STRATEGIC PLAN 2017–2020

Message from the Executive Director ArtPower started with a vision to bring rich cultural and creative experiences in music, dance, and film to UC San Diego for collective exploration and inspiration. Over the years, audiences have enjoyed ArtPower’s ability to curate exceptional multidisciplinary performances from around the world. From emerging artists to renowned performers, the performances represent the latest developments in the performing arts while paying homage to classical roots. Equally important, UC San Diego students have benefited from hands on experiences with these same artists. After 14 years of providing successful programs and experiences we undertook a strategic planning process to ensure that we continue to deliver the programs and experiences that are most impactful to our campus and the greater community. A critical component of this was to gather input from our patrons, donors, performers, and the community, as well as to ensure that our mission, vision, values, and goals not only align with the UC San Diego and Student Affairs strategic plans, but that our programs help to build better cultural and multidisciplinary awareness, understanding, and dialogues. ArtPower plays a crucial role in showcasing and supporting bold thinking and actions that simultaneously break barriers while creating new communities. It is through these programs and unique paradigms that Art Power helps to shape the visionaries of tomorrow who will identify and implement the unprecedented solutions that are necessary to ensure UC San Diego’s continued level of excellence and allow us to better address pressing global challenges. ArtPower uses integrative learning experiences linking educational fields (such as STEM, social sciences, and humanities) with the arts to challenge preconceived ideas, add breadth of perspective, refine character, add new dimensions of awareness, and build skills. We do this through Master Classes, Innovator-In-Residence programs, and Internships that introduce students to artistic research, provide participatory opportunities, and foster powerful dialogues between artists, students, scholars, and the community. While UC San Diego has many groups and centers that welcome and support diverse communities on campus, ArtPower is unique in that it curates events which are meant for all groups to come together in a supportive environment to engage with one another through a shared performing arts experience. It is through these collective experiences that attendees have a chance to connect on a different level to the arts and each other; this allows them to engage in constructive and meaningful dialogues. Through ArtPower, students have access to engage with the world’s creative thinkers and artists while gaining the imagination to “break things better”. Thank you for your continued support, on behalf of ArtPower, we look forward to further strengthening our impact and sharing in cutting-edge performing arts experiences with you. Sincerely,

Jordan Peimer Executive Director, ArtPower
