PARTNER EXHIBITIONS JULIUS BAER: A JOURNEY DRAWN THROUGH AN ARCHAEOLOGY OF THE PRESENT Swiss Private Banking Group, Julius Baer, has commissioned Chourouk Hriech, a French emerging artist of Moroccan origin, to create and curate A Journey Drawn Through an Archaeology of the Present. The exhibition features three almost fable-like site-specific artworks, sometimes retro futuristic, sometimes timeless, that transport the audience through the unexpected strata of an archaeology of the present. Drawing a bridge between Switzerland and Dubai as a reflection of Julius Baer’s growth story, Chourouk Hriech’s dense and generous dynamic of lines in motion allow geographies and improbable stories to meet. Location: Julius Baer Lounge BMW ART CAR COLLECTION BMW Group Middle East brings one of its BMW Art Cars to Art Dubai for the very first time: the 1989 BMW M3 group A racing version. It was created by Ken Done, a significant painter on the Australian continent. In his signature lively colours and brush strokes he reflects the vitality of his homeland. Alongside the car is an exhibition in miniature form of all Art Car commissions allowing guests to discover the heritage and history of the BMW Art Car project which, since 1975, has involved renowned artists including Alexander Calder, David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Frank Stella and Andy Warhol. Location: Between Foyer 1 and 2 PIAGET: THE ART OF GOLD Returning to Art Dubai for its fourth year, Piaget presents L’Art de L’Or (The Art of Gold): an exhibition dedicated to the work of gold, the ultimate expression of the Maison’s craftsmanship. The curated selection of high-jewellery and watches will be complemented by an installation by French Maître d’Art Pierre Bonnefille. Location: Piaget Exhibition HIPA: TOLERANCE, HAS HISTORY From the Private Collection of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of the Executive Council and Patron of the Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA), Tolerance, Has History presents an exhibition which presents a compelling visual narrative of the tolerant and cooperative nature of the region’s social fabric in the 1960s and 1970s; the values on which the United Arab Emirates was built. The photographs are part of a rare collection belonging to His Highness the Crown Prince of Dubai and take visitors on a journey through time. Location: HIPA Exhibition

PROGRAMME ART DUBAI COMMISSIONS: SOLAROCA Renowned Brazilian artist collective OPAVIVARÁ! have created SOLAROCA, an interactive, site-specific work at the heart of the fair, mixing Brazilian and Middle Eastern elements to serve as the backdrop for visitors to mingle and invite an intercultural dialogue. Location: Fort Island GLOBAL ART FORUM Global Art Forum 2019 focuses on the urgent challenges and opportunities facing education today. Entitled “School is a Factory?” the 13th edition of the transdisciplinary summit is programmed by editor, writer and art historian Victoria Camblin and curator and writer Fawz Kabra, as Co-Directors, who will feature alongside an eclectic roster of guest speakers. Global Art Forum is supported by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. See the full schedule from page 13 Location: Art Dubai Talks Space, Mina A’Salam ART DUBAI MODERN SYMPOSIUM: CULTURAL HUBS OF MODERNISM The Art Dubai Modern Symposium maps out the cultural shifts and trends instigated by modernity in 4 key cities in the Middle East and South Asia that were main drivers of change and action during the 20th century. Renowned curators, scholars and patrons present 4 lectures, each focusing on a different city: Baghdad, Beirut, Lahore and Dakar. See the full schedule from page 13 Location: Art Dubai Talks Space, Mina A’Salam CAMPUS ART DUBAI Campus Art Dubai (CAD) is the first and only programme of its kind in the UAE; the intensive six-month seminar and residency programme provides Emirati and UAEbased artists with the opportunity to develop their practices under the mentorship of world renowned tutors and to showcase their work at Art Dubai. The CAD 7.0 exhibition features the works of Dima Srouji, Augustine Paredes, Jumairy and Mohamed Khalid, who underwent a rigorous six-month seminar and residency programme to develop concepts around CAD 7.0’s theme that questions the role of artists and artist communities within the city. The exhibition brings to life the initial 12

research done highlighting questions, experiments and realisations found through the introspection realised during the months leading up to the exhibition. The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority is the Strategic Partner of Campus Art Dubai. Campus Art Dubai is supported by Fondazione Cultura e Arte. Location: Hall 3, Mina A’Salam UAE NOW Curated by Munira Al Sayegh, UAE NOW is a new segment of Art Dubai exploring the country’s independent local artist-run platforms. These collectives and community groups offer a crucial counterpoint to the public and commercial sectors and add an essential layer to the local contemporary art ecosystem. UAE NOW highlights the depth in these organisations and their place in the evolving landscape, bringing to the fore the important contribution of grassroots platforms and the underground in creating new ways of thinking, theory and artistic movements. Location: Hall 3, Mina A’Salam SHEIKHA MANAL LITTLE ARTISTS PROGRAM: CREATING NEW WORLDS The Sheikha Manal Little Artists Program features lead artist Sally Curcio for its 2019 edition. Creating New Worlds invites children to explore cityscapes and re-imagine urban landscapes through the use of miniatures and prototypes. The workshops motivate invention, cooperation, new perspectives, and exploration of how different materials can be composed to create new imagined environments. See the full schedule from page 13 Location: Water Terrace ITHRA ART PRIZE Now in its second edition, the Ithra Art Prize launched by the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture (Ithra) and in collaboration with Art Dubai, was introduced as a means to fund, promote and offer Saudi and Saudi-based artists a global platform. This year’s winning proposal, Sawtam, by London-based Dania Al Saleh, is a virtual simile of wind chimes displayed in a digital immersive installation which premieres at Art Dubai before joining the Ithra collection. Location: Foyer 1 PERFORMANCES The performance programme for the 2019 edition of Art Dubai, developed by contemporary art institution Kunsthalle Lissabon, is a celebration of togetherness. Through a series of performances taking place during the fair, it explores the unifying aspects of people gatherings, such as dances, processions and festivities. These 13

kinds of communal celebrations are not only a chance to have fun, but they are also powerful tools to think about the world around us. Through bright colour, engaging movement and music, the spectator and participator join in the moment to let go and enjoy themselves, whilst also experiencing a new way of understanding. The performances will feature carnival artist Marlon Griffith with a version of his A Walk into the Night and Samson Young’s Muted Situation #2: Muted Lion Dance, which reimagines the traditional Chinese lion dance. See the full schedule from page 13 ART DUBAI AFTER DARK Taking place on Fort Island after the fair opening hours, Art Dubai After Dark provides a different music offering throughout the week for guests to experience alternative themes to the fair’s after parties. Tuesday and Wednesday’s evening programmes are curated by independent online radio station NTS Radio, the lineup for which mirrors the fair’s programming focus on the Global South. UAE-based platform Female First Sessions takes over Art Dubai After Dark on Thursday night in collaboration with Satwa 3000, presenting a mix of local and International DJs. The renowned local night, WVY by HRMNY, takes place at the fair on Friday evening and focuses on hip hop amongst other music genres. Location: Fort Island
