"I am a predominantly a self-taught artist and a realist by nature; this is expressed in my art. My direction in art is to seek and define new boundaries and excite and evoke interest in the viewer. My art is my escape, my passion, my reward in life."

Born in Trieste, Italy, artist Gianfranco "John" Gambardella draws from his Italian artistic heritage. Based in Melbourne, Australia, Gambardella is inspired by the collection of ideas prompted from what is around him (both real and topical) and the many places he has been fortunate to visit worldwide.

Gambardella's rich art palette and his love of structure and color are evident in his latest works from his ongoing theme titled: "The Venice Connection"–depicting architectural segments of this sublime city and its connection to its annual historical "Carnavale" reflecting that very essence. As expressed by Gambardella, "Venice is undoubtedly a city of beauty and intrigue to behold – a masterpiece of its time and worthy of being depicted; I long going back to La Bella Venezia."
