Get the Look - Simple Life Pattern - Baby

Page 1

AGF had the chance to chat with the energetic creative director of SLPco, Katie Skoog, and get to know a little bit more about her company and this new GET THE LOOK kits concept. AGF: What truly inspired you to start SLCco? KS: My true inspiration for starting SLPco was the fact I could not find any patterns that matched the style I wanted for my girls. I don’t like to iron, therefore I do not like a lot of ruffles. We are a simple family and prefer a simple, sophisticated style. That was nearly impossible to find through PDF patterns. I hated seeing overly complicated instructions so I decided to bring all my unique/ sophisticated designs to life using simple instructions that even a beginner sewer can make. AGF: How did the idea of the GTL kits come about? KS: The GTL kits have been something I wanted to do from the day I started SLPco. When I set up my website, I actually had a section created for them but never got around to it, starting a new company takes a lot of work, so it sat on the back burner. One thing I see a lot of questions on is how people choose their fabrics for a garment. A lot of sewers struggle with this and spend several hours rehearsing fabrics for a dress, then abandon the whole idea when they get frustrated. This concept eliminates that long process. This is an easy way to see what the finished garment will look like in those particular fabrics. This way you get to still enjoy the PDF pattern being delivered instantly and then a few days later you get a “happy mail” day. And to top it off, all the kits are discounted from their retail value so you are not only saving time, you are saving money as well. AGF: Having four daughters must bring great inspiration for all the designs, do they get a say on final pattern decisions?

KS: Yes, having 4 girls is a huge inspiration to my designs. My girls are ages 2 - 6, therefore I have a lot of laundry, cleaning, wife/mom duties. I take all that into account when designing. I don’t have time to iron a lot of ruffles (who am I kidding, I don’t iron their clothes at all – a good shake and that’s as far as I go…) so I try to keep the designs practical for everyday wear. Sewing time is hard to come by for a lot of moms so I try be sure most of my designs are fairly fast sews with simple construction and easy to read directions. My girls are little designing divas. They are always drawing pictures of dresses they want. They also love to drape & pin fabric to my mannequins to create their looks. They love helping out with the little design details in each pattern. Sometimes they want pockets, sometimes they pick out the trims or fabric to be used on their dresses. AGF: Why do you think these Get The Look kits will be great for makers? KS: These kits are great for all makers, beginner to advance levels of sewing. Now you don’t have to struggle with fabric choices, you get everything you need to complete each look, all at a discount. Now you are saving time and money. If you struggle with choosing the right fabrics, these kits are for you. Even if you don’t intend to use the fabric for that particular look, you are scoring an amazing deal on the pattern and fabric. I always find it nice to just know exactly what I am doing, and to have the variety of fabrics to create that look. These kits take the frustration out of sewing and make it an enjoyable experience. These kits feature the highest quality fabrics out there, amazing selection of patterns & prints to create gorgeous dresses for girls & babies.
