China, circa 1796 -1820 A fine and rare pair of large Chinese caparisoned cloisonné elephants, each standing four square, each with their head turned and trunk curled and raised, the wrinkled skin depicted with linear cloisons on a white ground, each supporting a wide elaborate saddle carpet on its back, upon which rests a large double gourdshaped vase, the saddle and vase scrolling foliate lotus design bordered by cobaltblue key fret, all reserved on a yellow or turquoise ground. Robert Wood: A Red Japanned Bracket Clock England, 18th century A very fine George III eight day japanned bracket clock by Robert Wood. The case beautifully decorated with gilt chinoiseries on a scarlet japanned ground, with a brass carrying handle and pineapple finials to the inverted bell top; the sides with elaborate silk lined pierced sound frets. The dial with foliate spandrels to a silvered chapter ring with a silvered centre and concentric date ring and signed ‘Rob.t Wood/London’, with blued steel hands to indicate the time and the date, with strike/ silent ring in the arch. The movement is in excellent working order with five pillars, twin line fuses and verge escapement, strike and trip repeat on bell, the back plate engraved with foliate scrolls. A Japanese Imari Charger Japan, circa 1700 An exceptional Japanese Imari charger of particularly large scale. Of circular form with a shallow bowl, painted in dark underglaze blue with shades of iron red overglaze enamels and gilded highlights, the central panel decorated with a tall vase holding a bouquet of blossoming peony and feathery grasses and placed on a low table, the border profusely decorated with stylised flowers and panels with floral arrangements. An almost identical charger can be seen in the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, formerly in the collections of Augustus the Strong in Dresden.
