Graciela Rodo Boulanger "Allegro con Brio"

Graciela Rodo Boulanger, an internationally acclaimed artist, captures the joys of childhood through her artwork. It wasn't until the age of 25, after pursuing music education in Chile, Austria and Argentina, that she decided to dedicate herself to her true passion: painting. Since her debut solo exhibition in Vienna in 1953, Rodo Boulanger has explored various artistic mediums, including etching, lithography, watercolor, pastel, sculpture and tapestry.

Her artistic journey has seen more than 150 exhibitions held across five continents. In 1979, UNICEF recognized her as the official artist for the International Year of The Child poster. Numerous prestigious institutions, such as the Museum of Modern Art of Latin America in Washington, D.C., the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in La Paz, and the Modern Art Center in Zurich, have acquired her works.

"Allegro con Brio" is a testament to Boulanger's unparalleled ability to capture the essence of childhood exuberance and innocence. With a harmonious interplay of form and color, Boulanger presents a scene where children play musical instruments with an energy that transcends the canvas, inviting viewers to partake in their joyful rhythm. Japan by Sea: Land of the Rising Sun May 14–25, 2024

Discover a Japan that few visitors see — from the bustle of Tokyo to the tranquil historic quarters of Kanazawa and the island worlds of Miyajima and Sado — during this eight-night cruise. Excursions highlight both cutting-edge modern architecture in Tokyo and the ancient traditions of Japan, with visits to sacred temples and shrines, celebrated gardens and castles and private cultural performances. During special events, attend a performance of Kodo drummers on Sado Island, soak in thermal waters in Miyajima and partake in a traditional tea ceremony in Kanazawa.

Engage with your expert study leader — Erez Manela, the Francis Lee Higginson Professor of History at Harvard University — throughout this unique educational program and gain a better appreciation of Japan’s historical and cultural significance. This is a moderately strenuous program that is, at times, physically demanding and busy. Daily excursions involve up to one mile of walking at a time, often on uneven terrain. The Heritage Adventurer welcomes just 140 passengers in her spacious and stylish interior. All cabins offer living and sleeping areas with a king or two single beds, flat screen entertainment system, ample storage, a writing desk and a modern ensuite bathroom.
