The group show presents the works of art from - Hubertus von der Goltz, Stefan Pietryga and Frank Michael Zeidler. With theirs studios they are all located in Berlin/ Potsdam. The exhibition itself is a contribution, to appear, that German Contemporary Art is much more multifaceted . Hubertus von der Goltz is well known for his typical icon of balancing figures, even as small indoor and huge ground-covering outdoor sculptures all over the world. Stefan Pietryga is a very sensitive painter and sculptor, which often transfers different cultural icons (like I-GING) in a contemporary artist language. To become familiar with the history of varied civilizations is seen by Stefan Pietryga as a chance, to get new opportunities to create congenial and coeval aesthetic statements in his kind of artwork. Very unique is even the work of art from Frank Michael Zeidler. He is working sensitively with his own awareness, of his feeling-sensations and the formal strength of the outer world. being aware of these possibilities, he is asking self confident artificial questions of an always astonishing world that surrounds us, sometimes hidden in a glimpse of the very moment. Hubertus von der Goltz is one of the few figurative sculptors of our time who understand how to alloy substantive contemporaneity and formal timelessness in a continuous form language in their work. His figurative minimalism nourishes itself on the expressive quality of an elemental form – the human figure. Relinquishing any narrative context in his work, to the point of an emblematic and thus meaning-creating strategy, he places the weight of his works on feeling. The experiential value of his works and their high remembrance value result from a matured, singular form language. The impressiveness of his works grows out of the aesthetic dialog between figure, space, and viewer. Hubertus von der Goltz’s sculptures are signs whose pictogram-like condensation conveys new knowledge of surface, form, and space to the viewer. His works command respect and attention because they surprise, fascinate, and confuse our perception, thus provoking new ways of seeing. The simplicity of their public appearance, which seems to have overcome all static and tectonic constraints like child’s play, is also the basis of his works’ metaphorical effect as pithy signs. The human figure is always also an allegorical image pointing the viewer back to himself, and an image with which one consciously or unconsciously identifies.It stimulates people’s imaginative powers. The appeal of his formulations, which is abstract because it is kept general, leaves room for an individual, subjective interpretation. A dualism between the artistic idea and active reception and a weighing of the clearly articulated and the unspoken arise. In their appearance, Hubertus von der Goltz’s works are a self-contained, sculptural concept. On the level of the aesthetics of effect, they remain an open system – an offer for perception.

In the centre of the artworks for the Art Beijing Stefan Pietryga shows a space-oriented installation of large-area papers, which are watercolour painted a carved wooden sculptures. The subject of the installation is an exemplary landscape, which correlatives the occident’s adapted Chinese Culture, for example the meaning of I-GING and in present China. The title for the artwork in this group show in Beijing is “8”. The paintings, all watercolour on paper, are arranged in rows of eight papers each row. In this order squares with 8x8 paintings develops that are ordered in contexts of subjects. In some pictures you find figurative elements. Those figures are always painted with a brush and fulfil, almost not countable, the paintings spaces. The figures’ and brush’s movement are directly related. With the techniques of brush and watercolour an abstract structure stands out on the paper; it is easy to associate natural phenomena with that abstract structure. Water, rain or a lake surface; air, sky and clouds; forest, leafs and branches. These impressions are ordered to systems with the formats and the number 8. In this context, Stefan Pietryga is falling back on Chinese tradition. The development of the signs in I-GING shown in a work of 64 paintings, in an own interpretation and refers the reading for eastern cultural heritage in the world of art of the western countries. This aim is also shown in Stefan Pietrygas sculptures. Wood carved figurative fragments built signs in space and develops in their colourful frame. The development is shown in the narrative structure and the position to each other that is produced from it. Eight is the sign of endlessness.

FRANK MICHAEL ZEIDLER 弗兰克.迈克.兹德勒

Since the early seventies Frank Michael Zeidler is searching his creative territory in between modern abstraction and more or less open figuration. He is not playing with subjective present ness, not affective constellations of figures: he is since then working sensitively with his own awareness of his feelingsensations and the formal strength of the outer world. Being aware of these possibilities, he is asking self confident artificial questions of an always astonishing world that surrounds us, sometimes hidden in a glimpse of the very moment. Technically Frank Michael Zeidler is working between painting and drawing. Meanwhile these two classical techniques are merging more and more, the graphicstructures are melting into the brush-made paintings and vice versa. For a long time he was only drawing and painting with black and white, then, changed into a bit of shining yellow; nowadays he enriched with various colours of the warm and light palette: always guided by the idea of handling the phenomenon light. Working on canvas as well as on different handmade papers Frank Michael Zeidler is trying to create a 3 dimension imagination divided into two horizontal areas, similar to those classic paintings, which are dealing with a double perspective horizon in order to perform the difference between something realistic or natural and the idea of a spiritual sense. Although Frank Michael Zeidler is not working on religious themes, he took the formal structure of those renaissance works into his own work, building up a new artificial arrangement of his own individual, modern view of sight.
