Artist Portfolio Magazine was created by artists for artists. It features artists from around the world, averages over 60,000 unique readers per issue and continues to grow. Terry Crump is an artist working in Houston Texas. He received a BFA degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Born and raised in Endicott, New York, he moved with his wife and two daughters to Texas in 1979. He worked as a Graphic Designer and Supervisor in a corporate environment until 1999, when his focus changed to mural painting. He presently concentrates on fine art painting in acrylics on canvas. His painting objective is to create unique landscape environments that reflect the complexities of contemporary life by utilizing dissonant subject mater against abstracted design elements.

Jim Lively is an attorney who left the practice of law to pursue his passion full-time as a contemporary figurative and abstract artist. My style of art is contemporary American abstract painting. I went to Metropolitan State University of Denver to receive my BFA and I just achieved my MFA from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts (PAFA). Over my time at PAFA, I created an autobiography titled Pendulum about what it is to have manic-depression through the eyes of a fine artist. My mission was to show that mental illness is not some blessing that artists have, but something that has affected every facet of my life detrimentally. After this deeply personal undertaking, I went back to the basics and began to explore the design elements of color and movement. Using ink on a plastic sheet of paper, watercolor and ink play and chase one another around the surface to make unexpected abstractions. I continue to draw realistically and paint abstractly simultaneously to keep my creative energy alive.
Looking deeper into the lighter aspects of my personality has been a fun and liberating
experience. All artists are tortured by our gift and drive to create what is in our souls. I am continuously delightfully surprised by what I find. Currently I have gone back to school to get a Masters in Art Therapy and Counseling.

Nataliya Scheib is an artist mostly known for her portraits and figurative paintings. She was born and raised in Ukraine and currently lives and works in Houston, TX. Nataliya has been involved in various forms of art thoughtout her life. She loved art from an early age, and at the age of 11 Nataliya entered an intensive 4-year program at an art school, where she learned classical painting techniques. After receiving a BA in Architecture, Nataliya began her career as an architect and later earned a Master’s degree in City Planning and civil engineering. After moving to Houston, Nataliya continued her art education at the Glassell School of Art with the Houston Museum of Fine Arts in Houston TX. Nataliya appreciates all forms of art. In her work she loves to combine traditional painting styles with variety of contemporary art making techniques. She is influenced by old masters, expressionists, and contemporary artists. Her work has been included in several exhibitions including Lawndale Art Center, Houston, Texas; North Gallery Department of Art and Design of San Jacinta College in Houston, Texas; Fine Art Museum in Gadsden, Alabama; and Nicolet Gallery, Nicolet College, Wisconsin. She has received several awards for her oil paintings, and her paintings were selected among 79 artists of the United States for 2014 collection of Art Buzz publication, Volume 7.

Influenced by light, spaces of otherness, secrets, magic, and the unusually usual, I'll wander the streets of San Pedro, California in an attempt to preserve these moments. I live in a sea foam green house with a large backyard where I like to garden. I'm lucky enough to have a small studio space at the renowned Angels Gate Cultural Center and intern part time for Photographer David LaChapelle. I recently published the very first issue of a ninety page, independent art magazine called, "Slow Toast" which you can check out here: www.slowtoast.bigcartel.com. It features eighteen different artists (myself included) from around the world. I take pictures and make art simply because I have to. It is a life long compulsion. My photos are simultaneously my escape and my way of attempting to show others the way I see the world. The joy is in finding the magic in the mundane; appreciating the little things because they are what matter most.

I was born in Brazil and moved to Houston in early 90s. I have worked with ballet dancing and also was part of an acting company called Pitu for nine years in Brasilia. I have continued my acting carrier in Rio de Janeiro where I worked in many different plays and musicals . Later I had the chance to work for a local TV network in some soap operas , TV series and participated in a few movies. I have participated in the Orpheus and Eurydikes opera in Chicago with the Parachute Performance group. - Director Johannes Birringer. Performing arts push me into the visual art world and allowed me to develop a very interesting fusion of both acting and visual techniques and creativities. I have done many group and individual exhibitions in Houston, Europe and South America and have attended a few art residency programs in Vermont Studio Center and Virginia Creative Center of Art in Virginia. I had been awarded with a scholarship at Glassell school of art in Houston and took some other collage, assemblage, drawing, painting and mixed media classes, as well. In 2011 I have received two awards (Third place and a Honorable Mention) in a group show curate by Mr Bert Long at the Archway Gallery in Houston. In 2013, for the first time my art works were exposed at the Art Car Museum in Houston in an exhibition called “Full Circle�, from January to June. I am always researching , recycling and sharing ideas about new techniques and experiments and I want my art to be strong , provocative and an instrument to promote the art as an educational and cultural valuable tool for the society.

Hristi Wilbur was born in Pleven, Bulgaria in 1971. Her artistic training began with specialized classes at age 11 and continued on by attending High School for Fine Arts focusing exclusively on realistic drawing and oil painting. In 1998 she graduated from The National Academy of Art in Sofia, Bulgaria earning a Masters in Fine Arts and a Minor in Art Education. For three years she worked as a freelance artist selling her portraits, landscapes and still lives. Upon receiving a Green Card by lottery, she moved to New York City in 2001 where her artistic endeavors continued with extensive work on a variety of mural projects and acrylic experimentations. Hristi has a versatile style ranging from and often combining realism and abstraction. In her recent works she is using a variety of materials including acrylics, textile and mixed media collages. In 2006 Hristi moved to Phoenix, Arizona where she currently resides. She continues to work on paintings and mural projects as well as sharing her passion for art with her students as an art educator.

Lori has been a visual arts instructor for 29 years. For the last 18 years, she has worked primarily with students Kindergarden through Sixth Grade and with at risk high school student. Creating connections with local buisness and galleries, students in her art programs have had the opportunity to exhibit and share their passions with the public. In addition, she worked with classroom teachers at the Central Coast Center for Arts Education at Cal Poly, emphasing arts integration with core subject for Kindergarten through Sixth grade education. Lori has been making her own art for over 30 years. She has exhibited her work in galleries and museums in Los Angeles, Orange County and the Central Coast. Jean Reece Wilkey is an American artist based in New Mexico whose work combines the figure, animals and objects to explore aspects of perception, identity, and our relationship to nature. Wilkey earned a bachelor of fine arts and master of education degrees before embarking on a period of travel that included living and working in Honduras, Costa Rica and Israel. In 2008 she was awarded a Master of Fine Arts degree in painting from New Mexico State University. Wilkey has exhibited nationally and internationally, has been the recipient of fellowships and awards, and her work has been collected by individuals in more than a dozen countries. She recently exhibited work at Las Cruces Museum of Art and currently is showing work in the Best and the Brightest in Scottsdale. She is a founding member of the Praxis Collective, a group of women dedicated to artistic practice, education and scholarship. She currently lives in Las Cruces, NM and paints full time. After a career as a creative director for consumer magazines, spanning over 30 years, I've stepped away from that career to devote my efforts to painting full time. I have explored various themes in my work. The immersion/emerging series is an exploration of the personal meaning I find in the translucent dialog between images of natural forms and those of young children, with their not-quite-soild presence in the world. I'm also interested in issues of scale, and the power that a relatively large size gives to the human face, particularly those of young children. I've recently begun a series as well of very small pieces, which, with their intimate scale, engage the viewer in a very different way. Recent work also explores my emotional response to the natural world, with young women—representing an ideal feminine—embedded as part of that world.

Galina Dargery is a painter and photographer who had studied at Manhattanville College and SUNY. She was born in France, raised there and in the US which influenced her love of art, travel photography and food. She has combined these passions in her figurative paintings which are representations of beautiful, sensual women who take total pleasure in food, specifically desserts, with no regret or guilt, finding in food the joys of comfort, satisfaction, and tantalizing sensations. They accept and revel in their desire for food, and, in their acceptance, abandon themselves to pleasure, unafraid of these temptations. For the viewer, they seem temptresses. There is always an aspect of the Garden of Eden in the paintings.

Rina Dweck is a multi media artist whose work confronts the self-portrait, examining the ways that identity can be simultaneously stagnant and changing. A trained painter, Dweck transforms her own face into a canvas that she approaches with new fervor over and over, adding and removing props and disguises. Her works explore how one face can exude diverse meanings. These painted canvases also suggest a 3 dimensionality, as documents of sculptures to which Dweck adds feathers, hats, and various regalia. Dweck views the photograph as the capturing of a moment, and the moments she captures on her own face are pieces in a larger trajectory, moments in a grander performance that define her aesthetic. Presented here are pieces from her ongoing large scale Polaroid series, Sides and small scale Polaroid series, Quotidian, multi media pieces from her time at the Vermont Residency, and pieces from her 365 image work, Project Face. The artist is hyperaware of the role of the face in contemporary society, especially within the realm of social media and on the internet. Over the course of 2011-2012, Dweck created a 365-piece work called Project Face, in which she changed her look and Facebook profile page each day for a year. From these roots, Dweck has further delved into the notion of the selfie, photographing, painting, and documenting different sides of herself. Growing up in Brooklyn with both Middle Eastern and European roots, Dweck has always been fascinated by expressions of multicultural identity. Through the selfie, Dweck questions the popular conception of this one sided mode of expression, exploring every side of her own self – be it fresh from the shower or disguised under wigs, ribbons, paint, and cultural paraphernalia. Dweck is intent on bringing her own identity to the fore, be it on a small scale, or in the larger prints of Sides. Her ongoing large scale Polaroid project Sides is a journey into observation that questions how viewers perceive her self portraiture. These works feature the artist in various guises and scenarios, prompting viewers to question the identity of each subject. Viewers must decipher who these characters really are, recognizing the nuances large and small that cause them to see each piece, each feature under disguise, differently. Polaroid film, much like the instantaneous digital camera or iPhone snapshot, is synonymous with capturing an immediate moment in time. Unlike modern technology however, each piece here represents a moment that cannot be recreated, but an irreproducible, individualized moment much like painting. The artist returns to painting in her Vermont works, yet these multimedia forays break from the consistency of her Polaroids and iPhone photographs in both scale and form. Woven collage and found objects adorn each piece, which come together most fully in their intricacy and attention to detail. The artist’s use of found objects to construct works is reminiscent of sculptural installation. The Vermont series demonstrates how Dweck’s artistic interests are not simply reproductions of her face, but question the notion of self portraiture, exploring more complex themes such as disguise, identity, and cultural ornamentation. Dweck imbues the self portrait with new meaning in her intent focus on this individual style that she addresses over and over again in so many diverse media.

I feel fortunate to be able to express myself through art. I constantly feel the desire to paint. Painting allows me to share my feelings about what I come in contact with in my life with those who view my art. It is rewarding to hear people think of my paintings when they see natural beauty. I feel that through viewing what I've painted, they are able to see outside their own vision. My paintings express my inner response to the external world. I paint what I feel, not necessarily what is in front of me. I love working with color and am fascinated with the feeling a change of color can bring to a painting. I begin my paintings based on life or a photo, and soon the process of making choices of colors or placement of shapes takes over. I enjoy painting in oils and acrylics and experimenting with pattern and color through collage. My art education is primarily through the Art Students League of New York.

Hildy Maze graduated from Pratt Institute. Her work is influenced by her 25 year study and practice of Tibetan Buddhist meditation involving the recognition of the basic nature of mind, that vast space that accommodates all life and death that is unborn, intrinsic, original, uncreated, clear empty awareness. Mind is already complete and perfect. Hidly’s work visually investigates and plays with how we obscure our recognition of these intrinsic qualities of mind. The provocative titles help to create an attentive environment. Teri McCans is a watercolor and mixed media artist who was born in Freehold, NJ and now lives and creates in Millstone, NJ. McCans’ experiences have shown her the best and worst of humanity. They have filled her with incredible sadness, joy, shame, and pride. Through her experiences in the military and as a firefighter, she has experienced firsthand the intersection of tragedy and beauty. Her artwork is an attempt to process this dichotomy; to give order, cleanliness, and detail to chaos. McCans’ compositions explore strained conflicts between stability vs. fragility, strength vs. weakness, and male vs. female. She gravitates towards watercolor because of its calming and near-medicinal characteristics and it serves as a counterpoint to these themes. She translates her personal response to conflict through a meticulous control of color, a clean aesthetic, and a deliberate use of negative space. “This collection of images is part of a portraiture series inspired by the conflicts presented through false identity. Watercolor creates an illusory effect, masking identity and insinuating artificiality. These are identities that are asphyxiated below a false landscape. They are stripped. Simplicity, shape, and shadow are all that remain.”
