Financial aid must be approved before recipients can enroll. As some programs fill up quickly, we recommend applying at least one to two weeks before the start of your lesson, class or camp. Youth Music Classes

Group classes are an exciting and collaborative way to start learning an instrument or begin playing in an ensemble. Our expert teaching musicians guide students step-by-step along the path of music.

Introductory classes introduce students to musicianship skills and instrument-specific techniques that prepare them for placement in private instruction and intermediate music studies.

Ensembles provide a supportive environment for learning to make music as a team and augmenting skills developed in private lessons.

Choir classes introduce singers to a wide variety of choral music while learning solfege, music theory, ear training and beginning harmony. Start with Training Choir to learn in a supportive environment (no experience required) or advance your choral journey with our Performance Choir class (audition only).

Your Complete Music Education

Private lesson students are offered a range of opportunities to pursue and expand their study of music:

Music Theory: CSMA’s comprehensive music theory classes enhance students’ private study on their instrument. These sequential, skill-building classes offer an interactive curriculum based on the building blocks of music including rhythm, melody and harmony as well as ear training and sight singing. Additionally, students are introduced to the principles of composition, the study of music history and analysis of musical forms. Students develop music literacy to reinforce and build on what they learn in their private lessons.

CSMA private lesson students receive a 50% discount when they add a theory class to their private lesson schedule. Contact musicclasses@arts4all.org to receive more information.

Workshop Weeks: Workshop Weeks (only fall and spring semesters) feature a series of special workshops led by CSMA music faculty. Past workshops have included: Recital Preparation, Music History and Composing Your Own Music.

Merit Scholar Program: The Merit Scholar Program supports students who show a high degree of dedication to their craft and are looking to take their studies to a deeper level. This select group of students is admitted to the program through annual audition and receive additional performance, ensemble, and other

learning opportunities. Merit Scholars are regarded as ambassadors of the Music School and have been accepted into some of the nation’s most prestigious music programs including The Juilliard School, New England Conservatory of Music and Berklee College of Music.

Music Examinations: Many CSMA faculty prepare students for the Associated Board of Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM), Royal Conservatory of Music Exam Program (RCM) and Certificate of Merit (CM) exams.

Important policies

Refunds: Students may request to withdraw or change teachers within three business days after the second scheduled lesson. Requests for withdrawal must be made in writing by email to the Private Lesson Team, privatelessons@arts4all.org. After this three day period, no refunds or teacher changes are granted.

Absences and make-ups: There is no school credit, reimbursement or refund for missed lessons due to a student’s absence. CSMA does not guarantee a makeup for a missed lesson due to a student’s absence. If a lesson is missed due to a teacher’s absence, a make-up lesson will be scheduled.
