BH has been for over a century a synonym of bicycles, cycling, sportsmanship and selfimprovement. Many children have given their first and hesitant turn of the pedals with a BH bicycle, and legendary cyclists have also been created on many of these bikes. The journey of BH (Beistegui Hermanos) in the industry initiated in Eibar (Guipuzkoa, Spain), a city of arms manufacturers, in 1909 as a result of the genius and enterprising spirit of three brothers: Cosme, Domingo and Juan Beistegui Albistegui.

2

The company, which was founded as an arms manufacturer, gave a radical 180-degree turn following the First World War, and it set out to provide a fast, comfortable and economic means of transport for the citizens of Eibar. The result was the development of very light, agile and reliable bicycles. This is how one of the current cycling icons and one of the most successful and consolidated brands was born. From that point onwards and as a result of its technological

advances and abiding commitment to sport, BH has achieved a series of sporting triumphs and has contributed with several innovations to the world of cycling. By 1935, BH was firmly settled in the Spanish cycling scene. The BH team had one of the best cyclists of the day in its ranks, the Belgian Gustave Deloor (1913 - 2002), who won the first two editions of the Vuelta a España in 1935 and 1936. Up to this date, BH has won seven Vueltas a España, the last one in 1986 with Álvaro Pino. In that edition, the team Zor-BH also came first in the team classification. Fede Etxabe achieved another historical triumph in 1987 by winning the legendary Alpe d’Huez stage of the Tour de France and becoming the first Spanish cyclist to include his name in one of its 21 bends. In more recent times, BH has been the provider of several cycling teams, such as Liberty Seguros or AG2R. In line with its success in sport, BH also grew and extended the frontiers of its activity.

over a century of innovation and passion for bicycles

In 1959, BH moved to a more modern and larger plant in Vitoria, from which it has developed high quality bicycles and components for all cycling disciplines: road, mountain, all terrain, electric and even fitness and elliptical bicycles. The technological innovations developed by BH, such as the NEO range, the Ultralight frames, the Global Concept and the Lynx double suspension for MTBs, has allowed the brand to continue being ahead of its time and offer solutions to the demands made by the two-wheel enthusiasts. 100 years later, the Beistegui family are still at the head of BH and continue to maintain the essence of a company that remains true to the values it was founded upon: innovation, research and technological development; social and environmental responsibility; dynamism, commitment, reliability and trustworthiness; and, above all, its passion for bicycles. And all this with the aim of continuing to offer sport and health products to the entire world.

2. Hollow Core Internal Molding Technology

From the first turn of the pedal, the all new G6 makes clear the advantages this unique Aero design offers its pilot. Designed for racing, the G6 clearly displays how details both large and small are important at the highest level of competition. The G6 was designed to maximize the riders power output by increasing the lateral stiffness of the frame from front to back.

We build bicycles from the inside out The G6 is a 100% carbon frame from front to back. Similar to the Ultralight frame, it has been manufactured using our Hollow Core Internal Molding Technology. The result, a highly controlled carbon structure with a superior performance to weight ratio. The advanced carbon technology and unique lay-up designs used in the development of the G6 are the result of countless hours of of design, development, testing and a relentless pursuit for perfection. The choice of carbon is second only to how it is used in the construction of the frame. Our innovative technologies and years of development experience allow BH to truly develop frames that lead an industry. A blend of high and low modulus carbon fiber materials are used to achieve the desirable ride qualities that BH is synonymous with. These specific materials are CNC cut to precise tolerances to ensure accuracy and product consistency. The actual lay-up and construction of each individual frame is completed by hand and inspected dozens of times through the development process to ensure each BH frame delivers the exact ride quality intended. The formula driven aerodynamic tube sections of the new G6 are designed to increase rider efficiency. This was achieved by optimizing airflow over key sections of the frame while increasing the lateral stiffness of these same tubes to deliver superior power transfer. The full carbon front derailleur mount has been refined to provide greater stiffness for superior shifting performance.

R o a d   2013

BH Bikes has always been faithful to a principle: to manufacture agile and resistant bikes that optimise the cyclist’s power, transforming effort into speed. From this centenarian philosophy and harmony between passion and technology, the Ultralight bicycles were born U L T R A L I G H T With the Ultralight range, BH goes a step further in the development and manufacture of ultralight bicycle frames. BH has used state-of-theart technology in the design of this M-sized frame, which weighs less than 750 grams, while maintaining the highest of standards required in top-level of competition. Climbing a mountain pass or sprinting is now much easier thanks to the surprising instant rigidity-reactivity ratio.

Carbon manufactured with a high pressure system

Ultralight bicycles have been chosen by triathletes Eneko Llanos, Joao Silva, Mario Mola, the World Champion Nicola Spirig and the cycling team Burgos - BH.

1. Hollow Core Internal Molding Technology We build bicycles from the inside out The Ultralight frame is the successful technological result based on years of study and research from the R&D department of BH Bikes. Innovative manufacturing processes and stateof-the-art technology in carbon moulding have been combined in their manufacture.

This innovative technology allows for controlling and optimising the ideal thickness of the different parts of the frame during its construction, choosing the most suitable carbon fibres for its development and keeping their superimposition to a minimum to ensure extreme rigidity and lightness. Comparison of properties in carbon fibres LM (Low Module) HM (High Module)

Specific Young’s LM Modulus (Mm) HM Traction resistance LM (GPa) HM

This moulding technique, exclusive to the bicycle industry, maximizes the carbon used to build the frame with extreme precision. All this has enabled BH to manufacture frames with unmatched lightness and rigidity.

29

The monocoque frame, manufactured using a specific blend of high and low modulus carbon, has been built using our Hollow Core Internal Molding Technology, which includes a highly controlled system to avoid creating any bubbles or imperfections within the carbon. This exclusive system brings out the best quality of the molded material and eliminates inconsistent pressure within mould in process.

Density LM (g/cm) HM

BH uses several types of High and low Modules carbon fibres along with Pitch Fiber carbon to manufacture its bicycles. The result is a rigidity/weight ratio that is considered by the engineering department of BH Bikes an optimum value to reach the maximum levels of rigidity and performance in a bicycle designed for top-level of competition.

2. Crankset BB386 EVO More torsion stiffness Another great technological advance in the Ultralight frames is the BB386 EVO crankset, an innovation developed by BH in collaboration with FSA that is expected to become a standard in new frame development. This innovative design allows for over-sizing of the bottom bracket to 86.5 mm in overall width, therefore increase its surface, rigidity and resistance. This new design has enabled BH to increase the size of the down tubes diameter, thus reducing the thickness of the walls and increasing the torsion stiffness by 166% and the rear stiffness by 125%.

3. 1.5” Integrated carbon conical headset

4. Cable guides within the frame

More side rigidity

Maximum protection, easy maintenance

Ultralight bicycles also include an important technological innovation in the integrated conical headset. The head tube is manufactured entirely in carbon, which notably increases the side rigidity and torsion stiffness and also avoids any bearing play developing in the head tube. The forks mounted on Ultralight frames are manufactured entirely in carbon, are light -weighing only 300 grams- and testing results that comfortably exceed those included in the EN 14781 European safety tests.

This all new internally routed cable guide system contributes to the lightness of the Ultralight bicycles and considerably simplifies its maintenance. The original cable guiding system permits the integration of mechanical or electronic systems, guaranteeing maximum protection. This system also includes covers that, when changed, allow switching from an electronic to a mechanical system.

5. «Semi-Slooping» geometry Directly connected to the bicycle The Ultralight offers an experience on the road that fuses the bicycle with the cyclist, becoming an unstoppable machine. The slightly lifted head tube, the rear triangle’s geometry with 402 mm chainstays and the slight modification of the seat’s angle place the centre of gravity of Ultralight bicycles in a lower position than usual. This design allows for an immediate acceleration, as the cyclist feels fully connected to the bicycle. In short, the Ultralight is an ultracompact bicycle that in extreme situations, such as sudden accelerations when climbing or sprinting, pushes you further.

The ideal balance between rigidity and lightness The Ultralight RC frame weighs only 880 grams, has higher carbon rigidity ratios and provides an incredible performance sensation

Racing

Road

2013

The Ultralight RC racing frame, weighing only 880 grams, is one of the lightest, most rigid and most rigid frames designed up to this date

U L T R A

L I G H T

The Ultralight RC range is moulded using a slightly different blend of carbon but is manufactured using the same carbon arrangement techniques used in the Ultralight range. These advanced moulding techniques have allowed BH to increase the size of the tubes while also increasing the global rigidity and lightness of the set. The result is a frame that weighs only 125 grams more than the extremely light Ultralight frames.

The combination of these techniques has allowed BH to develop a light frame that weighs only 880 grams with higher carbon rigidity ratios and an incredible performance sensation. The frame has been entirely manufactured in carbon from the head tube to the dropouts. traseras.

This technology has enabled BH, during the construction of the different parts of the Ultralight RC frame, to choose the optimum carbon fibres for its development, just like in the Ultralight range, to keep the superimposition to a minimum with the aim of ensuring extreme rigidity and lightness. A combination of different module materials has been used in its manufacture to obtain the rigidity, resistance and performance standards required by a brand such as BH. The high precision involved in the core removal technology used during the frame’s construction provides a combination of extreme lightness and rigidity. The carbon has been cut using a specific flat CNC tool that cuts each of the carbon layers so they subsequently join perfectly in the frame’s layup process.

Another important technological development included in the Ultralight RC range is the integrated conical headset. The lateral rigidity and torsion stiffness and avoids any bearing play in the head tube that develops as a consequence of its continued use. The fork, is made in one carbon piece, and has been developed in conjunction with the worldwide leaders in carbon technology.

Hollow Core Internal Molding Technology. We build bicycles from the inside out The Ultralight RC is a monocoque frame design, manufactured entirely with carbon, has been built using our Hollow Core Internal Molding Technology, which uses a controlled pressure system that avoids creating any bubbles or imperfections within the carbon. This moulding technique, which brings out the best quality of the compact material and eliminates inconsistent pressure within the mould, is the result of years of study and research by the R&D department of BH Bikes.

1.5” Integrated carbon conical headset. More side rigidity

The front derailleur’s support, integrated and completely manufactured in carbon, contributes to the weight reduction, provides extra rigidity and offers, at the same time, an unmatched performance.

Crankset BB386 EVO. More torsion stiffness. The Ultralight RC range includes the new BB386EVO crankset. This design allows over-sizing the outer width of the bottom bracket up to 86.5 mm in the base and therefore increase its surface, rigidity and resistance. This innovative design, developed by BH in collaboration with FSA, allows increasing the size of the down tubes up to a diameter of 86.5 mm in the base, thus reducing the thickness of the walls. This has enabled BH to increase the size of the down tubes thus reducing the thickness of the walls and increasing the torsion stiffness by 130% and the rear stiffness in 115%. All these are key aspects in extreme road situations such as climbing or sprinting.

Cable guides within the frame. Maximum protection, simple maintenance The original cable guiding system permits the integration of mechanical or electronic systems, guaranteeing maximum protection. This system also includes covers that allow switching from an electronic to a mechanical system.

2013

BH has developed the new Prisma range paying special attention to detail and progressing in the design of Global Concept models

PRISMA The Prisma frame provides the same performance and includes the same features as the top-level competition frames used in the BH’s legendary bicycles, but concentrated in a bicycle specially suited for a wide range of top-level cyclists or cyclotourers. Its top tube with a semislooping design and an oversized head tube provide the cyclist a comfortable position which is ideal for long-distance races and even for the roughest of surfaces. The Prisma range is the perfect choice for top-level cyclo-tourers and a great option for racing cyclists. Discover why Prisma is a superior bicycle in comparison with its segment. Built almost entirely in carbon. Excellent capacity for vibration absorption The Prisma frame has been built in carbon from the head tube to the dropouts. Its structure is based on the Global Concept frames, which is a guaranties rigidity and performance.

Ergonomics, reactivity and performance The design of the Prisma frame offers cyclists a great sense of safety, stability and comfort without sacrificing the reactivity or performance that is so characteristic of BH bicycles. A slightly inclined top tube provides cyclists greater safety and comfort. The oversized head tube, the tapered design of the frame and the shorter rear chainstays (405 mm) makes the distance between axles slightly shorter than the other models in its range. All this makes the Prisma range a more ergonomic bicycle, and it offers cyclists a more stable behaviour without sacrificing the reactivity, explosiveness and performance so characteristic of a top-level competition BH bicycle.

1.5” Integrated carbon conical headset. More rigidity, further control. The 1.5” conical fork has been designed, as the rest of the frame, following the principles of BH racing models, thus providing the bicycle with further rigidity and a safer control. The rear of the frame, made in carbon, has been designed in the same way as the G5 frames. This unique design was conceived to offer a superior performance in toplevel competitions at a competitive price. The new Prisma also permits integrating the Shimano Di2 system, guaranteeing maximum protection, easy maintenance, and a more refined aesthetic. Geometry The geometry of the Prisma frame combines reactivity, speed and ergonomics. The carefully designed frame offers an excellent comfort level, and it can be enjoyed by a wide range of users. It is a light and reactive bicycle where a cyclist can obtain maximum performance in any type of situation.

The arrangement of carbon in the frame has been exclusively designed to be extremely complient. The result in a more comfortable handling, rigid frame that guarantees maximum power and efficiency with each turn of the pedals. The Prisma frame is one of the lightest and most compliant frames in its category.

PressFitBB30 crankset. Lighter, more rigid and more precise The arrangement of carbon in the construction of the Prisma frame has been designed to integrate the innovative PressFitBB30 system, a lighter, more rigid and more precise bottom bracket. Thanks to this system, a higher level of vertical compliantness is achieved and the bottom bracket’s rigidity has been remarkably improved.

zaphire Performance and comfort on the road

Zaphire is the ideal range for an enthusiastic rider that wants to enter the cycling world

40 44

resistance The Zaphire range, inspired in BH’s Global Concept model, is perfect for practicing cyclo-tourism or entering the cycling world. The frame has been conceived and designed to guarantee all the features that a cyclist looks for as well as to provide a high level of performance with an unbeatable value for money

Manufactured in 7005 aluminium and hydroforming technology The Zaphire frame has been manufactured in 7005 aluminium using hydroforming technology. This enables BH to design attractive frames with high resistance and lightness coefficients while keeping the maximum quality standards that the brand requires in all its models. The 7005 aluminium treatment, in conjunction with hydroforming technology, allows creating customised tubes, provides the frame with further rigidity in critical areas and makes them lighter when necessary. The design of Zaphire frames combines extra rigidity in the bottom area with a high level of comfort and flexibility in the top tubes. All this provides the frame with a great capacity for vertical compiance and further lateral rigidity. The result is a frame with smoothed welds and clean lines from which the cyclist can obtain an exceptional performance and great comfort on the road.

The carbon fork and the aluminium steerer provide extra comfort and contribute to making the bicycle lighter. Geometry Great response. The wheel base is slightly increased on the Zaphire frame to guarantee the frame’s stability. The headtubes by design are slightly taller to providing better fit and further comfort on the road. As a result, the frame’s geometry offers cyclists a great all arounnd performance. A wide range of sizes and colours The Zaphire range has been designed to accommodate a wide range of cyclists and therefore offers a large number of sizes and colours in a completely new graphic package for 2013.

triathlon

Nobody knows better than the triathletes themselves what they require from a top-level racing bike. This is why BH’s engineering team and the triathletes have worked side by side to design and develop the new Aero frame, which meets the standards established by the International Cycling Union

Tr i a t h l o n

2013

The Aero’s exceptional design, which incorporates the latest technology, and its advanced aerodynamics are the result of many brainstorming sessions between BH’s technical and sports teams to produce a spectacular, highly-advanced triathlon bike that is destined for top-level competition

Aero design The structure of the Aero frame has been manufactured along the same lines as BH’s other top-range frames, such as the Ultralight. In constructing the Aero frame, carbon is cut using a special CNC tool which accurately separates each of the carbon fibre sheets to ensure a percise and highly controlled layup of the frame. This innovative technology allows us to control, optimise, and customise the ideal thickness of the various parts of the frame during the building process, to establish the most suitable carbon fiber for its development and to minimise overlap as much as possible, which ensures ultimate stiffness and lightness. This proprietary manufacturing process uses a combination of high, medium, and low modulus carbon fibre to achieve the high quality standards required by BH. The impressive and effective aerodynamic design also incorporates the best of BH’s ideas which we have applied in our toprange frames to achieve optimum air penetration and biomechanical position. As with the development of the G6, formula generated tube sections were utilized in the development of the Aero’s unique frame design. Extensive analysis and testing was carried out to maximise the aerodynamics of the frame without affecting frame stiffness.

47 55 1. Oversized bottom bracket. Greater torsional stiffness BH oversized the bottom bracket in order to incorporate the BB386EVO system, which ensures greater torsional stiffness and increased rider efficiency. This innovative design allows the width of the external bottom bracket to be increased to 86.5 mm, providing greater flexiblity to produce a superior frame design. The combination of the oversized bottom bracket design, allowing the incorporation of the BB386EVO system, together with the position of the chain stays makes the Aero frame appropriate for even the widest wheels in the sector.

triathlon

3

2. Carbon rear dropouts The carbon rear dropouts ensure precise alignment of the wheel. The rear derailleur hanger is the same as that used for the new G6 and provides exceptional performance when shifting.

3. Internal wiring for mechanical or electronic systems The unique cable guide system of the Aero frame allows for integration of either mechanical or electronic systems, ensuring maximum protection. 4. Fork design The unique design of the fork enables multiple braking systems to be used, including hydraulic systems.

2

5. Seat post. The perfect position

8

The aerodynamic design allows for theoretical seat tube adjusted between 74º and 80º so the cyclist can obtain the best position and adapt the geometry to different disciplines.

56

6. Head tube

5

The narrow 1 1/8” head tube design integrated with the new headset spacing system, allows this aggressive-design to accommodate a wide range of individual rider fitting requirements.

RX TEAM

Cyclo-cross bikes have to be reliable, and versatile in particular, as they have to adapt to all kinds of terrain and weather conditions. The new RX Team from BH meets these requirements. They are light, so the cyclo-cross rider moves less weight on muddy tracks, and are rigid so that on dry circuits the rider converts all their strength into speed.

C i c l o c ro s s

When BH Bikes developed a frame for cyclo-cross it was thinking about competition and what racers in this discipline required from their machine, whatever terrain or conditions they came up against along the circuit

BH designed and manufactured the new RX Team frame with collaboration and input from some of the most famous, experienced and demanding cyclo-cross riders in Europe. The frame also incorporates the best design ideas that BH has already implemented and integrated into its top-level frames. 100% carbon monocoque frame The new RX Team is a monocoque carbon frame design which utilizes a proprietary layup to customise the frame and reinforce key strength areas while reducing material and weight in less demanding locations of the frame. The arrangement of the carbon fiber layup in the RX frame follows the same principles and concepts as those developed for the Ultralight frame, using a propriatery blend of high, medium and low modulus

carbon to achieve the highest quality standards that BH and its riders require from all their frames. The innovative design of the tubes was developed and tested with some of the most famous and demanding cyclotrons riders in Europe to guarantee optimal performance and ensure both stiffness and lightness. In addition, the RX Team frame has been designed and adapted to meet the new standards regarding disc brakes recently approved by the UCI for competition.

3. Fork Another new feature of the RX Team is the fork design. This completely new tapered 1.5 inch fork optimises tortional stiffness while providing the necessary precision in the headset, to prevent noise and vibration while braking. This combined with added tire clearance make for an unbeatable combination. 4. Rear dropouts

All these innovations, and technologies incorporated, make the new RX Team frame the perfect candidate for a place of honour in the BH stable. Ultimately, it’s a highly versatile and reliable frame destined for victory.

The carbon rear dropouts incorporate an aluminium dual insert system which allows you to change the distance between the frame dropouts from 130 mm to 135 mm, depending on whether cantilever brakes or disc brakes are being used.

1. BB386EVO Bottom Bracket. Wider, more rigid in torsion

5. Removable pivots

The RX Team frame has been designed around the new BB386EVO bottom bracket system which allows the use of an 86.5 mm shell. Increasing the surface of the shell, means you also greatly increase its torsional rigidity, strength, and the cyclist’s efficiency during a ride or a race. Furthermore, the chainstays and fork design, together with the new BB386EVO bottom bracket system, allow for use of the widest wheels in the market. 2. Internal Cable Routing One of the main innovations of the frame is the new cable guide system. In this respect, the RX frames has been inspired by the new G6s. This mechanism, developed by BH, allows for the integration of both mechanical and electronic systems, ensuring maximum protection.

4

2013

If deciding to use disc brakes, the supporting pivot posts for the cantilever brakes can be removed from both the fork and the rear chainstay. The geometry of the RX Team is true to the philosophy of all the frames made by BH. This is a highly reactive competition frame, with exceptional power transfer and uncompromising performance.

2013

The Lynx 6 blurs the lines between a lightweight trail bike that you can ride all day on XC trails, and an aggressive trail bike that experienced riders can tackle rough and high speed terrain with. The Lynx 6 is truly versatile trail bike that will reward riders who enjoy attacking the trail»

The new Lynx 6 range is the culmination of almost three years of work, and it represents for BH’s development team a step forward in the complete redefinition of suspension and geometry. The new Lynx 6 is an Aggressive Trail bicycle especially recommended for the most daring of riders. It is perfect for the roughest of surfaces, sandy areas, tough climbs and furious descents. Just like in the Lynx 4.8 and Lynx 4, BH again includes in this imposing machine the innovative and successful Split Pivot platform. BH is the only European brand that licences this patented technology developed by the prestigious MTB engineer Dave Weagle. This new model joins the previous Lynx bicycles and the Cross Country Lynx 4.8, completing BH’s double suspension range with the Split Pivot system. The Lynx 6 frames, in addition to including the revolutionary Split Pivot system, have been designed with a geometry that rewards the most daring of riders. In the Lynx 6, just like in the Lynx 4.8, the link between the suspension’s kinematics and the frame’s geometry have allowed BH to use smoother angles in the head tube and place the bottom bracket at a lower height than other brands. These innovations are all advantages and none of the issues that are usually associated with this type of design.

Brake link Control link Wheel link

The key aspects of the Split Pivot system Split Pivot is a floating suspension system based on traction, pedalling efficiency, handling and the bicycle’s rigidity. This innovative mechanism has been developed by Dave Weagle, one of the most innovative and most talented MTB engineers in the industry. His designs are always a success, and they represent a great leap forward in innovation and a step further in the development and construction of bicycles.

Anti-Squat The Anti-Squat system is one of the most important parameters that govern the full performance of a bicycle with suspension. The Lynx 6 frame offers a drastic improvement in anti-bobbing, where it is limited to a minimum, and a higher efficiency in acceleration than former models. The Lynx range allows using the suspension’s compression as a tool that can be adjusted instead of being a feature that results in “poor” acceleration.

Braking-Squat

Floating-Mount

In the Lynx 6 range, the BrakingSquat has been designed in such a way that braking does not affect the distance covered by the rear wheel, as the suspension remains continuously active at 95%. This results in a better grip when braking, and, most importantly, it provides the cyclist with further confidence.

The Leverage Ratio is achieved, partly, thanks to the Floating Mount that keeps the shock-absorber in a floating position and moves it when the suspension is in operation. This allows obtaining the desired progressiveness in the bicycle’s behaviour. BH is the only brand that uses the Floating Mount in the Split system to achieve the desired curve.

These are all the features that cyclists will be able to appreciate directly when riding.

80

Lynx 4.8 cross country

Leverage Ratio The Leverage Ratio system defines how the bicycle will respond to potholes, especially when not in acceleration. Because the Split Pivot suspension controls the acceleration and braking processes instead of the shock-absorber, it allows for a much more progressive and continuous Leverage Ratio. The Lynx’s curve has been designed together with the air chamber and the curves of the FOX RP23 BoostValve shock-absorber to provide a range with a very specific performance. Likewise, a Lynx bicycle requires less pressure in the shock-absorber, as the Split Pivot has notably improved the behaviour of the bicycle in small potholes, thus providing absorption properties in areas where further support is needed, without creating a hammock effect while offering the necessary distance for cyclists.

Kinematics coordination The Split Pivot Suspension and the frame’s geometry It is no secret that the most aggressive riders like to turn the most difficult corners, skid, and attack in any possible area throughout a route. The design of the angles, the weight balance, and the benefit received from good body positioning thanks to the geometry of the Lynx 6 allow for a more aggressive riding. It is a real treat for the most extreme of riders. The Lynx has been built as a bicycle to be mounted during the day on any terrain, and at the same time, to reward the recreational side of cycling with an Aggressive Trail riding style. The secret to this result is the coordination between the kinematics of the Suspension Split Pivot and the frame’s geometry. Thanks to the efficiency of the Split Pivot in reducing the effects resulting from transferring loads to the bicycle, the cyclist will enjoy the sensation of really being “part” of the bicycle instead of being “on” the bicycle. Further control, confidence and enjoyment are what Dave Weagle and the team of engineers at BH Bikes have searched for and achieved with the this frame’s geometry.

MTB

2013

The Fox CTD shock-absorber, especially designed for the Lynx Range Fox shock-absorbers have allowed BH to achieve its desired suspension curve and, in conjunction with the Split Pivot, to offer an excellent behaviour in small potholes, providing absorption properties in areas where further support is needed, without creating a hammock effect while offering the necessary distance for cyclists.

81

Starlink and Monolink The Lynx 4 continues to feature the Starlink system: the serrated axle in the tie rod that ensures further rigidity. Meanwhile, the Lynx 6 uses the Monolink system, which is compatible with the new shockabsorbers developed by Fox.

82

Lynx frames are one-piece carbon frames, which provide homogeneity throughout the entire frame and eliminate critical areas because there are no joints or welds between tubes. In its development, the BH team has worked very closely with leading manufacturers in carbon fibre. The Lynx 6 has been developed using UHM technology (Ultra High Module), which provides further rigidity with the same weight, while the Lynx 4 has been developed using HM technology (High Module) to offer further rigidity as well as extreme lightness. This carbon moulding technology enables BH to provide frames with maximum rigidity and absorption against vibrations as well as extreme lightness, as both frames weigh 2,300 grams (without the shockabsorber).

Integrated carbon conical direction The integrated carbon conical direction, an in-house technology developed by BH for Lynx frames, is another important technological advance included in the Lynx range. Built completely in carbon, it notably increases the side rigidity and torsion stiffness.

Press Fit 92 bottom bracket More width, further torsion stiffness The width of the bottom bracket, 92 mm, increases the torsion stiffness and reduces the thickness of the walls by increasing the section of the diagonal tubes.

142x12 rear wheel axle Better transmission, further stability The rear axle incorporates a Q12-142x12 system that increases the torsion stiffness in 30 % in comparison with the previous 135x9. This new feature in the Lynx range notably improves energy transmission and rear axle stability.

MTB

2013

Direct Mount Front derailleur hanger The Direct Mount derailleur offers maximum quality and reliability in the mounting of the front derailleur. Its design, completely integrated into the frame, provides further rigidity and precision in gear changing. Its design simplifies its adjustment.

Cable guide within the frame The Lynx range includes an internal guiding system of cables and derailleurs. Likewise, the new Lynx 6 range is also equipped with an internal guide in the adjustable seatpost.

Enduro Bearings Bearings in rotation points The bearings made by Enduro Bearings, worldwide leaders in the industry, require minimum maintenance. This is because they are the only ones designed to offer a small speed rotation and to receive heavy loads. Impacts are always produced in specific areas that bear heavy loads.

Finite-element test Computer tests have enabled BH’s development team to discover which areas of the Lynx frame bear heavier loads and to learn the frame’s response.

MTB Ultimate, the MTB World Champion The new Ultimate frames, specially designed for success in competition, are 100% carbon monocoque, light, rigid and explosive

e

MTB

2013

Julie Bresset, XC World Champion and XC World Cup Champion, says: “the Ultimate is a rigid and lightweight bicycle. It performs well on all types of terrain

1. Designed for top competition Ultimate represents the highest range in rigid MTB frames. These carbon monocoque, lightweight, rigid, responsive, and technological frames are specially designed and developed to succeed in competition. The Ultimate range incorporates excellent new innovations and meets the highest and most demanding standards of top competition. BH equipped the French MTB BH-SR Suntour team with this frame, and its riders Julie Bresset, XC World Champion and XC World Cup Champion, and Maxime Marotte runner-up in France. Cyclo-cross rider Egoitz Murgoitio also used an Ultimate when he participated in the Titan Desert race.

91

2 2. 100% carbon monocoque frame The new Ultimate is a one-piece frame built entirely from carbon monocoque. The monocoque manufacturing gives uniformity to the entire frame, from the head tube to the rear dropouts, and eliminates critical areas by not having joins or welding points between the tubes. In developing the frame, the BH team worked closely with carbon fibre and resin manufacturers to obtain lighter frames with greater stiffness for each size. The application of technology and innovative design in the shape of the tubes, the curvature of the seat stays and the seat tube make the behaviour of the Ultimate reliable and explosive in extreme situations.

Throughout the monocoque frame, the high-modulus carbon fibres –T40, T30, and T24– are configured taking into account the weight and force it will have to withstand in order to strengthen the more delicate areas and lighten those that don’t have to bear so much weight. This combination of fibres provides stiffness, strength, elasticity, and maximum absorption in this top-ofthe range frame.

150

The Ultimate provides rigidity and excellent vibration absorption as it is built with high-modulus carbon fibre, made by the world leader in the sector and identical to those used in the airline industry and in Formula 1.

4 4. Semi-integrated seat post The Ultimate frame incorporates a new semi-integrated seat post, weighing only 110 grams, which allows the rider to adjust the seat height by more than 10 cm.

92

This light weight of only 110 gr was achieved by achieved by designing the top of the tube with an angle of 80°, making it possible to fine-tune the thickness of the post without affecting the weight it supports. The 72° tilt angle of the seat tube has been maintained.

3 All these improvements and innovations allow BH to offer a frame with high stiffness and low weight, 1,000 grams in size M, which is 16% less than the previous version of the Ultimate.

8. EVO Brake Mount System The chainstays have been specifically developed to accommodate the EVO Brake Mount system. The system is located on the rear chainstay of the frame and has an optimum tilt angle which reduces braking vibrations on the rear wheel. The rear axle uses the Q12- 142x12 system, increasing the torsional stiffness by 30% compared to the previous 135x9 system. This innovation significantly improves power transmission and stability of the rear axle.

5. Press Fit 92 bottom bracket Wider, more rigid in torsion One of the most important innovations that BH has incorporated into the new Ultimate frame is the new Press Fit 92 bottom bracket. Its greater width, 92 mm, has allowed the torsional rigidity to be increased and the wall thickness to be reduced by increasing the diagonal tube section.

MTB Lightness and strength The Ultimate RC is a high-end frame that guarantees rigidity, lightness, strength, elasticity, and maximum absorption

MTB

2013

BH’s Ultimate RC range is completely inspired by Ultimate technology. Therefore, it maintains the same geometry and the same quality standards

Ultimate RC carbon frame The Ultimate RC carbon frame is light and comfortable and meets the highest quality standards established by the BH team for the MTB frames. The Ultimate RC 2013 frame is manufactured in T24 carbon under the tube-to-tube process, with three different thicknesses to provide greater rigidity to more delicate areas and increased flexibility to other areas, enabling the carbon to be compacted and moulded precisely and the resin to be distributed evenly to filter any vibrations. In developing the Ultimate RC frame, the BH team worked closely with leading manufacturers of carbon fibre and resin to create a frame that provides an optimum level of comfort and weight.

Throughout the structure, the carbon fibres were arranged taking into account the weight and force they would have to withstand, with the aim of strengthening the delicate areas and lightening areas that don’t have to bear so much weight. The result is a top-of-the range frame which guarantees stiffness, lightness, strength, elasticity and maximum absorption The design and technology applied in the shape of its tubes and the curvature of the seat stays make the behaviour of the Ultimate RC agile, reliable, and comfortable. All these enhancements made to the frame have enabled BH to build a highly rigid frame with a low weight of just 1,280 grams in size S, when unpainted.

The construction of the tubes and the lay-up configuration of the carbon meant BH could produce a frame with an optimal geometry and minimum vibrations to guarantee the rider a high degree of comfort.

EVO Brake Mount System The chainstays have been developed specifically to accommodate the EVO Brake Mount system. Its optimum tilt angle reduces brake vibrations on the rear wheel, increasing braking power and reducing the annoying noise produced when braking. The new location in the chainstays protects the rear brake calliper from potential snags and knocks, thus increasing safety when racing. Geometry

2013

29” wheels have represented a mini “revolution” in the bicycle market in recent years

These bikes are ideal if you’re looking for a machine that makes a difference on rugged and complicated terrain. They are designed for cyclists who enjoy the sensations that larger wheels provide, and who do long distance XC cycling, such as Olympic distance. The main feature of these bikes is their 29” wheels. This particular size originates from the use of ISO 622 mm wheels. (24.5”) (700C) and 57-622 (29 × 2.25) tyres, which emerged in the nineties and have become popular in recent years. The design of the frame is adapted to the wheel size in order to achieve optimum functioning and performance on the bike.

The larger wheel size directly affects the stability and effectiveness of these bicycles on hilly terrain as well as the riding speed that can be achieved. These frames are especially recommended for Downhill or Marathon, without falling behind in Cross Country. Obstacles are overcome more easily because of their greater angle of attack, and they are more stable, since their centre of gravity is in a lower position. Furthermore, they maintain inertia better during the ride, in addition to a greater return journey, i.e. at the same cadence, more distance is travelled. BH has developed three 29” models in order to satisfy a larger and more demanding public. These are the New Ultimate 29”, Zenith 29”, and Peak 29”.

The New Ultimate 29” • 100% carbon monocoque frame • Press Fit 92 bottom bracket • Integrated tapered carbon head tube • 142x12 rear axle • Direct Mount front derailleur anchor • EVO Brake Mount system • Cable guide inside the frame Zenith 29” • Manufactured in 7005 aluminium with hydroforming technology • Press Fit 92 bottom bracket • Integrated tapered carbon head tube • Direct Mount front derailleur anchor • EVO Brake Mount system • For all types of cyclistss Peak 29” • 6061 aluminium frame • EVO Brake Mount system • For all types of cyclists
