Introduction by Jeff Whiting President & Founder, Artists for Conservation We are extremely proud to welcome you to our fifth annual Artists for Conservation Festival presented by RE/MAX. During this milestone year, we’ve grown to occupy two venues: the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel and Grouse Mountain. The two are among the most exciting possible locations for an art event in eastern Canada. At AFC, we’re passionate ambassadors for nature with a deep reverence toward our natural history. In this 8th year of AFC’s annual art exhibit, we are privileged to bring together leading artists from around the world to lend their voice to wildlife worldwide. It’s an unparalleled chance for the public to meet these talented and dedicated artists. There is an unhealthy and growing disconnect in society, away from the natural world that supports us. The Artists for Conservation Festival represents a cultural movement, and the embodiment of applied art – that is, art in action to change the world. It’s our responsibility as artists, to use our talents and convictions to inspire the public and youth of tomorrow, to take action to protect what remains of this planet’s natural wonders. Each painting or sculpture has an important conservation story each artist is eager to share. The AFC Festival is a profoundly inspiring event for all, and for artists, it is a “gathering of the clans” . A heartfelt thank you to the artists, volunteers, sponsors - including RE/MAX and Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada - musicians, patrons, jurors, partners, and our event hosts - Fairmont Waterfront nd Grouse Mountain - graciously providing facilities and staff support over 3 weeks. Enjoy your time at this important event.

About Artists for Conservation The World’s Leading Artist Group Supporting the Environment
“Our mission is to support wildlife and habitat conservation, and environmental education through art that celebrates nature.” Many artists today are active participants in an important awareness and educational movement, channelling artistic talent toward connecting the public to nature to inspire awareness, appreciation and action. At the forefront of this movement is AFC. Founded in 1997 by artist and biologist Jeff Whiting, AFC is the world’s leading artist group supporting the environment. Dedicated to nurture, promote and leverage its world-class community of artists in support of our natural world, AFC drives its mission through three key pillars: Art & Environmental Education; Field Work & Research; and Artist Development. The Artists for Conservation Festival is AFC’s annual flagship initiative to support, showcase and further these three pillars.
AFC Programs AFC’s Annual Juried Exhibit recognizes artists for their commitment to artistic excellence and conservation, raises awareness of conservation issues, and directly supports conservation organizations through the sale of artwork. AFC’s Flag Expeditions Program facilitates collaborative art and science field work to study and promote endangered species and their vanishing habitats and fosters a broader representation of the world’s biodiversity in art. AFC’s Explorers Program brings together teams of professional artists, leading subject matter experts and university level students on field expeditions to study wildlife, their environments and the conservation issues that concern them. AFC Documentary Films: Since 2011 AFC has been producing a series of short documentary films titled “Portraits of the Planet”. Each episode highlights artists working in different and exotic wilderness environments and tells inspiring art and conservation stories featuring AFC artists. AFC’s Art for Conservation Program provides an online venue at www.artistsforconservation.org for the sale of artwork with a portion of the proceeds earmarked by the artists to support a conservation organization of their choice. AFC Awards exist to highlight excellence in conservation and art and to empower and reward passionate professional artists as effective ambassadors for the environment. ArtistsForConservation.org is the main portal supporting AFC programs and featuring thousand of artworks. 4
AFC’s Annual Art Exhibit AFC’s annual exhibit is the world’s top conservation-themed art show and has become one of the most highly anticipated annual events among the nature-inspired art genres. The goal of the exhibit is: 1) To support conservation through art sales and education; 2) To showcase the extraordinary pool of artistic talent within AFC; and 3) To share the nature-inspired art genre with new audiences. This year’s exhibit features 85 original artworks for sale by 80 leading nature and wildlife artists from around the world. 40% of the proceeds from the sale of each artwork support conservation initiatives around the world, including those at AFC.

2015 AFC Festival Patron Brent Cooke
2015 AFC Festival Patron AFC is proud to acknowledge Brent Cooke for his generous support of the 2015 AFC exhibit and festival. Proceeds support AFC’s art and environmental education programs. Brent explains, “As an artist specializing in wildlife, I am constantly approached by a wide range of organizations seeking support for their own various causes. When I became a member of AFC however, I realized this organization was of a quite different nature. Yes, it raised money to support the organization itself, but it went that one step further… encouraging member artists to donate a portion of their sales for conservation-centered charitable groups of their own choosing. The money donated goes directly to that charity with no associated fees being deducted by the AFC. Artists now support more than 200 other smaller wildlife-focused groups through these artist-directed donations. AFC’s philosophy and unique approach to cross-organizational support is the major factor behind my desire to be this year’s AFC Festival Patron.”
