Emman Acasio’s latest exhibit titled “Elysian Dreams” is inspired by the Elysian fields or “Elysium”. According to Greco-Roman mythology, it was the home of the blessed after death, the final resting place of the souls of the heroic and pure. This is Acasio’s personal tribute to the current pandemic’s frontliners, especially the healthcare workers, and how he considers them modern-day heroes. Each artwork resembles an island, where the souls of some of the country’s doctors who unfortunately succumbed to the virus because of their profession, now reside. In their own island, they are free, happy, and at peace. Acasio aptly named each painti ng after the fallen Filipino healthcare workers. Through the creation of “Elysian Dreams”, Emman Acasio hopes to bring attention the selfless acts of those who continue to help others, so that the community survives and will eventually continue to thrive. The crystal imagery in his artworks acts as a metaphor to represent healing within the heart of the individual, the family, and the country. While many have fallen victim to the unpredictability of this pandemic, Acasio’s art acts as a tool to inspire hope, activate commitment, and instill a sense of restoration. “Elysian Dreams” by Emman Acasio will be on view at Art Lounge Manila from June 24 to July 9, 2020.
