Youth Arts Classes at The ArtsCenter include a comprehensive roster of arts classes for kids of all ages! Painting, Cartooning, and Capoeria are just a few of the options available for artists grades K-12.

AFTERSCHOOL ARTS IMMERSION

We’ve heard your voice and have adapted our popular AfterSchool Arts Immersion program to accommodate your part-time needs! Choose from 2, 3, or 4-day options and your young artist can be immersed in the arts on days that best suit your busy schedule! Transportation is also provided from select schools. Full-time options still available.

ArtSchool at The ArtsCenter is Orange County’s most comprehensive non-profit resource for continuing education in the arts on a non-degree, community basis. Opportunities abound for students of all ages to try their hand at a variety of artistic media or to increase their skills in intermediate/advanced classes. DECEMBER Transactors Improv Holiday Extravaganza Saturday, December 1 @ 8 p.m. Celebrate the ups and downs of the holiday season-before you’re sick of it-with Transactors’ Holiday Extravaganza. This company tradition features music, merriment, and an extra vaganza in case one isn’t enough. $14 Advance, $16 Day-Of. $12 Friends. Students/ Seniors $7 Advance, $9 Day-Of. Elf Fair Saturday, December 1 @11 am to 5 pm. The 6th Annual Elf Fair, an indoor festival of holiday arts and crafts, will feature over thirty local artists offering jewelry, pottery, clothing, accessories, candles, toys, and lots of unique, affordable items for all ages. Support your neighborhood elves and find gifts that are truly one of a kind! The bar will be open for holiday beverages, and food trucks will be on-site during the event. Bring your camera and take photos with Santa! Kids activities and great raffles, too! No admission fee. FREE Songwriter’s Circle Every Other Monday @ 7:30 pm The ArtsCenter provides an evening every other week for composers to share their work with each other and receive both encouragement and honest feedback. Every other Monday of the month in the Gallery. Dec 3 • Dec. 17 • 7:30-9:30pm FREE All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914 Dec. 7-9 & 13-16 • Thurs-Sat 8pm, Sundays 3 pm On Christmas Eve, 1914, thousands of German and English soldiers put down their guns and left their trenches to meet their enemies in No Man’s Land. All is Calm commemorates an extraordinary moment in history where the words ‘Peace on Earth’ are reinvested with their true meaning.. The Southeast Premiere also features the Cantari Men’s Ensemble . Second Sundays: Triangle Narratives Film Sunday, December 9. 4 p.m. Second Sunday Film Series brings to light the work of local filmmakers. Narrative and experimental films are highlighted with a diverse range of storytelling from local filmmakers. Each film screening will be a combination of touching, zany, dark, and hilarious short fiction films. There is a Q&A with the filmmakers after each screening. $5 Public Old Time and Bluegrass Slow Jam Monday, December 10 @ 5:45 pm Grab your fiddle, guitar, banjo, or mandolin and come join us at Old-Time and Bluegrass Slow Jam! Whether you’re a beginner or a long-time player, bassist or vocalist, this jam will be an opportunity to hone your skills and have fun! FREE Irish Slow Jam Monday, December 10 @ 4:30 pm By popular demand, The ArtsCenter is adding an Irish Slow Jam to the Monday mix, right before the Oldtime & Bluegrass Slow Jam! Deborah Russell will lead these sessions, especially designed for young people, retirees, or anyone just starting out. Bring your fiddle, flute, bouzouki, bones, bodhrán, guitar or cittern to The ArtsCenter’s Gallery. FREE Triangle Jazz Orchestra Night Wednesday, December 12 @ 7:45 pm Come dance or listen to the Triangle’s very own 17 piece big band, celebrating the sounds of Count Basie, Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman. FREE The Chuckle and Chortle Comedy Show Saturday, December 15 @ 8:30 pm Whether you like to Chortle (a snorting, joyful laugh) or Chuckle (to laugh quietly or to oneself, to cluck or chuck, as a hen) this show is for you! Come do one or both with local stand-up comedians! $5 Public Almost Ready: A Series of Plays by NC Writers Sunday, December 16 @ 4 pm Almost Ready offers audiences a chance to see a series of simply staged full length plays written by North Carolina writers. These productions are seen as the last step before deciding what, if anything, needs to be tweaked to make these plays suitable for full production. December’s play is The Art of Deception by Keith Burridge FREE
