John Berkey was recently inducted into the Society of Illustrators Hall of Fame and is placed next to the likes of Parrish, Remington, Rockwell, and Wyeth. He loves to paint, and has inspired artists and illustrators with both his art and his production. For most of his fifty-year working career he spent long days in the studio, researching and churning out painting after painting that helped form visual images of parts of our culture. John Berkey’s place is outer space, just as others have branded culture with western scenes or important birds. We ourselves can now experience speed, the wildness of outer space, and distant communications thanks to John. We now visually understand what propulsion, enormity and wonder actually look like. And as John would point out with elfin grin, every painting has a story. Thank you for coming to observe a great artist of our lifetime. John Berkey loves to paint.
