Aqua Art Miami is pleased to present the 2014 Edition, celebrating the fair’s 10th Anniversary and its second since joining the Art Miami family of fairs. Since 2005, Aqua has been established as one of the top fairs during Miami Art Week, recognized for presenting vibrant and noteworthy international art programs with a particular emphasis in supporting young and established galleries with strong emerging and early-to-mid-career artists. This exciting year continues Aqua’s evolution as we integrate this mission with the expanded amenities and infrastructure that are the signatures of the Art Miami fairs. The result is a dynamic mix of established galleries and young exhibitors fresh to the Miami scene, selected by our new Advisory Committee and shown amongst an engaging and immersive environment lasting throughout the week. In addition to Aqua, we hope to also welcome you to Art Miami and CONTEXT, courtesy of the continuous shuttle service between Aqua, Art Basel Miami Beach at the Convention Center, and Art Miami and CONTEXT in Wynwood’s Arts District. A very special thanks to our sponsors and partners, the returning galleries who have contributed to Aqua’s success over the past ten years, and the new exhibitors who have joined us from throughout North and South America, Europe and Asia. Most importantly, we would like to thank you - our patrons. Whether you are a loyal collector or new visitor, we hope you will enjoy the galleries, special programs, installations and events at Aqua Art Miami 2014, and look forward to seeing you frequently throughout the week!

SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS MK GUTH | ADVICE STATION | ROOM 202 Presented by Elizabeth Leach Gallery M.K. Guth is a visual artist working in video, photography, sculpture, performance and inter-active based exchange projects. Small shifts in what is familiar amplify human presence and speak to the intricacies of social relations in MK Guth’s work. Her videos depart form everyday scenarios into the site of fiction as an entry point to more complicated issues of identity and self and her sculptural installations often act as visual containers for audience interaction. Advice Station is part psychiatry office and part information booth where visitors can sit and talk about their experiences and offer their tips, pointers and opinions about the art fairs in Miami. In exchange visitors will be asked to offer advice that will be added to the collective advice receptacle from which future visitors can gain wisdom. The advice collected from visitors in the room will be included in a book that can be ordered and shipped after the fair. ARTSLANT | ROOM 124 The online network and magazine ArtSlant presents the results of its yearlong contest leading up to a special exhibition at Aqua Art Miami. The open call to artists worldwide was juried by a panel of international art luminaries who selected several finalists for this annual opportunity to gain invaluable exposure during Art Week.

DESIGN AT AQUA | INDUSTRY GALLERY | ROOM 214 Celebrating the blurring lines between all artistic mediums, Industry Gallery from Los Angeles/DC presents an immersive installation re-envisioning the hotel penthouse as a modern design showcase, exploring surrealism and the avant-garde in contemporary design. Industry will also be sponsoring a small pop-up installation in the Aqua Art Miami courtyard featuring the 3D jewelry of designer Jenny Wu of LACE. The intricately detailed pieces extend from her avant-garde architectural work, merging her modern design sensibilities with the latest in 3-D printing technology and material. Industry will also host a party in the courtyard for design aficionados, arts professionals and the fashion press on Saturday, December 6 from 11-1 PM. aqua | 5

AQUA ART MIAMI PERFORMANCE PROGRAM Curated by Mat Gleason of Coagula Curatorial, sponsor of this year’s video lounge. UNRAVELED IN AQUA Performance Intervention by AMY KAPPS

December 3

“Unraveled (in Aqua)” is literally the unraveling of over 1700 ft of flagging tape that begins as a “dress” and results in a trail marking Kapps’ journey through the day. Tied to a fixed starting point, her route will intersect paths dictated by the architecture, people and objects within the space. In her own physical twirling, Kapps will circulate through the Aqua Hotel grounds welcoming conversation and detours. Order, manifested in the form of the dress, is unraveled to reveal the human body unadorned. (Well, almost.) ASSEMBLING HEAVEN’S COLLECTION December 3 Performance Intervention by MICHAEL MCCALL In “Assembling Heaven’s Collection” Michael McCall will be conjuring up the spirit of Walter Hopps, famed curator and past director of the Menil Museum of Houston, Texas, and an old friend of McCall. Walter Hopps founded the Ferus Gallery along with Ed Kienholz during the late ‘50s in Los Angeles, then later moved on to become curator and director of the Pasadena Museum. The Ferus has been credited with putting Los Angeles on the contemporary art map. While wearing a stylish suit once owned and worn by Hopps, McCall will attempt to make trades during the evening with anyone who wants to be in Heaven’s Art Collection. McCall will be communicating with the late, esteemed curator during the performance, as Hopps has been asked by “The Almighty” in heaven to find better artworks for the Pearly Gates Collection. McCall will use paper money and coinage from various countries where Hopps visited during his travels for the Menil Museum, as well as his travels for the Guggenheim Museum. Hopps organized and curated both the Rauschenberg (’97) and the Rosenquist (’03) retrospectives for the Guggenheim Museum. Hopps rarely if ever took the time to exchange foreign money back to dollars upon returning from his travels and representatives of his estate recently gave the money to McCall. The money had been kept in storage since the esteemed art figure’s passing in 2005. McCall will use Hopps’ money to trade for artworks, and the pieces procured during the performance will consequently be shipped to Heaven by a courier to be named at a later date.

AQUA PERFORMANCES ARTISTS ANONYMOUS Performance by KAREN FINLEY

December 4 – 6 | 2 PM

Do you have a problem with art? Do you need help with that problem? If so, Karen Finley and the Aqua Art Miami Fair are here for you. Held on three days of the fair at 2pm, Artists Anonymous are open meetings for visitors who feel that their lives have been affected by art making, the art world, and/or the troubles of maintaining a creative life and career. The meetings offer the group a space to consider and reflect on challenges that we encounter as artists, arts professionals and art-lovers. Reimagining the form of a 12-step program, each meeting will begin with a brief topic or prompt, or a creative exercise for consideration by Karen Finley. Guest artist speakers will join each meeting and offer testimonials of transformation. Artists will be able to share, address the prompt, offer gratitude, or vocalize an issue that they are going through. Other exercises will be explored during these sessions. The meetings are free with coffee available but seating is extremely limited. Email Coagula Curatorial (88gallery@gmail. com) to reserve your seats. Choose Thursday December 4, Friday December 5 or Saturday December 6 at 2 PM in the Coagula Curatorial room at Aqua Miami. Karen’s performance is approximately 90 minutes in duration and participatory in sections. PSYCHIC PORTRAITS One on One Performance by KAREN FINLEY

December 4 – 6 | 4:30-6 PM

Anyone can have a psychic read their aura, but what about an artist painting a picture of what your psychic energy reveals? Karen Finley will be painting psychic portraits in the Aqua Art Miami courtyard at 4:30-6 PM on Thursday, Friday and Saturday afternoons. These half-hour one-on-one performance sessions are strictly between artist and subject. The result is a portrait of what Karen sees within you, a tongue in cheek toying with new age sentimentality but a transformative interaction with a renowned performance artist nonetheless. The portrait is yours to keep. To purchase your session, visit the Coagula Video Lounge – which will be featuring historic and contemporary video and digital art by Karen Finley or email Coagula Curatorial (88gallery@gmail. com) ahead of the fair.

Art Miami is the leading international contemporary and modern art fair that takes place each December during Art Week at the Midtown Miami complex in the renowned Wynwood Arts District. It is one of the most important annual contemporary art events in the United States, attracting more than 72,500 motivated collectors, curators, museum professionals and art enthusiasts from around the globe during Art Week 2013. Entering its 25th edition, Art Miami remains committed to showcasing the most important artworks of the 20th and 21st centuries in collaboration with a selection of the world’s most respected galleries. SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS PERCEIVED VALUES provides artists space to stretch out with solo presentations in the passageways linking Art Miami’s three main pavilions that enable bold installations LaRete Art Projects’ curators have selected from proposals by galleries participating in the fair. Art Miami provides an excellent opportunity to explore and evaluate the concept of value over the course of the last decades. What is indeed deemed “valuable” today? “Value” is not primarily a question of economy, precious materials, expensive processes and/or prices, but a question of ethics. We expect to see statements on what is worth living and working for, intimate as well as socially engaged positions regarding the question: What counts in life? HOT SPOTS positions provocative installations and remarkable projects by individual artists whose galleries are participating in Art Miami and CONTEXT. Curated by LaRete Art Projects: Julia Draganović, Elena Forin and Claudia Löffelholz Art Miami, and its sister art fair CONTEXT will both be marked by exceptional cutting-edge art or with masterpieces among modern classics selected by LaRete Art Project’s curators for the areas of highest exposure - inside and outside the entrances of the fairs, the Maserati VIP Lounge at Art Miami and the VIP Lounge of CONTEXT amongst other spaces.

CONTEXT is the sister fair to Art Miami dedicated to the development and reinforcement of emerging and mid-career artists. Launched in 2012, CONTEXT’s open atmosphere creates a meaningful dialogue between artists, galleries and collectors while providing the ultimate platform for the presentation of midcareer, emergent and cutting-edge talent by emerging and established galleries. Eighty international galleries, vetted by the CONTEXT Selection Committee, exhibit highlights from their gallery programs, solo artist exhibitions and curated projects. The combined efforts of CONTEXT and Art Miami provide a unique and alternative opportunity for leading primary dealers and their artists to be marketed and promoted internationally during the most important week for contemporary art in America. SPECIAL EXHIBITIONS ART FROM BERLIN offers insight into Berlin’s influential art scene with six contemporary galleries selected by a panel of Berlin based curators and art critics. ART FROM BERLIN is presented at CONTEXT by the Galleries Association of Berlin, landesverband berliner galerien (lvbg), with official support from the municipality of Berlin and the European Union (EU). In the BERLIN LOUNGE, lvbg will install a curated exhibition and offer information on the city’s contemporary art galleries and institutions. THE DIRECTOR’S PROJECT: CONTEXT-ing / Listening as CONTEXT creates immersive and intimate situations for listening to the work of sound artists exploring the ontological aspects of sound while also working with various materials, approaches, and techniques. CONTEXT-ing / Listening as CONTEXT will be premiered on the VIP opening night in the 2600sq.ft Sound Positions Pavilion – a dedicated space annexed to the main CONTEXT pavilion featuring 12 individual sound stations, making it the most important and largest sound project in an art fair - and continues during fair hours from December 3rd - 7th. “A PIECE OF ME” features visual arts students from the high school honors class of Miami’s renowned New World School of the Arts collaborating to produce site-specific installations in response to a significant artwork by an acclaimed alumnus from their school, Hernan Bas. The source artwork will be a signature Bas video in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art, “All By Myself” (2004, single-channel video, courtesy of the artist and Frederic Snitzer Gallery).
