자살을 주제로 한 「Why」 시리즈로 김소희 작가의 첫 개인전이다. 작가는 자 살의 상황들을 리서치하고 모의자살을 연출하여 자살에 관한 소통을 구하고 있다. The "Why" series, motivated by suicide, is also the first solo exhibition of Kim Sohwee. She is seeking to communicate about suicide by researching the situation and directing virtual suicides.

전시제목 「보안여관, 술화(述話) 의 물화(物話)」는 보안여관이라 는 특정한 장소에서 일어났을 법 한 이야기들을 복합감각과 다원 예술적으로 풀어나가기 위해 붙 여졌다. 3인의 예술가는 미디어를 바탕으로 시각과 음악, 문학의 소 통이 야기하는 현상에 주목하였 다.

작가는 익명의 개인과 동시대인 이 소요하는 공간이란는 여관의 속성의 지점에 주목한다. 이 속 성은 ’하얀 수석’시리즈에서 시 대적 고민과 사유들을 담고 있 으며, 소용을 다하고 버려진 것 들에 대한 가치를 재발견하고 있다. Park Soyoung focuses on the space of the Inn, which is shared with historical individuals and contemporary people. She expresses her reflections and agony about the contemporary era through her "white stone" series, and rerecovers the values of stones thrown out of use.

SOFT WALL PROJECT 2011. 5. 19 ~ 2011. 6. 6 이수진 개인전 Lee Sujin solo exhibition 이수진은 산업용 포장재인 폴리프 로필렌(PP) 밴딩라인을 사용하여 보안여관 내부에 벽을 만들고 허물 었다. 이러한 수행적 구축과 해체 는 삶의 순환과도 상통하며 작가와 건물의 상호작용의 경험을 기록한 다. Lee Sujin builds up walls inside Boan Inn using Polypropylene banding line, a packaging material for industrial use. 이 전시는 군산이라는 특정 도시가 갖는 특수한 역사성에 주목 하고 이를 전시 장소인 보안여관과 연결한다. 식민화, 근대화, 산업화, 신자유주의라는 한국사의 전개과정을 시각적 화면으 로 오버랩시키고 있다. This exhibition focuses on the history of Gunsan City, and it reflects it onto Boan Inn. It overlaps the histories of the colonial era, modernization, industrialization, and neocapitalism onto the screen.

전시는 작가가 간직한 오래 된 한장의 뱃놀이 사진으로 연유되었다. 인물상들이 갖 는 해학과 유머는 인간의 내 면에 자리한 욕망과 거짓 등 의 생활사의 디테일을 보여 준다. This exhibition originated from the artist's old picture of a boat picnic. The people depicted in the show have a humorous touch, and show the details of life, such as desire and the lies that lie deep in the mind.

This exhibition is about so-called "photo film", experimental genre-complex photography. Eight photographers show their own episodes combined with site specific elements of Boan Inn. It was a part of Seoul Lunar Photo Festival (2014) Event.

Tonghuidong Public Artist Market is a project street market that sells creative food designed by artists, as well as showcasing singing and performances. It held an auction that sells songs by artists (who sing better than the real singers) and artworks.

사회와 개인, 삶과 예술의 관계를 모색하는 생활밀착형 예술공간 경복궁 옆 서촌의 중심에 자리한 ‘통의동 보안여관(artspace Boan1942)’은 1936년 시(詩)동인지 <시인부락>이 시작된 근대문학의 발상지이자 약 80여년간 나그네들의 쉼의 공간이었다. 2006년 부터 현재까지 동시대 문화를 만들어가는 문화예술생산자와 그 문화를 사랑하고 향유하는 사람들의 공간으로 사용 되고있다. 새로운 컨셉트 의 신축공간 ‘보안1942(Boan1942)’는 ‘통의동 보안여관'이 갖는 장소특성적 역사문화의 토대위에 바라보고 생 각하기(see), 거주하기(sleep), 먹기(eat), 읽기(read), 걷기(walk) 라는 가장 기본적인 인간의 감성을 기반으로 한 보안스테이, 보안화원, 보안책방이 있는 복합문화예술 공간으로 2017년 새롭게 문을 열었다.

문화숙박업 통의동 2-1번지, ‘통의동 보안여관’은 80여 년의 세월 동안 ‘여관’이라는 이름 그대로 나그네를 위한 공간이었기에 언제나 머묾과 떠남이 공존하는 ‘문화공간’이기도 했다. 통의동에서는, 멀리 조선시대엔 진경산수화를 개척한 겸재 정선이 벗들과 노닐었고, ‘세한도’로 유명한 추사 김정희가 태어나 무명의 화가 허련을 가르쳤다. 또 일제시대에는 요절한 천재 시인인 이상이 ‘오감도’에서 ‘막다른 골목’을 묘사했고 그건 바로 이 통의동의 골목이었다. 그런가하면 1930년대 한국문학사의 한 획을 그었던 ‘시인부락’이라는 문학동인지도 서정주 시인이 바로 이 ‘통의동 보안여관’에 하숙하면서 김동리, 오장환, 김달진 시인 등과 함께 탄생시킨 것이다. 주변의 경복궁, 청와대, 광화문, 영추문, 금천, 통인시장, 인왕산 ... 그 중심에 위치한 이 ‘통의동 보안여관’은 우리가 알 수 없는 많은 사람들의 숨결과 역사가 서려 있을 것이고 그 숨결마다 맺혀있는 모든 이들의 정처 없는 삶의 흔적을 남겨가는 것은 어쩌면 이 ‘통의동 보안여관’의 숙명인지도 모른다. - 시인 이산하 -
