Covering The World VitrA Tiles is a leading European manufacturer of professional and premium wall and floor tiles. Eight modern plants in Turkey, Ireland, Germany and France having an annual production capacity of 35 million m2, produce ceramic and porcelain tiles, 60 percent of which is sent to major international markets around the world. VitrA Tiles has sales offices and showrooms in Atlanta, Cork Dublin, Arklow, Moscow, Cologne, Sofia, Orleans and a wide product portfolio that includes ceramic wall tiles, ceramic and porcelain floor tiles, mosaic and glass mosaic tiles, swimming pool tiles and complementary pieces. The first producer of mosaic tiles in Turkey, VitrA Tiles has two extensive tile ranges - VitrA Rezidans and VitrA Arkitekt - providing a broad array of styles varying in size between 1 x 1 and 60 x 120 cm. VitrA Rezidans offers aesthetic designs and a wide variety of indoor and outdoor tiles for living areas. VitrA Arkitekt offers professional tiles designed primarily for industrial and commercial establishments. VitrA Tiles has an inhouse design team developing products for all kinds of living spaces, from bathrooms to kitchens and living rooms, terraces and pools. It also works with prominent international designers like Defne Koz, NOA and Ross Lovegrove to create special collections. Always the innovator, VitrA Tiles launches numerous new design concepts that reflect global design trends. These include stylish and highly durable porcelain tile series, mosaic tiles for every taste and other new products incorporating advanced surface technologies like VitrAclean, VitrAantibacterial and VitrAprotect.

W Hotels Location: Doha, Qatar Contractor: Nasa Multiplex Architect: Nick Fillipou, Multiplex Featuring 291 guest rooms and suites, 156 Luxury serviced apartments and four dedicated meeting rooms, the fantastically impressive W Doha is scheduled to open in November 2008. With the high-energy interiors and vivid, lifestyle driven design characteristic of W, the W Doha will offer guests multiple signature restaurants and lounges, the Bliss Spa, Sweat fitness centre and W's distinctive lobby, called the ‘Living Room.’ Apart from the vibrant energy and dramatic design, another theme that runs common to all W hotels is technology. A hugely popular hotel with the young and the aspirational, technology is integrated into the very spirit of W. From electronic check-in, iPod docking stations, IP telephones and interactive television in rooms to complete WiFi access and a meeting room with every conceivable facility, W takes technology and convenience very seriously indeed. Badekabiner Investor: Galliard-Homes Company Westminster Bridge Park Plaza is an opulent, luxurious Hotel situated directly opposite one of the capital's largest tube and rail transport hubs, occupying a commanding location with unrestricted views over the Thames, Big Ben and The Houses of Parliament. Park Plaza Hotels & Resorts are part of Carlson Hotels Worldwide, the world's ninth largest hotel company. The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge is set to be one of the most modern and architecturally striking apartment hotels in London when it is completed and opened by 2010. The construction of the new luxury hotel started in June 2007 and it is intended that the hotel should be ready to host guests attending the London Olympics in 2012. There will be 960 design-led self-contained studio guestrooms in Westminster Bridge Park Plaza, with extensive leisure facilities such as concept restaurants, bars and an onsite fitness centre with sauna, gym and Jacuzzi. Other facilities include one of London’s largest conference rooms, business lounges, executive meeting rooms, a ballroom, two restaurants, a brasserie, bars, and indoor pool.

Temple Tree Location: Bentota, Sri Lanka Architect: Vinod A. Jayasinghe Situated in the coastal city of Induruwa, five minutes away from Bentota, Temple Tree Resort & spa is an idyllic place for a romantic getaway. This deluxe boutique hotel consists of ten spacious designer rooms with open concept washrooms, pool with built in Jacuzzi made of natural stone and also a spa specialising in inventive interpretations of Asian treatments pampering the body. Sized at 60 sq.m approximately, including balcony and baths, the rooms feature sunken bathtubs and separate rain showers.

Dakota Nottingham Location: Sherwood Business Park Contractor: Straight Impact Design Director: Greg Brooks Architect: Amanda Rosa Interiors Tucked along a business park on the doorstep of Sherwood Forest, The Dakota Nottingham is aimed at people looking for something different. The work of award winning designer Amanda Rosa, the hotel style is warm and inviting throughout. The bedrooms have been designed to make guests feel at home with fabulous linens, exclusive toiletries, big towels and power showers. Dakota currently offers seven meeting rooms; one within the main hotel and six further rooms in the adjacent Innovate building. The Dakota Boardroom is ideal for formal meetings and corporate dining, a dark wood interior with leather armchairs round a large table. The Exhibition Space on the second floor in the Innovative Centre offers two large open areas, free of obstructions; perfect for product launches, exhibitions and product displays.
Greg Brookes: “Amanda Rosa Interiors worked together with the VitrA teams, both in the U.K. and in Turkey, to design and develop the bespoke bathroom products for Dakota Nottingham, the first Dakota hotel in the U.K., completed in 2004. Specific items supplied by VitrA included the vanity unit, taps and shower tray. The hotel has been an outstanding success both commercially and for its design. VitrA products have proven to be manufactured to a very high standard, robust and durable, and I would not hesitate to work with VitrA again on future hotel projects.� 17

Butlins Shoreline Hotel Location: Bognor Regis, U.K. Architect: Sam Stokoe, Newman Gauge This contemporary hotel is set in landscaped gardens and features 160 rooms over 4 floors, a lounge bar, restaurant and sun terraces. The Shoreline Hotel has a slightly futuristic, contemporary style with shades of a cruise liner about it. The nautical feel is reflected in the room naming and Shoreline’s stylish and spacious bedrooms range from studio level Hook’s Cabins; to Columbus Quarters; through to deluxe Nelson’s Staterooms, many of which come with balcony and sea views.

Also, all the furnishings of the hotel were selected for high design value, many of them specially made for here. Cornelia Golf Resort Location: Antalya, Turkey Contractor: Atölye T Architect & Atölye A Architect Architect: Atölye T Architect & Atölye A Architect The 115.000 sq.m Cornelia Golf Resort is a futuristic resort hotel set up on a 150.000 sq.m estate in Antalya, Belek. Equipped to offer the comfort of a five-star urban hotel, Cornelia Golf Resort has 600 rooms including ten suites and fifteen private villas. The golf club boasts Turkey’s first ever signature golf course spread over 1200 acres, as well as the first golf academy in the country. Two football fields and eleven tennis courts are among other sports facilities in the resort. The hotel also serves guests with a 5.000 sq.m spa center and a hi-tech 300 person congress center.

The ultra- modern hotel features the world’s largest cylindrical aquarium in its lobby, the 25 metre high AquaDom boasting 2,500 tropical fish and 1 million litres of salt-water. All 427 rooms and suites are tastefully decorated and have a spectacular view of either Berlin or the colourful ocean view of the AquaDom. The Club is spread over a 265 acre land, serving members and guests with a full range of amenities that include restaurants, swimming pool and an eight room boutique hotel. The spacious, laid-back complex closely follows traditional local architectural style. Accordingly, generous use was made of local building materials including Urla stone, wood and hand-made bricks. Interior and exterior floors are paved with aged beige and white travertine and other natural stones.

Queen Mary 2 Location: France, U.K. Contractor: Marbresol Five swimming pools adorning the deck of Queen Mary 2, the biggest cruiser of the world, have been covered with Vitra porcelains. Queen Mary 2 has five decks, and is 345 meters in length and has a 2600 passenger capacity. Construction of this luxury vessel was completed in December 2003 through efforts of over 3000 workers with a total cost of Eur 800 Millions. Pool tiles under Vitra Arkitekt Products; pool and channel edges, beading, corners, coveskirtings were designed specially for the project by engineers of Queen Mary 2 and Eczac›bafl› VitrA Tiles Project Team. All the porcelain materials, and ceramic parts of pools were chosen from the architectural program of VitrA. Vessel building engineers and Vitra engineers cooperated to respond to specific requirements for the construction of Queen Mary 2.

Absolut Icebar London is kept at minus 5 degrees all year round, and everything inside is made out of crystal clear ice transported especially from the Torne River in Jukkasjarvi, Sweden. The walls, bar, tables, and even the cocktail glasses are carved out of the purest ice. Every six months the bar is completely made over with a brand new design.

Cairo Tower Location: Cairo, Egypt Contractor: ARAB Contactors External Cladding Contractor: Alyoussef Co. Architect: Naoum Shabib The Cairo Tower is a free-standing concrete TV tower in the capital city of Egypt. 187 meters tall, in the form of a latticework tube that fans out slightly at the top, it is the world’s fourth highest tower. It is made of granite, the same material often used by the ancient Egyptians, and is about 45 meters taller than the Great Pyramid at Giza. Completed in 1961 under the direction of Naoum Shabib, some say that the tower is, after the Great Pyramid, Cairo's most famous landmark. Certainly this tallest of Cairo's buildings is a highlight of the modern city. Cairo tower is crowned by an observation deck and a restaurant.

Langworthy Location: Salford, U.K. Contractor: Urban Splash Architect: David Shanks, Shedkem Langworthy Park (Chimney Pot Park) represents a case study for the re-use of existing Victorian red brick terraces into modern housing to meet the changing needs of younger first time purchasers. The terraced houses in the Seedley and Langworthy area were built around 1910, laid out in a regular terraced grid and adjoining a neighbourhood park to the south. Elevated above street level, Langworthy Park was built on the infill site of a former reservoir, and affords views over the rooftops of the adjacent properties - for this reason, it has been known locally as ‘Chimney Pot Park’. Urban Splash's scheme consciously draws on the character of the neighbourhood, appropriating this name for its development. Their intervention is a small part of the wider Seedley and Langworthy area, roughly a five by two block parcel of the terraced housing grid.

Chips Location: Ancoats, U.K. Pod Producer: Offsite Solutions Architect: Alsop Quirky, bold and robust, Chips forms the first major development for the Alsop designed masterplan for New Islington in Manchester. The ‘Chips’ building comprises three equal-height, long, thin new build masses approximately 100m long by 14m wide stacked and staggered upon one another creating an elevated ground floor and eight levels of apartments. The building is clad in a composite wall faced with a cladding covered in newspaper print with text that echoes the industrial heritage of the Ancoats area. The design provides a mix of living and studio units and a 420sq.m destination restaurant within a single project. The one, two and three bedroom apartments are planned internally around a central ‘pod’ unit, housing the bathroom and kitchen areas. The apartments can be open plan or sub-divided by the use of large folding screens.

Moho Project Location: Manchester, U.K. Contractor: Urban Splash Architect: ShedKM Architects Short for modular housing, the Moho project is the first ever private housing scheme in the U.K. for which all 102 apartments were constructed in a factory before being assembled on site. Coming in a varied mixture of sizes and types, the apartments are based on a factory produced pre-fabricated residential unit which, through a series of additional clip on components, give compact, high quality accommodation for sale in the private sector. Moho develops the application of pre-fabrication already successfully used in mixed tenure housing, and transfers it to the private sector. Though the spaces are compact, the addition of prefab balconies create areas for residents to have parties, grow small gardens, and meet up with their neighbors for after-work drinks. Customized furniture was built in to make good use of the space and to save money. The bathrooms were finished in the same Fermacel wallboard as the living areas.

The world’s largest silk mills in its heyday, Lister Mills was built in 1838 but burnt down in 1871. In 2000 award winning property developers Urban Splash bought the mills and, through an extensive renovation, brought Listers back to life in the space of a few years. The magnificent mills have been converted into a range of new uses including apartments, commercial offices and studios, community space and leisure activities.

Situated in, as well as repositioning the expansive North Bucharest area, this multi-storey residential development overlooks an old forest that is under nature conservancy. Baneasa Residential consists of three residential building types for five-storey buildings - twelve buildings with 227 apartments over underground parking garages in Phase One, to be followed by seven-storey buildings - 99 apartments in total - in Phase Two. The almost completed Phase One comprises twelve apartment buildings - 227 apartments and 391 underground parking spaces, located on four newly established city plots of 4, 5 hectares at the Northern entrance into the growing Baneasa Development. The complex consists of two separate halls: Herrenhalle with a 250 sq.m shallow pool serving beginners, seniors or persons with special needs, as well as an 18 sq.m wading pool for toddlers; and Sportschwimhalle with an 835 sq.m pool serving sports swimmers.

Nearly 5 thousand sq.m of VitrA tiles in total cover the floors and walls of the pools, dressing rooms, kitchens and rest rooms of the Therme.

Etterbeek Pool Location: Centre Sportif D’Etterbeek, Belgium
Etterbeek is one of the nineteen municipalities located in the Brussels-Capital Region of Belgium. The sports center of the municipality features a covered 25m x 14m, 6 lane swimming pool, a 7m x 14m training pool, a resting area with a sauna and a jacuzzi, as well as a fitness hall below ground level. Built in 1976, the Centre Sportif D’Etterbeek was destroyed in a fire and had to be completely rebuilt in 2002. VitrA Arkitekt Color and Pool series tiles were used in the restoration of the swimming pool.

Heathrow Airport - Terminal 5 Location: London, U.K. Contractor: Mansells Architect: Richard Rogers (RRP) Serving 30 million passengers a year, Terminal 5 Heathrow is the busiest of all BAA’s terminals. Terminal 5 is intended to reinforce Heathrow's position as Europe's principal intercontinental hub. The client, British Airports Authority (BAA) and the major tenant, British Airways, required a new terminal building and satellite on a site covering some 250 hectares - a complex capable of handling up to 36 million passengers a year. With over 50 WC facilities throughout the terminal, all needing to meet strict design, accessibility and durability criteria, a new approach to the washroom specification was required. T5's accessibility strategy demanded that all washroom facilities should not only meet but surpass the current Part M Regulations and Design Disabilities Act. Unfortunately there was no product in the market place that met the requirements. Not willing to accept the usual approach adopted of 'tacking on' an unsightly and unhygienic back box to the rear of a standard WC pan in order to meet the 750 mm projection, BAA Design approached VitrA U.K. Ltd.

Berlin-Schönefeld Airport Location: Berlin, Germany Contractor: Flughafen Berlin Schönefeld GmbH The international Berlin-Schönefeld Airport is currently one of Berlin’s three airports. The facility is scheduled to be transformed into Berlin-Brandenburg International Airport in 2011, when the other two airports will close and BBI will remain as the German capital’s single airport with an up to 50 million passenger capacity. Founded in 1934, the historic Berlin-Schönefeld is popular with vacationers, and is often referred to as “The Holiday Airport” due to its international charter flight load. VitrA Ararat Ivory Porcelain Tiles were chosen to cover the check-in areas of the recently renovated Terminal D of Berlin-Schönefeld. A total of 8000 sq.m gleaming Ararat Ivory cheerfully greets the passengers as they make their way to and from sunny destinations. Manufactured to endure the challenges of high traffic areas, stylish VitrA porcelain tiles remain a favorite of international projects across the globe.

Munich Airport Location: Munich, Germany Contractor: Flughafen München GmbH Architect: Koch + Partner Architekten und Stadtplaner Serving nearly 35 million passengers a year, Munich Airport is the second busiest airport in Germany in terms of passenger traffic. It began operations in 1992, replacing the former international airport in Munich-Riem. Terminal 2 was finished in June 2003. 8,000 sqm of VitrA Arkitekt ceramic tiles adorn the bathrooms of Munich Airport’s new terminal. Endorsing VitrA’s high quality, airport designers selected VitrA tiles for Business and VIP lounge bathrooms as well as for general public bathrooms. 10,000 sqm of the project consist of VitrA’s 5x5 Cobalt Blue tiles from the Arkitekt Color series.

VitrA Arkitekt Color & Porcelain Tiles were preferred in the Sheremetyevo Airport.
Winner of Russia’s ARX 2007 Architecture Award in Transportation Buildings Category, the project involves construction of the third terminal of Sheremetyevo Airport to serve as an international gateway to Moscow. Used by more than 40 international airlines, as well as Russian airlines and those of other CIS countries, Sheremetyevo Airport currently has two domestic and international passenger terminals: Sheremetyevo-1 and Sheremetyevo-2, respectively, plus related airport facilities. The construction of the new terminal will increase passenger handling capacity without limiting the operations of the existing Airport facilities, and create the required reserve capacity for the future reconstruction of Sheremetyevo-1 and Sheremetyevo-2 terminals.
Volkan Duruk, the veteran head of ENKA’s architectural group, insisted on using VitrA tiles in all possible areas because he has decades of experience with the brand’s quality and reliability. A total of 46,000 sq.m of porcelain and ceramic tiles were used in the Sheremetyevo project, all from VitrA's Arkitekt series. The head of mechanical works Yasin Vural also voted for VitrA, based on durability, design and quality considerations. 155

Architect: Arketipo Design Designed and developed primarily to serve as a bank's headquarters, Parkview Office Tower is centrally located in downtown Almaty, Kazakhstan. With a 23.500 sq.m floor area, the modern 16 storey Parkview office building is designed to be a new landmark in Kazakhstan’s largest city.

Asia Plaza Location: Taipei Neihu Science Park Zone, Taiwan Designer: P&T Group HongKong Chief designer Mr. Remo Riva Architect: Mr. Chen Chuan Tzung Taipei Neihu Science Park is the second R&D park in Taiwan, specifically targeting high-tech electronic or new venture enterprises. Currently over 2.000 companies have their offices in Neihu Science Park. Located at the hub of the Neihu Park, Asia Plaza is the largest development project in Neihu, as well as the biggest foreign investment project in Taiwan’s commercial property market to date. The plaza complex includes three towers of business offices - Towers A, B and C - bordering on a large open square with roads on all four sides to ensure logistic convenience. As a strategically located high-tech landmark, Asia Plaza not only offers state-of-the-art facilities, but its natural lighting and expansive views of its botanical garden and surroundings also compliment the building’s architectural splendor. Restaurants and coffee shops are interspersed in each of the towers to add comfort and leisure for afterbusiness activities.

Vodafone Turkey Headquarters Location: ‹stanbul, Turkey Contractor: GMW Architecture & Consulting Architect: GMW Architecture & Consulting The project consisted of a complete makeover of Ece Plaza rented by the British GSM operator Vodafone to serve as the company’s Turkish headquarters. The building was substantially rehauled in structural terms, and the interior spaces were refurbished, to respond to the fast-paced business activity of a global giant and to reflect Vodafone’s corporate identity. Intended to serve as the office quarters of nearly a thousand Vodafone employees, the plaza has about 13.000 sq.m net usable space, 9.500 sq.m of technical service and car park areas, and six terraces with a total area of 2.000 sq.m available to the staff.

Danish TV Location: Copenhagen, Denmark Contractor: Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects Architect: Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects The Danish Radio and Television Building DR Byen is situated in Orestad Nord, a large development area in Copenhagen. The design for DR Byen was selected through a series of international competitions. Vilhelm Lauritzen AS, which won the Master Plan competition, made the design for Section 1. Dissing+Weitling’s design was chosen for Section 2, Gottlieb & Paludan's and Nobel’s design for Section 3, and the Jean Nouvel architectural firm's design for Section 4 (concert hall). The DR Byen master plan was inspired by the “casbah” concept of Middle Eastern cities. In this “casbah” where the four buildings designed by four different architects are situated, the buildings are linked by an inner street that is also designed to be the meeting place for DR Byen. Rising from the second to the sixth floor, the inner street creates a glass roofed communal area. This transparency allows for light, open and inviting spaces that dominate the entire complex.

Four Winds Complex Location: Moscow, Russia Contractor: Rasen Construction Architect: NBBJ The brand new Four Winds Complex is a modern business centre and housing estate located on Yamskaya Street, one of the oldest main arteries of Moscow. The 70,000 sq.m multi-purpose complex was completed in two phases. The first phase of the development comprises 17,556 sqm of Class A office space, 3,416 sqm of retail space and 5,016 sqm of underground parking. The second phase includes 17,875 sq.m of residential apartments, 1,008 sq.m of retail space, a 3,846 sqm fitness centre and 13,692 sq.m of underground parking.
“We chose VitrA to complement the distinctive architecture of Four Winds, because with VitrA it was possible to combine various colors and dimensions in one frame and form unique rooms for public use. VitrA was able to extend many solutions as a onestop-shop and that was very attractive for the designer.
