The goal of the thesis project is to develop a mixeduse environment where the quality of living and working experiences are enhanced through customization. The project focused on studying how different programs could occupy modular spaces and customize them for their intended functions. Future occupants could assign different types of functions to their space. Thus the community could be able to evolve in a unique and healthy way.

For the residential building design, we focused mainly on solving a problem generated by the highrise way of living. According to research, highrise residential buildings significantly increased the chance of interaction between people but lowered their chance of establishing meaningful connections between each other. Our intend is to reconnect people by establishing interest groups. We established amenity spaces that support five different types of activities.

Academic Project
The project is located to the East side of Virginia Tech campus on Draper road. The building is intended to function as a residency for a carpentry artist. It also features a personal woodshop and an artist showroom. It is designed to welcome students and visitiors to look at the artist’s work and learn about wood working. Weathering steel was selectied as the facade material due to its visual charateristics and its ability to bend. The project shows a very clear hierarchy in the use of materials and a contrast between heavy and light.

My main contribution during the internship at DAMU-design is on a fast paced home renovation project. The project took only a month from design to finish contruction, and the design focused primarily on using interior space efficiently and user friendly. My role in the project includes project management, conceptualizing the design, researching and formulating interior design strategies, modeling, generating floor plans and creating construction documents. Internship
During my internship at A&S Architecture, I worked mainly on the schematic designs of an apartment complex and a hotel in Xian, China. I developed Sketchup models for rendering, prepared documents and drawings for client presentations and developed high-rise residential building floor plans in AutoCAD. I also participated in design discussion meetings and construction process meetings.
