Dear Colleagues,

Με χαρά σας καλωσορίζουμε στο 69 Πανελλήνιο Συνέδριο της Ελληνικής Εταιρείας Βιοχημείας και Μοριακής Βιολογίας (EEBMB) που πραγματοποιείται στη Λάρισα, στο Ξενοδοχείο Imperial, 23-25 Νοεμβρίου 2018.

It is our pleasure to welcome you to the 69th Annual Conference of the Hellenic Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (HSBMB) which is taking place in Larissa, at Hotel Imperial, from November 23rd to November 25th, 2018.

Όπως κάθε χρονιά, το Συνέδριο φέρνει σε επαφή ερευνητικές ομάδες Ελλήνων Επιστημόνων που δραστηριοποιούνται σε διάφορους τομείς των Βιοεπιστημών, στην Ελλάδα αλλά και στο εξωτερικό, συμβάλλει στην αλληλεπίδραση ή και στις προοπτικές συνεργασίας μεταξύ τους, αναδεικνύει σημαντικές προσπάθειες των νέων Ελλήνων ερευνητών και δίνει τον σφυγμό από το πρόσφατο ερευνητικό έργο καταξιωμένων ερευνητών από την Ελλάδα και τον διεθνή χώρο. Το Συνέδριο είναι ανοικτό σε όλη τη θεματολογία της σύγχρονης Βιοχημείας και Μοριακής Βιολογίας. Μεταξύ των θεματικών ενοτήτων του Συνεδρίου περιλαμβάνονται: η Δομή και Λειτουργία Μακρομορίων, η Ανάπτυξη και Κυτταρική Επικοινωνία, η Κυτταρική Οργάνωση και Λειτουργία, η Γονιδιακή Έκφραση και η Βιολογία του RNA, η Μοριακή και Κυτταρική Βάση των Ασθενειών, η Βιολογία Συστημάτων, η Βιοπληροφορική και η Βιοτεχνολογία. As every year, the HSBMB Conference is bringing together and contributes to the interaction between research teams of Greek scientists working in various fields of life sciences, both in Greece and abroad, presents the work of young Greek researchers and highlights the recent research advances of nationally and internationally established scientists. The 69th HSBMB Conference is open to all modern fields of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology including Structure and Function of Macromolecules, Development & Cellular Signaling, Cellular Organization and Function, Gene Expression & RNA Biology, Molecular & Cellular Basis of Human Disease, Systems Biology & Bioinformatics and Biotechnology.

Renowned scientists from Greece and abroad participate in this year’s Conference as invited speakers: Sir Peter Ratcliffe Nikos Karamanos (Oxford University), Anne Osbourn (John Innes Centre), David Stuart (Oxford University), Antonis Koromilas (McGill University), Othon Iliopoulos (Harvard Medical School), Nikos Kyrpides (Joint Genome Institute, Berkley), George Spyroulias (University of Patras), Christos Tsatsanis (University of Crete), Christos Zervas (BRFAA), Katerina Katsani (Democritus University of Thrace) and Gregoris Amoutzias (University of Thessaly).

The Conference also includes a Special Session devoted to honoring the memory of Prof. Fotis Kafatos (ex-director of EMBL and ERC) who recently passed away. Speakers of this Session will be Iain Mattaj (EMBL, Heidelberg), Spyros Georgatos (University of Ioannina) and George Christophides (Imperial College London).

Το Συνέδριο περιλαμβάνει και μια ειδική συνεδρία αφιερωμένη στην μνήμη του Καθηγητή Φώτη Καφάτου, στην οποία συμμετέχουν ως ομιλητές οι Iain Mattaj (EMBL), Σπύρος Γεωργάτος (Πανεπιστήμιο Ιωαννίνων) και Γιώργος Χριστοφίδης (Imperial College, London).

The Conference will also like to honor the memory of the recently deceased members of HSBMB, Ioannis Georgatsos (Professor Emeritus, AUTH), Dimitrios Kalpaxis (Professor of Biochemistry, Univ. of Patras), an active professor and researcher that prematurely passed away, as well as Georgios Paleologos (Medical School, Athens University) and Eleftherios Sideris (NCSR «Demokritos»). All of them had a great contribution to the development of the Biochemical Science in Greece and the founding, establishment and subsequent success of HSBMB.

Το Συνέδριο επίσης τιμά τη μνήμη των πρόσφατα εκλιπόντων μελών της ΕΕΒΜΒ, Ιωάννη Γεωργάτσου (Ομότιμοu Καθηγητή Βιοχημείας, ΑΠΘ), Δημήτρη Καλπαξή (Καθηγητή Βιοχημείας Παν. Πατρών) ενεργού δασκάλου και ερευνητή που χάθηκε πρόωρα, καθώς και των Γεωργίου Παλαιολόγου (Ιατρική Σχολή, ΕΚΠΑ) και Ελευθέριου Σιδέρη (ΕΚΕΦΕ “ΔΗΜΟΚΡΙΤΟΣ”). Όλοι τους συνέβαλαν τα μέγιστα τόσο στην ανάπτυξη της επιστήμης της Βιοχημείας στην Ελλάδα όσο και στην ίδρυση, λειτουργία και επιτυχία της ΕΕΒΜΒ.

Linked to the 69th HSBMB Conference, the Forum of Young Scientists of the HSBMB, a previously very successful event, is also organized for the 6th time by an independent committee of young researchers. The 6th Forum of Young Scientists of the HSBMB takes place in Larissa, at Hotel Imperial, on November 22th, 2018.

Παράλληλα με το 69ο Συνέδριο, συνεχίζεται, για 6η χρονιά, ο πολύ επιτυχημένος θεσμός της διεξαγωγής της Ημερίδας Νέων Επιστημόνων, μελών της ΕΕΒΜΒ, η οποία οργανώνεται ανεξάρτητα, από μία επιτροπή νέων ερευνητών. Η 6η Ημερίδα Νέων Επιστημόνων της ΕΕΒΜΒ πραγματοποιείται επίσης στο Ξενοδοχείο Imperial, στις 22 Νοεμβρίου 2018.

Official language of the conference

Η επίσημη γλώσσα του Συνεδρίου είναι η Ελληνική. Οι περιλήψεις κατατίθενται μόνο στην αγγλική γλώσσα. Οι παρουσιάσεις μπορούν να γίνουν στα Ελληνικά ή στα Αγγλικά. Παρακαλούμε να ληφθεί υπόψη ότι πολλοί από τους ξένους προσκεκλημένους ομιλητές θα παρακολουθήσουν τις εργασίες του συνεδρίου.

The official language of the conference is Greek. Summaries will be submitted only in English. Presentations can be in Greek or in English. Please note that many of the foreign invited speakers will attend the conference proceedings.

Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony of the Conference will take place on Friday 23rd November 2018 at Hotel Imperial, Larissa.

Information on the Scientific Program

Επιστημονικό Πρόγραμμα

Scientific Program

Το επιστημονικό πρόγραμμα του Συνεδρίου περιλαμβάνει 14 διαλέξεις Ελλήνων και ξένων προσκεκλημένων ομιλητών, 47 σύντομες προφορικές ανακοινώσεις οργανωμένες σε 8 συνεδρίες, 2 εταιρικές ομιλίες και 200 αναρτημένες ανακοινώσεις (πόστερ) που θα παρουσιαστούν σε δύο συνόδους.

The Scientific Program of the Conference includes 14 lectures by invited speakers, 47 short oral presentations (arranged in 8 sessions), 2 sponsored lectures and presentation of 200 posters arranged in two sessions.

Short Oral Presentations

The time slot for each Short Oral Presentation is 15 minutes (12 min for the presentation and 3 min for discussion). These time limits must be strictly respected by both presenters and chair persons in order to ensure the regular flow of the scientific program.

Σύντομες Προφορικές Ανακοινώσεις

Ο διαθέσιμος χρόνος για κάθε σύντομη προφορική παρουσίαση είναι 15 λεπτά (12 λεπτά χρόνος παρουσίασης και 3 λεπτά διαθέσιμα για ερωτήσεις και απαντήσεις). Τα χρονικά αυτά όρια πρέπει να τηρηθούν αυστηρά από τους ομιλητές και τα Προεδρεία για την ομαλή διεξαγωγή του επιστημονικού προγράμματος.

Technical Support

Invited speakers and oral presenters will need to hand their electronic presentation(s) to the technical support personnel at least one (1) hour prior to the relevant Session. If the presentation is scheduled for early in the morning, they are requested to check their presentation with the technical support personnel the previous day.

Τεχνική Υποστήριξη

Οι προσκεκλημένοι ομιλητές και οι εισηγητές των προφορικών ανακοινώσεων πρέπει να παραδώσουν την ηλεκτρονική τους παρουσίαση στην τεχνική γραμματεία του συνεδρίου τουλάχιστον 1 ώρα πριν την έναρξη της σχετικής συνεδρίας. Εάν η ομιλία είναι προγραμματισμένη για νωρίς το πρωί, η παρουσίαση πρέπει να παραδοθεί την προηγούμενη ημέρα.

Poster Sessions

The posters will be displayed according to the following program on appropriately numbered boards. The dimensions of each poster should be 80 cm wide and 120 cm (max) high.

Αναρτημένες Ανακοινώσεις (Πόστερ)

Τα πόστερ θα αναρτηθούν σύμφωνα με το παρακάτω πρόγραμμα σε κατάλληλα αριθμημένα πάνελ. Οι διαστάσεις των πόστερ πρέπει να είναι 0,80 m πλάτος και έως 1,20 m μέγιστο ύψος.

Posters P001-P100 will be on display from Friday, November 23, 08:30, to Saturday, November 24, 10:00 (Poster Session A). Authors will present odd-numbered posters (Ρ001-Ρ099) during Poster Session A-I (14:0015:00) while even-numbered posters (P002-P100) will be presented during Poster Session A-II (15:30-18:30).

Τα πόστερ P001-P100 θα αναρτηθούν από Παρασκευή, 23 Νοεμβρίου, 08:30, έως Σάββατο, 24 Νοεμβρίου, 10:00 (Σύνοδος Α). Οι συγγραφείς θα παρουσιάσουν τα πόστερ με μονό αριθμό (Ρ001-Ρ099) κατά τη διάρκεια της Συνόδου Α-Ι (14:00-15:00) ενώ τα πόστερ με ζυγό αριθμό (Ρ002-Ρ100) θα παρουσιαστούν κατά τη διάρκεια της Συνόδου Α-ΙΙ (17:30-18:30).

Authors will present odd-numbered posters (Ρ101-Ρ199) during Poster Session B-I (14:0015:00) while even-numbered posters (P102-P200) will be presented during Poster Session B-II (15:30-18:30).

Τα πόστερ P101-P200 θα αναρτηθούν από Σάββατο, 24 Νοεμβρίου, 10:30, έως Κυριακή, 25 Νοεμβρίου, 12:00 (Σύνοδος Β). Οι συγγραφείς θα παρουσιάσουν τα πόστερ με μονό αριθμό (Ρ101-Ρ199) κατά τη διάρκεια της Συνόδου Β-Ι (14:00-15:00) ενώ τα πόστερ με ζυγό αριθμό (Ρ102-Ρ200) θα παρουσιαστούν κατά τη διάρκεια της Συνόδου B-ΙΙ (17:30-18:30).

Awards and Scholarships of the 69th Conference of the HSBMB

The HSBMB has announced awards and travel scholarships for young scientists, registered affiliated or full members of HSBMB, who will present their work in the 69th Conference of the HSBMB. The presented works will be judged for scientific excellence and presentation quality by committees of experienced scientists appointed by the Administrative Board of the HSBMB. The oral and poster presentation awards will be announced during the Closing Ceremony at the end of the Conference. Travel scholarships will also be announced during the Conference.

Βραβεία και Υποτροφίες 69ου Συνεδρίου EEBMB

Η ΕΕΒΜΒ έχει ανακοινώσει ότι στο πλαίσιο του 69ου Συνεδρίου της θα δοθούν βραβεία και έπαινοι για προφορικές και αναρτημένες ανακοινώσεις εργασιών σε νέους επιστήμονες που είναι ταμειακώς τακτοποιημένα αρωγά ή τακτικά μέλη της ΕΕΒΜΒ. Οι εργασίες θα κριθούν από επιτροπές έμπειρων επιστημόνων που θα οριστούν από το ΔΣ της ΕΕΒΜΒ, με κριτήρια την επιστημονική αριστεία και ποιότητα της παρουσίασης. Τα βραβεία θα ανακοινωθούν κατά την Τελετή Λήξης του Συνεδρίου. Οι υποτροφίες συμμετοχής της ΕΕΒΜΒ θα ανακοινωθούν κατά την διάρκεια του Συνεδρίου.

Certificate of Attendance

All registered participants are entitled to receive a Certificate of Attendance. The Certificates will be issued on Sunday, November 25th 2018, at the end of the Scientific Program.

Πιστοποιητικά παρακολούθησης

Όλοι οι εγγεγραμμένοι σύνεδροι δικαιούνται Πιστοποιητικό Παρακολούθησης. Τα πιστοποιητικά θα εκδοθούν την Κυριακή 25 Νοεμβρίου 2018, στο τέλος του Επιστημονικού Προγράμματος.

e-Abstract Book

Abstracts of all the Lectures, Oral Presentations and Poster Presentations are included in the e-Abstract Book of the Conference which will be delivered to all eligible registered participants.
