10 years of ArtCatto gallery. I cannot believe how quickly those years have flown by. From the moment we opened our doors in our beautiful old red building in the heart of Loulé, we have been lucky enough to achieve a level of success that I did not imagine possible. We would like to thank the brilliant artists that we represent. They are some of the most important international artists and we are honoured to be working with them. Also, a huge thank you not only to our loyal clients but also to everyone who makes the effort to come and see the artists and sculptors at both the gallery and at the Conrad Hotel. The hotel has been such a supporter of the gallery and we have enjoyed our special partnership. ArtCatto is excited to announce our new gallery space at The Lake Spa Resort Hotel in Vilamoura. We are now open and look forward to showing you some new incredible artists this year, at all our locations. Gillian Catto 2021

Andrew Kinsman Andrew is a craftsman artist, meaning that it is the labour intensive making and fabrication that is the vital component. Here we have a painter who is as confident with a brush as he is with a saxophone. Both are instruments and tools in the hands of an artist who strives for perfection and harmony, as he says, ‘my goal is to make living art’.

Cristina Bergoglio Cristina uses a diverse range of media to find a unique perspective of the urban landscape, she explains: “The urban phenomenon fascinates me for being a living organism, mutable, indecipherable. It is the place of attachments and addictions, where the essence of the human ego sleeps under many disguises of passion. I like to capture the chaos and cosmos of each element”.

Craig Alan Alan’s works run the gamut from abstract expressionism to haunting, graphic realism, each one a reflection of its creator’s unique vision. His prolific career is a culmination of textbook artistic knowledge and keen aesthetic sense, one developed not through intensive schooling but deep within recesses of this artist’s brilliant mind. He has established himself as a singular voice in the visual arts industry.

Dom Pattinson Urban and street art is his genre for communicating his own form of gentle parody and satire. His work is full of subversive humour, at times giving a nod to Warhol with his use of repetition, replacing icons with wild animals such as zebra and bears. He riffs on Hirst, mocking his motifs of skulls and butterflies with added comedy glasses. Text also comes into play, raw and witty straight from the can.

Gustavo Fernandes In Gustavo’s work stand out objects, landscapes, people and details that give to his work a real hyper-realistic touch. The image is crisp, the palette saturated and the composition carefully controlled. Gustavo refines his work to such a high degree that it’s impossible not to be drawn into the imagery.

James Mylne James Mylne, was born in London in 1981. He’s a contemporary artist known for his drawings in ballpoint pen. His technical abilities with the unorthodox art medium have earned Mylne recognition worldwide. The artist’s photorealist likenesses of iconic celebrities attracted early media attention and continues to be one aspect of his output. Mark Evans A childhood desire to play with knives and a penchant for carving into tree bark inspired Mark Evans to create large-scale micro-sculptures from leather as an adult. Working with blades and knives of varying thickness, Evans carves photorealistic scenes, symbols, and figures into pieces of leather.

Pedro Guimarães Guimarães’ background in design and his interest in the ‘science of seeing’, led him to create ‘three-in-one’ optical portraits. The multiple angles viewpoint allows the artist to create a clever narrative within the work. Pedro is a master of these startling optical effects and the use of alternative materials that relates to the subject matter as part of the artistic process.

Alain Bertrand Alain’s rich illustrative style moves us through the decades, at times representing the 40’s or 50’s in monochrome, like a glimpse from a newsreel. Then switching to glorious technicolour as we enter into the 60’s and 70’s. One moment we are placed at the heart of a swinging Jazz band, the next street level in the thick of yellow cabs, honking horns and brilliant illumination.

Colin Fraser Colin works in egg tempera. A medium used by the likes of Michelangelo that originates from the Middle Ages, egg tempera is a time-honoured method whereby powdered pigment is mixed with egg yolk and water. Using egg tempera is extraordinarily time-consuming. Every square inch of the surface must be constructed little by little, layer by layer. The paint dries instantaneously and unlike oils, cannot be manipulated.

Mario Henrique Mario Henrique is a prolific portraitist and is fascinated by the unpredictability of human behaviour: the brief glances, the impermanence of facial expressions, the sudden movements. Mario paints abruptly and spontaneously, so that the physicality of the painting process is transparent in the final piece.

Shen Ming Cun Shen Ming draws his inspiration from the ancient traditions, crafts and culture of the tribes of the Miao, Yao and Dong of the remote Guang Xi region. Each tribe has a quite unique tradition in dress and adornment from the other. The young girls sew everything entirely by hand and their jewelry is crafted in the village.

Voka Voka is truly unique, his passion and his style are outstanding. He coined the expression “Spontaneous Realism” which suits his work perfectly, as we get a sense of dynamic application and the speed of process, yet he manages to capture the essence of places and people. The vibrancy of his palette is quite startling.

Jürgen Lingl Jürgen’s own personal style is powerfully apparent in the passion and animation which shines through every single piece of work, both on wood and bronze. Nimrod Messeg Nimrod developed his personal and direct artisan method of sculpting iron. He uses ancient forging techniques, welding, power hammering, the plasma torch, etc, which enable him to create textures, shapes and effects that give his sculptures a unique style and apperance. These methods permit him to take this brutal metal and transform it into something beautiful, gentle, light, curvaceous...even soft.

Anneke Bester Anneke predominantly celebrates the human form in highly expressive poses telling the story of each piece with strong movement. Jonty Hurwitz Jonty Hurwitz is a unique artist. He fuses art and science in an extraordinary way. His sculptures are comprised of perspex, steel, resin and/or copper and are fabricated using over a billion computer calculations and complex algorithms. The resulting pieces are anamorphic which rely on scans of familiar forms, such as hands, faces and even frogs, they are hand painted and distorted, then when placed in front of a cylindrical mirror, the object reveals itself precisely and anatomically correct.
