REENCUENTRO JOSE LUIS SELIGSON
GABRIEL ALVAREZ
After many years, they met again. Jose Luis and Gabriel met for the first time in medical school in Mexico, and exhibited together at the “Muestra de Difusion Cultural” at the National Autonomous University of Mexico. They continued their medical training; Jose Luis in the USA and Gabriel in England. They continued painting and exhibiting, and in 2017 they found each other through art.
Now Jose Luis is a Psychiatrist in New York and Gabriel, a Plastic Surgeon in London.
“Being a doctor in the art world is an unfortunate badge to wear inferring part time commitment.”
They both agreed that they are not just another doctor that paints; they are dedicated, exhibited and selling artists”.

Reencuentro shows the similarities of thought in their works; they show their concern about the calamities that affect the world today.
Gabriel told us:
‘I would like to paint something happier, but in a way, I would be ignoring the suffering of thousands of people at this time”.
We hope that these works of art are a symbol of this era and transcend time.”

PROJECTS
Jose Luis includes three projects in Reencuentro; “Huevos”, “Caras de Covid” and “La Lucha”. He tells me that he never plans his works, this allows his subconscious to paint hidden images .
Jose Luis’ projects are fluid, but at the end the thoughts merge into a conclusion. He talks to us about plague and struggle but also about a new beginning on the “Eggs” project. “Eggs” talks to us about a new generation and a new origin bringing hope.
I always have trouble describing my work because I never have a plan when I start. It just evolves as I work on it and then I add a title that kind of fits in a “Rorschach” way.

It is interesting to note that Jose Luis’ work resonates with public feeling, and not surprisingly, also with Gabriel’s work.

JOSE LUIS SELIGSON
Born and raised in Mexico City. Living in the United States (New York) since 1972.
Began taking art lessons at age 13 in Mexico City at Arthur Kronengold’s Studio. Subsequently, Studio Art at The Atelier CDI , Jose Enrique Rebolledo Studio, and Instituto Kairos until 1971.
Oscar Muzio Studio in Miami in 1972-73. It was under the tutelage of Maestro Jose Enrique Rebolledo that Jose began experimenting with different media. He has worked mostly in the Abstract Expressionism style and dabbled in Abstract, Pop Art and Surrealism. Influenced by Mexican Colorists, his work is more focused on color and texture than form. He created a significant body of work influenced by Joseph Cornell during the late 90’s, but his main Artistic Influences have been Pablo Picasso, Pedro Friedeberg, Jose Manuel Schmill, Carlos Merida, Jose Luis Cuevas and Gunther Gerszo. Over the past 40 years his work has evolved significantly, but, color and texture remain his main focus.
For the past year, encouraged by Gabriel’s knowledge and deftness with digital media, he has been working using digital elements in combination with his own photography and illustrations.
Like Gabriel, Jose insists he is not a Doctor that paints, but an Artist who also practices Medicine. In his case, Psychiatry.

PROJECTS
Gabriel brings three projects to the exhibition: “Ayayay”, “I am Leaving” and “Our Time (Confusion)”
The Ayayay project is based on a screaming man crying about the actual problems that we face in this world; climate change, injustice, war, fake news and the aesthetic value of art.
“I am Leaving” (Red)
I am Leaving Project
The I am Leaving project is about people fleeing, escaping hunger, injustice and death. It also talks to us about the feelings of these people when their escapes are thwarted.
Our Time Confusion project is a rhapsody of different works in video and still images that show the actual mood of the world, but in contrast with Jose Luis the outcome gives no hope, just a warning.

GABRIEL ALVAREZ
Gabriel Alvarez is influenced by the colours of his native Mexico, personal experiences, and subconscious thoughts. Born and raised in Mexico City, he became a painter at an early age. He subsequently moved to London, where he has now lived for almost 40 years. Gabriel trained with the distinguished Mexican artist Castro Pacheco in Mexico City and has been inspired and influenced by Tamayo, Appel, Kokoschka and Rothko. Throughout Gabriel’s art career, he has exhibited at many respected galleries, beginning in the Diffusion Cultural at the Autonomous University of Mexico. He first showcased his vibrant and emotive paintings. His first solo exhibition in London took place at Etty’s Gallery in central London, followed by another at Mary McGowan’s, Leighton House, and The Santa Fe Gallery. “Transition” was his third exhibition at the Coningsby Gallery. Now, he is a retired plastic surgeon. Gabriel insists he is an artist and not only a doctor that paints. Through the decades, his paintings have reflected his desires, memories and dreams. His latest solo physical exhibition, “Transition”, marked a new phase in his artwork, exploring darker avenues and styles with brooding colours and figures.
Gabriel’s style has evolved with time, using more digital elements in video, 3D and image manipulation that he acquired when writing and illustrating electronic medical books;
namely “Multimedia Course in Minor Surgery” on the Apple Book Shop. He further developed his digital skills developing software for his company GMED Plus Ltd.
Now he is happy that he can exhibit and sell digital art in all its guises.

ABOUT We curate, exhibit and promote new art in all its production, media, and delivery forms. We aim to discover and nurture new talent. We believe that the artist is the axis of this industry, and Artelectrico strives to protect and guide new artists to produce exceptional art.
Background
Artelectrico was founded in 2021 by three medical doctors that share enthusiasm about new art. Two of these doctors are also exhibited Mexican artists with a unique talent. We hope to create an equally enthusiastic audience for the artists on our stable. We are confident that the art we represent is exceptional and has a significant aesthetic and social value.
We are open to discussion and constructive criticism; we will try to listen to our critics and supporters with equal interest and implement beneficial changes for the artists and the gallery.
Artelectrico is fully inclusive of all art styles, physical art on any media, and digital art.
We believe that it is essential to discuss the inclusion of NFTs (Non Fungible Tokens) in our collection. We are aware of the excessive consumption of energy in the production of cryptocurrency; this process is called “Mining”.
Although the mining of these currencies is carbon-intensive, the “Minting” (production of the NFT) is only 1% of the total amount of mining.
We are exploring different NFT markets. Currently, our artists are using OpenSea that utilises Lazy-Minting that only mints the artwork when it is sold and not when the artist submits it. We have applied to other markets like Nifty that promised to become carbon neutral in a few months.
We are looking forward to selling NFTs that are carbon neutral. In the meantime, Using OpenSea “Lazy-Minting”, no carbon will be produced until the pieces are sold.
Our Artworks
Artelectrico exhibits art that we really like and want to share. We specialise in contemporary physical and digital art. Our exhibitions contain prints of digital art, original works in all media and also NFTs. In some instances, we offer an NFT with an accompanying physical signed and number print. All the NFTs are minted by the artist, and we don’t sell them directly, we only curate them and provide a link to find the work on the NFT market.
All our prints are produced in short editions and they are signed and numbered by the artist.
We also believe that art should be affordable; therefore, our prices are carefully regulated.
