“I found I could say things with color and shapes that I couldn’t say any other way - things I had no words for.” - Georgia O´Keeffe I was born and raised in Belgrade, Serbia, where I live with my husband, who is Italian, and our three kids that are the true inspiration for my work. I have a Masters degree from the Faculty of Applied Arts, and have started on my PhD thesis in Applied Arts and Design, through which I get to explore even more within the fields of painting, graphic and textile design. I was raised in an artistic family, so being “crafty” and creative is something that kept me company since my early childhood. My father is a painter, my mother is a ceramic pottery artist, and my sister is a production designer. Growing up in such environment, I often had opportunities to create and design and have continued throughout my life with an array of mediums like drawing, illustrating, calligraphy, graphic design, linoleum printing, photography, and more recently, sewing. I find inspiration everywhere and I love taking many pictures of things that move me, either by their shape, texture or color. When I took the role of a mother, I found I had very limited time to dedicate to art. So, being home often and with a need to create, I discovered the world of fabric. I began to sew after repairing my mother’s vintage sewing machine and soon upgraded to a Serger. The first results were encouraging, pushing me forward to try more complicated techniques and garment pieces. In a few short years, I was led to drawing and making my own patterns after much practice with making unique and fun pieces of clothes for my daughter. My pattern label, “Like Flowers and Butterflies”, was born in 2006. Lately I am lured by quilts and quilting. I love making quilt blocks and having made a few quilts on my own has given me the desire to try and experiment much more in this field. I blog about my creative adventures at Like Flowers and Butterflies.

“NATURE IS SUCH AN IMMENSE SOURCE OF INSPIRATION FOR ME”
spiration for me and I wanted to describe that with this print. If you could sew your dream project with Blithe, what would it be? I want to change some home decor pieces for my home and Mist Woodland colorway is perfect for that, since I love that kind of taupe grey. It looks like a perfect neutral color to me.
Blithe is all about the seasons changing and the beautiful creatures that frolic in the snow. What’s your favorite part about seeing the seaIn the “Dear Deer Teal” print you showcase sons change? confident deers surrounded by flowers. Have I just love seeing all the trees changing colours you ever encountered one of these beautiful creatures in person? and going from greens to some incredible, rich shades of yellow, gold, brown and red. Yes, I did. We have a big animal reserve in my And the sudden arrival of winter followed by country, including many deers. This collection if filled with beautiful elements from nature. How did you gather inspiration When I was searching for good nature relatwithout being overwhelmed by so much ed quotes, I stumbled upon those written by beauty? The delicate colors in this collection are great for mixing and matching in projects! How do you see Blithe being combined with some of your previous collections? I think it goes perfectly well with my first Indelible and also with Wonderland collection. There are always blenders from other collections that can work well together too. Blithe is such a beautiful word that means blissful. How did you choose the name for this collection? When I started working on Blithe, I had in mind some Christmas-y/Festive kind of the collection and the name Blithe just sounded perfect.
inspiring elements that could tell a good story together. Being a mother of three beautiful children, how much do they influence you when designing a line? What products do you dream to make your kids with this new line? My kids are the dearest source of inspiration for my work, and there are always at least a few prints in each collection that are dedicated to them, describing their interests and things they like. I have already created the Dear Deer quilt having in mind my Pablo and the new quilt for his bed, while Marta got the new dress and Bianka got new pair of leggings. What was your design process when creating this collection? As with each collection, it all starts with gathering the inspiration. Then I start doodling, drawing, painting and scanning. Once I have my motifs, elements and textures, I begin with composition and colour arrangement in Photoshop. In Adobe Bridge, it’s easy to place designs side by side and to check how the prints work together.
We would like to know a little bit about the country in where you live, Serbia. Can you tell us 5 things you love about it? Sure, I live in the downtown of Belgrade, the capital of the Republic of Serbia and that’s the first thing that I like…. in a short walking distance, you have the best galleries and museums, restaurants, parks and shops. Belgrade is one of the oldest cities in Europe and since ancient times it has been an important traffic focal point, an intersection of the roads of Eastern and Western Europe. Its history lasts full 7000 years. The area around two great rivers, the Sava and the Danube has been inhabited as early as palaeolithic period. The hill overlooking the Sava and Danube confluence is called Kalemegdan and it’s Belgrade’s central park and my favourite place, just a short walking distance from my house. I like the spirit of the people living here, very friendly and warm-welcoming. The food is also amazing, as it’s kind of a comfort food and also a mix of several typical cuisines. I like the vast options of events and happenings daily, there’s something for everyone’s taste. And lastly, I love to have my friends and family near to me.
