Slimming World are famous for their fakeaways and their curries are some of the best. Whether you are on plan or not this is packed full of flavour and will leave you feeling full and satisfied! Method:
Serves: 4 Ready in: 50 Syns per serving: FREE
1. Put the chicken in a bowl, sprinkle with the tikka curry powder and toss to coat well. Set aside. 2. Put the garlic, ginger, coriander, remaining spices and 100ml water in a small food processor and blitz to a paste (or use a stick blender and a jug). 3. Place a non-stick saucepan over a medium heat, add the paste and cook for 5 minutes. Add the diced onion and tomato purée and cook for 5 minutes or until soft, then add the sliced onions and peppers to the pan and cook for 10 minutes. 4. Reduce the heat to low, add the chicken and cook for 15 minutes or until the chicken is cooked. Add the passata, stock cube and 200ml boiling water and cook for a further 10 minutes. 5. Stir in the yogurt, bring back to a simmer and serve with plain boiled rice and Speed veg.
Ingredients:
• 4 skinless and boneless chicken breasts, cut into bitesize chunks • 2 tbsp medium tikka curry powder* • 4 garlic cloves, chopped • 5cm piece fresh root ginger, peeled and chopped • ½ small pack fresh coriander • 2 tbsp medium curry powder* • ¼ tsp chilli powder • 2 tsp ground cumin • ½ tsp garam masala* • 4 tsp ground coriander • 1 tsp smoked paprika • 1 large onion, diced • 4 tbsp tomato purée • 2 large red onions, sliced • 2 red peppers, deseeded and cut into chunks • 250g passata • 1 chicken stock cube, crumbled • 2 tbsp fat-free natural yogurt
PHOENIX BOWLS CLUB
What an inspiration, when looking at the main picture of Ken Bond and Richard Atterbury picking up their Phoenix Bowls Clubs Internal Knock Out Trophies and medals at last night’s Club Presentation Night held at the Old School House in Swanwick.
It just shows what determination and commitment can achieve, Ken joined our club in 2019 he is one of our original club members, and Richard one of our newest club members he joined in 2021, neither of them had any bowling experience before joining our club. (We provide free coaching to any club members that ask for it).
Ken took the winners’ Cup, and Richard took the Runners up Shield, in a fiercely fought battle to the very end. But, as can be seen from the picture, rivalry soon ends when we are off the green.
The other pictures show the club members enjoying themselves during the evening. There was Play Your Cards Right and Avis put on a Picture Quiz for the more intellectual members.
The evening was a roaring success with stories of past games and Stan, the Father of the Club now aged 84, telling a couple of his military monologues which were received with great enthusiasm by all members.
The committee and club members wish to thank all who made the evening such a success. We are all looking forward to next year’s event when maybe, just maybe, there will be a women’s knockout competition to add to the festivities.
I personally would like to thank Avis and Mick to name but two (there are many more I could name believe me). May I say, to those I have not mentioned, your tireless efforts in making the evening such a success have not, and will not be forgotten. I would also like to say that it is such a joy to be the Secretary of Phoenix Bowls club.
If there are any members of the public out there that wish they had joined the club this season 2021 it’s not too late, give me a call on 01773 438077 for joining the 2022 season and to reserve you place for next year.

RIPLEY & DISTRICT HERITAGE TRUST A Story That Will Run and Run
Quite possibly Ripley’s most infamous character, William Andrew Horne was the owner of Butterley Hall in the late eighteenth century. He was hanged at Nottingham Jail in 1759 for the murder of his child, the product of an incestuous relationship with his sister, thirty-five years previously.
Horne, who was 74 at the time of his execution, was said to have hidden in a chest from the constables who came to arrest him. This is depicted in the drawing below.
The story, and the part played by his brother and main accuser Charles, were well reported at the time. A slightly dramatized transcript of the trial proceedings was published by Nottingham printer Samuel Cresswell shortly after the execution, and then reprinted in several newspaper editions by London printer William Bristow, and also in Edmund Burke’s Annual Register for 1759. Many newspapers including the Chester Courant, Manchester Mercury and Oxford Journal reprinted the story in January 1760.
This was not to be the end of the matter though. Ever since the story has cropped up in print every few years. In 1849, it was included in a compilation of tales called “Scenes where the Tempter has Triumphed” under the by-line “The Penalty of Sin Delayed, but Certain.” After that, the Nottingham Date-Book, a sort of commentary on past events, reprinted it in 1852 and eleven years later a whole bunch of local newspapers picked it up.
In the twentieth century it appeared in print in the 1930s (The Blyth News and the Nottingham Journal among others) and the 1950s (The Nottingham Evening Post and the Birmingham Daily Gazette, at the time of the abolition of hanging). In 1980 the Liverpool Echo ran a story under the headline “The Ghost of a Killer Stalks Police HQ” claiming that workers at Butterley Hall were encountering Horne’s spirit. The story reported that the ghost had started appearing when a room, which was bricked up at the time of the murder, was opened. Presumably, though, the arrival of Derbyshire Constabulary in the Hall might also have had something to do with it.
In 2010, the full transcript of the trial was published again, and it is now available online, free, as part of the Wellcome Collection (a free historical resource which can be found online ). Not bad for news 260 years old!
