More Arts in More Places for More People
Message from Our Board Chair I am pleased to share with you this brief summary of the past year at ArtsBuild!
This was a landmark year for ArtsBuild – the organization’s 50th Anniversary. At this point of having served the communit y for five decades, it is natural to look back on all that has been accomplished and to reminisce on how our cit y – and our arts communit y – has grown and changed. More importantly, this moment in time gives us an opportunit y to look ahead, at all the potential that lies in the question: What can the arts do for the communit y?
At ArtsBuild we work each day toward a vision of More Arts in More Places for More People, investing your donations and communit y resources in three main areas – arts access, arts education and arts leadership. We expect the next 50 years to be full of exciting possibilities and unique ways that the arts can benefit each of us as individuals and as a societ y.
We thank you, our donors and friends. The support we are able to spread across Hamilton Count y relies on the generosit y and dedication of everyone to make the arts a thriving part of this communit y.
Sincerely,
Dr. Mary Poston Tanner

Program Highlights
Ruth Holmberg Arts Leadership Award ArtsBuild honored Warren Barnett as the recipient of the 2019 Ruth Holmberg Arts Leadership Award. We hosted a lovely reception at the Hunter Museum of American Art on March 12, 2019 to recognize his exemplary leadership and philanthropy for the arts in Chattanooga.
Speakers included Dan Bowers, President of ArtsBuild, Virginia Anne Sharber, Executive Director of the Hunter Museum of American Art, and ArtsBuild Board Chair Dr. Mary Poston Tanner. ArtsBuild Board Member Edna Varner presented the award. We enjoyed music performed by the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera Woodwind Quintet, a selection from Chattanooga Theatre Centre's production of Disney's Newsies, and a special performance by the Chattanooga Ballet.
Planning for Arts Education Chattanooga-Hamilton County has been chosen as the 26th site in the country for Ensuring the Arts for Any Given Child. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts' Ensuring the Arts for Any Given Child program assists communities in developing and implementing a plan for expanded arts education while ensuring access and equity for all students in grades K-8.
A Community Arts Team of twenty-six individuals from the education, arts and business sectors met from September 2018 through May 2019 to develop the vision and goals for our local Any Given Child initiative. ArtsBuild will administer the Community Arts Team going forward, whose work will involve arts education visioning and orientation sessions, developing a roster of community arts education resources, and community-wide arts education engagement programs.

THANK YOU!
Our Annual Campaign is vital to our mission to build a stronger community through the arts. Each year hundreds of donors – individuals, businesses, foundations, and our city and state governments – give generously to support the arts in Chattanooga and Hamilton County through ArtsBuild. The campaign supports not only Mission Support and Community Cultural Connections grants invested back into the community, but also all of our education programs, trainings, and special initiatives that support the overall health of the arts community. We appreciate every gift! You can view our current list of donors at ArtsBuild.com.
