I started experimenting more
Graduating at ArtEZ from your home base in Madagascar? That’s what Swenn Mohn did. He was the first student to graduate from the new bachelor’s course in Composition for Film and Theatre, which can also be attended (partly or fully) online.
Swenn Mohn’s interest in music started as a child with the violin. Then he discovered the guitar, harmonica, piano and many other instruments. Thanks to his education at ArtEZ, he started experimenting more, creating many opportunities. Now he composes his own music. Wasn’t it difficult to follow the courses online? “No, I feel very comfortable in online meetings. I think I’ve had about five hundred. Although I didn’t meet anyone in person, it really helped me to prepare for ‘real life’.”
Growing as both a composer and a human being Swenn’s work shows his broad interests and his ability to be inspired by anything.
The film industry of Madagascar
While graduating, Swenn worked on the sound design for a Malagasy film. “If it had something to do with sound, I was working on it. Not just the music, but also the filler sounds like footsteps and mixing the dialogue. It was a rewarding experience.” Swenn would like to continue contributing to the Madagascar film scene. “We are just starting out in developing a film tradition over here. I would like to stay involved and share what I have learned during my studies.”
