The Arts of Advocacy

“ When enough people come together, then change will come and we can achieve almost anything.  So instead of looking for hope…start creating it.” –Greta Thunberg

Advocating for the arts at the local government level...your town, your county or school board...is sometimes daunting and personally frustrating. But there are strategies that make your efforts successful. In this session, those strategies will be reviewed and put into context. No matter the size of your community or your past successes, the best advocacy efforts are on-going, building relationships, using research and activating stakeholders. Action takes planning and success takes creativity.

Arts Education Advocacy Case Study and Discussion

One critical component to a thriving arts ecosystem is access to vibrant arts education opportunities in K-12 programs across the state. This session will provide an open discussion to employ the tools and tactics learned in the first session to the dilemmas and possible actions to address these concerns.

Lead trainer Janet Brown will be joined by members of the new Arts Education Advocacy Network to participate with the attendees in a conversation to discuss the needs of K-12 arts education, identify the gaps in services, and discuss potential local advocacy efforts.
