Roby Lakatos He’s called a “devil’s fiddler,” born into the legendary family of gypsy violinists descended from Janos Bihari, “King of Gypsy Violinists.” Lakatos is a 19th century throwback – scorching virtuoso, jazz improviser, composer and thrilling entertainer. He’s coming from Budapest with his ensemble of four gypsy musicians, including a cimbalom player and pianist Frantisek Jánoška, winner of the International Franz Liszt Competition in Hungary in 2002. Arts by the Numbers

In 2005, The Arts Partnership commissioned a study conducted by Americans for the Arts to measure the economic impact of the arts in FargoMoorhead. At that time: s 4HE ARTS SUPPORTED FULL TIME EQUIVALENT JOBS OR ROUGHLY percent of the total workforce, a total that is on par with the national AVERAGE AND NEARLY EQUAL TO THE AMOUNT OF JOBS IN PROTECTIVE SERVICES s MILLION WAS GENERATED IN THE &ARGO -OORHEAD AREA BY THE ARTS IN fiscal year 2005. Put in comparison with granted funds through The Arts Partnership, the AREA SEES AN ENORMOUS RETURN ON ITS INVESTMENT 4HAT MILLION WAS GENERATED BY OF TAXPAYER MONEY GIVEN TO 4HE !RTS 0ARTNERSHIP THE remainder of those funds came from donors inside and outside of the area, state and federal grants, foundation grants, and raw economic activity. While there are not more recent hard numbers, anecdotally speaking, a variety of new galleries and shops dedicated to the arts have sprung up in THE COMMUNITY ADDITIONAL FULL AND PART TIME POSITIONS HAVE BEEN CREATED IN EXISTING AND NEW ARTS ORGANIZATIONS AND INDEPENDENT ARTISTS HAVE ENtered the work force in both the for- and not-for-profit sectors.
