CUT WASTE OF DE PLOEG By the initiative to save one week of waste from the cutting leftovers of the orders a lot of information was revealed to De Ploeg textile designers. The designers planned to reuse the valuable cut-waste but first they made a little inventarisation. KNIPAFVAL VAN EEN WEEK Door het initiatief een week “knipafval” te verzamelen werden De Ploeg ontwerpers verrast door de hoeveelheid waardevolle stof die na een week orders knippen als afval achter bleef. De ontwerpers werken aan hergebruik van het knipafval, maar eerst een inventarisatie van informatie die de berg stoffen opleverde.

REUSE OF (CUTTING) WASTE AT DE PLOEG! Durable quality obtains a second lease of life! Because even wearproof Ploegfabrics produce cut waste, our designers have started recycling waste material into new textile products. One week of waste from cutting Ploegfabrics for customer orders: Starting off in a small way often means recognising the core of a problem so our designers started collecting and analysing Ploegfabrics cutting waste. In one week: in the cutting waste alone, the designers counted more than 50 pieces of cloth measuring at least a square metre. This included Trevira curtain fabric, woven stripes, printed patterns, pure wool upholstery fabric and felt. The waste container was a mine of information about what fabrics had been cut, but also a treasure chest of material to work with! The cutting waste was used to develop new products together with other designers! MADE TO LAST: HERGEBRUIK (KNIPAFVAL) VAN DE PLOEG! Blijvende kwaliteit: goed voor een tweede leven! Omdat ook de onverslijtbare Ploegstoffen knipafval achterlaten, hebben de ontwerpers van Ploegstoffen een begin gemaakt met het hergebruiken van afvalmateriaal tot nieuwe textielproducten. Knipafval van 1 week Ploegstoffen knippen voor klantorders: Klein beginnen is vaak ook de kern van een probleem zien, dus begonnen de ontwerpers met het verzamelen en analyseren van het knipafval van De Ploeg. In een week: Alleen aan knipafval telden de ontwerpers meer dan 50 lappen van minstens een vierkante meter. Daarin vonden ontwerpers Trevira gordijnstof, geweven strepen, drukdessins, puur wollen meubelstof en vilt. De afvaldoos was een schat aan informatie wat er geknipt was, maar ook een schat aan materiaal om mee te gaan werken! Samen met andere ontwerpers worden nieuwe producten ontwikkeld van dit knipafval! DE KERN VAN VAKMANSCHAP Alles begint met denken en dan doen. Het begint met ideeën van ondernemers en designers met passie. De mooie dikke stofrollen liggen in een houten met de hand gemaakte opstelling. De opstelling op zich is bijzonder: een, door ploegontwerpers ontworpen, eiken houten constructie vormt een kast. Dat stukje vakmanschap is intensief en met aandacht door ontwerpers bedacht en gemaakt, materiaal en vakmanschap precies zoals de stoffen worden ontwikkeld.

NEW UPHOLSTERY FABRICS QUALITY, MADE TO LAST
NIEUWE MEUBELSTOFFEN Kwaliteit, gemaakt om te blijven In 2012 introduceert De Ploeg meubelstoffen ‘Nevada’, ‘Andes’ en ‘Coll’ en de stoffen ‘Kust’, ‘Strand’, ‘Duin’ en ‘Kalk’ winter 2012/13. Inspiratie en look: Natuur & Pure craft material. Nomaden, kelims, gobelins en vintage authenticiteit. Nieuwe Ploegstructuren Strand / Duin / Kalk / Kust ‘Strand’: een natuurlijke stof waar grassen, helm en zegge inspiratie zijn. De matte iets wat linnenlook sluit aan bij het gebruik van natuurlijk materiaal in het interieur. ‘Duin’: intense kleuren gemengd met natuurtinten in een bobbeling (ook wel bouclé genoemd). Gestructureerd garen zorgt voor de bekende Ploeg oppervlakken, uitgesproken De Ploeg structuurstof. ‘Kust’: grove, dik vervilte wol in stevige, stoere structuur geweven. Uitermate hoogwaardige uitwerking van ‘n wollen structuurstof. ‘Kalk’: in samenwerking met Hella Jongerius werkte De Ploeg aan een nieuwe stof gebaseerd op vintage ploegstof ‘Daphna’. Deze bontgeweven veelkleurige puur wollen structuurstof is speciaal ontwikkeld voor de nieuwe inrichting van het VN gebouw door Nederlandse architecten en ontwerpers. Deze stof is nog niet verkrijgbaar. Wol Een groot deel van De Ploeg meubelstoffen zijn gemaakt van wol. De stof is geschikt voor zeer zwaar gebruik, dus geschikt voor consument en project. Wol is een duurzaam materiaal en heeft specifieke eigenschappen zoals herstellend vermogen, vuilafstotend, makkelijk te reinigen, antistatisch, isolerend en zelfdovend.
Upholstery fabric: Duin De Ploeg introduced the ‘Nevada’, ‘Andes’ and ‘Coll’ upholstery fabrics in the spring of 2012 and has the ‘Strand’, ‘Duin’, ‘Kalk’ and ‘Kust’ fabrics lined up to follow in the winter of 2012/13.
De stoffen van De Ploeg staan voor hoogwaardig vakmanschap en kwaliteit. Bijzonder door onderzoek in ontwikkeling van techniek, kleurbeeld en materiaal gebruik. De Ploeg stelt zich ten doel scherp te denken over duurzaamheid en duurzaam ontwikkelen. Zij investeren o.a. in het hergebruiken van afvaltextiel en cradle to cradle werken.

De eigenschappen van De Ploeg meubelstoffen zijn door TNO getest. Deze eigenschappen worden vastgelegd in de specificaties op het etiket.
New De Ploeg textured fabrics Strand / Duin / Kalk / Kust ‘Strand’: a pure fabric inspired by grass, marram and sedge. The matt, slightly linen look is perfectly in keeping with the use of natural materials in an interior. ‘Duin’: intense colours of nature mixed together in a textured yarn with a knotted and curled appearance (also known as bouclé) to produce a distinctly textured fabric characteristic of De Ploeg. ‘Kust’: coarse thick matted wool in a sturdy, durable textured weave. Textured wool of the finest quality. ‘Kalk’: in collaboration with Hella Jongerius, De Ploeg worked on a new fabric based on our vintage ‘Daphna’ line. This woven multicolour pure wool textured fabric was specially developed for the new furnishings for the UN building by Dutch architects and designers. It is not yet available. Wool A large proportion of De Ploeg upholstery fabrics are made from wool. This material is suitable for extremely intensive use, which makes it ideal for home and office. Wool is durable and its recuperative strength, dirt-repellent, easy-to-clean, antistatic, insulating and the self-extinguishing properties make it an ideal upholstery fabric. De Ploeg fabrics stand for true craftsmanship and top quality and are the results of dedicated research into technological developments and the use of colour schemes and materials. De Ploeg is committed to renewability and sustainable development and invests in, for example, the reuse of textile waste and cradle-to-cradle processes. The properties of De Ploeg upholstery fabrics have been tested by TNO and are listed in the specifications on the product labels.
MY STORY When De Ploeg asked to tell “your personal De Ploeg Story” the reactions were overwhelming. De Ploeg selected 12 people which were filmed telling their story: The film ”De Ploeg: my story” is telling stories from different angles about present and past of De Ploeg. Mijn verhaal De Ploeg vroeg mensen hun verhaal over De Ploeg te vertellen. Uit een stroom van reacties selecteerde De Ploeg 12 mensen waarvan ze opnames maakten. Dit heeft geleidt tot de film ”De Ploeg: mijn verhaal”. Vanuit verschillende invalshoeken worden anekdotes over het verleden en heden van De Ploeg verteld.
CURTAIN FABRICS: NOORD & KORN
‘Mijn opa en oma, Joop Oversteegen en Antje Blokker, stonden aan de wieg van ‘De Ploeg’ in Bergeijk. Van 1923 tot 1930 waren zij de kartrekkers van landbouwcoöperatie ‘De Ploeg’ in Best. Daarvoor waren zij gevraagd, door het genootschap voor gemeenschappelijk grondbezit, die ook het geheel financierde. En verhuisden zij vanuit Velsen - Noord Holland naar Brabant. Op deze coöperatie woonden en werkten naar schatting 8 tot 12 mensen met hun kinderen en verbleven er altijd veel rondtrekkende gedachtengenoten. De woeste heidegrond werd door hen ontgonnen. Vanuit deze eerdere coöperatie ontstond het idee om meerdere ‘Ploegen’ te stichten en zo begon ‘De Ploeg’ in Bergeijk.’ Quotes uit email van Lucy Bathgate

Exposition & archives De Ploeg at Audax Textile museum Tilburg A Collection of National Interest The history, collection, samples, pictures, and documents of De Ploeg are archived by the Dutch textile museum in Tilburg. For the National Workgroup Design-archives this is marked as a company essential for the Dutch Cultural heritage. They refer to the collection as “A Collection of national interest” and consequently provide a subsidy for the archive work to the museum. De Ploeg: History and cultural heritage The Dutch weaving mill De Ploeg was founded in 1923 as cooperation and is since then developing design, weaving and distributing good quality fabrics. From the beginning of the last century, during the twenties, De Ploeg is well-known as a supplier of curtain and upholstery fabrics. In the fifties De Ploeg was a leading company giving direction to the Dutch movement of “Good modern living”. The goal was to improve the living environment, to create a living more modern, light and comfortable. “Modern Living” not just for the happy few. National and International De Ploeg became a well-known design name. Important designers work with De Ploeg. Focussed on research and good taste, fashion and technology, the designers at De Ploeg create original fabrics appreciated by the consumer as well as by professionals. De Ploeg fabrics are used in homes, fashion, by furniture manufacturers, upholsterers, interior decorators and architects.
STERKE STOFFEN 1923 - 2012 Expositie en archief weverij De Ploeg ondergebracht bij Audax textielmuseum in Tilburg Archief De Ploeg in textielmuseum: EEN COLLECTIE VAN NATIONAAL BELANG. De historie, stoffen, stalen, foto’s en documenten van De Ploeg worden gearchiveerd door het Audax textielmuseum. Dit archief vormt een collectie die door de landelijke werkgroep Vormgevings-archieven aangemerkt wordt als één van de bedrijven die een belangrijk onderdeel zijn van het Nederlands cultureel erfgoed. Zij refereren naar De Ploeg collectie als “een collectie van nationaal belang”. De Ploeg : Historie en cultureel erfgoed De Nederlandse weverij De Ploeg is in 1923 opgericht als coöperatie en sindsdien bezig met het ontwerpen, ontwikkelen, weven en op de markt brengen van stoffen. Sinds begin vorige eeuw, in de jaren 20, geniet De Ploeg bekendheid als weverij en leverancier van gordijn-en meubelstoffen. Vanaf de jaren 50 werd De Ploeg een toonaangevend bedrijf wat richting gaf aan het begrip “goed wonen” en er ontstaat grote bekendheid bij het Nederlands publiek. Ook internationaal is De Ploeg een begrip. Doel van de Goed Wonen stroming was, de leefomgeving te verbeteren. Wonen moest modern, lichter, comfortabel, en liefst voor iedereen, niet alleen voor de happy few. Belangrijke ontwerpers verbinden hun naam aan De Ploeg. Met veel aandacht voor ontwikkeling en smaak, mode en technologie ontwikkelen de ontwerpers van De Ploeg originele stoffen die gewaardeerd worden door zowel de consument als de professionele gebruikers van stoffen als de meubelproducenten, stoffeerders en architecten.

NEW FABRICS ON OLD DESIGN CLASSICS At Yksi De Ploeg shows a classic Artifort chair, the Oyster This vintage design classic is new upholstered with De Ploeg Fabric Nevada. (Interior Innovation Award Winner IMM Cologne 2012). Cooperation Dutch designers and furniture manufacturers. Starting in the 1940’s a cooperation is developed between fabric weaving mill De Ploeg and craftsmen and designers in manufacturing furniture. De Ploeg is presently cooperating with i.a. Artifort, Gelderland, Leolux, Cor, Rolf Benz, Maharam and Vitra. Summer 2012 De Ploeg exposed in the old mill in Bergeijk, showing well known design classics with new fabrics upholstered. Vintage Furniture was showed from i.a. Gelderland, Spectrum and Artifort. On the same event De Ploeg wrote out a contest: please send us a picture of your most original, old, vintage design chair and win the upholstery with new De Ploeg fabric for your old vintage design treasure.
NIEUWE STOFFEN OP DESIGN KLASSIEKERS Bij Yksi toont De Ploeg: model Oyster van Artifort Een vintage design klassieker bekleedt met Ploegstof Nevada. Vanaf begin 19e eeuw is er een samenwerking gegroeid tussen De Ploeg weverij en meubelvakmensen. De Ploeg werkt samen met o.a. Artifort, Gelderland, Leolux, Cor, Rolf Benz, Maharam en Vitra. Zomer 2012 toonde De Ploeg samen met deze partners nieuwe stoffen op bekende oude meubels. Bekende ontwerpen van o.a. Gelderland, Spectrum en Artifort zijn gestoffeerd met nieuwe Ploegstoffen. Bij deze gelegenheid schreef De Ploeg een prijsvraag uit: Stuur ons uw meest originele, oude, vintage meubel en u kunt een herstoffering met Ploegstof voor uw geliefde oude designklassieker winnen.

FABRICS FOR OBJECT RETURN & REVIVE Curtain Fabric ‘Return’, working on the reuse of raw materials The fabric ‘Return’ is made from completely recyclable Trevira CS. ‘Return’ reduces the amount of waste and saves raw materials. This curtain fabric is produced using environmentally friendly and cradle-to-cradle certified methods. With ‘Return’, De Ploeg is investing in innovative production processes. Curtain fabric ‘Revive’, a 300-cm high transparent material made from PET-bottles! De Ploeg’s ‘Revive’ quality is made from Trevira CS and recycled yarn, which is called ‘new life’ by the spinner. The ‘new life’ yarn is made from used plastic bottles. More information about this yarn can be found at www.filaturemiroglio.com. With this fabric, De Ploeg is investing in sustainable production processes. Raw materials and the environment Easy to recycle – for greater peace of mind De Ploeg curtain and upholstery fabrics are known for their high quality in terms of both composition and fabric properties and are guaranteed to have a long life span.
