Conceptual Map Students and staff share the Old Quadrangle. Staff always walk faster than students.Maybe some functions they use on daily basis are are built a bit too far from each other.
Wilson Hall is used for graduation ceremony, exhibitions, etc. It's shared space but not public space.
South Lawn and EEE building are predominantly used by students. EEE is quite enclosed and quiet (at least looking from outside)
Baillieu Library is also filled with students as early as 9:00 and only a few staff can be seen.

1. This site is predominantly used for relaxation, rest and recreation. 2. Actually, most users of the site are students studying in the campus .
Academic Staff
Visitors & Bypassers
1. There are apparently, always, not as many staff as students in this site because of their relatively small population.
1. My personal observation is that visitors and bypassers do not often come and visit this site, simply because they can be easily attracted by its surrounding buildings, such as Wilson Hall, Baillieu Library, Old Arts, Old Quadrangle and so on.
2. As the lawn is largely convered by vegetation and has considerable 2. 3. open space, it's a very easygoing and Visitors and Bypassers generally friendly environment to meet with would not step into the lawn. Perhaps Around lunch time. when usually there colleagues or students. they would prefer not to interrupt are no intensive studies going on, many students and staff and want to students come and sit on the lawn. reamin as beholders of college life.Or Some of them are in groups, meeting 3. maybe, they do not feel quite eligible and talking. Staff also take advantage to have a to use the lawn. rest, take a walk after lunch or in the 4. morning before they set about to work The shelter provided by trees makes the lawn a peaceful and quiet place for students under stress to relax.

1. If some projects are designed and developed properly with the site, it could definitely attract more students
1. The site can provide more opportunities for staff and studetns to keep connections with each other if there is a good public meeting place to meet within it.
1. If there are better user-friendly facilities ,visitors and bypassers probably would not feel like so alienated as they currently do. 2. The University would benefit from contacts with people who from the "outside", that's partly the reason why more and more universities/ colleges have uninstalled their fences.
2. This place could serve as a place where visitors, first-year students gather information about historic background of the University as well as the site (esp. the underground parking lot beneath it and the way it use to look like) 3. Given appropriate facilities, the site could, the lawn can provide better quality of rest, relaxation(e.g., more benches)
2. Better landscape could improve staff's experience of working here and hence enhance their identity with the university.
3. More frequent contacts and interactions of different ideas with people made possible by rennovation of the site would increase users' creativity.
