Interna'onally-­‐acclaimed, Egyp'an-­‐born, New-­‐York based Ghada Amer is currently exhibi'ng a series of rare, limited edi'on, original hand-­‐painted prints available for sale at ArtTalks | Egypt.

The works she offers to the Egyp'an public are truly feminine, and are some'mes a curious combina'on of the Disney’s cartoon and pleasure images, or a sensi've depic'on of love, rela'onships and female pleasure.

Con'nually challenging conven'on and turning tradi'ons on their head, Ghada Amer celebrates female pleasure and seeks to unravel the incomprehensibility of love, playing with Fairy Tale legends such as Sleeping Beauty or Superman or Cowboys.

Born in Egypt, educated in France and living in New York City, Ghada Amer’s international artistic trajectory is inspiring, fascinating and bold. Her extraordinary portfolio of work, that continually challenges convention and turns traditions on their head, placed Amer as one of the top female artists in the world.

Painter, sculptor, garden designer, performer, installation artist, Ghada Amer’s body of work spans all media – although her abstract expressionist works, embroidered with erotic motifs constitute her most famous signature.

Amer seeks to depict the major idea of female pleasure, using texts or images that speak of women's sexuality, desire and happiness, subtly exposing the contradictions inherent in religious and feminist forms of extremism. Raised in a conservative family, Amer uses art as a tool to rebel and express her inner anxieties. "I would have died if I didn't make art. It's kind of a salvation for me."

The very act of stitching cloth reflects the artist’s play with popular understandings about feminine work, gender stereotypes and empowerment. The submission of women to the tyranny of domestic life; the celebration of female pleasure; the incomprehensibility of love; and the foolishness of war & violence constitute the territory that she explores in her art. About Cairo, she states: "I go there to get angry and make art”. At the same time, her patriotism could make many blush.
