SUMMER 2018
Letter from our Executive Director Welcome to the 2018 Summer Session at the Community School of Music and Arts! We love summer at CSMA. The halls, classrooms and courtyard are full of the sounds of music and laughter from busy, summer campers. The whole building comes alive with creativity all summer long! We hope that you and your family will join us. In our 50th year of serving our community with music and art, we are excited to announce plans to expand our Finn Center campus. Our Room4All expansion project includes a 3,350 square foot state-of-the-art new wing. Named in honor of longtime supporters Ruth and Roy Rogers, the Rogers Wing will allow us to greatly increase the number of students we are able to engage and inspire through arts education. The Rogers Wing will include: • Additional private lesson space • New digital lab • Additional parking • Much-needed additional storage space
• State-of-the-art classrooms • Multi-purpose rooms • Sheet music library for all instruments and genres
We hope you will support us in our Room4All campaign for the new building expansion. On behalf of CSMA’s staff, faculty, and Board of Directors, thank you for being a part of our community, for your continued support of our programs and for believing in the power of the arts! Sincerely,
Vickie Scott Grove Executive Director

“I have worked many years as an early childhood educator and I weave music into my daily curriculum. My background allows me to bring a unique teaching style to my classes, incorporating singing with guitar, musical games, movement and exploration of rhythm instruments.”
“My passion is working with preschool-age children, giving them opportunities to be creative in art. In the style of Reggio Emelia, I provide a creative art environment that gives children the opportunity to observe, inquire, explore and use fine motor and cognitive skills. Art provides them with an awareness of themselves and their surroundings.”
Christina Stein “I studied music at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. I have taught music and movement to young children for several years and also have an in-depth knowledge of brass instruments and music theory. I enjoy exposing young children to the joys of music making!”
Summer 2018
Ximena Vilela “I love encouraging preschool age children to find their own creative individuality through hands on and motor skills experience. I graduated with an AA degree from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise and have been teaching art to preschoolers for 2 years. I am currently studying for my child development certificate.”

Music is Movement
This class uses the Dalcroze method (also known as eurythmics) as a powerful and energetic way to experience the natural awareness of music through movement. Students will use the whole body as a musical instrument, performing or interpreting music concepts such as meter and phrase. Storytelling, use of percussion, ear training and improvisation, and use of balls, scarves and hoops make this a fun, activity based-class. Dalcroze is an ideal complement to instrumental lessons, or for children who are preparing to learn an instrument. Please Note: Students must be entering Kindergarten or 1st grade to enroll in this class.
