WELCOME TO OREGON CHILDREN’S THEATRE! I am so excited about Oregon Children’s Theatre’s 3oth Anniversary season, a season that demonstrates our values and passion. Here’s some inside information that you can’t find in the season brochure. Judy Moody & Stink: The Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Treasure Hunt is a co-commission between OCT and six other children’s theater companies who will produce their own production of the play during the 2017–2018 season, a rolling world premiere. This is a historically large collaboration. Creating new plays and partnering with our colleagues across the nation are at the core of how we have grown over the last 30 years. I have been chasing Pete the Cat, well, not literally, for several years with no luck. Three days before we were going to announce the season, the rights became available and I couldn’t pass it up. Teachers have requested this title over and over because young readers love these books. OCT champions literacy through our Ticket to Read program, which brings thousands of kids to the theater free of charge, and puts a brand-new book into each of their hands. We help make reading fun and reinforce its value to every child.

accomplished hip hop poet whose albums include Break Beat Poems and Rhyming While Black. We are so happy to have his voice in our season telling the story of an amazing athlete, activist, and hero. A colleague from Dallas Children’s Theatre introduced me to The Very Hungry Caterpillar Show. I was immediately struck by the joy and delight that this show brings to an audience. It is art; it is entertainment; it is spectacular. The revival of OCT’s 2012 hit musical, A Year With Frog and Toad, speaks to the quality of OCT’s productions. Under the brilliant direction of Dani Baldwin, OCT’s Education Director, the 2012 production garnered awards in the musical theater categories for Outstanding Actor, Supporting Actor, Young Actor, Set Design, Costume Design, Choreography, and Outstanding Production. If you are a subscriber, I hope you renew your subscription. If you are not a subscriber yet, I think this is the year to take the leap!

SKYLAR DERTHICK

(Peter) Skylar is a student at Camas High and has enjoyed performing since he was eight. You may have seen him as Zeke Matthews in Goosebumps the Musical or in Junie B. Jones as Sheldon Potts. Outside of theater, Skylar enjoys running, photography, and being active in school clubs and programs. He wants to thank his family for their continuous support and involvement in everything he does. He hopes you all enjoy the show and have a wonderful time!

AMY JO HALLIDAY

(Dr. Wink) Amy Jo’s claim to fame is playing Christine in The Phantom of the Opera (Broadway tour). She has also had her singing voice featured in a Mountain Dew commercial played during the Super Bowl! Originally from Phoenix, Amy Jo moved to Oregon 14 years ago, and a year later began performing in Portland area theater. She has worked for Broadway Rose, Pixie Dust, Portland Center Stage, Portland Opera, and many others. Amy Jo has four children and is an elementary school teacher.

Some of her favorite roles have been: Gatekeeper in Wizard of Oz (NWCT) and Jojo in Seussical (Theatre in the Grove). Grace is a freshman at Forest Grove High School and an OCT Young Professional. In her free time, she loves to sing, dance, and spend time with her amazing friends. Grace is extremely grateful for the opportunities Dani and Stan have given her this year and for her family and friends who support her always!

GERRIN DELANE MITCHELL

Some favorite recent roles include Fly Guy in Fly Guy: The Musical and Ladahlord in James and the Giant Peach (OCT), Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland (NWCT), Mowgli in Jungle Book, Seabee Richard West in South Pacific, Oberon in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Trash in Spaced Out: The Alien Abduction Musical and (...) This performance is dedicated to his nieces whom he often tells, “You are what you eat!”

KAI TOMIZAWA

(Pinkalicious) Kai is ecstatic to be in her second role with OCT! She was previously seen as Junie B. in Junie B. Jones and was awarded both a 2016 Drammy and a PAMTA for her role. Most recently, Kai played Raz in A Civil War Christmas (Artists Repertory Theatre), and Alice in Alice in Wonderland (NWCT). Kai is also a budding playwright and was a 2016 finalist in a national playwright contest, Young Playwrights for Change through OCT. When not studying, singing, or acting, you will most likely see Kai riding her unicycle, making short films with her family, or harmonizing with her sister, Mika. Kai sends a heartfelt thanks to her friends and family for their love and support.

DANIELLE VALENTINE

(Mrs. Pinkerton) This is Danielle’s fourth show at OCT and she feels so lucky to be back! Danielle has enjoyed working with various theater companies around town including Broadway Rose, Lakewood, Stumptown Stages, and others. When not acting, Danielle enjoys teaching preschool and musical theater to young artists. She probably would never turn pink from eating too many cupcakes, but would more likely turn a lovely shade of baguette brown from all the bread she consumes. She dedicates this show to her bread loving companion, Jared.

PORTLAND’5 CENTERS FOR THE ARTS Founded in 1988, Oregon Children’s Theatre (OCT) is Oregon’s largest nonprofit professional children’s theater company. OCT’s mission is to create exceptional theater experiences that transform lives. OCT annually reaches 120,000 children, parents, and educators from more than 18 Oregon and four Washington counties. OCT offers a year-round Acting Academy for students ages 3–18 and the unique Young Professionals mentoring program. The company also offers a range of services to schools and the community, including teacher professional development, resource guides and suggested lesson plans, Loud & Clear (a public speaking workshop), an extensive outreach program, and student internship and apprenticeship opportunities. Under the shared vision of healthier kids and communities, Kaiser Permanente Northwest and OCT are delivering free Educational Theatre Programs to schools and community organizations in Oregon and SW Washington. This innovative collaboration helps catalyze healthy life choices. Through free touring productions, residencies, workshops and after-school programs, the Educational Theatre Program has served over 300,000 students since its inception in 2006. Oregon Children’s Theatre is a resident company of Portland’5 Centers for the Arts and a member of Theatre Communications Group, Travel Portland, and ASSITEJ, the international children’s theater association.
