Platforma culturală ARTmania susține artele frumoase, punând accent pe stilurile și curentele derivate din sau direct legate de muzica rock. Alături de aliații săi de încredere și de gazdele evenimentului, ARTmania a devenit un brand consacrat la nivel internațional datorită specificității programului concertelor și localizării acestuia într-una dintre cele mai frumoase cetăți medievale din Europa de Est: Sibiu.

The ARTmania cultural platform supports the fine arts, with focus on the music directly linked to or derived from the rock culture. Together with its faithful allies and the hosts of the event, ARTmania has become a well-known international brand, thanks to the special concept of the festival and its location in one of the most beautiful medieval citadels in Eastern Europe, Sibiu.

În 2012, Festivalul ARTmania de la Sibiu va avea loc în perioada 6 – 12 august și va oferi iubitorilor de artă un program cultural variat ce va include concerte, expoziții, workshop-uri și alte evenimente special dedicate artelor frumoase. Concertele din Piața Mare vor avea loc în zilele de vineri și sâmbătă, 10 și 11 august.

In 2012, the ARTmania Festival will take place between 6th and 12th of August and will offer art amateurs a varied cultural program that includes concerts, exhibitions, workshops and other events dedicated to the fine arts. The concerts will take place in the Large Square on Friday and Saturday, 10th and 11th of August.

Festivalul ARTmania este sprijinit de Primăria Municipiului Sibiu încă de la prima ediție a evenimentului, din iulie 2006. Un alt aliat important în lupta pentru culturalizarea muzicală este binecunoscuta marcă Tuborg, integrată prin platforma Tuborg Sound în programul artistic al festivalului. De trei ani de zile Festivalul ARTmania este susținut de Tuborg Sound, promovând atât platforma în sine, cât şi formațiile românești consacrate sau în ascensiune. Începând de anul trecut festivalului ARTmania s-au alăturat și pasionații pe două roți sub emblema HarleyDavidson®, o marcă ce nu putea lipsi de la întâlnirea anuală a spiritelor libere.

The ARTmania Festival has been endorsed by the City Hall of Sibiu from the first edition in July 2006. An important ally in the process of widening the musical horizons is Tuborg, the well-known brand, integrated in the artistic program of the Festival through its TuborgSound platform. For the past three years TuborgSound has been supporting the festival, by promoting not only the platform itself, but also new comers or well-known Romanian bands. 2011 has brought ARTmania Festival the support of bikers under the Harley Davidson® logo, a prestigious brand which could not miss this annual meeting of free spirits.

During its more than six years of existance, the annual festival in Sibiu has become known for promoting the metal musical scene and artists covering a wide range from gothic metal to heavy metal, and even extending to punk and alternative rock.

Considerat drept unul dintre cele mai frumoase oraşe ale Transilvaniei, Sibiul este un important centru regional în domeniile administraţiei, industriei şi serviciilor. În ultimii ani oraşul, care are în prezent în jur de 155.000 locuitori, a înregistrat cea mai importantă creştere economică din întreaga regiune.

Considered to be one of the most beautiful towns in Transylvania, Sibiu is an important regional industrial, administrative and touristic center. During the last years, the town, with a current population of approximately 155,000 inhabitants, has registered the most important economic growth of the Transylvanian region.

Deşi zona Sibiului a fost locuită sporadic încă din epoca romană, oraşul a fost întemeiat în secolul XII de colonişti de origine germanică veniţi din regiunile vestice ale Rinului şi s-a dezvoltat apoi ca un important centru medieval. Evoluţia sa pe parcursul secolelor XVII – XIX a transformat Sibiul în cel mai important centru economic, social şi cultural al regiunii.

Though the area neighboring Sibiu has been inhabited since Roman times, the town was officially founded in the 12th century by Germanic colonists coming from the Western regions of Rhine and rapidly became an important medieval center. Its fast growth, between the 17th and the 19th century, turned Sibiu into an important economic, cultural and social center of Transylvania.

Caracterul cosmopolit al Sibiului este dat astăzi de convieţuirea locuitorilor de generaţii diferite, stiluri de viaţă diverse şi etnii diferite (români, germani, maghiari etc.). Cele şapte universităţi au transformat Sibiul într-un centru universitar în ascensiune, iar numărul mare de instituţii culturale au contribuit la faima sa de oraş al artelor.

The cosmopolitan atmosphere of Sibiu is given today by the cohabitation of people with different life styles, coming from different generations and having various ethnicities (Romanians, Germans, Hungarians etc.). Also, the seven universities opened here turned Sibiu into a flourishing educational center. Moreover, the great number of cultural institutions has consolidated the “town of arts” fame.

Muzeele, teatrul şi concertele Filarmonicii au un loc stabil în calendarul de manifestări al oraşului, care este întregit constant de festivaluri internaţionale recunoscute, ce fac Sibiul un important centru cultural al regiunii.

The museums, the theater and the concerts given by the Philharmonic of Sibiu have a well-defined place in the events calendar of the town, that is permanently enriched by well-known international cultural festivals. All these make Sibiu an important cultural center of Transylvania.

Serile de proiecții vor debuta luni cu un preview de scurtmetraje al primei ediții a festivalului „Lună Plină”, unicul eveniment din România axat în exclusivitate pe cinema-ul horror și fantastic. Documentaristul olandez Jan Holman îl întâlnește pe celebrul star folk-rock Nohavica într-un centru de dezalcolizare. Într-un moment de penitență și încercare de a scăpa de viciul alcoolismului, Jarek pleacă întrun turneu cu ansamblul muzical mortuar Cechomor, alături de colegul său de trupă și vechiul prieten Karel Plihal. Rezultă un documentar comico-dramatic, împletit cu momente de ficțiune, în care își fac aparitia și alte personaje celebre, cum ar fi Jaz Coleman din trupa britanică de punk, Killing Joke. Jan Holman, a Dutch documentary maker, runs into Jarek Nohavica, a Czech folk-rock star, in a rehab clinic. In a moment of spiritual penance attempting to cure his drinking problem, Nohavica goes on tour with a funeral band called Cechomor, along with his longtime friend and guitarist Karel Plihal. The result is a comedy-drama documentary mixed with fiction sequences, in which other famous characters, like Jaz Coleman of the British punk band Killing Joke, appear. Chris discută cu staruri rock ale scenei poloneze, foto-jurnaliști și istorici, despre mesajul din spatele muzicii din contextul politic și social de acum 50 de ani. S-a dovedit că `Zidul de Fier` n-a fost chiar atât de impenetrabil pe cât îl doreau autoritățile, fapt demonstrat de prezența unei trupe rock legendare precum The Rolling Stones, în 1967, pe scena din Varsovia și Jarocin. Beats of Freedom tells the story of rock music in the communist era in Poland, presented by the English journalist of Polish origin, Chris Salewicz. Chris talks with rock stars of the Polish scene, foto-journalists and historians about the message behind the music from the political and social point of view of 50 years ago. It has been proven that the Iron Curtain was not as unbreakable as the authorities would have wanted it to be, fact demonstrated by the presence of a legendary rock band like The Rolling Stones, in 1967, on the stages of Warsaw and Jarocin. 5

Printre titlurile colecției se numără: Matei, Matei, câștigătorul Premiului pentru Cel mai Bun Film Românesc la Anim'est 2010; Grand Cafe, filmul pentru care Bogdan Mihăilescu a fost nominalizat la Premiul Gopo Tânără Speranță în 2011 sau The Scream, câștigătorul Competiției Naționale și a secțiunii Balkanimation la Anim'est 2011. Eyes On The Skies prezintă istoria telescopului, importanța lui știintifică, tehnologia, oamenii din spatele acestei invenții revoluționare, realizările și eșecurile lor. Filmul este prezentat de Dr. J (Joe Liske), un cunoscut astronom de la European Southern Observatory și gazda videopodcastului Hubblecast. Filmul a fost premiat în 2009 cu premiul special al juriului în cadrul Medea Awards și a primit titlul “International Association for Media in Science’s Award” la festivalul TechFilm 2010. Eyes on The Skies Friday•14:00, Saturday•00:30 Eyes on the skies presents the telescopes history, its scientific importance, the technology and the people behind this revolutionary invention, their achievements and their failures. The movie is presented by Dr. J (Joe Liske), a well-known astronomer from the European Southern Observatory and host of the Hubblecast video-chat. Filmul aniversar produs de ESA, “Hubble – 15 ani de descoperiri” reprezentă o călătorie prin istoria telescopului spațial Hubble, de la problemele inițiale până la ultimele succese științifice. Acest film, produs de Lars Lindberg Christensen, conține un număr foarte mare de imagini nepublicate până în 2009, de o calitate exceptională. During ARTmania Festival winning movies of the 2011 edition will be shown: Best of Anim’est 2011. The audience will enjoy films like: Body Memory, winner of the Anim’est Trophy 2011 and the Anim’est proposal for Cartoon d’Or 2012, The External World, awarded with the best short movie prize or Flaming Pride the short movie awarded with the Public’s Prize. Founded in 2006, the Anim’est International Festival has become, over the years, an important event in Bucharest and one of the most important events of its kind in Central Europe. 6

The anniversary movie produced by ESA, "Hubble 15 years of discoveries" represents a trip though the history of the Hubble Space Telescope, from the initial problems to the latest scientific successes. This movie, produced by Lars Lindberg Christensen, contains a large number of images unpublished until 2009, of exceptional quality. With over 500,000 copies distributed, DVD is probably one of the best known scientific documentaries of all times.

Curing Nostalgia, Remedies for a Historical Emotion este un demers curatorial care analizează impactului nostalgiei asupra conștientului colectiv contemporan şi asupra modului în care acest proces afectează produsul artistic contemporan. Inspirată de dezbateri actuale provocate de problematica nostalgiei în zona artistică, expoziţia reuneşte lucrări de fotografie, pictură, ceramică şi colaj care problematizează relaţia dintre nostalgie şi progres, conexiunile narative dintre istoria personală şi cea colectivă, provocând limitările si constrângerile mentale impuse de conceptul de timp.

Curing Nostalgia, Remedies for a Historical Emotion is a curatorial start in analyzing the impact of nostalgia over the collective contemporary mind and the way this process affects the contemporary artistic product. Inspired by recent debates provoked by the problem of nostalgia in the artistic area, the exhibition presents works of photography, ceramics and collage that centers the relationship between nostalgia and progress, the narrative connections between the personal and the collective history, provoking the limits and mental constraints imposed by the concept of time.

Funcţionează ca expoziţie de bază a Muzeului de Etnografie Universală „Franz Binder” încă din 1993. În cele şase săli la etajul Casei Hermes, expoziţia se desfăşoară ca un şir de decupaje ale gestului uman creator, ale gândului prelungit în elemente de cultură materială. Prin acelaşi gest, omul cunoaşte, domină sau acţionează posesiv, înfrumuseţează sau, finalmente, adoptă reguli ce guvernează atitudinea în faţa morţii. Functions as the base exhibition of the Museum of Universal Etnography "Franz Binder" since 1993. In the six rooms of the Hermes House the exhibits developes and a series of slides of the human creative gesture, of the prolongued thought in elemetns of material culture. Through the same gesture the human knows, dominates and acts posesively, beautifies or, finally, adopts rules that dominates the attitude in facing death.

Inside the Baroque Garden there will take place a fado concert given by Maria Raducanu, a resonating name in the world of jazz, both nationally and internationally.

De-a lungul evoluției sale muzicale, Maria nu s-a oprit la jazz, ci a fost atrasă de muzica popoarelor din întreaga lume. Ea explorează și abordează întro manieră personalizată o gamă vastă de stiluri, de la muzica tradițională românească, până la cea specifică nomazilor Rusiei, Franței, Spaniei și nu în ultimul rând fado-ul portughez.

During her musical evolution, Maria didn't stop at jazz, but was attracted by traditional music from all over the world. She explores and adapts in her individual way a wide array of styles, from Romanian traditional music to the Russian and that of the French and Spanish nomads, and last but not least, the Portuguese fado.

Concertul se va împleti cu momente de lectură a textelor unor scriitori celebri precum Fernando Pessoa și José Saramago, în interpretarea actorului Mihai Alexandru, colaborator al Teatrului Național ''Radu Stanca'' Sibiu. Evenimentul este realizat în spiritul promovării culturii portugheze cu ajutorul Institutului Camões.

The concert will borrow at times passages from famous writers like Fernando Pessoa or Jose Saramago, voiced by the actor Mihai Alexandru, collaborator of the "Radu Stanca" National Theatre of Sibiu. Trail of Tears va concerta în premieră pentru publicul ARTmania, deși declarau încă din 2007 într-un interviu pentru metalhead.ro că abia așteaptă să-și întâlnească fanii din România. Cu șase albume lansate și unul nou gata de a vedea lumina zile, sunt mai mult decât pregătiți să urce pe scena din Piața Mare a orașului Sibiu. The Norwegian band Trail of Tears has been playing since ’94, but has never been to Romania, is spite of its strong fan base. They stated in an interview for metalhead.ro in 2007 that they would really like to play in Romania. With six albums so far and a new one ready to be launched, the artists of Trail of Tears are ready for the meeting in Sibiu’s Large Square in 2012.

The headliner of the seventh edition of the ARTmania Festival on August the 10th 2012 Is the Die Toten Hosen, one of Germany's most representative bands to premiere on Romanian ground.

Originară din Düsseldorf, trupa a rămas întotdeauna aproape de comunitatea locală, a susținut financiar echipa locală de fotbal Fortuna Düsseldorf și a luat parte la numeroase campanii umanitare ale unor ONG-uri ca Greenpeace, BUND (care militează împotriva războiului nuclear), PETA , Pro Asyl, etc. În primăvara lui 2012, Die Toten Hosen au împlinit 30 de ani de activitate și au lansat un nou album, `Ballast Der Republik `, începând vara ca headlineri ai unor festivaluri cu tradiție precum Rock Am Ring Festival, Rock Im Park și ARTmania Festival.

Originary from Düsseldorf, the band was always close to the city's community, financially supported the Fortuna Düsseldorf football team and took part in many humanitarian campaigns of NGOs like Greenpeace, BUND (which militates against the nuclear war), PETA , Pro Asyl, etc. In the spring of 2012 Die Toten Hosen celebrated 30 years of existence and released a new album, `Ballast Der Republik`, and started their summer as headliners of festivals with great tradition like Rock Am Ring Festival, Rock Im Park and ARTmania Festival.

Arc Gotic

Arc Gotic was founded in Timișoara in 1992, at the initiative of Florin Turta, as a result of the common interest of the band members towards the music of the 80s, especially post-punk, a completely new approach for the Romanian musical scene. Their debut album, “Catechism”, reminds the Romanian public of the gloomy perspective of George Bacovia's poetry, was released in 1994 and followed by 3 other discs. At the ARTmania Festival, the public will have the chance to listen to songs also from the soon to be released album, whose sound is said to be different, less processed, with “garage” influences but one that preserves their characteristic mood.

In 2005, the band released “Orasul 511”, album that included the track “Wamintirile” that successfully invaded the Romanian TV and radio stations. Poets of The Fall is one a kind appearance due to their contributions in cultural areas such as music, movie scores and video game soundtracks (Alan Wake, Max Payne 2 or Death Rally) having earned had an impressive number of prizes. The four albums released from 2005 till 2010 have had an incredible success, out of which the last two disc recordings sold over 10,000 units each in just a few days after the official release. The finns bring a touch of romanticism sustained by instrumentals that have gained their popularity in alternative and pop-rock charts. On the 11 of August 2012, the ARTmania public will be listening to a new material of theirs filled with energy and meaning.

The concert of the Dutch band Delain has been a wish expressed by the active members of the ARTmania community. The band’s story began in 2002 when Martijn Westerjolt, ex keyboard player in Within Temptation, along with the charismatic Charlotte Wessels. Delain are coming to Romania for the first time and to Sibiu nonetheless with a new record release behind the production of which we find Jacob Hellner, well-known for his collaborations with Rammstein and Apocalyptica. "We Are The Others", the third and most recent material of the Dutch band has a darker perspective than the previous one and an epic sound empowered by Charlotte's fascinating voice. Bringing a nuance of lyrical melodicity on the scene of symphonic-metal- rock.

Nedespărțiți pe scenă de Aerosmith și Scorpions, membrii formației Edguy sunt considerați moștenitori legitimi ai tronului heavy metal. Având peste două milioane de albume vândute, 9 albume de studio și concerte sold-out în mai mult de 37 de ţări, Edguy vine în Transilvania cu un show dedicat celui mai recent material discografic, “Age of The Joker”.

The German band Edguy, another premiere for Romania, will hit the stage at the ARTmania Festival on 11th of August 2012. Inseparable on stage from Aerosmith and Scorpions, Edguy is considered to be the rightful heir of the heavy metal throne. With over two million albums sold, nine studio albums and sold-out concerts in over 37 countries, Edguy brings to Transylvania a show dedicated to their latest released album “Age of the Joker”.

The well-known British band My Dying Bride will perform this year for the third time in Sibiu, establishing a record after playing at ARTmania Festival, back in 2007 and 2009.

My Dying Bride este cea mai importantă trupă din zona doom-metal încă de la albumul de debut din 1992. Sunetul heavy-atmosferic al trupei a marcat de-a lungul anilor o lume întreagă și rămâne în continuare un model al genului.

My Dying Bride has been the leading light of doom metal since their debut album (1992). The band’s heavy atmospherics have carved a huge worldwide following over the years and they remain at the pinnacle of the genre.

După 11 albume de studio, My Dying Bride a sărbătorit 20 de ani de la înființare prin lansarea albumul "Evinta", o reinventare simfonică a temelor clasice ale trupei, album urmat de un nou capitol, sub forma EP-ului ‘The Barghest O’ Whitby’.

Blind Spirits is a heavy metal band from Bucharest formed in 2003 by guitarist Razvan Rizea. Blind Spirits has opened for Hammerfall and Iron Maidnem - Hungary (2008), played at the White River Fest (2008), MC Trust Fest (2008) and Free Fest, with numerous other concerts in Bucharest and nationwide clubs. In April 2012, they released the double album “Trapped into Reality”, followed by a short Romanian tour which will be continued in the fall, that will also be including a few gigs in Bulgaria, Czsech Republic and Germany.

Blind Spirits este o trupă bucureșteană de heavy metal înființată în anul 2003 la inițiativa chitaristului Răzvan Rizea. Participanţii la evenimentele ARTmania sunt obligaţi să prezinte un bilet sau o invitaţie valabilă. Accesul va fi permis pe baza biletului valid, unei singure persoane, o singură dată. ARTmania poate garanta faptul că un bilet este legal şi nefalsificat numai dacă acesta este cumpărat direct de la ARTmania sau de la unul din punctele de vânzare sau prin reprezentanţii oficiali. Verificați integritatea și validitatea biletului achiziționat. Orice reclamație ulterioară nu va fi luată în considerare și nu se acceptă acordarea de despăgubiri. Participanţilor li se vor prinde brăţările de acces exclusiv de către personalul ARTmania în schimbul biletelor prezentate. Brăţările nu pot fi deteriorate şi nu sunt transmisibile. Persoanele care au achiziționat abonamente la ARTmania Festival 2012 sunt rugate săși păstreze brățara de acces intactă pe toată perioada festivalului. Organizatorii Festivalului ARTmania nu răspund de pierderea, înstrăinarea, deteriorarea sau ruperea brăţărilor primite la accesul în locaţie. Ruperea, distrugerea sau deteriorarea brăţării atrag după sine interzicerea accesului în perimetrul festivalului. Este interzis accesul persoanelor sub 14 ani fără însoţitor. Nu recomandăm prezenţa copiilor sub 5 ani sau a cărucioarelor pentru copii. Copiii care nu au împlinit 12 ani până în prima zi a festivalului pot participa gratuit numai însoţiţi de un tutore cu un bilet valid. Este interzis accesul cu aparate de filmat; aparate foto profesionale sau semi-profesionale (cu obiectiv detaşabil), inclusiv trepiede, aparate de înregistrare audio-video, cu excepţia camerelor de fotografiat compacte; obiecte contondente, arme sau obiecte/ materiale ce pot fi considerate periculoase; recipiente de sticlă, metal, plastic, sticle, artificii, bannere susţinute de beţe, scaune, arme, lanţuri, obiecte periculoase, băuturi şi a următoarelor tipuri de obiecte: spray-uri, parfumuri, umbrele, bidoane de plastic, conserve sau mâncare; animale, cu excepţia animalelor însoţitor pentru persoanele cu dizabilităţi; substanţe interzise prin lege. Accesul cu medicamente este permis doar în baza reţetei medicale aferente. Forţele de ordine au dreptul să nu permită accesul persoanelor sub 14 ani neînsoţite, persoanelor agresive, aflate sub influenţa drogurilor sau alcoolului. Încălcarea acestor prevederi, precum şi orice formă de comportament violent, pot atrage restricţionarea accesului sau evacuarea din locaţiile evenimentului. Fiecare participant este răspunzător pentru pagubele provocate.

Participants at ARTmania events are obliged to have a valid ticket or invitation. Access will be allowed to a single person, one time, only after presenting a valid ticket. ARTmania can guarantee ticket validity and authenticity only if bought directly from ARTmania or authorized vending points. The public will receive bracelets according to the type of ticket bought only from the ARTmania staff. The bracelets must not be alienated, broken and are not transmissible. The participants that have bought subscriptions for ARTmania Festival 2012 are asked to make sure that their bracelets remain intact for the whole duration of the festival. ARTmania Festival organizers are not responsible for the loss, alienation, deterioration or breaking of the bracelets received on location at the access points. Breaking, destroying or deteriorating the bracelets will immediately result in the denied access on festival perimeters. Children under 14 are not allowed unless accompanied. Presence of children under 5 or of children strollers is not reccomended. Children who have not turned 12 before the first day of the festival are granted free access if accompanied by a ticket paying legal guardian. Acces with: filming cameras, professional photo or semi-professional photo cameras (with detachable lens), audio- video recording devices; blunt objects, weapons or objects/materials that can be considered dangerous; glass, metal and plastic recipients, bottles, tins, fireworks, banners on wooden sticks, chairs, weapons, chains, sharp objects, drinks and the following types of items: plastic cans, sprays, perfumes, umbrellas or food; animals, except for guide animals for disabled people; law forbidden substances will be denied. Access with medication is allowed only if a valid medical prescriptions is presented. Security has the right to ban the access of children under 14 who are not accompanied by an adult, of aggressive individuals or those under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Violating these rules, as well as any form of violent behavior will lead to access restriction or even evacuation from festival premises. Every participant is responsible for the damages caused.
