is a process that we’ve been polishing through the years. We initiate the planning with a “discovery meeting”. Later on, we assigned a planner that will focus on that specific event, be it a corporate event, a concert, a chil dren’s party, or even a wedding. We do research to cre ate a unique experience filled with details and unforget table visuals.

You are considered one of the top production companies in event planning in Miami. Tell us why? I believe WEPAH has a very professional team, with extensive expe rience in the logistics that enable us to create a fastpaced event, while we always tender to our client’s needs. Being punctual is a must, which sometimes is

72

Krystyna Lakien also loves to decorate. Her house in Miami Beach is her first designing house project which she planned from scratch, creating a residential marvel. Regarding her relationship with Anirays: “my charity fundraising event for “Miami Loves Ukraine” was the most meaningful for me, as Ukraine is my homeland and we were able to help so many families that are going through a horrific situation. I am forever grateful to Anirays for her immediate response when I called her. She truly has a heart of gold!”

challenging in Miami. We also strive to keep our client always informed, regarding the fi nancial expenses, the visual creation, the lo gistical and operational process. If the client desires to receive daily reports, we do that. Sometimes it is challenging to explain our customers the financial costs that an event can entail. It is important to explain them in detail, that way they feel really informed about the cost and what it entails.

What has been the most challenging produc tions for you? Sometimes the low budget productions can be truly challenging. Peo ple want a high impact event without the expense, and that can become a big prob lem. I try to explain the real cost. It can be time consuming to just explain the fact that great things, do come at a high price occasionally. We waste some precious time while doing this. Makes no sense. Also, when you work with friends, that do not perceive this as our job and a busi ness, they are just thinking it is just a party. Even though we’ve grown word of mouth through our close friends, the reality is we have learned through these experiences of dealing with the humans and their percep tion of what truly signifies a great experi ence. Thankfully these challenges have made our company grow, making us the top production enterprise in the most ex clusive communities like Fisher Island, Ga bles Estates, Key Biscayne, Golden Beach, South of Fifth in Miami Beach.

Talk to me about Krystyna? You seem to have a great friendship? Krystyna is one of the most optimistic, happiest, and personable wom en I know. She is full of love; she always has something positive to say in any situation. A mutual friend from Slovakia introduced us. Our first event together was for her daughter. She is the ideal client, understands the chal lenges of producing a party, and it’s just so nice and cordial to the staff. She is great.

You are an artist yourself. What influences you? Gurky without a doubt. I also love David LaChapelle. Christo and Jeanne Claude, not only because of the aesthetics but also the architectural planning, the social and political connotations. Truly impressive.

If you were stuck in a room by yourself with someone you truly admire. Who would it be? Queen Elizabeth II. I think she is the most interesting person in the world. I would ask her so many questions, for exam ple who she would admire, who had im pressed her and why.

The Ukranian beauty has been living in Miami for six years. She is versatile, adventurous, and very active. “One day you can see me wearing a gown at a charity event after a day filled with work related meetings and the next day you can see me hiking with my family exploring the wilderness or diving with sharks in the Galapagos.”

Melissa Callari and Dr. Gregg SzerlipWill take you toa space of serenity

Dr. Gregg Szerlip a Doctor of Osteopath ic Medicine and Melissa Callari, a Registered Dietitian own Serentiy Medical Consulting PLLC, a functional and regenerative medi cal practice in Locust Valley, NY. Together Dr. Szerlip, an anesthesiologist who has been at the forefront of pain management and opioid addiction medicine for almost 30 years and Melissa, a nutrition expert with over 20 years of experience, collaborate to provide each pa tient with the tools needed to improve their overall wellbeing. They marry years of highly specialized training with state-of-the-art testing, to ensure patients obtain a fully personalized experience.

Immediately, one is captivated when speaking to Melissa. The mother of one, has a vibrant personality with a firm stand on how we should protect our bodies from the constant stress and hazards of our modern life rhythms.

“Our collaboration started out of necessi ty. When Zakary, our son was born, we were faced with the challenges of having a child with ADHD. Standard practices in medicine and behavioral science were ineffective and we were driven to search for alternative methods to help positively impact his behavior, overall health, and the well-being of our family. Our research led us to very strategic testing and we examined everything from standard blood work to DNA, food sensitivity testing, micro nutrients and the microbiome. These results al lowed us to optimize his gut-brain axis through specific nutrition modifications and supple mentation. As a result, his behavior greatly im proved, and we were able to avoid him taking the medications that were being recommend ed by the classic medical model. It all starts with our genetics and what we put into our bodies” explained Melissa.

After applying these protocols to effective ly manage her family challenges, Melissa has come to realize how vital proper testing is in determining one’s nutritional needs. “It’s just so important. What is considered healthy for one person is not necessarily healthy for anoth er. For instance, one of my patients, a top Dis ney executive thought he was being proactive by drinking lemon water and consuming what he thought was a “healthy diet”. However, af ter testing for food sensitivities we were able to determine that he has a sensitivity to lemon and other typically “healthy foods”. By making very specific changes we were able to alleviate his joint pain and overall inflam mation. Doing so also allowed him to lose stubborn body fat and return to weightlifting. This is only one example of many patients we have treated and confirms that elements that we don’t realize we are sensitive to have unin tended consequences to both our physical and mental function.”

76

Dr. Szerlip adds, “towards the goal of optimizing one’s existence, one of the most important services provid ed by Serenity Medical Consulting PLLC, is bio-identi cal hormone replacement therapy for men and women. This type of treatment, especially for those beyond 40 years of age is vital and the results are simply remark able. There is not a single individual whom we have treated who has not felt a tremendous improvement in sleeping patterns, strength, mental acuity, and the best part of all, increased libido!

Melissa explained, “Food is our first line of medicine and when we test to uncover what is best for each per son, there are long term implications that can drastically improve the quality of your life. It only takes one test to know what we can consume, what can make us health ier, and what we can achieve in life with an optimized body and mind.”

Serenity Medical Consulting, PLLC embodies the “mar riage” of both experts in their respective fields. Together, they guide patients as they embark on their own person alized journey to wellness. These two practitioners com plement each other and are ever evolving with the focus of maximizing everyone’s potential. “Through years of professional and personal experience, we realize every patient has vastly different needs. That is why we test, we don’t guess. We are fortunate to work with highly spe cialized laboratories that service patients throughout the country, making the services widely available.”

Bonnie Lautenberg: Art Meets Hollywood

Complementing Art of the Hollywood Backdrop is an exhibition of photographs by Bonnie Lautenberg who pairs iconic artworks with stills from Hollywood movies released the same year the artwork was made. Her process is intuitive; she finds images that “speak to each other” in ways that disrupt the way we experience both the film and the artwork. She sometimes chooses the artwork first and searches for a connection to that year’s film or reverses the process to find an artwork that relates to the movie. Lautenberg, who is known for her photographs of individuals and events from the worlds of politics and the arts began this series in 2017 and continues to work on it. “THE PENDULUM IS SWINGING TO NON-INVASIVE PROCEDURES”

Very few plastic surgeons are as com mitted as Dr. Michelle Zweifler.

Since she was an adolescent, Dr. Zweifler fell in love with plastic sur gery. Not even 16 years old, she had plastic surgery herself, something she was enamored of to the level of being asked by the nurses to reassure other young patients at the hospital.

But now she is reinventing herself with the advances of medical inventions in the beauty industry. The new trends had upended the non-invasive processes of a new culture we live in today’s world.

From her Fifth Avenue office, which is in one of the most prestigious areas in Manhattan, Dr. Zweifler welcomes you with her youth ful look and she is committed to her practice. She has a special folder with before and after images of women whose breast were deflated and deformed, and the beautiful results she had brought to these women.

“Breast implants are game changing, and it brings such a positive outcome, especially when done naturally,” confessed the brunette who hails from Long Island.

All her life has been established in New York, including her studies at Cornell Uni versity, her General Surgery Residency at Lenox Hill Hospital, and her Plastic and Re constructive Surgery Residency at the State University of New York Health Science Cen ter at Brooklyn in New York. But there was a brief period in her life where she trained in San Francisco. “Here I learned through extensive training that women wanted a nat ural approach to plastic surgery. Who wants to be known for having plastic surgery? No one!” admits Dr. Zweifler.

“Two things happened during the pandemic. We started having zoom meetings, we started looking at ourselves all the time. Realizing that maybe we needed some more work on

our faces. It was a self-awareness that didn’t exist before. We just had the mirror, now we were looking at ourselves while looking at others as well in just one screen,” admits the doctor who also resides in Manhattan.

Dr. Zweifler has experienced a change in the demographics of patients as well. “Now they are in their 20’s. Yes, you see a bit of an obses sion with looking good. I still try to empha size the importance of looking natural. There are so many peels, I highly recommend Sof wave. The TCA peels get rid of the outside pigmentation as it goes deeper in the dermis and there is no downtime. It takes about 7 to

10 days to heal. Other methods can last one or two years. It all depends on the needs of an individual.”

For her, liposuction and skin removal with tightening are better procedures compare to more non-invasive options. This new gener ation is going back to facelifts as well. There has been a great advanced in technology, from superficial peels of the epidermis to deeper TCA chemical peels, but the pendu lum is going back to non-invasive procedures.

“My approach is the girl next door. When you overdo the fillers, it doesn’t look natu

ral. The problem with waiting too long for plastic surgery is that the skin quality might not be that good. Some crow’s feet wrinkles can look cute, but if you wait too long, again, you will definitely see that the wrinkles will etched in, making it harder to control. When it comes to facelifts, the approach is to hide the incisions in the hair line, so it looks natu ral,” admits Dr. Zweifler.

“I just want to bring men and women to the way they were. Making them look younger will also have an impact in their inner beau ty and self-esteem.” Dr. Zweifler also plans to expand her practice in South Florida.

GALLERIST VICTORIA GOLEMBIOVSKAYA

HOUSE OF THE NOBLEMAN

One of the many things that makes NYC so special is that it draws those who are con stantly out to challenge themselves and bring new ideas and perspectives to the communi ty. Enter Victoria Golembiovskaya, who garnered attention and acclaim for her House of the Nobleman in London, an art advisory firm that produces exhibitions in landmark locations internationally. Her new energy manifests itself on the Upper East Side with C1760, the  modern and contemporary art department of Colnaghi, the world’s oldest commercial gallery, well known for Old Masters works.

ARTIST GETULIO ALVIANI

My first meeting with her was when I caught the tail end of Getulio Alviani’s exhibition of reflective aluminum works at the C1760 Townhouse. Alviani was important in the op-art era, hailed from Udine, Italy, the same hometown as Leo Castello. They were pals. It’s an attractive show with chromed and anodized pieces, some feeling like a carnival

house of mirrors. Alviani was big in the sixties and had some moments in the eighties, but despite important, critical work, time forgets things – until people step in with reminders.

INFLUENCES OF TIME

That brings us to my second meeting with Victoria and the summer exhibition at the Townhouse, titled Influences of Time based on Swiss Art Historian Heinrich Wolfflin’s “Kunstgeschichte ohne Namen” (Art History without A Name). We can get heavy with this but we won’t. All I’ll say is that if you are into geometric abstraction, this show is for you. My guidance counselor in high school once said that I ranked very high in special relations, so I held onto that praise and somehow latched onto this type of work from an early age, searching for signs and symbols. So, who is this woman? Victoria started working in the film industry in Moscow in the late nineties, where she was the manager of one of the biggest upcoming film stars. “It was a decisive chapter in my life at a time when Russia still had hope,” she says. “I realized that I was no longer able to function there, and I

wanted to do international projects.  Because all my friends were artists, it was natural for me to start doing projects with them.”

DAMIEN HIRST, BANKSY, ALEXANDER CALDER, YVES KLEIN & PABLO PICASSO

When she moved to London, Victoria worked on a formula for art-inspired projects between the arts, real estate, and luxury brands. In 2010 she got a big break when the developer of a beautiful mansion overlooking Regent's Park invited her to do a project, where each room of the house was to have a unique curated theme. The exhibition was a collaboration with real estate developers, luxury brands, designers and private collectors to show their works including Damien Hirst, Banksy, Alexander Calder, Yves Klein, Gerhard Richter, Pablo Picasso and Edouard Manet to name a few. This has been the first time that a luxury London residential property has been transformed into an exhibition on this scale and with works of such astounding historical significance. It was very well received and turned into a series of exhibitions. Now, House of the Nobleman has evolved from an art advisory to a private equity firm specializing in managing a spectrum of investments in the arts and creative industry.

MARINA ABRAMOVIC,VELÁZQUEZ & CHRISTO

In 2019, Victoria joined Colnaghi to restruc ture the Gallery and prepare it for future growth, then began to build the Gallery's Modern and Contemporary department, with projects from Dreamsongs: From Medicine to Demons to Artificial Intelligence, to Humble Works featuring Marina Abramovic with Velázquez, Christo’s wrapped Vespa motorcy cle, and so on.

During the pandemic, Colnaghi further restructured the company and decided for London to focus on Old Masters while New York focused on an immersive program bringing Modern & Contemporary art into conversation with Ancient and Old Masters.  This led to Colnaghi Gallery's launch of C1760.

“I want to bring quality and curiosity, some thing fresh and new, something compelling.  A combination between old and new art, and sometimes even design, which will be integrated into our 1880s townhouse of a Gal lery – interesting events, discussions, happenings – I see all of that existing in this space,” she states, brimming with confidence. Fall 2022 will present a group show of upcoming future stars and artists based in the Hamptons and NYC. c1760.art
