Post his graduation in 2000 from faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University, Hossam worked as a graphic designer. In 2006, he founded ‘Samdzine’ artstudio, specializing in graphic artworks on Canvas. Hossam has become known in Egypt and the Middle East as a graphic artist for his genuine and daring innovation, glorifying Egypt. His work is currently touring Europe through SafarKhan.

Maged Mikael is one of Egypt’s extremely promising sculptors of the future. Graduated first of his class with Honors in 2004 and trained under the Maestro Adam Henein, Mikael’s works are instantly recognizable, full of figurative mystery, blended with sculpting mastership and emotions. Mikael is a true gem within his generation.

Talented emerging artist Marwa Adel explores the lives of women and the human body, ‘a word surrounded by restrictions in our Middle Eastern Societies’. Adel has held solo exhibitions in Egypt and has participated in many group exhibitions internationally. Her works are sought and sold at International auctions. This same triptych will be auctioned at Christies on 26 Oct. 2011 in Dubai.

Sameh Ismail is one of the few and extremely talented Arabic Calligraphers in Egypt. Ismail revives the art of Calligraphy, which he studied and masters, turning it into a contemporary aesthetically-capturing movement. Ismail was chosen to design all calligraphy in ‘Al Masseer’ movie of Youssef Shahin. We can expect Ismail to put Egyptian contemporary calligraphy back on the regional map.

Tossoonian reconciles sculpture with poetry. His great passion for Egypt, for its people and history, shows a poetic artist capturing the essence of Egyptians, past and present, in a glorious fashion. Tossoonian says: ‘Females are constrained by social expectations of etiquette. I try to express that sentiment in my sculptures. I focus on the impressionism of freeness, and the contrast between shiny and dark parts – the extreme differences between the two’.

Hany Rashed is certainly one of Egypt’s to-watch artists. Extremely versatile, risk-taker, Rashed constantly undergoes many stylistic shifts, exhibition after exhibition. Egyptianised Pop Artist, Rashed either takes current events as his theme or playfully visualizes the westernization of our society. A protégé of established artist Mohamed Abla, Rashed created his own artistic signature.

Ahmed Askalany has clearly established himself as a unique and inimitable young sculptor of his generation. His works, sought after regionally, aim to captivate the essential gestures & shapes of humanity, free of aggression, reflecting candor and innocence. His works are directly associated with his native roots. Recipient of prestigious prizes, he represented Egypt at Venice Biennale in 2009 and is set to fly. He is participating in Christies Auction in Dubai on October 26, 2011.

Moataz Nasr’s career is booming and blooming, going from strength to strength internationally. A painter, a multi-media artist, Nasr won prestigious prizes in Egypt and across the globe. While his works tackle universal themes, Nasr pinpoints Egyptian society very precisely. A philosophical and spiritual journey, his works invite us to meditate on the meaning of things and on coexistence – questions so pertinent in today’s Egypt. Nasr is represented by one of Italy’s leading galleries.

With 50 solo shows and numerous awards under his belt (winner of 1998 Cairo Biennale), Mohamed Abla has established himself as one of Egypt’s most prominent contemporary artists. His resilience in being true to himself is a hidden thread felt through all his paintings and it is this truth that draws viewers to his work. An unshakable patron of the arts, Abla mentors young artists and has founded the first Caricature Museum in Egypt, located in Fayoum.

Huda LUTFI 1948-

Huda Lufty is one of Egypt’s most notable contemporary artists. Lutfi works with mixed media, recycled and found objects, and adopts an archeological approach excavating the city of Cairo for materials for her work. Her work tends to explore gender politics and identity. Lutfi was awarded 2nd prize in Biennale for Women Artists of Mediterranean Countries. She has a PhD in Islamic Culture & History and exhibited worldwide.

Marwa Adel is a photographer and computer graphic designer with great ability and sensitivity. She adds rythms to her work by employing Arabic Calligraphy or adding a spot of luminous red to her black & white designs. She teaches graphic design at the faculty of Applied Arts in Cairo and is now turning into oil to become a painter.

Mounir Canaan is undoubtedly one of Egypt’s Modern Art Pioneers. An avant-garde across his career, he ventured in techniques that were beyond his time. With a first Prize in First Arab Biennale, Prix du Merite des Arts and works acquired by Centre Georges Pompidou; Hawai Modern Art Museum; Mathaf Arab Modern Art Museum in Doha Qatar and all key museums and institutions of Egypt, Mounir Canaan was a pivotal artist in shaping Egypt’s art movement.

Ehab Ellaban leads a dual career as an artist and a curator. His contemporary minimalistic sculptures express abstraction of the world around us. Ellaban earned the Jury Prize in 13th Youth Salon, The Grand Prix in 14th Edition and Top Prize in 15th Edition of same competition. Finally, the monumental Rose-Granite sculpture in front of Qait Bey Fortress in Alex is his contribution to public art in Egypt.

Former head of Museum of Modern Arts and Opera in Cairo, Salah Taher is a highly respected artist with an extremely rich portfolio consisting of over 15,000 works. Taher participated extensively in various biennales around the world and art fairs. In 1961, he was granted the Guggenheim Award.

Dr. Ahmed Shiha digs in Egypt’s past and historical identity to build his work. A guardian of and a scholar on Egyptian Identity, Dr. Shiha incorporates elements of all historical phases of Egypt’s rich history (Pharaonic, Coptic, Islamic, Modern), en homage to his passion for the people of his homeland. This work is part of a series produced and inspired by Jan. 25 Revolution – searching for a leap towards a better peaceful united future. Dr. Shiha’s work has travelled the world and is in US Museums.

Bassem SAMIR 1983-

Bassem Samir was born twice. Second time around was during the Revolution where he was truly inspired by the visual surrounding of the 18-day utopia. For him, ‘the square turned from a battlefield to an art exhibition’. A photographer, with many group exhibitions under his belt in Egypt and now in Europe with SafarKhan, Samir wants to continue building on that inspiring united euphoria.

Fathi AFIFI 1950-

Fathi Afifi embarks on a sort of commentary on social conditions in Egypt. Filled with actions and vitality, Afifi’s work is mostly based on mental images he draws from around the city, and involves some level of satire. Afifi has participated in major exhibitions abroad and his work is part of the Museum of Fine Arts.

Seif Wanly is one of Egypt’s Modern Art Pioneers at the turn of 20th century. Together with his brother Adham, the Wanly’s set up their atelier in Alexandria where they grew up. Seif Wanly participated in the Venice Biennale. He left behind a portfolio of truly amazing works of art, depicting the bourgeois, the revolution, the dancers, the intellectuals and Egypt.
