Dear Readers , I am delighted to launch the new magazine “W & Art” under the brand “Art For Awareness”.This is the second magazine published by the brand.This magazine is designed to feature all kinds of Art, the wide range of talents of Internationally acclaimed and Upcoming Women artists around the globe.We have Painters, Sculptors, Poets and literary achievers in this First Edition.My motto is always to bring in more creativity and motivation to the artists.This gives me immense pleasure and of-course all the readers would be delighted too as the magazine unfolds some of the brilliant and outstanding efforts.

JANE BOYD Artists.Live Magazine

Artist Jane Boyd is a famous artist from Canada.She was born on the Summer Solstice during the early fifties in Montreal, Quebec and has lived in Toronto the past thirty-two years. She was always interested in fashion, design and art.After a twenty year career in the design field, She resumed her painting which had become dormant while She was raising her two children .”My husband of forty plus years is very supportive and helps me cart my gear from place to place I have four grandchildren and a well-travelled cat.”She says.

She is inspired by the French and Russian Impressionists and especially fond of her Canadian Group of Seven.(Artists) . A majority of her work is gathered from memories of her travels.She paints what she mostly feels and sees.

She also enjoys the creativity, meeting, talking and sharing ideas with other creative people. She is currently working on some larger art works and plans to develop what she has been working on and hopefully expose her work to many more people.

She is a self-taught artist. She attended a few workshops to get the fundamentals. She works exclusively with a palette knife.

She learnt to absorb and experiment by observing , adapting and evolving her own way of painting.

Her Favourite works include painting the land, sky and the sea. She belongs to a wonderful Plein Air Group in Florida called “‘The Light chasers “of the Sun Coast and also the Ontario Plein Air Society while in Canada.

A Harmoniuos Palette “I first started out working in Acrylics but found when I went out to Plein air paint especially in Florida they dried too fast for me. I like to work Alla Prima”wet into wet” so switched to oils’ sometimes drift back into Acrylics to create thank you notes on card stock for clients. I prefer to work in oils. I like the buttery feel of them and sometimes I add a little gel to create an Impasto effect.I find this works well with my palette knife.

Just like frosting a cake.” She explains when asked about the painting media and technique.

She likes moody and unpredictable colours and enjoys mixing and creating her own palette.She tries to paint every day even if it is just thinking about a colour palette for her next body of work.

Her Paintings Bloomsbury Series is bold and expressive as the colors form a rhythm and composition pleasing to the eyes.

Bloomsbury Her goal is not to render the subject exactly but rather to explore it with the paint and happily getting lost in the moment. A suggestion of the subject, a build-up of paint and exciting strokes with her favourite painting knife, until she ends up creating a beautiful masterpiece.Her works are Contemporary Impressionistic. A creation of an abstracted version of what is actually there but with the suggestion of things that are not seen but felt. Her landscapes are more about her impressions of these natural spaces rather than a description of these geographical places and how she felt while being there.

Jane Boyd skillfully brings in the atmosphere into her paintings.It is exciting to see the luminous effects that she succeeds to portray through the blues, yellows and greens that give a warm toned ground.

Of Land And Sky Besides being a passionate artist ,she is also an Artisan Doll Maker. Currently, she has been commissioned to make dolls for the rooms in the Devonshire Drake Inn, Wellington, Ontario. These dolls are anything but typical dolls.

They have an attitude about them. She loves creating the “Merrill Collection” and enjoy watching their personalities emerge. Some of them express themselves with tattoos and body piercings making them truly individual.

Sometimes she takes a break and works upon her dolls.

“Art takes us out of ourselves. It can make one think, lift one’s spirits when one is unhappy or create controversy. There is nothing like a trip to a gallery, a theatre, a movie or a concert hall to brighten one’s day!”

“Currently I am experimenting with a product called Cold Wax.You add the wax paste to your paint mixture and the best part is that you don’t have to heat it like Encaustics.The feel of the finished piece is very different in that it dries to a matte finish unlike oil,but one can buff it to a lovely satin shine...not unlike polishing furniture!” She adds!

MARIA BABLYAK Maria Bablyak is a well

known Artist .She was born in St. Petersburg, Russia. She was very fortunate to have been born in an artistic family. Her mother is an architect and a painter and her father was also an artist, teaching art composition and metals design to a university level students at a prestigious art college. She was taken to beautiful museums during her childhood where her parents patiently taught her about art, making it more interesting for her.

She grew up surrounded by art, often visiting her parent’s work places and spending days at her father’s studio. Although her parents never suggested to her that she has to be an artist, giving her a perfect freedom to choose her own path, she certainly had access to all kinds of art and could experience artistic life from an early age. That’s when she learnt that art requires a lot of work and discipline. When she was around 12 years old, her parents assured her that she has the talent and then her professional journey began.

Naturally, her parents were and still are her first and great source of inspiration and also the beautiful city, where she was born. It was so rich in art and culture. She likes and appreciates good artwork done in any style and medium.

“There is always something special to learn from every good artist. However, I do not follow any -ism, I choose medium and style expressing the best what I want to say at the moment.

Of course, I learned art history, all movements in the art with their techniques but at this point I let life itself to be my inspiration. “She says!

Besides all the help She could get at home from her parents Maria was sent to a Youth Art School when she was 12 years old ,where she started learning art history and professional skills in drawing, painting and composition. Then for two years she went to a prep school attached to the college she entered later for MFA, the Academy of Fine Art and Design.

Besides that, she also attended private lessons at the studios of the best professors of painting prior to entering the Art Academy.

She likes to be diverse and has lot of projects on her mind. Currently she is working on two series of paintings, more of abstract and symbolic than her earlier works. One is based on Native American names for the full moon every month and another one is based on different dance forms.

She started with tango since she likes dancing the tango, she was inspired and is plans to create paintings inspired by many dances from different cultures. She is also interested in textiles. She has been painting on different fabrics, creating wearable art as well as decorative hangings. In a near future she designs to open a company making and selling accessories, mainly scarves and hats. “ At the same time I shall continue studying textile art history and techniques of all cultures; hopefully, I shall be able to travel for my research.” She says!

Blue Jays In her botanical illustration work, she creates paintings showing wild plants which are considered weeds by many but have been used for medicinal purpose for ages. Those plants are quite beautiful but often overshadowed by more decorative and colorful garden flowers.

She primarily works in oil and acrylic but often uses watercolours, gouache or casein paints. For textiles she uses special dyes for the natural fabrics.

She believes that each subject, story that she wants to tell requires its own approach.

“Some can be expressed better in oil paint, other in watercolour, all depends on what I want to say, what effect to get in my work at that moment.

I feel equally comfortable working in different mediums and even experiment with new ones. “she says!

She is also interested in new brain/neurological studies, how that is connected with colour theory which she has been studying and how these new discoveries can be applied in art, to be helpful for larger number of people.

She loves just living, being able to observe, feel, see, think and enjoy life. To have and absorb different experiences through travel, meeting people, reading, thinking, sometimes personal life and then reflect and share what she learned in her artworks . She dislikes when people don’t get along. She is not fond of politics and when religious belief is used for misleading people and creating division,Propaganda. Racism, sexism and oppression of women’s rights. On a personal level, she hates disrespect.

OLANA Maria Bablyak chooses different range of colors in her palatte.Her works display quick brush strokes which create a vibrant impact .Most of the tones and colors are blended swiftly with few crisp touches here and there that bring into focus the entire composition.Her paintings “Blue Jays”and “Olana “are beautiful compositions and brushwork which display a harmonious palette with smoothly blended colors.

The “Blue Winter”is abstract artwork which has been created using limited colors but the yellow and orange strike through the blues in harmony with the bold visible brushstrokes.

She advises the upcoming artists to never get discouraged by anyone or by any frustrations with own work and tells though it is very hard for an artist, especially while learning the skills but at the end being an artist is most rewarding.

“Learn skills very well first, then express yourself. Art skills is like a language. Learn art history but do not follow anyone but your own heart. Make sincere art, it will stand test of times.” She says!

When asked about an artist’s role in our society she says “I want to say avant-garde in thinking. A story telling, recording history. Teaching. Showing, communicating things often neglected or unseen. Healing, promoting creativity and liberating !”

BARBARA PEDRAZA Famous Lyricist Barbara Pedraza, currently lives in La

Puente, California, United States,in the suburbs of one of the largest cities in the world Los Angeles She has lived here since 1967, grew up and also brought up a son.

She started writing at a very early age. She drew also, using tweed canvas and black paint then.

But, her path in life turned out differently. A career was needed as a way to carry her through life. She started as a clerk at a hospital in Los Angeles, California, USA. Right after high school and there She worked for the last 33 years.

During her working years, there was a time when she needed a venue outside of work life..... and the lyrics came into being. At first it was poetry, but others said that she had a gift for lyric writing. Then she started her writing lyrics and since last 14 years she contributed her songs around the world. Every lyric is written to give some meaning to life. For her it was a learning experience, a joyful one, and an honor beyond measure.

She has songs in Australia, Greece, India, Ireland, United Kingdom, and the United States. She has written 1000s of lyrics and with every word comes a peace, and heart receiving joy.

She says “It has been an honor truly writing for all of you. Your work is so amazingly creative and beautiful. Thank you is especially given to all who prepare and give there all to this Art for Women’s Magazine. You should be proud of what you have accomplished.

Barbara Pedraza is one of a genius kind of Lyricist and a beautiful woman inside out .Her lyrics are spontaneous and flow like the endless river.As she shares some of her beautiful lines with us,It is truly a joy for us reading them and a proud moment for publishing her poetry in the first edition of W&Art.

ALKA CHADHA

Artist Dr.Alka Chadha Harpalani was born in Ludhiana, Punjab, In-

dia. She was inclined towards art since her childhood and got a chance to pursue arts and do BFA in painting from College of Arts, Chandigarh from 1991-95. Later on, she went to Faculty of Visual Arts, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi for MFA (1995-97) & Ph.D. (awarded in 2004).

The specialization kept on pushing her on the track of creativity and made her an artist.

She is an Assistant Professor in Meerut but on leave right now. She is working from home, writing e-papers and doing content writing of demonstrations by renowned artists for an MHRD project of Dayalbag University, Agra. Her day passes managing research work with sketching, doodling a few ideas for painting and sometimes reading and writing poetry too.

“I usually work on my feelings, experiences and memories. My current series is ‘WE’ – which includes the elements from my life after marriage and bonding of the phase. It is a reflection of love, friendship, motherhood/ conception of a baby and even little mementos of this new twist in my life. As the world of imagination and creativity is boundless, I would like to merge boundaries of different mediums and introduce installation more often along with my paintings to support the theme. I want to engage the emotions of the spectator, by inviting them to dwell imaginatively by delimitation of any line between them and art, so that they can reach out and identify with the objects surrounding them. . Like Vincent Van Gogh said: “As practice makes perfect, I cannot but make progress; each drawing one makes, each study one paints, is a step forward.”She Says

She loves working in mixed media – acrylics, dry pastels, drawing inks, markers, collage etc. Varied mediums trigger her imagination and coax her to explore myriad possibilities in her expression.

She sometimes installs a related object along with her paintings to create a visual dialogue between object, painting, and spectator.

She likes to write poetry and read books.

Listening to music and aesthetically and frequently making changes in interiors of her home is in the list of her passions too.

It is integral to the work of an artist to Identify with creation Not to create just as per market demand and turn artwork into a fad.

To exploit, experiment and to accept criticism in a healthy way as the perception of the artist may vary to that of the viewer and be true to oneself and the creation.She explains.

She calls her style ‘Expressionism’ – where for an apt expression she uses mixed media to integrate her sensations into coherent painterly forms, where one can see intensification, clarification, and interpretation of experiences in various degrees. The brushwork is a declaration of her personal freedom where mixed media supports her in creating visual variety. In a few words, it’s a correspondence between feeling, form, and technique, where her painting continues to change and grow at every step. The whole essence is to work the subject down to simplest form despite reflecting complex emotions or experiences. Like John Berger said- “Drawing is a way of coming upon the connection between things, just like metaphor in poetry reconnects what has been separated.”

An artist’s work should reach out to the spectator, where the viewer can identify with the projections and the world of colors and expression which surround him. An artist’s artwork may be full of personal symbols, action, drama, beautiful as well as crude things, but can also act in filling the void where the world has become so mechanical and men often endanger their sanity “by forgetting that intellect is only one-half of man’s spiritual life; the other half and perhaps the dominant one is that of feeling.”She Says!

Nostalgia, memories, ‘something or nothing’, love, friendship etc.

- all the reflected separately or even together in one frame at a few places in her paintings. Her own experiences – positive or negative, events in her life, simple things around her – all inspire her to express herself through her art which is an amalgamation of images and calligraphy that acts as a design in the background.

She has been impressed by myriad things of numerous artists like ornamental background of Klimt; strokes charged with emotions of Van Gogh; movement in lines of Degas; endless possibilities of accidental flow of colour in Pollock’s work; frottage of Max Ernst; visual repetition of Andy Warhol; assemblages of Picasso; linear energy of Paul Klee etc. She likes the self-portraits of Frida Kahlo, installations of Vivan Sundaram, symbolic representations of Arpana Caur, boldness in the display of Anish Kapoor, a performance of Ein Lal & Ratnabali Kant, rhythmic lines of Jatin Das etc.

Her paintings are like a pictorial diary of hers, in a way, where each page reflects similar or varied thought and stimulates the imagination further.

Her Favorite Paintings include series on ‘Travelling’, where she posted railway and platform tickets in the paintings for an apt expression. ‘Imprints of Varanasi’ made her explore traditional elements, which touched the cords of her a spiritual streak. This series has the collage of Holy Scriptures supporting the elements of ‘ghats’, ‘kalash’, ritualistic red and orange shades with scribbles of Mantras in the background. ‘Memory bag’ consists of the collection of memories of the time she spent in Chandigarh and Varanasi. ‘Nostalgia’ shows cassette and tape recorder depicting her memories of the time which will never return in this era of technology.

She also loves her latest work ‘Unfinished story: you & me’.

My only advice to upcoming artists is not to make art a fad. Usually upcoming artists look for a short cut and lose their identity by following the styles of established artists. Their motive should be to be original, by absorbing the ideas from the artists who inspire them and bring out those inspirations in their own style and not vomit them out exactly the same.

Artist Dr.Alka Chadha Paintings are very contemporary, unique and bring in the lost times onto the mind, where memories play a soft lullaby.

GALINA SARGEEVA

Artist Galina Alexandrovna Sergeeva was born in

Russia, in the city Voronezh. Her parents were her first teachers of drawing. Graduated from Art College, She is an Art and Drawing faculty of Kursk Pedagogical University. She has a Diploma thesis a series of landscapes “Historical places of Gurzuf� and the accompanying article devoted to the features of teaching the open-air painting.

A few years has worked as a teacher of painting and drawing at the Art School in Voronezh, then she was engaged in interior and furniture design. Besides easel painting has studied bases and history of origin Polach (lacquer miniature painting in old Russian tradition), also icon painting. Worked above various projects in this area, including within some years Galina painted the iconostasis of the Assumption Church in of the Diocese of Lipetsk, Russia.

The favorite places for painting an open-air – Crimea and India.

The last personal exhibition passed from 25 January to 28 February 2017 at the Palace of Congresses, Saint Petersburg.

Works are in private collections of Russia, Germany, Japan, France, Canada, the USA, Poland, Denmark, Sweden, etc. the countries.

“In general I paint from nature. So, my workplace is where my nature...is the lovely themes landscapes of the small streets with own history, still-life’s and portraits of interesting people, life close-up” she says!

There are many names, at different stages, we turn to the knowledge to learn from people with different experience. But if to speak about someone forever - it’s Vincent Van Gogh and Mikhail Vrabel who inspired her a lot. Optical light effects of their painting are mesmerizing... and gives strength...Also is the open-air painting of the Konstantin Korovin. His feeling of color and subtle transmission of air medium is too close to her soul.

SATWANT SAYAN

Satwant Sayan is a well-known Artist from New Delhi,India. She weaves in delicately her stories in her beautiful intricate drawings, her subject ranging from Buddha and devotion to the spiritual journey of the soul. Using acrylics pen and ink on paper each work speaks the distinct story of the Artist herself. She has been selected as the artist of the month of the gallery “The Third Eye,” in 2013, with her name displayed in Times of India news edition daily for a month. Her works were also displayed in the UBC mall bang lore in 2013. She has participated in many group art shows held all over India including Lalit Kala Academy.

Satwant Sayan holding a degree in Arts and fashion designing has also contributed a lot as the coordinator and a fashion designer in JK Exports and Alankar exports, New Delhi.

“For me, I always loved art ever since I was a little girl. I always loved drawing, and even back in elementary school, I had a big passion for drawing. That passion still continues today.

I am inspired by life. The morning sun to chirping birds or the silence or nature. Everything seems inspiring for my creativity keep working and learning new things. Never give up and practice a lot with dedication and focus! “She Says!

She was inspired a lot by great painters like M.F.Husain, Jamini Roy, Jogen Choudhury, Vincent Van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, Anjolie Ela Menon, and Sanatan Dinda who have been able to catch the eye of art lovers worldwide and were able to sell their works globally. She believes inspiration is everywhere, we just need to open our mind and notice it. She also seeks inspiration from other Artist’s, all of her learning is an accumulation of different artists who have influenced her throughout her life journey.

She believes art is one of the ways to connect one’s thoughts with the society, something very divine and magical. Art is not what we see but we make other’s see, more over it is the expressions of mind creativity. It reflects the inner state of an artist on canvas and also feel art is non-verbal language connects to one’s soul and heart.

Abstraction in art allows a man to see with his mind what he cannot see with his eyes. From the very beginning of human history, nature has played a vital role as a creative expression. Nothing much makes me happy as to observe nature and to paint what I see”She says !

W & Art She works in most of the mediums but prefers more to work with the acrylic, water color and pen-ink in rhythmic lines. It’s always a pleasure for her working in pen-ink with acrylic. Her Buddha series is an example because rhythmic lines inspire and create dynamic art, to show more skill, illusion, imagination.

Currently, she is working on Buddha series. “It’s extremely satisfying and serene. I love working on Buddha series with techniques such as rhythmic lines with pen-ink and acrylic on canvas. It’s very much fascinating and creative. Also working on a couple of series simultaneously. Each and every subject matter carries its own importance. When I get involved in something, it has to be in depth...”She tells us.

Her future plans are to open art schools in India as well as abroad, to keep her passion alive, stay motivated and focused and expect the same to impart to a future generation.

She also loves to cook and feels cooking is also an art like other artistic media, so presentation part is equally important as the taste, aroma, and texture of what is served.

She also likes Interior Designing, Fashion Designing, and Music.

She usually paints cubist style, figurative, surreal but prefers contemporary abstract figurative paintings. She also loves working in abstracts.

“Mostly my paintings are theme oriented, so color palette plays a vital role, moreover it is very important to choose the right color as each color carries its own meaning and significance which further helps in reflecting the expression and communication. As it is said art is communicating and it reflects the inner state and expression of an artist” She says!

She uses the color palette of bright shades to symbolize richness and uses shades of ochre, brown and yellow to give a warm and golden look symbolizing illumination, love, compassion, courage, passion, and magic.

“I have inspiration and it feels quite fulfilling for me to express myself in music.

I can gather ideas even from watching a paint and compose something out of it.. or just feelings, and a lot of imagination usable info my songwriting. My songwriting process is easy, I open my studio and devote myself to play something, then I work it and add more sounds and know how I want it to sound normal. Piano students tend to do recitals several times a year, but the rest of the instrumental (and sometimes vocal) world doesn’t do enough performing. “Never give up. DEBBIE GARDENER Her first inspirations were cartoon characters when she was young. Now it’s more of a collective picture or scene that inspires her. There are different artists that she admires.She loves Banksy for his artwork and his messages. His message always seems to strike a chord with her. She loves Van Gogh’s use of colour as well as Matisse and the business of Klimt.

Her biggest inspiration is the immense artistic talent of people on Facebook.

Looking at this gorgeous eclectic collection always inspires her to do more, try different things.

Artist Debbie Gardener was

born in Winchester, UK. She first started drawing in pencil when she was a child, about 8yrs old. She really only used the pencil than to draw the outlines of a character and then colour it in with felt tip coloured pens. Later when she was much older She started to create the whole picture with pencils using shading.

She recently immigrated to Italy from the UK.She is looking forward to being inspired by her new surroundings and all the challenges of a living in a new city. She feels living in a city like Milan offers so many opportunities for inspiration - from the architecture (like the glorious cathedral), the countryside and mountains and the differences in the people that capture her eye and make her explore.

She describes her sketching process and says “I usually like to put down a faint outline first and then work within that. I go over different areas lightly to get a sense of balance within the picture. Then I will start more seriously with an area and gradually move around the paper. I am also constantly looking at the whole picture and will tweak areas as the drawing becomes more pronounced.

I am a bit of a perfectionist, so I get quite frustrated with myself when I’m drawing from real life.

I much prefer to draw from photos so that what I am looking at is not constantly changing.”

An average day usually consists of her sitting at her drawing table working, checking her computer, taking her pet dog for a walk and eating!She likes to relax in the evening with her partner. Her drawing table is like a magnet to her.

She has recently started knitting! Her mother is a fantastic knitter and always has been her inspiration. She likes to knit toys and made a lot of dolls and teddies last Christmas and a few baby clothes!

DEEPIKA BIJAWAT

Artist Deepika Bijawat was born

in Jaipur (Rajasthan, India).

She did her schooling from Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls’ School, Jaipur.She later went to National Institute of Fashion Technology, which was believed to be the ‘sacred’ design Institute of India.

Very soon she realized that she was drifting from her childhood passion and within six months left that institution. Her father who is an ambitious businessman and mother, a dexterous homemaker had always supported her. So to pursue her dream to become an artist, She joined International College for Girls in 2003 as a student of Fine Arts(BFA-Sculpture).

Her life as an artist began there. During her first year of college at I.C.G. Jaipur, she had a month long module of clay modeling.

This added a spark to her dream. She was lucky that her creative aspirations got enhanced and with inspiration and support from her teachers.

“Sculpting is something unique. It does not require any wall for support. It is an object that can stand independently, having mass and volume.

This form of creativity allows me to work on negative and positive space in three dimensions.

We all are passionate about something or the other but it is sculpting that creates my private world of which we all crave for; it’s like meditation.”Deepika says!

My Cow

Deepika works on different expressions of relationships and emotions (Rasas) through portraits in metal and terracotta.

The spirit of learning and experimenting is an artist’s forte, which is depicted enthusiastically.

She loves to observe the gestures, postures, and emotions of animals and humans.She finds the process of creation by the almighty in itself is very miraculous and enigmatic.

‘The naïve mother & child’

The clay is first cleaned and kneaded. If it is too wet, it is kept for a while so that perfect temperature is achieved.

It is a slow process, which involves seeing, perceiving and creating. Slowly the clay is given shape and it becomes a unified composition. It’s not through a book or a picture for reference, but her personal experiences and aesthetics that she applies. she plays with the negative and positive space and keeps the sculpture well packed and hydrated for the next day to work.

Photography has been her childhood passion.

Rageshshree Shankar Thorat persued her BFA from Raviraj College Of Fine Arts,and has been painting for over 5 years. Her career choice started out to become a dancer but soon she found her desire to paint. Her favourite palette of colours are usually shades and cool hues that include turquoise, cerulean blue, Prussian blue, black. She believes her drawing and painting allows the viewer to see the colour of their own imagination. She usually works in mixed media. Which has different textures and forms. She believes everything gets an expression and form when used at right place. Sweta Parmar Author of three books and a poetess ,belongs to the pink city of Rajasthan,

Jaipur. She was born and brought up here. After completing her graduation she lived in Delhi and tried to become a skilled homemaker after she got married. THE WAY OF LIFE The way of life is very complicated, sometimes very formal and sometimes exaggerated.

Wandering in the dreams in snow on sleigh, none is having a little time to play.

Always roaming on a roller coaster ride, no matter what though afraid of the slide.

Earlier the feelings are from heart, which always remains the same as in start.

Time is the best healer as well as the killer of emotions, nothing to be changed when divided into fractions.

Seldom the mode turned around and played a game, never again the real life remained the same.

So much anger is wrapped around in heart, without any solution of tearing apart.

Moreover, some say ...... love you like life, sarcastically they are amazed to make someone. A wife.

The way to travel is full of bits ‘n’ pitches, so many obstacles but if one is sure ....reach(es).

Nevertheless, the destined “will” is made to mature, looking at the sky and ready to assure.
