Eastman CHENG Shuk Yee 鄭 淑 宜 Eastman Cheng Shuk Yee is a Hong Kong artist known for her “soft” sculptures that she creates using primarily fabric and a variety of mixed media that includes wood, plastic, sponge, ceramics

and

acrylic

paint.

Inspired by the natural landscape, she weaves an artistic narrative into her sculptures to portray an imaginary and peculiar world. Eastman graduated with a Master of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Adam CHEUNG 張 成 發 Adam Cheung (b.1989) is based in Hong Kong, and graduated from the Hong Kong Art School and

subsequently

from

the

Griffith University in Australia with a Bachelor of Fine Art. Adam is fascinated with the human

figure

and

in

facial

expressions. He makes detailed observations of the human body, capturing in his oil paintings the physical forms, emotions and all its subtle nuances, in order to portray the more intangible inner psyche of the individual. In doing so, he aspires to reveal the very essence of humanity that is ingrained in each and every person.

(b.1986) aspires to be able to portray every known animal in the world in her artistic career. Through her Chinese “gongbi” (fine-brush) paintings, she wants to capture the beauty of the animals and reflect the influences of the artistic representations of animals across different cultures, societies and geographies. She has also researched on the changing relationships between people and animal throughout the Chinese Art History. Through

Leah CLOUGH Leah Clough (b.1985) is a Hong Kong artist known for her pen and ink works of exotic floral drawings that evoke animalistic, seductive and surreal imageries. Leah’s to

Hong Kong artist Beverly Fung Wing Yan (b.1988) likes to portray infants in everyday settings to express a state of mind that is free from societal rules and the stressful modern life and material desires. A graduate of the Academy of Visual Arts at the Hong Kong Baptist University and trained in the traditional Chinese “gongbi” painting technique, Beverly infuses contemporary techniques and content to create a refreshed re-adaptation to the traditional medium. She won the Louis Mak Chinese Visual Arts Award in 2011.

Michelle Kuen Suet FUNG 馮 捲 雪 Michelle Fung (b.1982) draws her

inspiration

from

popular

subcultures such as fairy tales, children’s picture books, the Otaku, as well as from fifteenthcentury European etching and traditional Chinese landscape painting. In March 2010, Michelle was awarded an artist residency at Canada’s prestigious Banff Centre.

In

July

2013,

she

participated in a residency in Listhús í Fjallabyggðis, Iceland. Michelle has exhibited her works in Hong Kong and internationally including

the

United

States,

United Kingdom, Canada, Korea and China. Michelle graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Art from the University of British Columbia, Canada in 2005 and is currently pursuing her Master of Visual Arts degree at Hong Kong Baptist University. After having lived in Vancouver for

the

past

two

decades,

Michelle returned to her place of birth Hong Kong in 2011.

GAO Ge 高 歌

Gao Ge’s (b.1984) works are reflections of China’s post-80’s generation. She depicts mesmerizing dreamlike imageries that reveals the artist’s inner psyche and personal emotions. Through her paintings, Gao ge constructs fantasy worlds to replace reality, creating a virtual realm in which to find solace and self identity. Gao Ge graduated from Tianjin Engineering Technical Institute, Department of Art in 2005. Her works have been exhibited in China and internationally, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and South Korea. Gao Ge currently lives and works in Beijing.

Corn HO Shuk Mei 何 淑 美

A Glance 一瞥

Ho Shuk Mei (b.1988) likes to explore the relationship between past memories with current reality, juxtaposing elements and places from the past with the present to evoke a strange but familiar atmosphere in which time and context have been transposed. Shuk Mei’s painting technique involves building up layers of thinly applied oil paints unto the canvas to create a translucent, fading effect, which works together with a pastoral color palette to further enhance the illusion of the passing of time. Based, in Hong Kong, Shuk Mei graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2010, with a major in Fine Arts and minor 14

in French Studies. Aside from oil painting, she also works in diverse range of media including film, installation and photography.

Tang-Wei HSU 許 唐 瑋 Taiwanese artist Tang Wei Hsu (b.1980) draws his inspiration from anime and architecture and is particularly fascinated by astronomy and the Universe. Painting in acrylic on canvas, Tang-Wei’s technique includes emphasizing

of

outlines

and

layering flat areas of color to compress space and to create a sense of flatness in his paintings. Tang-Wei Hsu currently lives and works in New York and Taipei. He obtained a BA in Architecture from the Shih Chien University and completed his MFA in Visual Arts at the Tainan National University of the Arts. Other than painting, he also creates sculptures and public art installations. He was awarded the Asian Cultural Council Fellowship in year 2009.

Mella JAARSMA Mella Jaarsma was born in the Netherlands in 1960 where she studied visual art at Minerva Academy in Groningen (19781984). She left the Netherlands to study at the IKJ (Art Institute of Jakarta) in 1984, and at ISI (Indonesia Institute of the Arts) in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and stayed there ever since. Mella’s works have been widely exhibited

in

Indonesia

and

internationally and her works are in major public collections including

Queensland

Art

Gallery, Brisbane, Australia and the Singapore Art Museum.

(b.1989)

is

fascinated by evolution in the animal kingdom and how this process is shaped by changes in the environment. To bring to attention the importance in keeping an ecological balance on Earth and animal preservation, Gek

Ching

conjures

up

mysterious hybrids of animals. The animal-hybrid portraits are drawn in highly intricate details and textures to add realism to

the

fantastical

creatures,

each having their own unique characteristics and personality. Ieo Gek Ching was born and based in Singapore.

JIANG Shan 江 杉

Well established in the world of illustration, the talented Shan Jiang’s (b.1979) works transcend the boundary between fine art and illustration. His immaculately detailed and captivating works convey a myriad of human conditions and emotions in a wonderland setting that has become his trademark style. Shan graduated with a Master of Design (M.Des) at Edinburgh College of Art in 2004. Besides practicing as a professional artist, Shan is also currently art director and partner at Shotopop, London. Born in Shanghai, Jiang Shan currently lives and works in London. 20

Karena Lam is a Hong Kong based award-winning actress and singer, born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Well recognized as a talented star in the film industry and a prominent celebrity in Asia, Karena won the Best Supporting Actress and Best New Performer for her role in July Rhapsody directed by Ann Hui (at the Hong Kong Film Awards 2002) and for Inner Senses by Lo Chi Leung (at the Taiwan Golden Horse Awards 2002). .

Carmen NG 吳 嘉 敏 Hong Kong artist Carmen Ng (b.1988) derives her inspirations from

her

keen

observations

of the everyday life that she incorporates into her works. She would compose her works using very fine ink outlines and renders with washes of watercolor paints. Carmen received her Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Visual Arts from Hong Kong Baptist University in year 2011 and is works as an illustrator.

Tik Ka Ng 迪 嘉 Born in 1978, Hong Kong artist Tikka Ng first started his career in

the

advertising

industry,

completing numerous projects for some of the world’s prominent brands. Tikka’s art works, in both paintings and sculptural forms, hope to deliver an optimistic perspective and

sense

of

freedom

and

purity conveyed through several imaginary characters that he has created. These characters have been inspired by Chinese myths and folklore and the artist wishes that the younger generation can continue to inherit and embrace traditional culture through his works. Tikka currently lives and works in Hong Kong.

Yudha Kusuma PUTERA

Yudha Kusuma Putera, aka Fehung (born 1987), is part of the collective MES 56, a group of artists focused on experimental photo-based art and advancing the development of contemporary photography in Indonesia. Born in Magelang, Indonesia, Fehung graduated from the Indonesia Institute of the Arts Yogyakarta in 2012, majoring in photography. Since 2005, he has been living and working in Yogyakarta.

Putri Siswanto (b.1987) was born in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Since 2007, she has been working as a videographer in the Indonesian music scene. She is also working as a photographer for a fashion magazine. As an artist, she works in the photography, videography and installation media, often combining music with her art. Putri studied Recording Media Art at the Indonesia Institute of the Arts in Yogyakarta, Indonesia and graduated in 2012.

TAY Bak Chiang 鄭 木 彰

Tay Bak Chiang (b.1973) is constantly exploring and finding fresh perspectives to depict the ubiquitous Chinese painting themes, breaking away from the dependence on representational forms and combining innovative paint medium with brush technique. This approach has imbued the prolific artist with an artistic freedom to produce works that are distinctive and truly refreshing, making him one of the most dynamic contemporary ink artist to watch. Bak Chiang graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore where he obtained his Diploma in Fine Art. He furthered his studies at the China Academy of Fine Arts in People’s Republic of China.

 Born in Malaysia, Tay Bak Chiang is currently based in Singapore. 27

Wai Pong-yu (b.1982) was born in Hainan Island, China and moved to Hong Kong at age of 2 where he currently resides Wai Pong-yu’s works feature sensitive, delicate lines drawn repetitively with a ballpoint pen to build up and compose poetic imageries. He graduated with a Bachelor of Art (Fine Art) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2006. Pong-yu’s works have been widely collected by renowned private and public institutions. In 2008, the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco collected one of Pong-yu’s largest works, “Lake Dreams”. Pong-yu’s “A rhythm of landscape” is also in the collection of the Ashmolean Museum in University of Oxford.

Damon TONG 唐 偉 傑

Damon Tong (b.1979) is a Hong Kong artist. Damon is known for his repetitious collages and installations. Through the use of ready-made materials and objects (plastic toys and stickers) and their segmentation and repetitive arrangements, Damon attempts to transform and explore the spatial connections between image and text, sometimes in a humorous way. Damon Tong received his BA (Fine Art) from RMIT University in 2008 and Master of Visual Arts degree in Hong Kong Baptist University in 2013. .

Wang Yefeng (b.1984) is a digital media artist, using 3D computer graphics and digital moving images. While he is intrigued by the possibilities accorded by continual technological advancements in the new digital media, Yefeng is also equally fascinated by the limitations and imperfections of the digital tool from which he would derive ideas and unique characteristics for his art. Yefeng focuses on issues related to his cultural, political and social identity as a Chinese citizen. Born in Shanghai, he received his Bachelor of Fine Art Sculpture from Shanghai University in 2007 and a Master in Fine Art from the School of Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) in 2011. Yefeng actively pursues his artistic career in both China and America, and has been exhibited numerous art institutions and museums. He was also a residency artist in New York Artist Residency and Studios Foundation in the summer of 2013. Yefeng is currently based in New York and is an Assistant Professor teaching art at the Rhode Island College.

Eileen WONG 黃 薏 蓮

Eileen Wong is a Hong Kong-based artist. She received her formal fine art training in Australia. Eileen’s painting and sculpture works reflect her deep interest in biodiversity, in which she explores the intricate relationships and co-existence of human beings and animals. Her works have been exhibited and collected in Hong Kong and China.

WONG Yee Ki 黃 綺 琪 Wong Yee Ki is a contemporary ink artist, known for her surrealistic works painted in the classic Chinese “baimiao” method, a technique that demands precise and dexterous control of the brush. Yee Ki traces traditional compositions and superimposes contemporary

elements

unto

them to create new meanings and content. Yee Ki received her BA (2010) and

MFA

(2013)

from

the

Chinese University of Hong Kong. She has exhibited widely in Hong Kong and overseas.

Peony YIP Peony Yip (b.1990) who works under the pseudonym White Deer, was born in Jamaica and is currently based in Hong Kong. Her portraits of young women

rendered

in

pencil

and superimposed with nature, insects or animals expresses the spirituality of each individual and projects a sense of dynamism and mystery.
