David Puello is an emerging filmmaker and visual artist from Colombia. His new film Hasta La Raiz premiered in October 2021. The film reflects Puello's passion for our environment and highlights the beauty of his native country of Colombia. His photography follows the same theme, while he captures mesmerizing locations with the hope of opening a connection between the viewer and Mother Earth.
David Puello, a photographer, filmmaker, and artist, is still very young, but you can already tell that he has what it takes to succeed. His films are more than just films; they're creative visions that leave a lasting impression on his audience. We recently spoke with David about his work as a filmmaker, an artist, and an environmentalist. He offered some fascinating perspectives on not only his art but also on our world today.
The film Hasta La Raiz
In the film Hasta La Raiz, the viewer is captured by its style, and the digital technology Puello uses with eye-catching effects that steal our attention right away. But, beyond what you see onscreen, you can feel Puello's concern for environmental issues through themes like deforestation or pollution. After watching the film, it makes us wonder what kind of influence do we have on nature? How are we capable of damaging something as extraordinary as Earth? What are some ways in which we can contribute to keeping it alive? Or better yet, preserve her existence? The questions keep piling up while watching Hasta La Raiz as we are faced with the beauty of the mountains in Colombia, its forest, lakes, and waterfalls, and a world where nymphs appear to give you messages from the depth of our planet.

David Puello's photographs are wispy lines of color that capture the ghostly presence of his subjects. The imperfections come through more naturally in his photos. It's perfect for his goal of helping people see our connection with nature as imperfect but beautiful. In his own words: My work is both relatable and provocative. His philosophy is simple: If we change how we relate to nature –- both physically and mentally –- then we can be stewards for its protection.
At only twenty two years of age, David Puello is already making a name for himself as a filmmaker and visual artist. His latest project is a stunning series of photographs that reflect his passion for nature while promoting environmentalism by exploring animals throughout their natural habitat.
