Message from the WACS President Dear Chefs around the World, It is with great pleasure that I invite you to attend and take part in the World Association of Chefs Societies’ Biannual Congress. Held in the prosperous city of Daejeon, South Korea May 1-5, 2012, this Congress promises to be an exciting showcase for new and upcoming food opportunities and trends. This is the first time this esteemed event will feature a united theme, “How to Feed the Planet in the Future”. As members of one of the most important professions in the world, it is our responsibility to shape the future and create positive change. Korea Cooks Association (KCA) was founded in 1924 and it was officially established in 1950. Over 60 years, KCA has been making great efforts not only to enhance Korean culinary standard and public health, but also to promote local cooks’ rights and interests. In 2008, KCA accomplished the bid to host 35th WACS Congress in Daejeon in 2012 at WACS Dubai Congeress and still keeps cooperating with WACS (World Association of Chefs Societies) and LTB (Les Toques Blanches) to broaden Korean Culinary into the world as a representative of Korea cooks. KCA is honored to select Korea national team to WACS Global Chefs Challenges and WACS endorsed international culinary competition as a member of WACS. In addition, KCA also hosts Korea International Culinary Competition every year.

35th WACS World Congress How to Feed the Planet in the Future
Congress in Brief The WACS World Congress is a hallmark tradition of WACS that has been organized in over 20 cities across the world throughout its illustrious 84 year history. The 35th WACS World Congress will bring leaders from national chefs associations, culinary industry, and professional chefs together to define their increasing roles and responsibilities as integral part of the global community and share strategic visions to realize them. Concurrently held during the unique 5 day congress are a city familiarization tour, two WACS endorsed global culinary competitions, a number of local culinary competitions, education programs, culinary exhibitions, forums and many exciting cultural and art events. Following the WACS Congress, the 2nd Asia and Oceania Best Sommelier Contest and the ASI(Association de la Sommellerie Internationale) Congress will be held from May 6~10.

Once again the Bill Gallagher Young Chefs Forum shall be run in conjunction with the WACS congress in Korea in 2012, the Forum makes up a very special part of the congress where young chefs from around the world will have a life time opportunity to meet their peers from around the world, learn about an exciting country and it’s cuisine and to participate in interactive work shops and sessions together that will help them forge life time friendships and contacts from around the world. The Bill Gallagher forum is designed to recognize the future leaders of the industry and during the congress in 2012 young chefs will be fully integrated into the congress as whole and also having dedicated sessions for them. Young chefs from around the world don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to take part in a very special event, and also not to miss the chance to meet in person Dr. Bill Gallagher, a great chef and inspiring human being. Hans Bueschkens Young Chefs Challenge Final ● May 3, 2012, Daejeon Convention Center
Named in honor of former WACS President, Hans Bueschkens whose vision was to embrace and encourage young chefs of the world to challenge themselves to learn and develop their talents as practitioners of the culinary arts. It has been a career trampoline for many young chefs. This 7th edition of the competition will see many ambitious young chefs from all over the world, competing and surpassing themselves.
Global Chefs Challenge Final ● May 4, 2012, Daejeon Convention Center
After 2 years of competitions with more than 600 local selections, 42 national championships and 7 continental finals, it has come down to 7 chefs to dispute the biannual Global Chef Challenge Title.
Associated Events Featuring 2nd Asia Oceania Best Sommelier Contest & ASI Congress ● May 6~10, 2012, Daejeon Convention Center
Following the inaugural contest held in Osaka, Japan in 2009. Asia Oceania Best Sommelier Contest and the ASI Congress will be held at the same venue of Daejeon Convention Center. It is one of the three ASI regional contests together with Europe and Americas contests held every three years by taking turns. Many world-class sommeliers from about 25 countries will compete for the best. Concurrently held the 3rd Korean Wine Sommelier Contest and exhibition will be an excellent opportunity to experience various unique Korean wines. The ASI Congress also will be held together in connection with the sommelier contest.

This 3rd edition of Global Chef Challenge has truly lived up to its name, with candidates from 42 nationalities coming from all continents participating in this global event.
